When I run the diagnostics app or dial ##634# I can get into the diangostics application, but when I try any of the codes nothing happens. Is there supposed to be a send button or something?
All I see is:
Diagnostics (ver .0929)
An area where the #'s typed show up, a -/minus button that deletes the last typed key
The numeric keypad itself (0-9, * and # keys)
When I type in codes, ie. #1234# - the numbers show up but no dialogs or anything is showing up.
Anybody see this? Thanks in advance
Barry Gervin
Did you enter * before #1234#? Try *#1234#

My wife own's the MDA which is great for text entry into her spreadsheets but what about those darn number keys. It seems that on a standard keyboard, numbers are entered when they are typed from the top row. I would like to map one of the buttons to toggle those on/off as needed with an indicator of some sort so that she would know if numbers were on/off. Is there a good app for this.
Also, our child (2nd grade now) has had trouble writing and it occured to me that the MDA could make an excellent teacher of such tasks if the software existed. Does any software exist that might allow a child to practice writing?
Tapping the "dot" (key left bottom) twice will put an "dot" indicator on you're screen and you will type only numbers. Tapping twice again will turn it off. Tapping once will give you one number. Is this what you mean?
molski has a cab file on his site to enable the screen to show a 'dot' or a 'c' (Caps lock) if either is selected. there is also a registry fix - see the wiki fro wm5 tweaks

sort-of. By default, on a PC, you have numbers when you type. By default on an MDA, you don't. If I wanted to change the registry or some setting elsewhere so that it would more closely mimic a standard keyboard (sort-of backward from the current method), could this be done?
Hi,
I created HButton for smartphones. BUT I have no smartphone so I developed it on smartphone emulator.
I will be very gladly, if there is someone who can test it.
Please note: Test it on your own risk - never been run on real smartphone.
thanks
Hundera
Great! While I have no time to test it right now, I'll frontpage the news if it turns out to be working!

Hi,
I created it little messy. It has to be changed before official release.
* Using * assign it to any HW button. I don't know if there will be name and icon of selected button or just something like "unknown 40C1".
* Create list of applciations
* Left and right button select preferred application* enter to add it to list* Press OK.
thats all. Now you should be able to start application using HButton....
What now?
I managed to do almost everything:
I assigned applications to the list of button1,
I clicked on '*', and so
Assigned to (*) displays "Unknown 40C1"
When I run the application Button1 manually, the application I chose for Button1 is run.
But what now? What do I have to press to make the application run? What is button1? I tried all buttons, pressing for various lengths of time, but I can't get it to run.
Do I need to edit the registry so that the application "Button1" is assigned to some button?
Hi,
at first thanks for help.
"Unknown 40C1" means - there are registry part about this button. In SPh, there's missing names of buttons - so name is unknown.
I has no SPh, only emulator. I checked registry and there is all ok - only names are missing. All flags and path to applications that should be started are similar to pocketpc.
These registry settings are altered by my program so HButton1 should be started by button with code "40C1". What button it is - I really don't know. That's what I need to test.
But as you describe it, it looks like that these settings are ignored.... So Where is settings of button's behavior on smartphone?!?!

not totally sure
I'm no expert in this.
If I understand correctly, one way to do it is through links in the \windows directory,
so
\windows\short_MSG
is a link to the program called when the message button is pressed
\windows\short_Camera, and short_IE
are for camera and explorer button.
But I think there are also other places to set these. And some phones allow long_MSG,IE,Camera links for long button press - not mine.
I tried to copy the Button1 link to short_MSG, and that managed to run the first command in the list for button1, but not the next on a longer press. (And it still launched the message program first, so there must be a second place that determines what is launched...)
Maybe people in the smartphone forum will have more info...
All this was on an s620 WM6.1
just a few more comments
Now that I can get HButton to partially run, I have a few comments:
I'm not exactly sure why, but going from HBSetup to configure buttons 1 and 2 takes a really long time. HButtonTask is much shorter. Maybe it is because a list of all programs is generated, and this takes time? In any case, maybe one could display a message "please wait..." - the first time I thought the program had crashed.
Pressing left (instead of right) when the bottom selector in HButton1 setup shows <None> crashes the program (ArgumentOutOfRangeException)
In HButtonTask setup there are two arrows below Custom delay (I think to chose the delay), but no number is displayed, and pressing left-right only toggles the boxes.
<Start Menu> doesn't work. <Clock>, <Toggle BT>, <Quit>, <Today> do work. <Back> behaves a bit differently than the Back key - it switches between tasks, instead of screens - but that's ok and can be useful!
In the HButton1/2 setup screens, I would change the left softkey to "save" instead of "ok". Too often I pressed that button instead of the center/enter button to change the action on the list. Because it takes ~10 seconds to enter the screen again, it is quite annoying....
Hi
I am really interested in this project if is still under developement
Can anyone confirm/help with this behavior? When in the Tasks app on WM and typing a new task into entry bar at the top, the first time it works fine. I can hit Enter and the task gets added to the list. However, after that point if tap the entry bar again to enter a second task, the cursor appears correctly but typing letters on the keyboard has no effect whatsoever. Nothing appears in the entry field. Until I type either Space or Backspace, at which point I can again type regular letters and they will show up.
Does anyone else encounter this issue, and is there any known fix? Also, what is the normal behavior after hitting Enter to confirm a new task. Is the cursor supposed to stay active in the cleared entry bar, ready for a new entry, the way it does on regular Outlook for full-sized Windows Desktop? For me it disappears and the text "Tap here to enter a new task" fills the entry bar until I click it again. I have to do this every time, which can be annoying if I wanted to enter ten new tasks in a row.
Any help is appreciated, thanks...
No replies at all? Could someone else with a Vogue please just test this and let me know the results? Just go to Tasks list, click in the new task entry bar at the top, type in a new task, hit Enter on the keyboard, then tell me:
1) Where does the cursor go immediately after that? Does it stay in the new task entry bar, ready for more text? And..
2) If you try to enter a second task at this point from the new task entry bar, do the letters you type show up? Or do you have to hit backspace or spacebar before they do?
Please and thank you...
After entering the first task & hitting enter. The task I just created is highlighted. There is no cursor & my keyboard disappears. When I tap to bring up the keyboard again & start typing. What I am typing does show up in the entry bar. Note: I am using a custom ROM though.

Interesting... which ROM would that be? Do you have any other OS changers installed like SPB Mobile Shell etc?
Currently using NFSFAN's 1.15.
Not using SPB mobile shell or diary.
I have the stock WM6.1 rom on my XV6900 and I have the same "problem".
I usually enter tasks one at a time, but I did notice that when entering one after another, it just doesn't type in.
I don't know how to solve it, but it's not that big of a deal for me.
Hi does anyone here know how to get into diagnostics mode with the Fascinate?
I've tried searching everywhere and using the codes for the Epic and other Galaxy S phones but it doesn't work.
If anyone out here knows it, let me know thanks!

I know this is accessible by way of creating shortcuts directly to the various actions but I thought I would share this for anyone interested.
To access the hidden menus from the dialer:
• Open the dialer and enter *#83786633 then press the Home key
• Open the dialer again (clear previously entry if it is still present) enter *#22745927
• Enter the SPC 000000 then enable Hidden Menu
Now you can enter Service Mode by entering **772

That is the manual programming screen for the phone.
It's used for programming the handset in the event that OTA programming is not available.
The usual diagnostic mode dialing code on Androids is *#*#4636#*#*.
That dialing pattern works on my Droid 1 and HTC Incredible.
This changed with the Fascinate (maybe Samsungs in general- I haven't checked).
Someone needs to find the dialing form (eg *#*#<code>#*#*) that the secret codes are in.
I'm sure it's somewhere in the phone. I just don't know where to look.
I have a separate thread created asking for help find it.
The thread is called ' Sidetone - Need android_secret_code to access menu'
The diag. code for the Fascinate is *#0*#
you can check **33284
i usually use **USBUI (**87284) and it works i nut phone in modem then qpst find the phone and i do what i need to off that screen !
Menu > Settings > Wireless & Networks
Enable Dial up Networking (Note: Be sure to disable this after flash has been performed)
Next..
Menu > Settings > Applications > Development
Enable USB Debugging
-------------------------------------------
If Dial-up Networking is not showing perform the following. Dial **33284 followed by SPC (000000 or 468346 ) then scroll to Port Map and select HFK,DIAG. Once this is complete, you should now have Dial-up Networking showing up under Wireless and Network.
Bypass Activation:
Press "Emergency Call"
Dial *#83786633 then press send
After you press "send" press the "home" key and you should now be passed activation
-------------------------------------------
Or (**87284)
Open dialer and enter ##8778# and... voila!!!

+1, I was going to say this as well. Did some googling the other day and found this. Change USB from pda to modem.
I did this and was able to access phone in QPST to fix.

Well guys i need to enter in Phone Information, error with Apps and from dialer cant enter in "4636" code.
It's far from clear what you are asking - your question is vague and might be talking about a number of things. Try phrasing it differently or at least elaborate more and someone should be able to help you.
Dialer codes are not intended for end users and only work on certain models and firmware versions. A lot of dialer codes will work if entered from a terminal window rather than the keypad. Or look for a Play store app instead e.g. this or this.

- If you mean you want to get important info about your device, try Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app.
- If you mean about secret codes *#*#4636#*#*, install Shortcut Master app. You can launch this code by one of the following ways:
a) Open menu 'Secret Code Explorer', scroll down to 4636 and tap to launch it. Here you can find many secret codes available for your device, e.g. *#0*#, *#12580*369#, *#1234#, etc...
b) OR open menu Search, enter the 'testingsetting' to search. Finally tap on the search result to launch. You can also create a shortcut for easy access later.
The only app that works is Shortcut Master, [email protected]
The others apps says that my S5 don't have API for this.
