unable to anto lock screen - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi I m a new S4 user and I encounter a problem.my screen timeout and my touch key light never go off base on the setting I made. This problem will only happen when I power up the phone follow by keying the code to turn off the Wi-Fi power save mode. I check on all my screen timeout and touch key light setting all is unchanged but this setting just don't take place,I need to press the "power" button to off the screen and touch key light.is there any hidden features that can solve this problem? Another question is can the Wi-Fi power save mode able to off permanently and no need to always go in to disable it everytime the phone is power up? Thanks hope you people can help me out.

simple display on/off question

Hi!
- Does the Universal turn on automatically when the display flip is opened or does the user have to press the Power button first?
- What exactly does the Backlight button do?
I need to know this because I'm investigating a possible wiring damage ...
Thanks!

Depends...
The Universal knows two different states. When you close the display while the device is on, and then open the diplay again the screen will come on.
If however you first press the power button to send the device into standby, and then close and open the display, the screen will not come on, the device will remain in standby.
The backlight button is useless, use the hack to re-assign it to a function of your choice.
Thanks!
That helped a lot!! 8)

screen doesn't turn on by screen tap?

Hi All,
My Wizard is set to turn the screen off after a minute of inactivity.
To get it back on, I have to press the power button.
I've checked in backlight and power settings and have it set to allow a screen tap to turn the backlight on, but it's not working - well, if the backlight's off but the screen's on it works ok, but I want a tap to turn the screen and the backlight on together. At the moment I have to press the power button, which upsets Pocket Player MP3 playback...or I can press a hardware button, but again, this tends to interrupt playback of music as all the buttons are mapped to something.
Seems a simple request, am I missing anything? This is under the Mr Clean ROM, if it makes a difference.

Once the screen goes off, the phone is "sleeping". The only way I know of to turn it on at this point is to tap the power button. To do what you want would be turn turn off the screen going into sleep mode, but that will come at the expense of your battery life. Start>Settings>Power>Advanced then uncheck the Turn off device under On Battery Power.
device lock(s)
A halfway solution, you could turn the screen off using the device lock app, which includes screen off. Then when you press the power button it only effects the screen and not anything which is running. The second one is very good for listening to music with, assuming you volume control button isn't broken like mine

on/off button defect - am i able to reactivate the phone without that button?

hello...
my on/off button is defect. so i cant switch it on. Only via reset
can i configure another button for reactivation from standby? because that does not work anymore too
thanks for help
not sure about hermes but my phone turn on at the press of any key unless i set it only to turn on by on button in buttons in settings
Go to the settings, then to system, then go to the keylock options in there and set it to not lock at any time.
Works with any key, but its not really a good idea to have that in your pocket.
I would say you should get the button repaired instead.
Thanks a lot guys...
does someone knows how i can switch off the phone? everytime i want to swithc it off i have to push the reset button or do a soft reset :/ i thin k a regular shutdown would be better...
i friggin have the same problem. My girl dropped my phone and the power button is messed up...
I press the camera button to turn on tho.. i cant turn off unless i let it sit and it does it itself.

Power off and Device Lock Reg Edits?

Hello all,
I am new to the forums but I have been using the HTC Touch for a few months now, and would like some guidance about a few problems i'm having. First off, I am using the official 6.1 rom with sprint....
I am running S2U2 and am having a problem with my phone turning off while in my pocket. It seems the power off menu can be brought up if you hold the power button, even if S2U2 is running. This is very frustrating, is there anyway to lock the power button when S2U2 is running, or any other option?
Is there any edits that can be done to make S2U2 call the factory device lock? I couldnt find anything related to the lock in the registry. If there is, is there anyway to assign the factory device lock to the power button, so that when you blank the screen it auto-locks? I love this feature with s2u2, and with stock device lock it takes 3 buttons to do this...
Thanks!

The only thing that I could suggest that might help is to get yourself a good case for your phone that would protect the button from being accidentally pushed. I have never had this problem with my phone. The button actually has to be pressed and held to bring up the power off menu. Even when not in it's case, I have never had this happen; however, the phone is only out of it's case, when I am using it. In the case, there is even less chance of powering off the device.
Rod.
The default device lock works just like S2U2, as it leaves only the power button unlocked. If you locked all buttons, how would you turn your phone back on??

The problem i'm having is that the phone actually powers off while in my pocket somehow....what i'm saying is that the phone not only "wakes up" from the standby mode, but also calls the shut down window and you can press the "yes its ok to shut down" button while s2u2 is running, something the stock device lock will not do.
It would be really nice if there was a slide type lock that was based off the code of the stock device lock.
Thanks for the replys
Find what the application is that launches when pressing the button and add it to the S2U exclusions list.
I have a verizon and my power button toggles screen off and on, so im not entirely sure, Is this a stock popup or a program you installed ? There is probably a registry entry somewhere that defines how the power button functions jsut as the button manager does for other buttons.

I understand your point, and am still wondering what it is you keep in your pocket with your phone that shuts it off!? Anyways, why do you keep referring back to the default device lock? S2U2 performs the same way, as it locks everything besides the power button. If the power button is locked, how would you wake up the device to unlock it ???
the power button has two functions, it blanks the screen if you press it, or it brings up the power off menu when you long press it. The problem i'm having is s2u2 doesnt prevent the power off menu from coming up, where as the stock device lock does. Thus, it is possible to completely power off the phone while the keys are locked.... of course I want to be able to wake the phone up with the power button, but i dont want to be able to turn it completely off.
And i'm not sure how it turns off in my pocket, except i usually carry it with the power button face down (phone upside down) and it must press against the bottom of my pocket...
The application that it is calling is the stock shut down menu, i'm not sure how I could add this to the exception list, as I dont know how to call it remotely....
Thanks again for the replies!
The title of this caught my attention.
It would be very nice to have a registry edit that will lock the device when powered off or on device wake up.
I use S2U2 and I am really not liking it personally, but it is better then the default setup currently I feel.

[Q] How to disable Home button with Lollipop

Hi,
I'm looking for a solution to stop the phone from turning on the screen when the home button is pressed?
Many time I take it in my pocket I'm hitting that button and the screen is turning on.
I'd prefer that it only turn on when I click the power button.
I think I have to go in : "/system/usr/keylayout", but after I don't know what to do.
Any help or suggestions?
