I bought a galaxy S4 i9500 three months ago and it was fine until recently when it stopped charging with the orginial charger. I tried a different charger (but with the original cable) and it worked. I took it to Samsung where I bought it from and they've tried several different chargers and came to the conclusion that it's a software issue. So I did a factory reset and it started to charge with the original charger and cable, but after restoring everything back, it brought me back to my problem. The phone is rooted.
I'd unroot and get a warranty exchange.

I was actually thinking about trying to solve this without much hassle, but if I do hit a dead-end I'll go back to them again.

I don't really think they'd instantly hand me a new S4, they're probably just going to give it a factory reset and tell me to start over again.

Nope, they likely will hand you a new S4. They did that for my exchange which was hardware failure of the power button.

I think I should mention that Im in Qatar and I havent bought this from ATT. This was the only place I found suitable to post so sorry if it's in the wrong place. Also, I just did another factory restore and it stopped charging with the original charger
You say that it worked after doing a factory reset, but stopped working after you restored from (assuming) a nadroid backup. That backup may very well just be your issue.

Yes, that was the case until I recently did ANOTHER factory reset which essentially stopped it again. I've handed it over to Samsung now, also we bought another S4 today and I tried using that charger and it seemed to work?
So does the new S4 you got work after restoring your backup to that?
Sounds like a backup issue, with a clean factory reset it should work (without restoring to the nandroid). If 3rd party chargers worked but Samsung's didn't than it is definitely software related. Restoring the original framework, system and kernel should fix it. The root itself should have no effect.

Hey guys. Anybody else with this problem? Every time I open my camera app, it freezes. Then the warning box comes on and says "camera failed".
I'm not rooted. I also did a hard reset but the same problem occurs.
Had the phone for a day and also applied my screen protector. Don't want the hassle of returning it and getting a new one, although that might be my only solution right now?
Just wondering if there are other users out there with the same issue and maybe an update would fix this.
Thanks in advance.

Broken
Get it replaced from Samsung, It's not a software issue.
Good luck with samsung
I have had camera stutter/lag (taking photos and on one video the recording glitched).
The camera not even working? That's definitely a bring back and replace since it seems not all units are doing it.

From my experience, reflashing the firmware via odin doesn't helps at all. Same goes for factory reset.

Having the same problem with mine, it's starts fine then after couple of times opening the app it goes black then reboots, hope a SW update helps as I guess it's a camera software problem.

I took mine into the Verizon store, and they flat out replaced my phone with no questions. Didn't even attempt to factory reset it. I guess Samsung knows about this hardware issue. Didn't even have mine a week, and it was rooted. replacement no questions asked!
Same just go into your local store. They should replace it np.

I've had my s4 for 5 days and today I just started getting the "Camera failed" error.
Guess I'll take it back into the AT&T store...
I've had my TMob S4 for about a week and encountered this a # of times this AM for the first time. After some reboots, it stopped occurring. I realize it usually works great after reboots, but several times this AM it would work fine initially, then start malfunctioning with further manipulation (going into camera repeatedly, turning the front camera then switching back,etc.). Haven't been able to reproduce it all day though.
Has me a bit concerned it will come back once the trade-in period has elapsed. Which is theoretically tomorrow!
Edit: I think the problem was caused by me flashing files that were supposed to restore a photo sphere camera to the GS4. Didn't work and probably messed up stock as well (there's a newer attempt out there but I don't want it that bad to test out). I restored the backup and it works fine now. Funny thing is right after restoring it, I still had problems with the camera fail error.
Facing the same problem here. I've already reset the device to factory defaults but trying that was even a waste of time since I've got this problem since day 0, so it couldn't be due to anything that I did myself (it just never worked from the beginning).
Anyway, after that I ran the hardware test via: *#0*# The front facing camera works just fine, but the back facing camera doesn't. Since I'm living in the caribbean and ordered the phone via the US, I'm thinking of just replacing the camera myself, I saw that replacement parts on for example Ebay are about $30. Think I'll try that instead of going through all the hassle of shipping the device back. The modularity is one of the great things of the S4, replacing the camera yourself seems quite easy. Needless to say in most situations you should just return the phone under guarantee.

Nope, didnt help ! It's now at Samsung Netherlands. I bought it in the US and live on Aruba, but I'm visiting the Netherlands for a few weeks and a local repairshop sent it out to Samsung Netherlands. I think (and hope) they'll fix it under warranty. Which would be a great service. But Apple does something similar too, my brother had a problem with a his Iphone 5 (the on/off button stopped working), he went to the Apple shop in amsterdam and they just gave him a new phone, no questions asked, he didnt even have to show his warranty papers (which I didnt neither btw). Hoping it will be fixed under warranty, will know probably next week !
*EDIT* replacing the cam myself solved the problem !!
I recently hard bricked my galaxy s4 ive only had the phone for less than 5 days I can't claim it to insurance nor return it because I bought it from a friend. It won't turn on and none of the buttons work. I was trying to unroot my phone and return to a stock kernel and firmware. Is there anything I can do if its hard bricked to get it in download mode. I've already tried making a usb jig and it didn't work. I'm at a loss. I don't have the money to get a new phone or pay for someone to fix mine. Thanks in advance.

I tried a different battery as well as different cables and chargers all with no luck. I'm almost 100% sure this phone is hard bricked. I don't understand why a phone would be made that can essentially go into a bricked mode that is ridiculous even if you root it. There should be some type of fail safe boot mode to restore back to stock settings.

using a usb jig will not help you if you have it hard bricked. usb jigs will only work on soft bricks.. so basically what you need now is someone to JTAG it (idk if jtags work on the S4, but afaik, most of the galaxy devices are revived via jtag)

Get the police involved, or at least theaten to do so and get your phone back. Even if the "friend" claims they didn't know, they participated in the exchange of stolen goods and can be prosecuted despite having no knowledge of the crime.

I've had my phone work perfect since September 2nd when I bought from Verizon.

If there is a problem might be best to go through Samsung for a repair instead of Verizon to just get a refurbished device. That's what I'd do.
Before you reset/return...take your battery out for 10 min. or so...and then restart your device...maybe the battery voltage or calibration is causing the speaker interference...it's worth a shot.

Well I think it was the battery. The microphone seems to work now. Did 3 voice recordings. All of them came out crystal clear with and without background noise.
Good to hear...it wouldn't hurt to purchase a new charger too.
I'm gonna hang on to the charger, its the first offical charger I've had in awhile. My DINC, nexus and gs3 all burned through their real charger oddly quick. I think its the weather where I'm from its been 111°-120°f for all of September

My snapdragon phone started acting weird today. Was slow and locked up for many minutes doing just simple tasks.
Took a backup of the phone and ran a factory reset.
The phone was fast and smooth after this and i was satisfied. But then i did a reboot, and the phone never booted again.
It does not even charge. Just dead.
Anyone else had this issue? Had the phone since release, and it has never been rooted or anything that would break warranty, so i will contact the place i bought it from.
But can this might be battery related? In that case it would be much easier for me to get a new battery.
Have tried to charge it for a while without any result. Does not seem to draw any power either as the charger is cold..
but when i plug it in the pc, windows detects something for about 2 seconds, but claims it's unrecognizable...
Rocking my Nexus 4 now, smooth phone with android 6.0, but camera and battery sucks bigtime... I want my note back..
I have exact same problem. But my phone was rooted and service center told me my warranty is void. They told me the mainboard is bad and need to be replaced. It will cost about half of the new phone price...

Take it to a different store from your carrier and this time don't tell them its been rooted. Tell them it hasn't been if they ask and they should replace it.
Have tried every combination possible with holding in buttons. No sign of life.. Good thing i got a backup while it was still "working"
I have had many plans to root the device and get in some custom ROM but i have been satisfied with stock and never found the time to do it, and i am happy for that now

Yeah, i don't know why the note 4s hard brick them selfs like that, must be a bug/glitch.
Seems like the store i bought it from has 2 years warranty. But in Norway we anyway have a 5 year "mini warranty" on electronics that is decided by law. So if the problem is not caused by mistreatment or water damage you should get it fixed for free within 5 years anyway.
Motherboard was faulty (as suspected)
Try to re-install a stock firmware (latest version) from sammobile with odin. This is the fast mode to revover your phone .
Really, I am super unlucky with my Samsung mobiles...
My S7 edge (international Exynos, unlocked) is stock and unrooted.
I had a SW update (small one, only 12Mb) a few days ago.
Then, all of a sudden, my S7 edge started to reboot itself during the night. Just once, but then on the next day again.
Once it froze and then rebooted, so I went into the recovery to perform a wipe cache.
First thing I noticed there: When entering the recovery it says something like "system update" and you see the droid standing there.
Then after a few seconds, the droid seems to be broken / system update failing with a big exclamation mark. I am sure you know what I am talking about.
Also when rebooting out of the recovery, it writes the error message "Unable to mount data (invalid argument)". You can just see that message for a millisecond before the reboot starts.
Sooo, anyway: In the recovery I wiped the cache and rebooted.
During the Samsung logo buildup the process froze. Then
--> Boot loop.
A few dozen loops, with the Samsung logo always freezing, later it came back to life, but still would boot loop when restarted.
So I did a factory reset. Did not fix it. Then I flashed my Firmware via ODIN again. Still not fixed.
As a last resort I used Smart Switch to do a emergency restore, you know the one where you have to input your mobile's serial number.
So Smart Switch flashed my initial stock firmware, BUT
Still the phone is behaving the same and looping. Sometimes I get it online and then everything seems to work fine, but after going to recovery:
Same broken droid guy, same loop afterwards.
I guess something is really corrupted or hw-wise dying.
Any further ideas if I can try something else? Or is Samsung Service my only hope :crying:
Sound like EPROM issue. Means memory problem. Take it to Samsung if is possible
Have you managed to fix your phone? I am experiencing this same thing except it all started back in November.
To be honest, you sound like you've done everything most people would suggest with reflashing etc. So this does really sound hardware based. Look at a warranty replacement?

Check this problem if some time reboot see it auto enter download mode and have message like can not read memory nand. Mean nand dying because device have run with hot along time.
Thx guys, I will bring it next week to Samsung service center.
It doesn't say anything about "Can't read memory" or something, I've seen that error already when the internal memory of my note 4 died. But as no flashing attempts fixed my S7, who knows what's really up... Samsung shall take care of it. I didn't root because of my experiences with my note 4, and good so... 3 months after I bought the S7 it's already f*ing corrupt

I also got mine back from Samsung Service and it's working again.
Since it took them only 1 day to repair and they even didn't remove my screen protector, I am quite sure that they just did some advanced reflashing and no hardware change was required.
Now I am wondering what they can flash which we can't :silly:

Since it took them only 1 day to repair and they even didn't remove my screen protector, I am quite sure that they just did some advanced reflashing and no hardware change was required.
Now I am wondering what they can flash which we can't :silly:

That's awesome man! You seem really lucky. The techs that checked your phone were probably skilled enough to fix the issue. Those that checked mine couldn't even tell me what they found and just told me that a new motherboard is needed. I doubt they even tried.
Did your phone behave weirdly again after you got it back?

Actually I was wrong, the Samsung tech's really changed the mainboard - it wasn't just a reflash. Just had a look at the receipt where it was written
And yes, now it's working as it should.

Oh then that means my board is truly the problem. Did the tech tell you what caused it? I tried asking but they keep saying they don't know.
Now they are going to charge me $300 for a new board. :crying:
