Hello! The wife cracked her screen today and I can't tell if I need to replace just the digitizer or the LCD as well. The top half of the screen responds to touch still but the bottom doesn't... so I've attached a picture hoping you can help me!
Thanks in advance!

use a mouse, it will still work.
Just an update, I ordered an LCD/digitizer on ebay for $60. Took me about a half hour to replace. The hardest part was removing the screen from the bezel, but I just put it in the oven on a towel at 140° for about 10 minutes and it came off rather easily. Now it's just like new.

I am wondering if I could replace the screen without any troubles. Can this HD2 be fixed like new by replacing the glass screen and the digitizer?
[EDIT] The Screen was still working 1-2 weeks later, then after that the screen stopped working... So I'm thinking something is wrong with the screen digitizer but I'm not do sure.
They sell a kit for 40 bucks comes with screwdriver and separation tool

So its a problem with the digitizer right? And then I could fix it and it will work again?
That depends upon your skill and abilities
My professional advise is either to use professional to install or to purchase LCD and digitizer in one unit, even though your LCD is fine. There is no glass screen and digitizer, there is LCD and digitizer, neither of which you will be able to install separately, given your question.
Ok thanks every one for replying!
Hello.
The other day i dropped my phone and it just shattered the glass on the screen.
I'm still using it (but getting little shards in my thumbs regularly) but i'm just wondering what i actually need to get to fix it; is it the digitizer or is it the LCD as well (or are they the same thing). I found this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-HTC-D...K_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item564688b2a0
Is this all i need? And do you think i would be able to do it myself? I don't have much experience with this sort of thing but i took apart my Macbook pro and the disk drive once. (Not the same scale i know...)
Thanks

Yes, the digitizer is the gorilla glass layer over the screen. It is responsible for the touch functionality in your device. If pictures on your screen are shown correctly and there isn't any dead pixel then your screen is intact and need not be replaced.
In all disassembly videos i see skipped the step where touchscreen is separated from lcd...
this step it's not so simple to do.
you need to melt the glue under under the touchscreen....
in some video is said to put in oven....10 minutes at 60 degree...but i didn't have success with disassembly these two parts
yeah, that step is difficult. I used a swiss knife blade (the small one) and could seperate the digitizer. I didnt put it in the oven or sun. But i guess its easier if u do. Just hold the knife steady parallel to the device.
I used double sided gluestrips to reatatch the digitizer but still the screen shows up a notch at the bottom of the device....seen this on many repaired DHD...so i think its very difficult to get a DHD where you dont see that its screen was replaced....
some part of the screen not function
some part of my touch screen not working. is this due to a dead pixels? if not what wil the cause of it?
Appreciate if you can assit to explain n perhaps some solution & advise.

You'll most likely find the LCD and digitizer/screen are bonded and have to be replaced as one unit. I stand to be corrected though. Here's a link to a video showing you how to replace it... http://youtu.be/7IiqWDlefaI or here... http://youtu.be/FBysBoEGmXY
same story as with nexus 4 - zero gap display. In theory you can, but most probably you will destroy Your LCD during process.
thanks guys. that was helpful...

Ok guys I've been a long time lurker here and flashed a million roms from you guys. I need some basic help.
Last night I went out for a smoke and my phone fell out of my pocket. Death! Cracked from the bottom left to the top and a line across the soft keys.
now my question to you guys is. If the screen is still visible but the "touch" functions are non responsive, is it the digitizer thats broken? If so would I run into any problems trying to install a digitizer from a white one to my black one.
tldr; phone fell cracked screen. can see my home screen. no touch response. its the digitizer right?

The LCD/Digitizer Assembly are combined, sorry to say but you have to replace the entire screen. Costs about $100-150 for screen doesn't matter white or black. If you want a shop to repair it $200-250 after taxes. Just don't use Gopermods I shattered my black G2 and they replaced 4 screens because they couldn't do it properly and eventually refunded me with a screen that started working after a while. It costed $239.xx for me. I used the refund for a white one one eBay.
Actually if you don't mind waiting about a month turn around time LG may do it for about a $100-150. They won't give you a quote till they see it.
This is a chinese s4 phone, after dropping it glass broke and screen displayed these lines as shown in pictures. What i want to ask is should i change the glass only or does it need a new digitizer? touch screen responds well, no problem there. just these lines. anyone have any clue if this can be fixed without changing the digitizer?
Change both digitizer and display

It's clearly that both are broken - and the digitizer is glued to the display, so you must change them both.

Since this is fake Chinese S4 it's a real miracle to find part which is for your phone and one that works. LCD and Digitizer (glass) are not laminated in your case, so replacing them should be easy.

Don't think there would be a screen from a chinese knock off, and furthermore most of those parts aren't even genuine Samsung parts.
so not worth repairing a fake phone assuming you even can. buy something half decent at a 2nd hand store. hope you looked for malware on that phone before you started using it...
The glass might be glued to the digitizer, but it can also be unglued.
Take a blow dryer, set it on hot air and blow dry the phone. The glue will heat up and become liquid again. Use a guitar pick and try to pry the glass from the screen and slowly pull it off.
I've seen this being done once (on an original S4), so yeah, I'm sure it is possible.
After the glass is off you should see if it still has those lines or not.
