Possible ways to tell if you are buying from a newer batch. - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Like many I have had many problems with getting a Nexus 7 2013 that is defect free. I bought my first one back in the middle of September which was a 16GB. It had massive light bleed and very noticeable issues with the touch screen especially when typing. I exchanged it a few days later for another 16GB which had no light bleed but also developed issues with the touch screen while typing. I have read about all the possible fixes and software variants which messes with the touch screen but today decided that I will try exchanging one more time. This time I decided to go for a 32GB since it was all Best Buy had left.
Anyways I noticed some differences in the packaging and initial setup of the tablet and I thought maybe these would either be:
A) A sign that these tablets are a newer production run
or
B) Differences between the 16GB and 32GB
The first thing I noticed is that instead of one sticker holding the lid on the box, there are now two, staggered, one on each side of the box. Also these stickers have Asus engraved on them, my 16GB didn't have that, at least not that I noticed. The second thing I noticed is that the plastic wrap around the tablet itself had arrows pointing towards the power and volume buttons with icons for each. And lastly, the tablet did not do a mandatory update upon setup. It was already on software version JSS15N.
Anyways, so far after updating to the latest JSS15R, everything seems good. Light bleed is almost non existent and no problems to be had with the touch screen.
If you are like me and don't think you should have to live with defects, or should be forced to flash things to the boot loader using trial and error to get the tablet working like it should, then I suggest looking for these things. You can check to see if there are two stickers without breaking open any packaging, just removing the sleeve.
Maybe if people notice other differences we can compile the information here and people can use it to get a properly functioning tablet.
If this is posted somewhere already, please spare me the search lecture, I tried.
If you are someone who bought a launch tablet and believe it works perfectly and feel that everyone is being too picky, spare me that as well.
Let's help everyone get what they paid for!

What is the production date on the issue-free device that you got? I saw tens of N7 boxes in stores here in Poland and they've been all from June production batch. I tested maybe five in three different stores all of them were having touchscreen issues. I test in maps by trying pinch to zoom and two finger rotation gestures or simply by placing two fingers on the screen on the same vertical axis. The ones that I was able to test failed all three tests.

Well I feel silly I didn't even know they put the date. Anyways it says 2013.08

I'm curious if anyone owns a September batch, along side their experiences with them.
are there even any out?

I got 3 N7 with these two stickers and all had touch issues. I think the plastic around the N7 had symbols instead of arrows. Batch date were 07.

Hey, I'm thinking about getting the cellular version one.
Where can I locate the production date? is it on the box? of on the device itself ?
thanks :good:
Hope they can fix these issues with a software update.

I'm also interested in buying one if I can get some sort of tip it would help. It all seems so random so far though.

It's on the side of the box. There's a sticker that also has a serial numer printed on it.

I'm going to buy one, they arrive at portugal this week (day 3 to be precise) but i will not buy one just yet. i'll wait a little longer for more informations on the problems and solutions and hopping they start releasing almost completely bug free batch. I think this touchscreen problem is kind of a deal breaker for what i have been reading. Lets see if i can hold a little longer without a nexus 7 since i sold my 2012 to buy this one, ahah.

Production dated 2013 08 here and no problems at all.

I think this is a very good post. maybe people start realysing that the 08 2013 batch as less or non problems and can make a better purchase.

Mine is 32GB from 2013.09 .. no touch problem , but it does have a small dark dot between the screen and glass.....

Mine is a September dated 32GB LTE model for Australia. I haven't noticed any issues with it at all.

16GB have more issues than 32GB Fact!

You all still have the low volume hissing right? I got 32gb 08 model and that's the only issue I have.
Also, can someone check if you get a sort of rattling sound when playing the stock alarm sound cesium on higher volumes. Feels like the speakers are rattling when playing it, but don't notice that on other sounds.

I have a 7/13, (32gb) that doesn't seem to have any problems.

I've got a 16GB with 09/2013 batch date and haven't found any problems yet.

is there a low volume static/hiss for people who own a September batch?

I have a 07/13 (32gb) that doesn't seem to have any problems.

I too have a 07/2013 32gb version with no issues.
Loving it.

C90

What are defects still present on the C90. Ive looked around and all the model numbers are confusing me. I know the C90 is the latest model and would like to know what issues it has. Thanks in advance.
Bear in mind that it's not necessarily a product revision, but rather a designation of the month of production. From what I've seen, C90 has the same hardware defects, such as screen separation, that we've seen in previous months.

Happy now...
Been a lurker for a while... feel I need to help the folks.
I had 2 C70's from Google Play store, returned both.
Both had screen lift, one had all screws missing on left side of screen, the other had them.
The first's screen's protective coat wore off/dissolved.
Both would not charge via USB car charger while the unit was on and with or without WI-FI (yes I had a 'shorted' cable).
The second's screen was un-responsive on 30% of the right side when cold or randomly.
Both had the 'black line flash' in Crome or other apps.
I now have a C90 from my local retailer and a K firmware.
Very slight screenlift occured during the first charge, it now has settle in and not lifting after 2 weeks.
The battery will charge while on and using wi-fi.
I use a screen protector from when I opened the box..not taking any chances.
The newest firmware/os update has increased the performance very nicely!
"Black Line Flash" issue is still around...oh well...
My original Nexus 7 was a C70 with horrible screen lift and screen dimming issues. It was replaced in late August with a C70 (both from Google) and the second C70 is flawless.

[Q] Should I return my N7 32gb? (Screen lift)

Hi all
I bought the new nexus 7(c90) 32gb a few days ago from PC world along with the 2 year guarantee. Out of the box it was working perfectly and I began setting it up as you do .
Anyways after around 10 mins of using it a tiny flake of the silver plastic bezel felt loose and then fell off so I have this 4mm black "scrape" on the corner of my N7's bezel but as this is so small (I will try to include a pic) I am just putting it down as wear and tear
However here is my bigger issue. After reading how many 8gb/16gb N7's had the dreadful screen lift I decided to check mine. It seems that the middle of the left side of the screen is higher than the right side and does not sit flush with the bezel however it's barely sitting a width of a hair above it. I can run my nail from the middle of the screen to the right and feel the bezel is higher than the screen however when I do the same to the left side my nail simply falls off. If I hold my N7 horizontally and look down at it , the left side is higher than the right as the bezel cannot be seen towards the middle of the screen. If you look at the left side you can sort of see the screen bulging out by the smallest amount and if you push on the screen you can see a very very small amount of screen flex.
I would really appreciate any advice. I asked my parents to buy this as a Bday present me as these N7's are really good value for money and this being my first proper tab I really wanted to flash roms ect but due to the screen lift/bezel issue im not sure what to do. PC world claim to refund or replace any item that develops a fault within 21 days. Spoke to my parents and they tell me if it's that small of an issue I’m just better off leaving it. Yesterday I want to a large shopping centre and tested out some N7's(not sure on gb's) and 2 of the 3 displayed a similar issue however due to the rush I’m not 100% sure. Also tested Tesco’s 16gb and there was no screen lift.
I'm worried that after a while the screen issue may get worse. After some reading last night I read that 32gb's are excluded from this design flaw so Is there a possibility of me owning a faulty one? . Do you think PC world would accept these as "faults?" . If I'd never seen the thread on screen lift then I most likely would have never noticed anything. .
Hope all this makes sense, any questions please ask!
thanks!
I bought one yesterday mate from Currys and I didn't think mine was bad until I compared it against the display model in store today. Mine had a lot of screen lift and I could easily get my finger nail between the screen and the bezel, the quality was poor to say the least.
I took it back today and had a really good chat with the guys at Currys and they were mega helpful. I ended up exchanging it for a new unit and its near on perfect so I'm chuffed to bits.
You won't get close to getting a tablet of this spec for the money. Take it back and get another one.

thanks for the reply. I'm also able to wedge my nail in the gap between the bezel and left side of the screen. I am strongly considering returning it back in the next few days however I'm not sure if they will accept it as the screen lift isn't that noticible initially . Also how did the exchange process go?, did you just get a new boxed replacement or did you ask them to open up a few?.
Cheers

Mine was quite noticeable because even though I hadn't had the tablet a full 24hrs there was already dust and bits gathering down one side of the screen which made it stand out even more. The screen lift was something I could only see getting worse. I actually took the back off for a nosey before I exchanged it and I could see there were missing screws down the side of the bezel which I believe is how Asus are trying to combat the screen lift.
The two guys I spoke with at Currys were obviously in to their gadgets as well and were aware of the quality issues with these tablets and said if I wasn't happy I could have my money back or exchange it for something else, or they said I could try another one and see how I got on. I personally didn't suggest opening them until I found one I was happy with as I appreciate they wouldn't be able to sell them then.
I'm happy with my new one though and I'm really glad I exchanged it.

I took 2 back to tesco both within 48hrs, both suffering screen lift, my 3rd has it ever so slightly, less than 0.25mm but as it's in a case it hasn't got any worse so I'm happy to live with it as is.
So yes take it back as it is a known fault.

I bought one from Staples and after couple of days of use I too found the screen lift on the left side. I finally returned it yesterday morning. Then in the evening I got a new one from Office Depot. So far its free from any defect. I hope it stays that way. Also my new one starts with serial no. CA0K. The one was defective was C90K.

Yes even though there are known issues and we've had bad experiences, don't get clouded in to thinking this isn't a good tablet because it is and I personally think it's well worth the perseverance. I will be going in for a replacement tommorrow, I just hope that they will accept it. Like I said before, the screen lift is not very apparent however it is there. If the staff disagree and kick up a fuss that there is no screen lift or the screen lift has no negitive effects then what's the best course of action?
Since buying the N7 and discovering it had screen lift + chipped bezel I don't have the satisfaction of it being "mine",really wanted to flash roms and experiment but the confusion in returning it or not kept me stock :crying: . The N7 I have does not have any light bleed, ghosting and I'm pretty sure the colours of the screen are normal. Should I check this on my replacement N7 when I get it?
Also I'm looking at a N7 starting with C90 right?
Another thought is getting a refund and saving up for a 32gb nexus 10 . Also A N10 would cost me around £200 extra . I initaily went with a nexus7 as it was cheap for the high specs, In my budget and as it is my first android device & tablet allows me to learn & tinker with it with no regret compared to a almost half grand N10. I have also heard on here that many users downsized from a 10" to a 7" . Could anyone shed their opinion?
P.s: I have attached some images
I'm returing mine for black lines , the only thing is I can't find the warranty card . Do I need it ?

I'm so shocked that Google hasn't stepped in to improve the quality on the 32 gig models after all the problems with the 8 and 16. I love Google products but quality must come first not quantity. I used to work for Sony and this would've been totally unacceptable.
Return it and open the replacement right in the store and continue to do that until you get a good one.
Return it right away. The more tablets that get returned because of this "screen lift" the better. Maybe next time they will not repeat the same mistake.

Just an update
Went in and was able to get a replacement N7, Checked this one in the store and it had pretty much no screen lift apart from a very very very slight lift from the left towards the bottom. We also checked another one inc a display model and they were much worse. I also went snooping in various shops to look at the N7 and all of them had some sort of screen lift.
Overall I'm quite happy with the new one, my only complaint is that there is a small amount of backlight bleeding in the bottom left corner if the brightness is set at 100%. If the brightness is on auto or below 50% you cannot really see it unless you are actively looking for it.
I've heard much worse issues with the N7 so I'm happy with this one. Am I right the LED's are only located on the left side of the tablet?
I'd return it again. I've returned 3 and my newest is flawless. there are good units out there, you will find one!

Yet Another Touchscreen Responsiveness Thread

I know there have been a few (perhaps this is an understatement) threads about the touchscreen wonkiness some users are experiencing, but I'd like a consolidated bit of advice.
My touchscreen is weird. Sometimes everything seems perfectly normal, but I've noticed a few examples of it being weird:
When trying to put an app shortcut on the homescreen (long pressing) it often doesn't work; it seems to think I am moving my finger when I'm not
When in drawing apps, if I try to draw fine lines, sometimes it registered random points and lines on other parts of the screen
Using a multitouch test app, it periodically will register a third touch when only using two fingers
The keyboard double taps letters almost every single time I type
So my questions are:
Do you think this is a software issue? If so, how do you explain some people not having the problem.
Do you think my best bet is to exchange it? I have no issues other than the touchscreen (no light bleed, etc.) and I'm a little scared I'll get a worse unit.
What are your experiences with these issues?
Thanks for reading!
I had a perfect 16gb that I returned in order to get a 32gb. The 32gb had the horrible touch screen issues. Using YAMTT app, it would register multiple touches long after I was no longer touching the device. I returned it to Best Buy and got a new 32gb and it doesn't have the issues. At first I thought it was the JSS update, so I didn't accept for a few days. Went ahead and updated and still have no issues on my new device.
This has already been documented, the primary thread for this is over in the Q&A section AFAIK currently. Which is here:

I am basically having the same issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2395289
A reboot seems to help mine. Mine does not seem as bad as some peoples. I am trying to decide if I need to exchange it or not. It sounds like it might be software more than a faulty one off hardware.
Mine seems completely fine outside of the occasional freak bug with finger-sliding on my keyboard pressing like 80 keys. Fixes itself if I lift my finger up.
I have a 32 GB.
Don't know where it is at the moment, but there is a thread over on the Google Products forums regarding this. Google knows of the issue, and as of a few days ago, they are looking into a fix. I think it's software. People say that the second upgrade you do ruins it and makes the touch less responsive. So, I think it will be fixed with a new update. Just give it some time. I'm trying not to think about it. Don't wanna ruin it for me. Hehe. Hang in there. If it REALLY bothers you, exchange it for another one. Obviously, you run the risk of not getting rid of the problem. Who knows.

I had this problem at first. I think it is just a heck of a lot more sensitive, interpreting varying pressure of my finger as movement as the "footprint" changes. After I got used to how lightly I should press compared to the previous Nexus, the problems went away.

Mine is working fine but i noticed when placing my hand on it when i use YAMTT, it will register 3-6 point and starts flipping. When i pull my hand away these points keep on flipping for some seconds. It is over responsive compared to my S2 which registers Zer0 points when i put my hand on it (the way it should be). This was happening with JSS15Q as well as JSS15R now.

Flashing one of sfhub's custom touchscreen fixes helps for most of the issues. I use ts20 and it works 98%. 2% of the time it just locks up/stops taking input for a second or two. I've only really noticed it when playing games (terraria).
ts10 worked well but would occasionally freak out with a bunch of inputs.
None of this would be noticeable outside of game playing.
Sfhubs fixes are pretty great. At least get it usable until Google figures it out.
I was hoping 15R update would have fixed this but still waiting.

Notes regarding the June batch of Ones compared to launch

Hi all! Well I finally exchanged my One because of the red noise issue that has been well described here on xda, so I thought I'd post my observations on how a phone built in March compares to one built in June.
First one: manufactured in Taiwan, March 9th
New one: manufactured in Taiwan, June 25th
First of all, I'm happy to report the red noise is gone feels like freedom! Hopefully it doesn't develop again but so far nothing I've done has caused the noise (putting it down on a table, using when warm (<35 degrees) etc.) So hopefully this means htc changed their sensor in some way so as to prevent the issue which is clearly hardware and can't be fixed through software updates for most people. The new sensor was manufactured on June 19th. Considering 86% of users report the issue http//forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317507 it's pretty unlikely I just got lucky on this one (why I am optimistic new sensors are different).
The build quality is also better than my first. The first wasn't bad compared to many people who had gap and screen problems, but there were some overhangs and poorly machined parts. The new one is perfect... Completely. So again hopefully this indicates they have improved their manufacturing and QC processes. Considering how prevalent these issues were at launch, it's pretty unlikely I got lucky twice rather than them improving QC IMO).
The display is also better. This probably isn't a batch specific thing since they use multiple suppliers (2 that I know of - sharp with renesas controller and JDI with Samsung controller). The first was a JDI and had very good brightness, black level, and a cooler white balance. The new one is also a JDI. It has a Warmer white balance though (I prefer cooler, even though warmer ones like the new one produce more accurate colors) and the contrast has improved quite a bit. Brightness is roughly the same between the two. Normally warmer white balance is seen in the Sharp displays from what I understand http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2202869. Perhaps it's not as warm as a sharp panel would be though since they seem pretty rare and I've never encountered one.
They seem to have changed the vibration motor because this one doesn't shake the table when it goes off seriously the first one was excessive. It also made an annoying noise when it went off. The new one is much quieter and smoother. It feels more like how my old iPhone 4s was (if you've had one, you know this is a good thing!)
They've changed the usb cable - the ends are rubber now instead of the hard plastic that was on the first one. Small change, makes it feel better to me.
So overall everything seems to be a change for the positive. I'm not sure if I got the STM hdr mic or not, though since the judgement was passed in April I'd be inclined to think they would still have decent stock a month later at least. Hopefully stock holds out! So if you've been waiting to exchange for fear of getting one with poor build quality or a camera sensor that's just as bad, maybe these observations indicate that it's safe now. I really hope so...
If there's something else you'd like to know, I'd be happy to try and compare

How did you get a replacement phone? i sent mine to htc repair in the uk for the purple camera issue and am expecting it back on tuesday. They haven't said anything so as far as i know I assume i'll have the same phone with a new sensor?
Would love a replacement seen as some edges and the screen is not totally flush! Although would hate to lose my hdr mic!
Really hope they've fixed the purple tint though - feels like i'm missing a limb without the phone and don't want to send it away again if i can help it! :good:

Yours should be fine when it's returned (hopefully). Mine was a mess when I sent it in for repair (9th March build date). When I got it back, the screen was flush, gaps were gone, overhangs were gone etc.
Camera problem will be fixed, if they give you a new sensor (august build date onwards). Anything before that seems as though the problem returns eventually.
Happy to say that after 2 months with the replacement camera sensor, being heavily used, everything is still working correctly
Hope you have as much luck as I did with the UK repair center

Hey thanks for this, settled my nerves a little! I'm impressed they sorted out all the little gaps and problems on your phone! Glad to hear its in perfect condition man :good:. The repair guy just put on the form 'camera malfunction' so i wrote next to it '(purple tinting)' i hope they've taken it into account. I also noted beside that in pen the sim card not always detected issue that has been more prevalent lately - do you think they will fix that too? Is it proven they have sorted out the issue in the new sensors?
Also, they took received my device and returned it at the end of the day the next day. How long did yours take? Is there a form telling you what they fixed or did to repair it?
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks!

:good:

I exchanged mine through best buy since I got the product exchange warrantee. It couldn't have been easier actually, I just had to take it in, let them reset it and confirm it was still purple after and they gave me a new one 10min later. I've never heard of someone having it go so smoothly through htc so perhaps it's best to go through a carrier or store if possible.
Really really really hoping the problem doesn't come back since this is a June sensor...

Unfortunately because i bought mine brand new unbranded from ebay i can't take it to a carrier... However it seems that HTC UK do a decent job of repairs and haven't seen many complaints. spikeydoo2006 has given me hope as it sounds as though he's had a great experience! I wish htc would publicly acknowledge a hardware fault in the early models so that they can confirm the problem has been fixed! I love htc phones since i've had my desire hd and one x - its disappointing to have to send my one in for repair!
Well, that didn't take long...the noise problem with the camera is back and getting worse with time just like before. Also just like before heat is causing it and making it worse. I posted pics and a more complete breakdown of these lovely new developments here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47136748#post47136748
I'm beginning to accept that there is and never will be such a thing as a "good" sensor for this camera...
Took some good damn pictures at night when I first got the phone.
Now almost every dark pictures goes to full red mode. And if having it exchanged only reports the problem for another few weeks...

I'm really puzzled and confused by all these red/purple tint issues with people's one's. Although I don't think the night shots a're exactly great, I can't get my phone to show these tints.
What I have noticed on my replacement phone, is that the beats audio letters have started to run off just weeks after getting the phone and the screen isn't quite as good as my first one.

What did you do to get yours exchanged and with who - HTC or carrier? My Sprint One is new (had it less than 2 weeks) but manufactured FA37SS906etc (July 25) and has the red problem. Posted a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514330

I always try to avoid carriers as much as possible so I got it through best buy. I also made sure to get a product replacement plan on it so I only had to show them the problem, let them do a restore, then leave 10min later with a new phone. I've been following the primary thread about this issue and most people who go through htc seen to have to wait a long time to get it back.
Read through your post, and yup, that's the problem 85% of us have. If you think it will go away it won't. Your options are to replace the phone or the sensor but I have yet to hear of someone who did this and had it fixed permanently (the new sensor also eventually failed). Who knows, maybe someday they'll make a good one...

Why is it so hard to find a good Nexus 7???

Returned my fourth Nexus 7 today.
First one had: multitouch issue, dust under the screen, bad buttons. July batch.
Second one had: very bad multitouch issue. Buttons were good. August batch.
Third one had: multitouch issue (fixed by TS10 file), a lot of dust under the screen. Buttons were good. August batch.
Fourth had: multitouch issue, dust under the screen, bad buttons. Didnt even try the TS files because I knew I was gonna return it. July batch.
My conclusions: all Nexus 7 have multitouch issue, but mostly minor and fixable by the TS files. Even if you think your Nexus 7 is perfect it's not. You just dont know how to look for the problem or dont think you have it because it's so minor it seems normal.
More conclusions: Asus quality sucks. There's dust under the screen in most of the Nexus 7s. Probably because they are so cheap that they dont bother in making them right.
Last conclusion: all July devices have the hardware buttons stuck or badly placed. The ones in August are perfect.
Does someone know a way to take the dust under the screen? Even if I have to open it.
Now Im waiting for the 32GB versions to arrive in my city. There are no more currently. Waiting for my fifth one. I love this tablet. It's perfect for me. I just want one WITHOUT dust under the screen!!!!
i would have stopped after the second. got mine launch days, and have not experienced any of those issues. So NO, not all nexus 7 have these issues. Why even order a 5th one, if you dont like the quality? Get something else. I'm sure you will find a reason to return the next one.
Where are you ordering them from? Got mine off of amazon and its fine. No problems

I have the touch issues, but my 32G, made in July, has no hardware button problems at all.
Wow this thread is starting to resemble the whining that went on in the asus transformer tablet threads. I owned a 1st gen Nexus 7, then I bought the second gen Nexus 7 the week it came out. Never had any issues at all. Especially not any multitouch issues...I have no idea what anyone is talking about with the mulitouch thing. Since the Aug when I got the second gen nexus 7 I have had a chance to use and modify two more. Both of these (one for my mom and one for my dad) had no trouble whatsoever. The only issue was the 2nd gen nexus 7 I got when they first came out wouldn't charge wirelessly, but since I noticed it like right away I returned it to the store I got it from and got it replaced with a new one. I'm starting to think people are just way too damn sensitive.

Maybe the moderators can be a little more strict about closing down useless threads like these where the person just wants to complain and isn't really seeking information.
Not whining at all. Just explaining my situation.
Im gonna keep buying it until I get a good one. For me there's no alternative. No other android tablet is as good as an option. No full hd screen, stock android with updates, great performance, no skin that bugs down the OS, etc.
It's this or nothing. So no, I'm not whining, because this tablet is great. It's just the quality control that's bad, and that's Asus fault.
If someone knows if sending it to Asus makes it come back with more dust under the screen please tell me.
Dude idk where your getting your tablet from. But I got mine at Walmart close to launch day. And I seem to think its flawless. I got the 32gb and I love it. Other than a small gripe I have about the hardware button placement, I think its an amazing little tablet for the price. And I Dont have the dust issue your experiencing.
As far as a multi touch issue... I don't think I have it. If its really minor then I might have not noticed it. How can I check for it?
Hope you finally get a good one sometime soon!

Dunno, I was lucky. First time, all good.
Mind can't even be fixed by ts after 4.4. Gonna send it for repair again to see if I can get one ts works.

No issues here either. I have owned a 16 gb, returned it for a deal to get a 32 GB for 10 dollars cheaper. Both were/are great. Walmart for the 16gb and Staples for the 32.

It is like meeting your wife or husband. Often can't just take the first one. Got to check lots of them out before you find the right one. Some people do experience love at first sight though.
No problem with my tablet. 16GB version, got it the day it released. Bought from Staples.
Mine is 100% perfect. I asked the seller to check it before sending.

Same here day 1 from staples 16gb. No build issues expect the speakers crackle on some tones at high volume but its a small issue.
I have dead pixel issue. I tested 4 devices at the shop but still need to live with it. I might replace one again before 10 days free replacement policy.
ASUS quility sucks. If the next Nexus 7 is made by them again, I am not buying it.

I hear ya. I know it's impossible to know the real percentage of "bad" units without working at Asus, but it certainly feels high when I keep getting bad units one after another. I've given up and I'm just going to wait for a non-Asus nexus tablet.
Mine is soo good man, it really had no problems and never EVER experienced any touch issues.
i have only 1 nano dead pixel (it's so small and it's so at the bottom that you could'nt find it if you were looking trying to find it for atleast 10 minutes in a black screen)
ya im crazy, it took me like 20 mins to realise there was a stuck pixel. (i know i have a lot of free time)
No probs with mine neither bought it a couple of weeks ago, it was a launch 32Gb version aswell even had wacked firmware on it that wouldn't update, until i manually flashed it that is, now it perfect no dead pixels, no touch issues, no light bleed everything spot on with it.
Got mine at Walmart months ago, been all good since day one.

Me and many friends got the 32GB LTE 4G version and all are perfect (touch wood). It seems the LTE 4G version has higher QC standard or something because most complaints are for the WiFi only version.
However I will sell mine and get an iPad Mini Retina 32GB 4G LTE next January because Android is not for me, Apple hardware quality is better and 4G LTE coverage is way better as it will work in my country when 4G LTE is available as the Nexus 7 is a US model and it is not compatible.
