[Q] Special dial codes - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does the Note 3 responds to the dial codes where you can check the screen in various colors...sensors...speakers etc
Here are some codes i copied from a site that works on the Galaxy Note 2:

Fascinate Diag Mode

Hi does anyone here know how to get into diagnostics mode with the Fascinate?
I've tried searching everywhere and using the codes for the Epic and other Galaxy S phones but it doesn't work.
If anyone out here knows it, let me know thanks!

That is the manual programming screen for the phone.
It's used for programming the handset in the event that OTA programming is not available.
The usual diagnostic mode dialing code on Androids is *#*#4636#*#*.
That dialing pattern works on my Droid 1 and HTC Incredible.
This changed with the Fascinate (maybe Samsungs in general- I haven't checked).
Someone needs to find the dialing form (eg *#*#<code>#*#*) that the secret codes are in.
I'm sure it's somewhere in the phone. I just don't know where to look.
I have a separate thread created asking for help find it.

The diag. code for the Fascinate is *#0*#
you can check **33284
i usually use **USBUI (**87284) and it works i nut phone in modem then qpst find the phone and i do what i need to off that screen !
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks
Enable Dial up Networking (Note: Be sure to disable this after flash has been performed)
Next..
Menu > Settings > Applications > Development
Enable USB Debugging

If Dial-up Networking is not showing perform the following. Dial **33284 followed by SPC (000000 or 468346 ) then scroll to Port Map and select HFK,DIAG. Once this is complete, you should now have Dial-up Networking showing up under Wireless and Network.
Bypass Activation:
Press "Emergency Call"
Dial *#83786633 then press send
After you press "send" press the "home" key and you should now be passed activation

+1, I was going to say this as well. Did some googling the other day and found this. Change USB from pda to modem.
I did this and was able to access phone in QPST to fix.

[Q] Diagnostics Isn't working right

When I run the diagnostics app or dial ##634# I can get into the diangostics application, but when I try any of the codes nothing happens. Is there supposed to be a send button or something?
All I see is:
Diagnostics (ver .0929)
An area where the #'s typed show up, a -/minus button that deletes the last typed key
The numeric keypad itself (0-9, * and # keys)
When I type in codes, ie. #1234# - the numbers show up but no dialogs or anything is showing up.
Anybody see this? Thanks in advance

Found another "diagnosis" code

In the diagnosis menu, enter *#2580# and you get "Test Mode." Not sure what this is yet but there are tons of options available.

Need the Phone Info

Well guys i need to enter in Phone Information, error with Apps and from dialer cant enter in "4636" code.
It's far from clear what you are asking - your question is vague and might be talking about a number of things. Try phrasing it differently or at least elaborate more and someone should be able to help you.
Dialer codes are not intended for end users and only work on certain models and firmware versions. A lot of dialer codes will work if entered from a terminal window rather than the keypad. Or look for a Play store app instead e.g. this or this.

- If you mean you want to get important info about your device, try Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app.
- If you mean about secret codes *#*#4636#*#*, install Shortcut Master app. You can launch this code by one of the following ways:
a) Open menu 'Secret Code Explorer', scroll down to 4636 and tap to launch it. Here you can find many secret codes available for your device, e.g. *#0*#, *#12580*369#, *#1234#, etc...
b) OR open menu Search, enter the 'testingsetting' to search. Finally tap on the search result to launch. You can also create a shortcut for easy access later.
The only app that works is Shortcut Master, [email protected]
The others apps says that my S5 don't have API for this.

Hello All,
Many people have asked about service mode and CSC related questions and I thought we should get a discussion going that is all in one place.
*DISCLAIMER* I do not take any responsibility for any issues that may occur from changing settings in these screens. They have the potential to cause service or data lost if used incorrectly. You have been warned!
Service Mode Guide
Access Service Mode
To access service mode screen, first download the Google Phone App from the Play Store (Phone by Google-Caller ID & Spam Protection is the official Play Store Name)
After installing the phone app, open it up and select set as default *Note* You will only need the Google phone app to access service mode-Once all the changes are made you can keep using it or change back to what you were using*
Another pop-up will show and select the Phone (blue icon) and set as default. Go to the dial pad icon in the bottom right corner and dial the following:
*#*#27663368378#*#*
When you dial the last * in the string above, the service mode menu will automatically show. YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HIT THE CALL ICON BUTTON TO MAKE A CALL AT ANY POINT.

*NOTE* Remember whenever navigating through the menus that the android back button on your device will automatically exit you back to the dialer. To go back, you must use the 3 dots menu at the top and select Back.
To enable all the LTE Bands go to:
1-Option 2-UE Setting and Info
2-Option 1-Setting
3-Option 2-System
4-Option 9-Next Page
5-Option 9-Next Page
6-Option 9-Next Page
7-Option 9-Next Page
8-Option 1-Set LTE Band Config
9-Option 1-Set Default LTE Band
This should enable all the LTE Bands for the country that the firmware installed is from and the available roaming bands that are set in the firmware.
For the 5G Bands go back (using the 3 dots in the top) until you see UE setting menu and the 2 options for Protocol and System then:
1-Option 1-Protocol
2-Option 9-NR5G
4-Option 3-NR5G Prune Status
Here you will see a [1] Remove NR5G PRUNE option as the last line. Select that option. If you visit this menu later, it will show a * next to NR5G PRUNE is Removed and the option will change to [1] Restore NR5G PRUNE, in case you want to go back.
Enable DSS
Now that all the bands are enabled, you have to enable the DSS setting. Get back to UE SETTING MENU with Protocol and System options and:
1-Option 1-Protocol
2-Option 1-AS
3-Option 9-Next Page
4-Option 9-Next Page
5-Option 2-NR DSS CONTROL
6-Option 1-NR DSS ENABLE
Just reboot the phone after this and this should be all that is needed to enable all LTE and 5G Bands and DSS!
You can then go back into the Google dialer and dial *#*#2263#*#* and this screen will pop:
CSC Guide
CSC (which I think means Carrier Service Code) helps to set what options for settings show in the device for things like voicemail and wifi calling, as well as sets network code information for things like carrier aggregation combos.
When you go to your phone settings->about phone->software information and look in the Service Provider SW ver. section, you will see as the last line a combo like XXX/YYY/ZZZ. This indicates what carrier sales and network code is set and what brand the phone was manufactured as.
I think of the XXX/YYY/ZZZ configuration as follows
XXX=Sales Code-What kind of features are setup in the firmware like wifi calling, video calling and settings menus
YYY=Network Code-What kind of network features are set for things like carrier aggregation and LTE/5G bands
ZZZ=Manufactured as Code- What model the phone was originally manufactured as. Ot has no affect on the system settings or options. THIS CAN NOT CHANGE. IT SHOULD ALWAYS BE THE SAME. ONLY A ROOTED PHONE WOULD BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE FILES NECCESSARY TO CHANGE THIS.
For the Example of VZW/VZW/XAA, this would mean that the phone was sold as unlocked from Samsung and has a VZW SIM in it, setting the sales and network codes to VZW (XXX and YYY should usually be the same since you want the Network setup to match the settings setup in the phone, but they can be different, especially if you try to change the CSC in the U carrier branded firmware.)
Changing CSC
*NOTE*Changing the CSC does not necessarily need the Google phone dialer like for the service menu, however, if you are on a CSC where the stock dialer does not provide you with the CSC change screen (Like when your code is XAA/XAA/XAA) you can attempt it through there and see if you can access it. I haven't been able to test this yet, so let me know.
First, go to settings->about phone and at the top you will see your IMEI. Press and hold on the IMEI number and you will get a popup saying copied to clipboard. Then, go to the phone dialer and dial:
*#272*
After you see the numbers dialed at the top, press and hold after the last * and select paste then dial #. Again, you should never have to actually press the call button. A screen will auto pop. If it does not, try the Google dialer.
*Pro Tip*
Since some CSCs do not allow dialing the IMEI (like the XAA CSC) I recommend after you get to this screen to first select the recent menus button on your phone and click on the CSC app icon in the mini view. But beware, this is not working in the One UI 3 beta!!
Then click on Keep Open for Quick Launching
Then you will have a lock at the bottom of that apps recent screen to show it will stay in recent menu, even after reboot and selecting close all apps button
As you can see, mine is selected to VZW/VZW which is the XXX/YYY portion of the XXX/YYY/ZZZ combo (again, ZZZ should not change. Only having root can change this!)
You can now select a CSC and then click install at the bottom. This will reboot the phone and should not wipe any data.
*Pro Tip*
At the bottom of the CSC screen, there is an option that says Don't change carrier(for DEV/QA). Well, you know how when you change the SIM on the U1 firmware, the phone detects and new SIM and reboots to apply the new carrier settings? You can choose this and select install and get a popup showing ENABLED and the phone won't reboot, allowing you to choose the CSC and keep it with whatever SIM is installed.
Here is a list of the available CSCs on the U1 and the Carriers I have found:
ACG=NexTech/C-Spire
ATT=AT&T
AIO=Cricket
LRA=Bluegrass Cellular (possibly other smaller carriers also)
VZW=Verizon
BST=Boost Mobile
TMB=Tmobile
TMK=MetroPCS
TFN=Tracfone
USC=U.S. Cellular
XAA=Unlocked Non-Branded (Google FI is an example)
XAR=Cellular South
XAS=Samsung Unbranded Sprint

XAG=Some MVNOs that use TMO, like Mint (confirmation needed)

I originally started this looking to see if that was possible, but have not found anything in the service menu. I believe this has to be enabled in the csc .XML feature file located in the system folder of the phone, which requires root. If there was a way to edit the CSC file before flashing it in ODIN that might work, but I am not sure how to do that or if it is possible.

There are no North American CSCs that support eSIM that I have found. If you flashed a CSC from a country that does support it, like France, then you get into issues with messaging, wifi calling and LTE/5G bands and data not working correctly which is a bigger problem and kind of defeats the purpose of having service on the phone anyways.

I do not have access to exynos n20. Service mode menus could be different.
As for the dial codes, the format in the stock dialer is *#[insert code]# and the Google dialer format is *#*#[insert code]#*#* ....another CSC code used back on the S8 was *#243203855# from the stock dialer and also with the combination firmware flash method, which I haven't researched for the n20.
This guide is definitely more geared towards the note 20 U/U1 snapdragon but the codes may still get you additional options in other regions.
Alright so I have done this on the ATT U version flashed to U1, and N12 doesn't end up appearing. Kinda weird. Also something weird is when you change the CSC and try to use ATT 5G it will not ever connect to 5G, just will show 5G indicator due to the upper layer Indicator. But I was able to enable N2,n5,n66 which ATT will end up using, and enabled DSS. Nothing changed and N5 is the only think available in my area as of yet. Do we know what DSS will look like if its being used? Will the *#0011# service mode show anything confirming DSS?
Also to note the DSH CSC has all NR bands unlocked from the get go.
Also I guess we can not enable SA on this yet. Would be cool to enable and test for active SA sites
N20U u1 with cricket sim. Can’t get the CSC menu to pop up on stock or google dialer. Any suggestions? Trying to change csc to Att to enable WiFi calling

SA is now enabled in the One UI 3 Beta Firmware. See screenshot for updated bands!!!
As far as the n12 band, I believe ATT uses band 17 for 700mhz. Whenever I have band 12 I don't have 17 and when I have 17 I don't have 12, so I am guessing the ATT CSC disables it.
To see if low band 5G is in use, dial *#0011# in the stock dialer (or *#*#0011#*#* in the google one) and you will see a line for NR Band. If there is something there, its in use. If not and have the 5G icon, it is upper layer. Also, you can just open ookla speed test. If the bottom line says LTE and you have 5G signal bar, its upper layer.
Yeah I updated to the beta as soon as I did that post. N12 is what ATT used as it is a superset of Band 17 for years now. N12 is there if you flash the DSH csc though which was weird. Also the speed test method doesn't always work. It takes a bit to be accurate and with NSA on ATT and others it sometimes will still say LTE in speediest but be on 5G with an NSA connection

If you enable the NR5G PRUNE, the phone will disable some NR 5G bands based on your CSC.
Disable the prune will enable all the nr bands on the modem.

It looks like the n9860 support 5g bands 1 and 78, they may also support 41 and 79. What bands are you looking for?

Yep, not a lot of band variety in your region. US has several though, so our firmware has more that are hidden.

On the U1, you can insert a sim from another carrier and get the reboot pop-up and that resets nearly all service mode settings. On the U or U1, you can change the csc to another and then back, that resets most changed settings. You can also reboot into recovery and wipe or reset from the settings menu.
On this step:

I do not have the 6th step. It says "NR DSS No Support". I have a Sprint SM-N986U. I was able to do all of the other steps up until this point. Without this option (Enabling DSS), will I still notice any benefits?
