Bluetooth LE on G2? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Was wondering if anyone happened to know if the LG G2 currently supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE. Some sources say it does while others do not mention it at all. I believe LE is an Android 4.3 feature but I believe some manufacturers had managed to add LE support in earlier versions of Android. Was hoping that this was perhaps the case with the G2. Thanks in advance.

It does. I don't have any devices that use a LE to test it.

That's great! Thank you very much. Any idea if there is any difference between the Verizon version and others in regards to bluetooth?

I think that Bluetooth LE is baked into the chip, but I think you might need Android 4.3 to take advantage? Or LG put it in their skin as I don't think it was AOSP in 4.2.2.

I'm using LG G2 with android 4.4.2 and I tried to connect two devices that require LE. No success!
However I was tring to pair it using the regular Bluetooth phone's menu. It seems that Android devices need the app itself to solve the BLE connection. So, I will try to pair it using a few apps like RunKeeper or MapMyRun.

BT LE works great, I use it to connect to my Garmin watch. I did have to restart my phone after pairing for it to work properly. You do have to have 4.3 or newer. I'm on 4.4.2.

Car audio and phone guy question

I just had a new deck installed, here's the one I had installed, http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/CD-Receivers/DEH-P8400BH
And when I plug my phone in to the USB, it says device unrecognized. Is that normal for Nexus devices? Is there any fix for it? And no bluetooth information is displayed, i see its something to do with something that LG or Samsung puts in their branded phones, so its absent from a Nexus, is there any rom with it in it?
Hey there. Same deck and same phone here. For the USB to phone, don't bother. Never got it to work myself. As far as information displaying while playing, many of the custom ROMs support this (CM10.1, AOKP, etc.), so you might want to give one of them a shot. I'm not sure this is something that can be added, or if it's something that that requires a whole ROM to implement.

The nexus 4 doesn't use UMS for mounting. It uses MTP. Unfortunately it won't be compatible with your deck or any other device for that matter.
There aren't any ROMs that will change that either.

Get appradio with arliberator. If you didn't know what that is you can thank me later

I'm guessing this wont be in any AOSP based ROMs though? None of the ones I've used support this. Maybe I'll try CM when they finally get a stable version out, can't stand nightlies.

Haha, gotta love a cheap solution. Esp as he's just bought a new receiver.
Don't bother with cm right now. Apparently because of the new Bluetooth stack Google used in 4.21 they had to pull out AVRCP v1.3 (the Bluetooth control protocol that allows for song meta data to be sent to the headset) out of cm10.1 and revert back to v1.0 that only allows control...No metadata.
Stock Android only has AVRCP v1.0 so that's why it doesn't work on any stock Nexus device.
...but my wife's GS3 has AVRCP v1.3...boo.

Anyone have Pebble watch see if BLE is working in 4.3 leak?

Im curious to know if the BLE is working in the leak. I have a fitbit but the fitbit app is hardcoded to specific devices so I cant use the bluetooth until fitbit updates their app. Im curious to know if someone with a Pebble watch can see if the bluetooth 4.0 is working between the watch and phone?
One of my buddies has one that he uses on his iPhone and I'm thinking about flashing the leaked 4.3 ROM and testing it out. I'll let you know if it works when I try it.
Thanks

From what i understand, the Pebble watch's firmware still hasn't enabled the BLE stack or the BLE radio. So all connections to either iOS or Android are running on BT 2.1
I know they released a new firmware but from what i understand it still hasnt enabled the BLE.
I am just hoping that 4.3 is released/leaked for American Phones supporting BLE and then people can finally develop apps or Pebble Developers can finally have an official API from google to establish BLE connections between the watch and BLE radio supporting phones.
I have had a G-Shock GB6900 watch but it's just no use as Casio has totally neglected Android Development for US at&t Phones such as SGS3 or SGS4 et al.

Android 4.3 Bluetooth Radio Track Info Now Working

I just wanted to let you guys know that AOSP finally has bluetooth track info working with Bluetooth 4.0. The leaked 4.3 was not working with the track info with the car radio.
Most likely when the ROM was pulled from the phone off craigs list a few keys areas were missed. I tested this with the Nexus 4, 7 & 10 and all is good.
I know this is the HTC one thread (my personal phone) but I wanted to share that we are good to go with Track Info after all these years.
*Yes I know HTC Sense and Samsung fixed this with their own bluetooth stack, this is and upgrade for AOSP users.
WooHoo!
I installed the leaked 4.3 ROM on my Nexus 4 last week and Bluetooth LE (track info) worked fine.

Avrcp 1.3 is what you're talking about. Bluetooth LE (low energy) is a lower power Bluetooth specification.

Not new. Its been in OEM firmware for a while and custom aosp based ROMs like cm prior to 4.2. It's new as far as being an official part of AOSP.

Is it built into the operating system or are you using an app?

I'm curious about this too
I don't know what you mean if it's built into the OS. The IR blaster works out of the box for me. All I needed was the app to control it. I just installed the apps in the link that you posted and that's it. I didn't do the rest because the it worked for me by just installing both the apps.

Android 4.4 was supposed to have support for IR blasters built in, and that led me to assume it would also have software to control the IR blaster, so I wasn't sure if you were using the linked method or if you'd discovered that capability within Android.

Oh no there is nothing in the settings or anywhere that controls the IR blaster - hidden somewhere I don't think so because someone would of mentioned something about it. The only way I got it to work was with the APKs that were posted on the link you posted
One of the selling points of kitkat was built in it blaster support. I wonder what they meant. Perhaps it's in the developers options.

There is support for it in kitkat in the framework , but it still requires you to have an app that accesses/utilizes that support.
http://developer.android.com/about/versions/kitkat.html#44-ir-blasters
IR Blasters
Android 4.4 introduces platform support for built-in IR blasters, along with a new API and system service that let you create apps to take advantage them.
Using the new API, you can build apps that let users remotely control nearby TVs, tuners, switches, and other electronic devices. The API lets your app check whether the phone or tablet has an infrared emitter, query it's carrier frequencies, and then send infrared signals.
Because the API is standard across Android devices running Android 4.4 or higher, your app can support the broadest possible range of vendors without writing custom integration code.

Bluetooth 4.0 / BLE

Has anyone came across a rom \ patch that supports Bluetooth 4.0 / Bluetooth Low Energy / BLE .... ?
I have a new heart rate monitor that is bluetooth low energy/ble .. and while my LG G2 VS980 can see it .. it cannot pair with it.
Just curious if anybody else has found a way to make bluetooth 4/ble work!
I believe 4.3 added ble support. Try a 4.4 rom...

I've tried 2 different 4.4 roms so far and neither had support.
CarbonRom and Mahdi .... Neither were able to pair with the monitor.

I wanted to report back .. that I've tested my heart rate monitor, a BLE\Bluetooth 4.0 device with 2 seperate 4.4 roms, Gummy and Mahdi .. and both were able to pair with the monitor via the MapMyRun app.
so this has nothing to do with the rom's themselves .. just needed a compatible app!
I could not get it to work with Endomondo or any of the other apps, however, mapmyrun paired and worked very well!
Hope this helps!
