I'm not to sure I understand what your asking. You mean just right clicking on the desktop and clicking personalize?

Im facing a problem. I hv activated my windows 8.1 pro. Everything is working, except the personalization option.
I mean when i click on Charms bar --> Personalization ( https://www.dropbox.com/s/74a364j02dccvd2/Charms bar.jpg ) I should get https://www.dropbox.com/s/dnkva6tomxw28b1/Personalizize_from_Start.jpg
But instead i get https://www.dropbox.com/s/wvji8qqemtjdsv8/1376017_725988110751104_1854419153_n.jpg
How can i change it?

You need to open the start menu then the charms bar then personalization

[WARNING] To all CoPilot users

Dear CoPilot users,
Over the last month I have been having a bit of a battle with the makers of CoPilot 8, ALK, with regards to my license which I purchased in early 2010.
Like many of you here, I'm a bit of a compulsive phone updater, be it new windows builds, android or this new android NAND stuff.
Anyway, every time I flashed a ROM, I'd have to reactivate Co-Pilot over the internet. No problem. However, one day, it stopped working, saying that my code was invalid!! Much to my horror, I sent ALK an e-mail asking what had happened. Here was my response.
Discussion Thread
---------------------------------------------------------------
Response (Brandt) - 08/11/2010 11.45 AM
Dear Jon,
Thank you for contacting CoPilot Technical Support.
Unfortunately the reason why you are no longer able to continue activating CoPilot is our Activation server has seen that you have reached the maximum permitted activation limit for a product.
Unfortunately there is nothing further I can do to unlock your Product Key Code to allow for further activations as this falls under excessive uses of activation.
Click to collapse
Well, I didn't realise I could only activate so many times before the product was no longer mine. So I did some fishing through my T&C's for CoPilot 8 and there is no actual figure to indicate what "the maximum permitted activation limit for a product" is.
So I replied with an e-mail to that effect, saying that there is nothing in black and white for me to have known this. A month later they finally got back to me and said that I can now reactivate my code.
Now - I can understand what's happened. From their server's point of view, lots of people could be using my code on a large number of devices. So how do you get around this?
Well, every time you go to flash a new ROM, **MAKE SURE YOU DEACTIVATE YOUR LICENSE FIRST**!!
In settings (assuming you have show all settings selected), you will see a license button. Select your map in the list of things and press deactivate.
If you do this then you will be okay. But I suspect ALK will be updating their T&C to prevent this from occurring again.
Anyway, I hope that saves some of you from some potential trouble in the future.
why dont you backup & restore using titanium?
works for me
as far as im aware the activation code is linked to your phones IMEI, so it doesnt matter how many times you change your build, (with the same os) if restoring from backup
this is common practice with drm'd software.
the solution is just not to use it.
In The windows ver .. there is a file called : licp8.dat
That keeps your lic Info ...
Wonder if there is one for thr Android ???
then it will not matter
Just Found This ..
Requirements:
- A *LEGAL* copy of CoPilot 8 for Windows Mobile and the license key
- The latest version of CoPilot 8 for Android (works in Froyo now) Link to ALK Web Site
I bought it about 8 months ago for my HD2, for Windows Mobile 6.5. Great piece of software. I contacted ALK to ask if I could transfer between OS's and they said no, it wouldn't work! It also clearly states on their web site that transfers don't work:
Link
So being stubborn, I thought I'd take my own license from WinMo and deactivate it, stick it into Android and needless to say - it works and I have a fully legal copy of CoPilot 8 running on my Android Froyo device. Those cheeky beggers at ALK!!!
So how to get it working:
•Make sure you still have CoPilot installed under Windows Mobile and activated;
•Launch CoPilot. Go to the Menu|Settings|Licensing (NOTE: If you can't see this, find "More Settings" and select that first to show Licensing);
•Select your Map Region from the list (Mine was UK and Ireland), then press "Deactivate";
•CoPilot will now shut down;
•Boot into Android and using an installer, install the APK file which is in the requirements section at the top of the page or here;
•Open CoPilot from the Menu and it will ask for your license info. Enter this as you did when you first bought CoPilot (usually a username and password);
•Bada Bing. That should be it, all working!
Just to clarify one further time, this is only for legally purchased licenses. No questions about dodgy software please. Thank you.

[ PETITION ] Add an option to let us choose Metro Interface or not [ SIGN IT ]

Hi there people,
I've started a petition in Change.org hopping that Microsoft listen to it.
Let me be clear about it:
I am not asking to neutralize Metro, as I understand it is the only way to have a proper Windows, fully funtional, into a Touch device, such tablets or laptops.
I am only asking to let us decide if we want Metro activated or not in Desktop PCs. Today's world is made of decisions. Let us decide on our own what we want.
We will all have the same Kernel, same core and same quality and performance, and being able to choose interface, will add the best experience for each one of us: the one we trully want.
Please sign the petition, and make it reach Microsoft.
Thank u very much.
http://www.change.org/petitions/microsoft-company-allow-to-disable-or-decide-whether-we-want-metro-interface-or-not
PS: I couldn' find Microsoft e-mail from Redmond or similar, if anyone has it, please PM me, and I'll add it to the petition.
Thanks. I've tried the Consumer Preview and couldn't agree more. Signed.

Little by Little, lets change it and improve Windows! thanks!
If you can't accept Metro then stay with Windows 7, simple as that. Support for Win7 has been extended till 2020 so there is no need to move on to Windows 8 if you don't like its interface.
I am not against Metro, I like it, but against HOW they implemented it for desktop PCs. For tablets and netbooks or smaller notebooks with touchscreen it's actually realy great.
The point is the missing harmony between the old styled windows desktop you are using the most time if you are at home or at work and the new Metro UI, espacily the switching between the two modes and the implemantation of elemental functions like the system settings.
It's like an interuption if you "click" start. I am not against a new type of "start menu/screen" but it should fit the design and "feeling". It should support the (desktop)user in his work. In the current way this is not possible. The Metro surface allows to pin this realy nice live tiles (I realy like them!)... but if I push the start button I want to start a new application to do some work.
Ok, I can pin my favourite applications on the screen like I did with Windows 7 by pinning my mostly used programs to the start screen. But some applications I am using are changing by time so i enjoy the feature of the dynamical menu entries of frequently used programs like in vista and 7. If I want the same quick program launch on Metro I have to pin a lot of tiles to the screen and the live tiles become obsolete because they are somewhere right out of the screen.
They could have done it so much better...
the best way (in my oppinion) for desktops would have been to
a) chose between metro on - metro off
or
b)go much further:
1. consistent design (colors, icons, fonts,...)
2. pin live tiles on the desktop (like on metro start screen, maybe with a smaller size) or the taskbar (only with the notification, no messages, like it's done on MacOS or the IE9)
3. run Metro styled apps in a new kind of window including the buttons from the charmbar (share, search, settings). so all this "swiping" (with a mouse!) is not necesary but you get some kind of consistence between the usability of tablets, deskopts, and phone but keep the simple task management from windows.
4. a start menu mix between the old one and the search dialog from Metro.
Hm... just noticed my english sucks to express my rage about win 8 xD
Maybe I should run Photoshop and make some concepts how it should look

Is it so hard to add an option to get both interfaces ? Just to keep everybody happy and updated.
I don't think so.
I like the new kernel, about a 25% smaller, very fast and better working. I don't wanna miss that, but I am totally against buying a new Touch Monitor only for using Win 8.
That's too much for me. And if u take a look over some forums, we are many who think the same.
plus there are some nice new features in windows 8
Plus, I'd love to be able to sync between Win 8 without Metro on my desktop and Win 8 on my future tablet with Metro.
So yeah, staying on Windows 7 is a poor solution.
lol...trust me, this won't make any difference. Half of the internet doesn't like Metro (myself included).
Microsoft know this...they are aware of what people are saying, but they won't change it.

Well, I (and others) will vote with my wallet. Hopefully Microsoft will change it for win9. I don't see how win8 is better than win7. Anything new is metro related, which is useless for desktop.
P. S.
I switched to Kubuntu on one of my computers already. It has all I need.
I find Windows 8 is boooting up and running faster than Windows 7.
There is a lot more than just Metro that's changed. The kernel has been improved for one thing.
Yeah.. Voting with my wallet sounds about right. Not digging the demo builds right now.
Microsoft has this knack for screwing the pooch on revolutionary software. Lets face it, 2002 was basically updated NT4 and XP took that and stuff that ACTUALLY work from WinME.. Not there was. Vista was the first "new" Windows in a while. And Win7 is still version 6 [dot something]. Any OS that has been successful also had decent hardware to back it up.
That being said... This is a preview build. MS have heavily inferred they are giving someyhing that is nothing like the RTM. Well for PCs at least.

What I cannot understand is why Microsoft, in the past, launched about 10 or so versions of windows 7 ( Enterprise, Home Premium, Starter, Profesional, Ultimate, Enterprise N, Home Premium N, Profesional N, Ultimate N... etc ) and now, when they really need to add One more version with Normal Desktop added in kernel, they decide not to do it.
It's a pity, but there's going to be a lot of people staying in Win 7 or migrating to Linux or Mac.
You know Metro isnt your only option right, you can go to desktop mode as well?
I haven't tried the consumer preview, but I used the developer preview extensively, and I remember that there was a registry key you could modify and get the win7 interface back...

That's a white lie. When you pick desktop mode you dont get same desktop as always. You get a reduced version without stat button.
And in new desktop you get instead 4 motion-reactive corners that, for instance in some FPS games just sucks and bothers all the time.
Thats the desktop you get: a reduced, corner-active,weird version of what real desktop was.
Lie to yourself not to us.
i dont get it,
the desktop is still there , right? so why this petition.
dont like metro, dont use metro apps!

Start menu? No. Metro is not start menu. And the petition is to ADD a selection of kind of interface, not to erase Metro. Read it first, and then start spitting your thoughts.
I do not want to have a "bit hidden and replaced" start menu. I like it as it was before, because it defined Windows as Operative System. What we are having now is a weird mixture of Windows Phone and Xbox Dashboard, which is wonderfull for Tablets, but a complete sh*t for Desktops with keyboard and mouse.
If you like metro, allright, keep it, but why not having an option to get traditional start menu? Would it be so hard to get questioned at installation whether I want it or not?
I am asking to add something more to the OS, not to erase something from it.
And if my whining bothers you, feel free to get out of this thread and visit different ones. Thanks.
have you tried using the hot key short cuts? or navigating metro by typing the app name you are looking for? I take it both are likely no. I'm telling you Metro isn't just for touch screens, a power user can navigate it quickly with no trouble, and it's a lot easier than searching through an endless list of programs in the start menu. If you want 8 and the start menu just add http://www.vistastartmenu.com/ MS shouldn't stop trying to revolutionize the way we use computers over people who want to hold on to the old way. Touch screens are becoming increasingly more common, smart phones and tablets are changing the way people learn to interact with software, and Microsoft is headed in the direction it should be.

LOL of course you need to activate it. Windows is not free, you need to pay for it.
I'm not sure how you managed to install Windows 8 without a key, Windows 8 will NOT install if you don't enter a key during installation (unless you use a workaround), which suggests you may be using an illegal copy of Windows, though this is only one possible situations, so I'm not accusing you.
If you don't activate after 30 days:
1 - “Windows is not activated” error text is shown in Computer properties.
2 - Activation Key Watermark will appear on top of everything (all games, apps, videos) just like a screen sticker.
3 - Full screen notification Windows asking you to activate.
First of all windows 8 wnt have 30 days evaluation period.and
Second if u knw some bat coding u can use dism tool for serivicing windows 8 to force insert key during boot installation.

Nope, you can only use the key on one computer. You'll need to buy a new key. It's only $14.99 (until the end of January) so why even bother trying to pirate it?

I think people like this should do readings often. They're used with 'warez' and couldn't identify the paradox and others.
Even if god have the iso and installation key, it's still 1 key 1 consumer.

Keeps asking for Activation

I have a couple desktops in my house and both were installed with Retail Windows 8 with keys. They were activated without issue. Now, one of them is constantly asking for activation. Every time I activate it, it says it is activated and then the next time you sit at the PC, it asks again.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I would try a manual Product key install. I had the same issue when I went from my Windows 8 Preview to Windows 8 Pro..
I had to put in the key through command prompt..
Step 1:
Run Command Prompt as administrator
Step 2:
slmgr.vbs -ipk 00000-00000-00000-00000-00000
Step 3: go to settings, change pc settings, activate windows.
**optional** step 3: go to desktop, then control panel, then activate windows from control panel.

>These were installed with keys that I get from work (I work for Microsoft).
I hope you solve your issue. If you need to dig further, I'd suggest a Windows hacking site, eg (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/forums/42-Windows-8). There, you can find any amount of detail about MS' "new and improved" DRM, OA 3.0, that you care to. And if you don't want to take the trouble, there are ready-made solutions for the ADDs.
No disrespect, but it's with considerable irony that an MS employee has to seek help with his legitimately licensed Windows, while the warez peeps can skip all of the ballyhoo with a 5-min Goog search, and another minute to run their very own KMS activation server. No hacks, no cracks. The difference in convenience is so stark that even legit users may want to avail of the warez solution. It's akin to buying a BluRay and then grabbing a HD rip off the net than messing with the Digital Copy.
It's been said many times: DRM afflicts the legit users more than the pirates. Win8 is no exception. That MS is resorting to more and more draconian DRM speaks poorly of its understanding of tech. Perhaps Win8's current travails are a consequence of that myopia.
To elaborate on a previous reply, the basic troubleshooting steps are below. When prompted with the activation request, open an elevated command prompt and check on the status of your activation, with
slmgr -dli (display license info)
then uninstall your key, with
slmgr -upk (uninstall product key)
and try installing it again, with
slmgr -ipk <your_key> (install product key)
slmgr -ato (activate Windows)
Check again with
slmgr -dli
As you said, next step would be phone activation. 3rd step: restore from "Change PC settings". Last step: Clean reinstall. In order of work involved.
Thanks for all that and I agree, a shame that I can't get help internally.
I did find a similarity. My dad's computer started doing the same thing.
BOTH of these machines were Upgraded, not a clean install like mine (I tend to shy away from upgrading).
Still working on it.
Thanks again for the suggestions, I am going to poke around the dark side to see what they have come up with.

If you ever figure out why, let me know. I bought a new computer, windows already installed and I've been through the activate windows every day for the last four days.
Weird. Only activated my Win8 key one time here.

Program add on features will not stay unlocked in Windows 8.

Hey all, I have a Gateway laptop running Windows 8. I have an auto diagnostics program called Auto Enginuity that I have "add ons" purchased for, when I type to put in the feature unlock key, after a couple days it will no longer be activated. Then when I installed the 8.1 update it will no longer accept the activation key, I can type the key in and it does not hold it. On the same note, I'm running Microsoft Streets and Trips gps software and when I go to update it,it updates like normal but after the update it still says update needed, like it doesn't "hold" any updates or key codes that I install. Any and all advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks.. Phil
Hmm... could be a hardware problem, actually, with data not getting written properly. Do you have an SSD or an actual hard disk? If a magnetic disk, you might try running a good set of diagnostics on it. There are diagnostics for SSDs as well, though I'm not sure if the standard Windows disk check utilities are good for that purpose.
Alternatively, it could be software interference. Do you run any third-party security software (anti-virus or firewall)? Are there any error reports (in the Event Log, or possibly in the install or data folders of those programs)? Are you running the programs in Compatibility Mode?
Have you searched online for help with this issue, or contacted the vendors? XDA is a developer forum, not a support forum. You'd probably have better luck asking MS, for example, about the Streets and Trips issue. Alternatively, there may be support forums for those programs where other users have found, and fixed, the issue.
Also, Gateway is still around and making PCs?!? Whoa... it's like 1998 in here.
