Amoled cracked. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Well my wife had her s4 in her purse (in a fully protected grant and back flip case) and today it cracked out of nowhere. The phone is obviously like brand new with no scratches, including on the screen. However the underneath amoled is cracked.
From my understanding, Samsung isn't acknowledging any kind of design flaws on these right? I've read many similar reports. We both got ours the first week, so it would be one of the first batches.
What's the best way to get this fixed and how much does it cost?

If outer physical parts aren't damaged you could get it fixed by warranty.
I did it. Just call Samsung and tell them screen looks totally fine but when turned on, it shows as if you are looking through the spider web. They will honor the warranty repair.

I called a warramty service center and they disagreed. They said a cracked, even if only inside the screen, is not covered under warranty

Hmm. That's funny. I called and they wanted photo of device on and off under the light reflected environment. I guess they wanted to compare non scratched surface and spider web effect on screen. I emailed the guy and he got me with warranty replacement.
You might want to keep calling Samsung.
This is what I said: all of the sudden I'm seeing screen with bunch of lines. My screen shows no signs of any sracthes nor damages when turned off. But when turned on, it shows.
He asked do all lines meet at any point, I am assuming he wanted to find out maybe it was stepped on or gotten any strong pressure at one point.
I said no, he wanted picture of it to make sure my story checks before we move forward.
I took few pictures sent it to him and he took care of it.

Well mine does have a small little cracked in it. It's in the very bottom right edge of the amoled. So they said that would make it considered physical damage, regardless of if it was because of a weaker part and we didn't do anything.

I was considering a gently used S4 on craigslist but decided not to get it after seeing so many scary reports of damaged amoled S4s. It is especially risky given that the warranty claim may not work for second owners... I found this thread that someone was able to get it fixed in Singapore and it is a known issue that affects a percentage of users...
http://communityforums.rogers.com/t5/forums/forumtopicpage/board-id/Android/thread-id/19121/page/3
However there are mixed reports regarding Samsung's willingness to repair the damaged digitizer.
Thanks for sharing the info.... I have decided to pick up an LG G2 instead..

Mine cracked out of no where as well I was pissed because I was rooted and for some reason on amy computer it wouldnt recognize in odin so I couldnt send into samsung. I tell you though having square trade warrenty is the best

Need some opinions on warranty replacement

So, here's my story.
The screen "died" on my Fascinate last Friday (4 days ago). When I took it off charge in the morning (I always charge it overnight), I noticed some discoloration in the center of the screen. Phone was still functional, but I really didn't look into much as I was leaving for work. After about 2 hours, I looked at the phone again and the screen was much worse. It now had an image burned on it and it was getting darker. Touch screen also stopped working about this time. Well, after another hour or two, I couldn't see anything on the screen except for a small bit at the very top of the screen.
I called the Verizon store over lunch and explained what happened, they patched to another tech support guy who had me pull the battery, which helped nothing. So, he put through to overnight me a replacement, which is arriving today. Well, I picked the broken phone this morning which has been powered off all weekend, and when I looked at it in the light I could see the screen underneath is cracked in an arch at the top. I have no idea how it could have happened. I'm very gentle with my phone and have no memory of when such damage could have occurred. This is the first time I noticed it, and you really have to look at it at the right angle to even see it. The glass on top is flawless and the phone shows no other signs of damage.
I'm really not sure what to do at this point. Is Verizon going to notice it and tack the $500 or so onto my bill? Should I call them and explain what happened? I'm pretty sure there's a good chance it will just slip through the cracks when they receive my broken phone, but I guess my conscience is getting the best of me. Anyone have any thoughts on my situation or experienced similar in the past with Verizon?
I'm guessing you have asurion insurance? I believe you can so 2 replacements a year. That being said... You're first replacement came in broken and I wouldn't accept it.

I do not, which is why I was happy when they told me it was a warranty replacement. My heart kind of sunk when I saw the crack
An arch from electrical current? If that's the case maybe call and tell them. Just be sure you don't have water damage.

Definitely no water damage.
Not an arch from electrical current. The crack is in a arch shape. No idea what the cause was. I'm just afraid once I send it back, they are going to see it and claim abuse and charge me for the replacement. If there's a good chance that could happen, I may want to just send the warranty replacement phone back and replace the screen in my broken phone for $100.
If the crack is under the main screen then i would say it will be covered easily. I had a BB Storm where the screen was fine but the digitizer shattered. Vzw store replaced it without a problem.
Sounds like a manufacturing defect to me . AFAIK your phone has a 1 year manufacturer's (Samsung) warranty so Verizon probably won't care to replace it since the replacement cost won't be coming out of their pocket.
"its cracked?" "it wasnt went i sent it. They must have dropped it in shipping" ive been told works with customer service, its not worth their time arguing with you.
One thing with verizon I have noticed it's they really don't have too much of a conscience when it comes to us customers, so why have one with them. Warranty replace it and claim it must have happened during shipment if they notice. doubt they will argue. I know some people misuse the warranty replacement thing, but apparently you aren't. I forgot to replace the official software bacl on one of my storm replacements (there were 11 total and they were all legit) they didnt even notice. Odds are the screen will get replaced and sent off to another customer and they will be none the wiser

dust under the screen?

I have only been using this phone for about a week. has anyone has this problem and send it to htc to repair? does this cover under warranty??
This was a huge issue with my MT3G Slide. If I remember correctly, it is a warranty issue. You can send it to HTC or (not sure) I think T-Mobile will replace it. The problem is with the glue that holds the digitizer to the screen, it's crap.
Also, when you get your new phone go into a dark room and check for light leaks. Probably under the top shell so open the keyboard and look on the back side of the screen.
i have had my desire z for nearly 2 months now, no dust yet
I was in your spot a few weeks ago. Dust just magically accumulated under the screen one night. A few days later it bugged me so much I called T-mobile, explained that there is dust underneath the screen and that there is no physical damage on the phone. They sent out a replacement that night and I got it 3 days later. No issues no cost to me free shipping both ways.
They did this for me on a used phone I brought in too, so I'm sure there would be no issue getting yours replaced if its new especially.

I had the same issue caused by the screen not being aligned properly with the casing which left a 1mm gap between the the screen and casing allowing dust and fluff to seep through. It's a manufacturing fault so just send it back to htc. If you're rooted, best to unroot first, you don't want to give them any ammunition;, )

It's covered on warranty, you don't have to pay for anything, best to contact htc via email to keep a paper trail on things. They will send out a courier to pick up your phone, it's only a simple procedure so it shouldn't take long.

when i contact htc.... they said "At that stage the choice is given to either go ahead with the repair or have the phone returned. To have the phone returned a fee of approximately £20 for courier costs and the evaluation is applicable." which makes me slightly confused
you still have dust problem after the fix?
Had my g2 for like 4 month no dust. That's good am with T-mobile. They will replace your phone even if you have the the smallest problem.

I'm slightly confused myself, the way I interpret your text is that after evaluation should you decide not to have your phone repaired then they will charge you for courier costs to have your phone returned to you. Like I said previously it should be covered by warranty so you won't have to pay a penny.
After repair, the dust problem is soughted.
Depending on how bad the dust is...take your phone and repeatedly, but lightly tap it on a table...the dust particle will eventually, make it to the edge of the screen and get "stuck there" and you won't be able to see it anymore. At least, most of the time, it will.
verkion
Dust problem does get worse..... only time I am free enough to let htc collect my phone is easter....
Mm... I will try the tap method.......

What a bummer, that's a long wait. Just so that you're aware it doesn't have to be your home address, you can use friends, family, work etc. address. The courier can just pick up/drop off even when you're not there.

I don't know if this thread is still alive, i hope it is.
Well, I got my G2 just about a couple of weeks ago. Got it off kijiji, cuz the gentleman who sold it to me told me that it has warranty till september 2011, i decided to buy it. It still does have warranty. It has got 2 problems, 1 with battery, the phone is s-off, rooted, and modded with CM Nightly RC1, and the battery just runs out very quickly, i have to charge the phone atleast twice a day. and 2nd is with he screen, it has got dust underneath, on right hand top corner, so i decided to call htc directly and find out if i can send the phone off for repair, and if i could get a replacement battery.
The girl on the other side was nice enough that she is sending me a new battery, so one problem will be solved, then I asked her if i can send the phone back to them to get it fixed.
I am actually worried about 2 things. One is how do I put the stock rom back on the phone? I am not a great modder and don't really know(i think little bit research will help, as i found this thread after search) and two is i am really afraid of htc charging me for something i might not have done. such as liquid damage. physically the phone looks great. no scratches or any sort of physical dent marks. but liquid damage is something really scares me out.
what should I do?
I need some advise from my fellow xda folks... Please help me out...
As far as i know, if you grab the official firmware from bell, (i assume bell because you said kijiji and that is normally canadian), load that up and make sure your recovery is stock, htc will not even know if you had a custom rom in it.
As for the water damage, there is usually a small white sticker where the battery usually sits. This sticker changes colour if it is exposed to excessive moisture. If this sticker is still white, then you are fine.

Not actually, i got the G2 off kijiji, the tmobile version which i use for my wind mobile sim card.
I called htc directly and the girl on the other side said the phone is fixable being in canada but i m just curious and concern about the charges they might apply to fix this... i asked her specifically that if i m in canada are you sure there will be no charge for me to pay? she said, we will require your credit card which has at least a dollar value on it, just for security(which i thought is weird as i have N1 i had to sent out for repair and they didn't ask for my credit card info... i asked her and she said N1 and G2 are two different cases handled by two different operational teams, they don't require info for N1 as its a Google phone, while G2 is sold by tmobile, my cc info they will use in case if there is any liquid or physical damage and i will have to pay for at least shipment back which is $35)
regarding the sticker, i can see a small white rounded sticker underneath the battery which is fairly white so far... i assume that's the one and doesn't look like it has changed color significantly, but I am still afraid - i think i might color blind... lol... i had a problem before with rogers bb bold, where i sent the phone in for repair and they said it has got liquid damage as the sticker has turned blue and i had to pay $250 for it...
That's the reason I need suggesions from ya'll people... how can I make sure my phone is damage free and can get the dust problem fixed?
i am really scared and totally confused...

Ahh, just wanted to clarify since I didn't see any of the T-Mobile versions on Kijiji when I did my shopping.. If that's the case and you have the G2, then you should be able to pop by the T-Mobile site and grab the stock ROM off them. I also saw a list of stock roms somewhere on this site for the DZ/G2.
If the water sticker is whitish, then it's still good. As long as it's not red/pink or blue, those would be a sure sign of water damage.
The only reason why they would need a credit card, in my opinion, is for any unexpected charges that they would apply to it in the case of a necessary repair that is not covered under warranty. But other than that, I wouldn't know why else.
I hope you get it sorted out.
Regards.

Misaligned slider cracks bezel

I noticed small stress fractures on the size bezel near the power button a while back. They kept getting worse and worse. Finally, it turned into a crack, and the cracked piece would jut out every time I closed the phone. That piece eventually broke off.
Then I noticed a had a similar crack forming on the bottom right side. Well, a little deduction, and both cracks at perfectly aligned with the slider tracks you can see on the back of the phone.
This is a refurb phone I got. Since day one, I noticed the top and bottom halves didn't align perfectly. Like the keyboard half of the phone would slide a couple mm past where it was supposed to. It bothered me, but I thought it was trivial...
Well, now I suspect that the over-extension of the sliding mechanism was putting force on the bezel each time I closed the phone, and eventually it will break a piece of the bottom, too.
Otherwise the phone is pristine. No scratches or scuffs. This is obviously due to a mechanical defect. But big shock, I took it to the Sprint store and they said they don't have the parts to fix it in stock, and they can't order me a replacement because it's "purely cosmetic". Called customer service and got the same answer. They offered to let me pay the $100 deductible for an Asurion claim, even though both defects and normal wear and tear are covered under the no-fee ESR program.
It's really more than a cosmetic issue. With parts of the bezel cracked off, the phone snags everything, I'm afraid I'm going to rip my pocket open and crack the thing off worse.
I am about the the point of frying the circuitry and saying it broke. This is such nonsense. Why does Sprint always have to make it such a hassle to fix phones? Every single replacement I've ever gotten from them has been like pulling teeth. I pay $8 a month so when crap like this happens, it's covered.
Anyone have any advice for me? I used to have the energy to spend hours and hours hounding Sprint to give me the service I'm actually paying for, but I'm not sure I do anymore.
This happened to my phone (still the original) months ago but only on one side. That, the tw strip screen burn in, and the chrome chipping are the physical wear n tear defects I live with. Good luck getting yours resolved. I'm sure it's a gamble when getting a replacement.

I'm not looking to screw Sprint here or anything.
Please do not discuss fraud on public forums.

How is it fraud!? If sprint can't cover damages from a faulty device, then what else would be left to do but break it in a way that they're forced to cover? They make enough $ with the monthly "protection" fees. Just my $0.2

I guess I understand the site rules, but I'm the one being frauded here. It's a little bizarre to allow people to post WiFi hacks that let you get a service without paying for it, but trying to get Sprint to fix an honest-to-god problem is somehow not allowed. Oh what a world.
Sounds like a discussion between you and Sprint Executive services. I just can't let that kind of talk sit in a "public" area.....if you catch my drift.
Sent from my PantechP4100 using xda premium
Yep, we are definitely here to enjoy our phone support. The countless hours that go into the ROMs, Themes, and apps that sprint doesn't include are the reason XDA was invented in the first place. I respect the rules of XDA and I abide by them, but if sprint can't cover faulty devices even though we pay for coverage, then what should people do? Its a pointless argument, but frustrating the least.

If it was noticed when the phone was first received it should have been brought back immediately for another one. This is the kind of thing that should be taken to the manager of that store. Reports filed with the Better Business Bureau get an immediate call from Executive Services as well as letters to Dan Hesse' office. There are many more legal options to be pursued

Spontaneous screen defect (Hairline crack.)

As the title suggests, I have a screen defect on my Galaxy Note 2. I swear, I did not do this. I have never dropped my phone, I've had an otterbox case since I've bought it. I cherished my little gem, always put her down gently. I never threw it about, I was far beyond cautious.
Anyway, the issue happened sometime on Sunday the 2nd of December between the hours of 06:15 and 10:00am. During the early hours of a British morning; It was around -5c where I live. Before I left at 5:00am, the phone was in pristine condition. Not a single hair, speck of dust or fingerprint gleaming in the light. I had this in my pocket for the journey and came home at the mention hours, (6:15am.) I then placed my Galaxy Note 2 on my bench press bench, and went back to bed. Upon waking, to my horror; There was this monstrosity of a crack. Now, I know there are many naysayers around, "Glass just wont crack on its own, HURH," but let me tell you, it can.
As soon as I noticed this crack, I was straight on the phone to my service provider (Which is O2-UK,) and booked it in for a repair / collection. All was dandy, it was collected and arrived at the service center. Now, today - on the 4th of December 2012; They are saying that I am out of warranty. At this comment, I saw red. This is a 3 month phone, pristine condition; No marks, no bashes IMMACULATE bar the screen. I wrote out a detailed report stating what has happened but to no avail. The supposed, "Engineer" at the O2 repair center has filed the report of, "Accidental damage."
Now, in what way is that accidental damage? I CLEARLY stated what happened, I even went as far to get an Affidavit at my own expense. I then asked if I could have the engineer's report, but no. As an O2 customer, we are not allowed the filed, "Reports" that ascertain to our own property. I quoted segments of the Data protection act, as well as legislation and regulations of the Sales of Goods Act of 1979 (amended,) which clearly state that I am well within my rights. I was quoted £110 for the screen repair but hell will freeze over before I pay that.
I'm without a phone now, I can easily get it back if I pay the fees. I have wrote a formal letter, as well as an email stating that they are in fact in breach of the Sales of Goods Act, as well as the Data Protection Act. I have given them a week to reply to my letter. I am going to be seeing a solicitor in the coming days, as well as the CAB (Citizens advice bureau,) just to get support.
To reiterate this thread: I have not damaged my phone in any way. This is clearly a manufacturing defect which O2 are held responsible for, (See the Sales of Goods Act. The retailer (In this case O2,) is held liable for checking every product they sell.)
I shall keep you kind folks posted as to what happens. However, for now; I am not paying my pay monthly bill until this is sorted. As I told the O2 representative this; I was informed that I would have legal action taken against me. What do I say? Bring it on.
EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=dc9c5YFyovU <--- This video shows what the Galaxy Note 2 can withstand. This is my silver lining to win this case. The phone is not for the purpose of, despite what Samsung say. Win
Not taking sides, but I'll say this; a similar thing happened with my HOX but HTC sent me a brand new one. I've yet to have a problem with my Note but can only hope Samsung will be as good as HTC with returns. But for every good case you hear of a bad one.
Regardless - I feel your pain. Good luck.
BTW I bought both my OneX and my Note via O2 (yes I have 2 running redundant contracts) but I didn't go through O2 with my problems. I'd rather slam me knob in a car door.

Cheers man. When you drop a phone, you'd expect the screen to spider. This is not the case. It's an immaculate hairline fracture. I'm debating whether to get them to send it back to me, so I can take pictures and document it further. During this, I can get it repaired third party and charge O2. I really don't know until I get a reply. All I can say is i'm fuming.
I would focus some attention to how apple deal with hairline cracks on their handsets and ipod touch's. They can tell what is caused from a manufacturing defect and what is accidental damage.
Also ask if O2's own repair facility checked the phone or Samsung themselves. If not the later get the phone back and send it Samsung.

It's O2's repair center that have my phone. I can't send it to Samsung, as they aren't binded by the regulations which I have described. O2 are in breach of 3 regulations, all in one day.
I have since resent another email showing the video that I posted in my edit. This video depicts the durability of the Galaxy Note 2. This alone is evidence that the device is not fit for the purpose of, which - Under the Sales of Good Act 1979 amended, I am entitled to repair / replace / refurbishment / refund FREE of charge as I, as a customer; Am not satisfied with the quality.
I must admit, as much as I hate Apple - Their procedure for repair and replacement is vastly superior than Samsung's.
I've since found out that this also falls under the EU Directive 1999/44/EC
(If a defect appears during the first six months following purchase the consumer will not have to prove the product was defective at the moment of delivery. The onus will be on the seller to prove the product was without defect. A consumer will have up to two months following the discovery of the fault to inform the seller. If a defect becomes apparent within the two, or one year, period depending on the type of goods, then the consumer has the right to choose a remedy using the following hierarchy. They can
· Demand repair or replacement within a reasonable time and without any significant inconvenience. (Free of charge repair refers to the necessary costs to bring the goods “back to conformity”)
· If this is impossible, unproportionate or cannot be done within a reasonable time or without significant inconvenience then the consumer can demand a price reduction or can rescind the contract (though not if the defect is minor)
All these rights are free of charge to the customer.)
Basically, as it's been 3 months - O2 HAVE to prove that I caused the damage, which will never happen - AS I DID NOT DO THE DAMAGE lol... I resent an email containing hundreds of links with similar devices (All Samsung ironically,) so shall see what happens. Looking optimistic now it's time for bed!
I'm not talking about the regulations though, Samsung will have the expertise to say if it's a manufacturing fault or consider it accidental damage. Why not give them a call and ask the question.
You can send the phone to an authorised Samsung repair center yourself. Get the phone back and get the details from Samsung of your nearest center.

I'm aware that I can go directly to Samsung, however if I do; I wouldn't have a leg to stand on. I would have to prove, that it is in fact a screen defect.
Samsung themselves have stated that LCD's are not covered by warranty, and will cost to have it repaired. The amount of threads I have read regarding Samsung products and Samsung not giving a damn astounds me.
Anyway, as I've stated, my issue at hand is with O2, who are the retailer. It is their job to ensure that all products which are sold via them, don't have any deficiencies. Now, we all know that retailers don't inspect their products - hence the reason why they usually repair / replace straight away.
The O2 repair center, as far as I believe - have contracts with manufacturers and follow their guidelines as to what can be repaired under warranty.
I'm being pedantic and doing this by the book. I will not let myself get bullied in to submission. The majority of customer's don't want the hassle, they're also unaware of their statutory rights.
I appreciate what you're suggesting, however in my case - going straight to Samsung is a bad move.
I've since emailed the CEO, CFO and COO of O2 UK. I figured why stop at the boss? I shall await further contact and shall keep this thread updated.

I too have been experiencing same issue as Op. no physical damage no abuse on my part (phone is literally 6 days old at this point). Taking it to my carrier seems hopeless so I called Samsung and they gave me waybill and incident report. Contmplating sending to them now or just fix on own, as I have seen Siii owners do with removing just the glass.
What you guys think?

Get in touch with your provider's CEO. Seriously, the higher you go; the better your experience shall be.
Sounds like a fault in the glass from the start, the pressure of touch on the screen over time has caused the minute fracture to enlarge.
You'd be hard pressed to cause it to do that from dropping it, dropping something on it, flexing it etc. - in those cases I would assume it to just spider.
Does the Otterbox have a rigid front cover? If so, any possibility it could have applied pressure unevenly?

My friend has emailed me pictures of when he dropped his Galaxy Note 2. There is spidering all over the screen as well as impact damage.
We know this to be true, I just hope the CEO's assistant can kick some ass.
The otterbox doesn't apply much pressure at all, there's no way that could cause the crack even if it had a vice grip. I'm just waiting patiently.

Haha, oh **** man. I really don't know what to suggest. I would still say getting in contact with the CEO as a customer would get you somewhere. Despite the fact that you're an employee of your service provider,
Hi ,
O2 quoted £110 for a repaire. Are you aware if that was the actual replacement of the front glass or just a fix? Due to me recently cracking the front glass on my note 2 I have to send it to samsung to have it repaired and fixed and cwnt find a clesr answer as to how nuch they will charge. Down to your issue its poor customer service on o2's part. From what you have said they will be forced to show you the information unless of course they have t&c's in their contract agreements. But to be fair I used to work for Orange and they would issue copies of the repair reports as far as I am aware.
I hope you get the resolution your looking for .

Hey man. I don't know at all, I've not been told anything regarding what needs replaced or repaired. I imagine that it'll be the whole Glass, LCD and Digitiser replacement as their "engineer's" are pretty incompetent. I've checked the T&C over and over again, there's nothing that says i'm not entitled to reports, even if there was - Under the Data Protection Act I'm entitled to it. It's been a whole f*ck up and I woke up today, with the feeling of, "F*ck it;" You know? I'm only still fighting as it's principle.

Do you have any pictures of the crack? I only ask as I have had a VERY similar thing happen to my Note 2 also from O2. My defect (because that's what it is, I haven't caused this, haven't dropped it etc) looks like a smudge in the bottom right hand corner of the screen and if you wipe with a cloth it seems to disappear. But if you wipe the screen with a wet finger you can clearly see what appears to be a single hairline crack from the edge of the screen across the corner of the phone to the home button. 1 hairline crack. Now you can't feel this crack with your fingernail and you cannot see it with the screen on. It's almost like there is a smudge under the screen but if you wipe it enough with a cloth it does disappear (it's very strange). Most people can't even notice it I have to point it out to them.
I did contemplate sending it back to buymobilephones.net under their 30 day warranty but I've heard horror stories of phones going missing, getting a refurbed one back that was worse than the one they sent or them saying I've done it and charging me for repair etc. I've decided to live with it and if it gets any worse I'll claim on my insurance. I'm just curious to see if it's a similar issue to what you have.
I'll try and take a picture but tbh I don't think you'd be able to see anything as it's hard enough when looking directly at it. But I know it's there, and that annoys me slightly.

Sorry mate I don't have a picture. I too couldn't feel it with my nails. I had an email arrive yesterday but was since "returned" with the message, "Sorry, I did not mean to send this email." I was left in state of confusion and contempt, to which I replied with a single word - "What?!"

Cracks on phone casing - real cause for concern

Both mine and my wife's G3 have developed cracks - both in Quickcircle back replacement cases and never droped or knocked in any way. My crack is accross the mic and my wife's are along the IR blaster and headphone port. Hers is white and mine is black. I will be returning hers tomorrow but am very wary of the response I will get. I suggest anyone look closely now for any signs of this if it is likely to be of concern.
I've heard about some having problems. I think LG knows and won't give you a hard time. I double checked mine and so far so good. Good luck man.

If that flag is accurate and you live in the UK you have nothing to worry about. Its a fault, pure and simple and you have EU consumer laws on your side.
The question is where did you get it? Some stores are more accommodating than others.
same here
The same happened to me today, I got a crack near microphone and I don't know what to do. I bought this from ebay one week old and as far as I know it's a unlock device with Three branding. I have this phone around one month now and the worst part is that my brother brought it to me from the uk when he came on vacations. I don't believe that if I try to contact LG from my country (Cyprus) I will have the phone replaced. The only thing I can do is send it back to my brother in UK but the phone was bought from ebay so I believe I will have problems requesting for a replacement. I am not sure what I have to do, any suggestions guys?

I got my wife's online from carphone warehouse, so hopefully it will be OK. I just hope they don't imply the phone has been mistreated. I am going to take print outs of the many websites discussing this issue to back me up. My phone was from o2, but as it isnt so bad I'm reluctant to return it due to how much I've customised it (rooted etc). At least they haven't bent I suppose!

Carphone warehouse are scum, but buying it online actually helps. Take a bit of evidence that its common and they really cant complain.
I have the same crack at the mic.

I've seen several G3s now with a crack on the ir blaster, I'm sure LG is well aware of this issues already and they should be able to issue a warranty as this IS a manufacturers defect.
No cracks, yet. Dropped it once, with a cheap case on it. No damage.

I am aware of this article, however there is nothing else to confirm that LG have officially acknowledged it and others claim they have been met with denial when speaking to them.
calling you out, bs, this kind of damage is due to lack of care!
"crackgate" what exactly does that refer to, too much crack and dropped your phone near the gate?

2 phones - one white, one black used by different people. We are pretty boring people that nurture our phones carefully (cases, screen protectors etc). Both phones developing cracks in similar places (along openings) without a single mark or scuff anywhere else. Many other reports as well, all in the same places on the phone. This isn't one of those "my screen has spontaneously shattered" posts, so you are out of line with your comments I'm afraid.
Based upon my own (extremely unscientific) following of this issue. Many of the pictures I've seen of phones with this issue seem to somehow involve the circle case. I do not have one, do not know what sort of pressure the circle case applies to the rest of the phone... However I am not planning on getting one of these cases based upon the number of pictures I've seen with cracks and the case is in the picture (or mentioned by the person posting).

This may possibly be the cause as both our phones are in these cases. The replacement back doesn't feel any more tight fitting than the original, however and it is the only way to keep wireless charging. In any case it is an official LG product so they still have to accept responsibility if they are continuing to market them.
Man that sucks. I bought a G3 for my wife and myself and we dont have cracks...yet. I hope it was only a specific batch of these for real and they werent just saying that for good PR. Ive had my phones about 3 weeks now and so far so good. We have cases on too...
Sometimes I feel like I can easily crack the case by opening it if I have to swap sim cards. Now once I get it open at the USB port, I slide a credit card along both sides and it easily undoes the clips.
Its because of this freaking crack issue that i am scared of using the beautiful circle case..
I believe the case exerts a lot of tension/pressure on the outer body of the phone..

There's always the one guy who says if I didn't happen to me it couldn't happen to anyone else. I hope you get it replaced as I think it was a defect even though mine is fine so far. Good luck to you and your wife bro.
