Best Battery ROMs - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Just recently became a new owner of the Galaxy S4. I have been rooting and flashing for a few years now, and now that I am at the point of flashing my first ROM for my S4, I would like to choose one that offers some battery improvements over the stock ROM. Any suggestions?

I feel like this thread is going to get closed.... just saying. But it all depends on how the user uses the phone, mods or kernels used. But to answer your question, ive heard sacs rom is pretty good with battery and it also a customizable rom.

Yeah this thread needs to be closed.
Flash different roms and kernels and see which one gives you the best battery life. Done.

Are you serious? How is this a pointless thread?

Because getting out the most of a battery depends on the user usage. Also kernel, apps, mods, etc etc and also every phone is different so you wont get the same results.

Sorry, see all of the above to understand the reasons why "Best" rom threads get shut.
"Best" is in the eye of the beholder, and based on a variety of users needs or desires.

So why don't you do something about that ?
My best tip is to do some reading. These same questions are always going to get the same answers ...it's all up to the user and their needs.

This. I planned on getting the Nexus 7, so I decided to keep checking in at this forum to see recent developments and stuff. By the time I got the device, I was already aware of what defects to look for, what ROM's and kernels I would try first, etc...

Seriously, Custom roms are not worth of it.. or well not yet. I've tried over 6 differents rom and came back to Stock. Stock 4.1.1 has really great performance. The only useful thing I can think of is to flash a different kernel over the stock rom to overclock.

I disagree. Paranoid Android gives you control over your layout unlike stock.

I can read, but at the same time, I created this thread to get other peoples opinion in one place rather than going all over the place. and as for above, I was looking at PA too.
Can I use Gapps (7.27 i think) I am using for the S3 or does the Nexus 7 have it's own different Gapps?

There is no best ROM. Each ROM tends to offer something different and what you may see as useful or cool may not be anything special to somebody else. With that said, I am on the newest version of the PACman ROM and I think its the best rom available bar none. There are so many options such as PIE controls (which allows you to hide the NAV buttons allowing for more screen space) and not to mention the options of Paranoid Android, AOKP and Cynagenmod. Throw in the rock solid stability, (no force closes, battery drain or lag) and you have a real winner.
Anyway, like I said, that is my opinion but having used many ROMs I can tell you that most of them are amazing in there own right. There is no "best".

theres no best rom, theres only the rom thats best for you. spend some time trying out a few different roms, then pick one that suits your needs the best. after that, spend some time trying different kernels, then pick the one that you like. anyways, heres a great place to start, especially for a thread like this one http://goo.gl/YG5Gl
Well, this thread managed to become hostile and off-topic in a matter of minutes. Can't say that I'm not impressed though. Anyway, while you've probably figured out as much there is no best ROM because it's completely subjective and in addition being a Nexus the ROMs all seem fairly similar to me (it's odd to have come from an HD2). It's also not fair to devs to judge their work when they do it completely for free and opinions can easily differ. What I can say is that you'll struggle to find any ROM that's bad.
OP as stated, there is no best, it is what is best for the individual User, with so many variables involved...apps/usage and so on, the best thing to do is test and run the great ROMs out here.
And BTW thread cleaned of stupidity; Thank you and Thread Closed.

Best battery life rom for at&t s4??

So Ive been on the hunt for a rom for my At&T galaxy S4 that can give me the best battery life possible. I have tried both the 4.2 and 4.3 GPE rom's that were recently released and surprisingly they barely get half the battery life my stock touchwiz rom gets me. My phone running stock touchwiz lasts for the entire day, ending the day with around 25% battery left. but with the GPE edition roms I found myself having to recharge the device halfway or 3/4 through the day. For the 4.2 i was running KT kernal alongside it and for the 4.3 i was running the stock kernal that came with it. SO PLEASE HELP ME AND GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS TY!
have you tried audism v4? It's amazing. It makes my phone cold.

Would it be possible to link me to the thread where the audism v4 rom is posted? I tried looking but cant find....Im completely new to xda...
Kernel
The Ausdim v4 kernel can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2342298
As for a ROM, I have been using this Google Edition ROM with good success: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341376
The above ROM has an Ausdim kernel but I would recommend flashing an up to date Ausdim (v7) after flashing that ROM.
I swore by shostock. Never better
Keep on trying various ROMs yourself. There is no simple answer when it comes to battery life as it is very subjective and changes drastically based on your personal usage, conditions such as WiFi vs mobile data, the apps you are running, etc. You really have to keep trying yourself. I know you may think "Well who has time to try all these ROMs?" and you are right, but variety is a good thing and you'll enjoy testing all the features. Good luck

Shostock , definitely shostock . I've tried almost every rom and this one has the best battery life of them all. Lasts me a day and a half with moderate usage

Again, this needs to be done. It is a user profile option USE IT.
Just my opnion but kernels have a great deal to do with battery life... modems too.
So basically what I got from your answers is.........If I want better battery life....It depends more heavily on the kernal rather than the roms. So I can use whatever rom and I should try various kernals. Since I'm using a AT&T galaxy s4, I should be flashing the loki doki after everything I flash?

Correct, or you can use a loki kernel made for our att US i337.
Both are ok. And yes, the kernels have a lot to do with battery life, so you would need to experiment with them.

S4 Roms on cm10.1 or 10.2

Hello guys. I recently bought this phone after 1.5 years on my old lg optimus 2x. Although the stock touch wiz UI is fairly speedy, I cant helo but think it would run much faster on a stripped down rom like cm10 for example. Which roms would you suggest if I'm looking to retain the sort of cool camera features on stock sg4 but without the lag of touch wiz ui? Excellent battery life is also a big plus Thank you.

You will not get the cool camera without TW. You can use a different launcher though.

Unfortunately no, as the camera requires the TouchWiz framework yo be installed.
You can however use a custom TouchWiz ROM, such as GoldenEye. Performance is better than stock, and it's based off the latest international firmware, so you'll be running a newer firmware that what is offered on AT&T.
If you don't mind losing the TouchWiz camera, then try out the official CM10.2 nightly from get.cm. It offers a ton more performance, has great battery life (I'd say comparable if not just shy of stock), but doesn't offer the same camera frills—oh, and of course, it doesn't look like it could win an award for being so ugly.
Personally, I would try CM. If you can't handle the camera (which is about the only downside, as I didn't end up using any of the gimmicky TouchWiz features after awhile) then it'll be so much better in every single way. If you feel you need the camera, try out GoldenEye.
Good luck! And happy flashing!

There is no BEST ROM as it depends on your preference/usage/signal/phone. So you get an idea of a few and try them out for a day or two each.
Just another tip from someone who has screwed up this in the past. If you install a touchwiz-based rom remember to also flash Loki-Doki!

Suggestions for a ROM? Android 4.4.2

I was on SACS ROM but it wasn't compatible much with ktoonsez kernel.
I went to cyanogenmod and I'm getting 4 hours screen time with ktoonsez, however I like the features of touchwiz and I liked the ui a bit more (when using s5 themed ROMs, I despise old touchwiz),
So I'm looking for a smooth touchwiz ROM android 4.4.2 that is compatible with ktoonsez kernel
I'm currently on NAE modem

Recommendation threads always get shut down because people begin to say "so and so" ROM is the smoothest or the best. When the fact is there is no best ROM. Try out the other TW Roms that catch your attention and if you don't like it you can restore an older ROM you liked.

Ugh I hope it doesn't, I know there isn't a best ROM, just the fact is that I only found negalite, pacman, sac, and cyanogenmod, and I don't like all of them but I did like sacs, it just had a lot of bugs

XDA is a development site not a support site. As such members are expected to do the research, read through the development threads and decide what is BEST for them. The only results that would be posted here are what each member has found to be BEST for them by experimentation based on their phone/usage/setup/apps/signal strength. Please take the time to read through those development threads to learn all about the software you are about to drastically alter your very expensive device with.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
