Okay so I ordered a back aluminium case on eBay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220167294721
This case has exceeded my expectations. Only though....the LCD portion of the case is protected by a plastic cover where as.... I was expecting just a knockout like all the other parts of the aluminium. I still don't know, if this is a plus or not, because while it does protect the screen, I was hoping to at least use the touch screen while its in the case, but at least I know its fully protected. Another feature which made me just love this case even more was the fact that the belt clip could be screwed with the phone being inside, many other cases either have a fixed belt clip (clumbersom) or if you want to use the belt clip you have to screw on a disc, and prep it. With this case you can screw the disc in 2 seconds and do not need a screwdriver or any other tools, it's truly quick fit, screw on, screw off.
One note: the finish I ordered is BLACK which can be seen from the pictures, it also comes in Silver, now it has some sort or tactile finish to it, kind of that powder coated, scratch resistant feel. I don't think the Silver version will be like this, I am sure you will see the natural brushed grains of Aluminium. I still don't know if I should have hosen the Silver. I hate scratches and i figured Black doesnt show scratches and I like Black, although I do love Natural Aluminium too, but I was afraid of scratches and if it appeared cheep, luckily though I am giving one of these cases as a gift so I am going to order the Silver one and choose which one I like better and give the least as the gift.
In any case the powder scratch resistant coating on the Black version is awesome and If after a week I feel the plastic cover that protects the LCD prooves to be of a bother I think I will have to knock it out.
In the pictures you will NOT notice that there is a Plastic cover... I know I have said this numerous times, you may thank me alter on for warning you.
Another thing that impressed me was the box the case arrived in, and the cotton wrap the case was wrapped in... exactly how my Louis Vuitton wallet shipped, very impressed, they really paid attension to the details down to the box.

I have to ask you about your 2nd pic showing the back side though ... what is that blueish frame around the camera area ???
It also looks to me that your device's back side is not of black colour to begin with ?? mine is a TyTN II & I don't have that ... it is totally black ...
Probably it's because your device is another variation of the Kaiser ??
BTW ... I also got the same black case arrived yesterday too

That blue part on the camera is just a protective film that is sometimes put on the silver panels to protect them from scratching. It is kind of like a sticker (but not quite so sticky), and it can be easily removed.
How heavy is it compared to the original one?
Regards,
Carty..
looks pretty good.. but does it make the power button harder to push than it already is?

well that answer one thing ... but...
if you look at the back of that device ... it's silver or lighter colours exposed where the opening of the back are ( 4 shorts & 1 long lines ) ...etc
that made me thought of other variations of the device. Since I owned a black TyTN II, that's all I know to go by ... is it's completely black at the back ... not like the pic.

lol
upon closer look of the 4th pic ( D-Pad & buttons )... I now realized that it's NOT a TyTN II after all
That is odd, its not blu its the same color as everyone elses, I have the T-Mobile version which is not black, its gunmetal but the camera plate, is the same color as your, somehow the flash caused a blue tint.

Not really, but I prefer the Hermes (TYTYN) switches to the Kaiser anyday, I also miss the loss of that extra button next to the Power button.

that is so funny man, I always used to miss it too feeling around, especially when it was in my car holder, I am so used to the Hermes (TYTN) that I am feeling around for a second before I find it.
BTW did anyone else have the problem of the sliding? If you owned a TYTN then you will knwo what I am talking about, the slide is in the opposite direction, it takes tiem to get used to.
hey does the front plastic shield bother you? Do you fidn youself forgeting tis there atempting to touch the screen lol

Last night, after I flashed the newest Mary ROM, it turned off suddenly and would not turn back on. I heard something rattling around in there so I took off the battery cover and removed the battery. Didn't see anything, so I took out the stylus to see if it was making the noise. When I shook the phone (gently), a very very very tiny screw flew out of the phone.
The phone now will randomly turn itself off.
I have no idea where this screw goes. I think I have to take the phone apart to look.
Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone know how the screw could've come loose?
when i took my niki apart to line up the case better (HTC Build is [email protected]!) two screws that hold the slider on were loose!!! in fact weren't even tightened up, which is odd, as all the others had some kinda blue glue holding them in. :/
so yes, mine were loose

the one that fell out of my niki is 1/2 or 1/3 the size of that one. sooo small!
did you work it out? i took apart my nike to rebuid it a bit better, the back was creaking after last time i took it apart..
the screw could have come from a bunch of places, i noticed a small screw holding the mainboard in and one holding the small pcb at the top with the speaker etc.. its probably one of them. i'd screw it back in asap though.
good luck.

No. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to go buy a kit that I can use with those itty bitty screws. I hope to do it soon. Will report back to let you know where that little bugger came from.
Hey there...no available guide yet..?
what size tools are you guys using?
I sent my husband to the store to get tools so I can put this cursed screw back in my phone but the kit he got was too big! What kind of tools are you guys using to take your phones apart?? Where might I get some??
im not sure where you can get them - most likely any hardware store, online, ebay. there are 2 types of screws in the nike.. you'll need a torx screwdriver (a t6 should do it) to get it open, and a real small philips (not sure about size.. just real small lol) for a couple of screws inside..

I'm pretty sure the one we tried was a t6. I'll have to verify.

I know this is slighty offtopic and i apologise. However, after you tightened your case up did it eliminate all the 'wobble' when the device was closed?
I'm going to call up T-Mobile today and ask for a new G1.
The lower right corner of the screen is VERY squeaky. It's really loud, and you can feel it squeak when you press around the bottom right 30% of the screen.
The problem is the bottom right corner is being sucked up against the "chin" of the phone. Pulling it away just a milimeter gets rid of the squeak. There is, however, no easy fix unless I want to take sandpaper and start sanding away around the joints.
I'm currious how many other people are having this problem. I've read of a couple of people having it, but I thought I poll would be a decent way to see if it's wide-spread or just a select few devices.
diy-creak-fix
I returned my first one with no problems at all. but if you can't theres a fix here
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f10/diy-creak-fix-4596/
I got my g1 yesterday... I f'n love it! But the screen does squeak a lil when pressed on and also my screen is not really aligned right when I open the phone to use the keyboard but its really not that noticeable...
Forgive me for being skeptical, but I wonder if you guys are pressing too hard on your screen? Mine only squeaks if I really push on it.
I've found I barely need to touch the screen to get it to respond. If you had the Wing or other WinMo phone, you're probably used to pressing much harder. You shouldn't have to with this phone, it's built to respond to the slightest touch.
Or at least that's my experience. If it's bothering you, by all means get a new phone. Perhaps it's a dual problem, perhaps the screen isn't as responsive, and thus you're forced to press harder and that makes it squeak. Best of luck, guys.
The creaking problem appears to be isolated to the black g1s due to a small plastic lip on the chin where the screen meets the chin. I haven't seen the black in person but pictures show that it is more of a matte finish as opposed to a glossy finish for the bronze. I have the bronze g1 and the chin has this extra piece of plastic but due to it having a glossy finish, it doesn't creak..it slides smootly when pressing the screen corner.
The fix above works!
I was sceptical, but I took an exacto and shave just a little off. I thought it wouldn't hurt. Well it worked perfect and not a squeek to be found even when pressing or sliding. Can't beleive that little flash of modeling makes so much noise. Thanks for the fix.
By the way I had a black G1
Jcostanza4
No, and I'm rockin the bronze; but on an unrelated/semirelated note
The plastic on this screen is like a magnet for finger juices.
Not slick like glass, it has a plasticy feel that makes me miss the original screenplastic that covered it.
and if you have the ToddlerLock and hand it to a kid - what the eff - Grease City, USA.
I have to clean this more often than on my wing, and it's not the simple huhhhuhh/wipe - it's a cloth or shirt with windex or spit.
(yeah I lick my screen and wipe with tshirt to clean it. Hope it doesn't void the warranty)

This was an ingenious fix! Worked for me! The screen still moves but no sqeaks!!
I've heard reports of this but mine is dead silent when I push on it. In fact it doesn't even have any give, it's just solid against the phone. I must have just gotten lucky. Mine's black by the way.
Sometimes I hear it, sometimes I don't. Unlike everyone else, I don't see this as a big deal.
if you dont consider it a big deal, then you havent heard one really squeak yet. I have had people ask me what that f-ing noise is when I am talking on the phone. Just rubbing against my face it squeaks...LOUD. My friends black makes no noise, mine is a nightmare
squeeky here
I have had 2 g1 phones, both squeeked
I tried the razor blade trick and it seemed to help a little.
Two G1s and put a file to it - and no more squeek. Finally lol. That was annoying. And the girlfriend has a white one - no squeek. That part isnt there.

worked perfectly
i had called tmobile to ask them to replace it but they said they cant do anything about it
so i took matters into my own hands
did it in less than 30 seconds and pressed as hard as i could and didnt heard a squeek at all
I have a white g1 and the creaking sounds are pushing me that much i feel like selling up th problem is i got my phone new from ebay so i dont think i can send it back also when the phone is open the screen is not alingend this is horrible and i cant help but notice it is there any fix for that problem?
no squeaky for me!
White G1 here.
My G1 is super sqeeky. I have had it replaced 3 times for various screen problems.... every one I have had seems to squeek. Just tried the razor trick... Didn't seem to help. Oh well.... doesn't bother me That much. Embrace your sqeeks.
Man... the squeek didn't even bother me till I actually read this thread and paid attention to it
yes same here!
probably it is a HTC production problem
As many of you guys have noticed with your G1s, there are some issues with the screen! From it wobbling to creaking and god knows what else will come up. I got my G1 exactly 1 week ago, and I have noticed that the screen is wobbly when the phone is closed. It might just be me, but I keep noticing it and think its annoying. So I decided to make a quick easy fix for it. All you need is some clear plastic sheet maybe half a millimeter thick, Elmer's glue and scissors.
Cut the sheet maybe 1 to 2 millimeters wide and a centimeter or so long and place it in the bottom corner of the phone's chin, next to the small bump from the memory card slot. I dont have pictures right now, but the idea is pretty basic and you should be able to figure it out on your own.
After, the phone feels a lot more solid and the wobbling is gone!
I was actually just thinking of doing something similar the other day. Although, laziness got the best of me :-T
Haha nicee, well when you do get to it you should get quite a noticeable difference, and it really doesn't take that long to do, maybe 5 minutes or so at the most. Currently I am looking into actually custom designed cases for the phone with designs on it. I really like the design on the back of the battery cover of the Developer edition phone and am looking into making something like that.
I have resolved this problem with a silicon case from ebay. It comes with 2 parts, one on the main body and one on the screen body. Now when the phone slides, the silicone parts are touching each other so there is no wobbling.

i had extra strips of universal screen protectors and used those. not only did it help with the squeaks. but it lined the screen up again. it always bothered me how it felt uneven while it was closed.
as for custom cases, count me in. i go through cases a little too quickly.

Haha sounds good! Do you have any idea on a good tool to use to actually make the design? I would say sharpie, but it really isn't as permanent as I would want it, it will fade away too quickly.
haha sharpie. that's the reason i go through cases like there's no tomorrow. slow days at work drive creativity lol. i even went to a friend's shop that prints and cuts vinyl graphics for cars and had them cut the same dimentions of the shield skins
I tried this, and didnt like the way my phone felt when I opened/closed it. It was too stiff, and hung.

And does anyone know where I can buy Developer edition battery covers?
Yesterday I accidentally dropped and scratched my GS III and it's pretty bad. The battery door and the band around the side are pretty scratched up. I'm looking to purchase a new pebble blue battery door and the blue band that comes with it. Have you guys seen the band floating around ebay or somewhere else?
I'm totally pissed at myself as I only had the phone for a few days. I normally never drop phones either. Thanks for any help guys.

I see a marble white back but don't see pebble blue right now. They might eventually have it though. You might try emailing to see if they will soon have any.

No i have not found one that showed how to actually PULL the screen off. i have just done some reading and even he will say towards the end of the video about the heating of the screen.....and he also said that he may make one showing the method to getting it off and back on.
so thats the best i have found for right now.
my biggest concern is not getting the screen off the bumper but sticking back on the new one. i would know what to stick it with(superglue...lol) if i knew that part of it...i would do it no problem.
