[Q] Trasnfer app data - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys I am after some help my note 3 is arriving today and want to know if there is an easy to transfer my progress within apps on to the new phone from an s4 without root also to be able copy home screens as well.
Any help really appreciated

can't think of a easy way, I am on manual reinstallation of apps from web playstore on my PC (good time to review unused apps anyway), and without root there isn't much option on backup and restore i think..
for home screen try to use the backup function of your selected launcher (which not all have it)

You can use Helium Backup that doesnt needs root.

Titainiam backup

Im using Titainiam backup (free version), is there anyway to back up all apps/SMS/contacts/other data with just 1 click? From what I can find you have to select each 1 seperatly?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD, Powered by Android Revolution.
About...3 clicks. Menu -> Batch and from there select the one that fits your needs the best.
Quick question re Titanium Backup.... It says it needs "ROOT", does this mean it will not work with a non-rooted system??
I'm using the standard Orange, non-messed with Android (which I'm quite happy with), can I still use Titanium Backup?

Ok, so could anyone recommend a backup for apps/data (with the hopefully upcoming Gingerbread update in mind), that doesn't need root?

You can try Mybackup Pro
The problem with non-root backups is they can't backup everything.
If you don't want to root, then you will probably not be able to backup your apps+data.
Hello, sprite backup ( latest version compatible with Gingerbreak ) save and restore contacts, calendar ... even if you have an unrooted phone ( mine is unrooted and i've restored contacts successfully ) .

Do you what they won't backup?
TBH, Data I'm not so worried about (everything is backed up to the google account online anyway), it's the apps that I've downloaded and paid for that I don't want to lose.
GoSMS Pro will do this for you. I mnow it is a whole seperate SMS app, but it is a guaranteed way for it to work, and doesn't take long. And you might find you like it for SMS anyway

You [will] would not lose anything, they are always available for re-download on the Market or the AppBrain Android Market, unless you use their remove option to remove them from either of your lists of Apps.

What is stuck in root?
When ever a App tries to gain Root Access for the first time Superuser will appear on your screen and Ask if you what to give the App Root Permission or not, and whether to remember the permissions that are given [the default is remember].

True.
ok, cheers.
Mind you - it's all academic anyway because I have no idea when (or even if) I'll be getting the update. Still seem to be stuck on 1.84.61.2 (as far as I can see). Orange aren't known for their speed on software upgrades.

You sure about that? I am sure google only keeps a copy (id) of what you have downloaded, but not the data within the app. So for example you bought a game, google will know you have bought the game so you can download it, but the data on the game will be lost, i.e. high scores etc...
And also, what about data from apps that you have not use a store, i.e. you used an installer to install it, the data will be lost for that app.
MyBackup Pro is good, but it can't backup the data within the apps (unroot) and that is the problem because of google security.
yes i know that but the superuser app dont appear for me i dont know why?and its just for this app.all other apps appear for me and there is no problem.when i start the app its i get trying to gain root access and the superuser app dont appear???
so this is a no go then

Yes I am sure of what I wrote, I did not say anything about data being stored.
I do not know about what MyBackUp can and can not do.
Titanium BackUp can back up all Apps and Data. [data can not be restore to a different Rom though]

Do you a CWM installed, if so you could try booting in to recovery, and use the fix permissions to see if it helps to clear the problem with SU.

[Q] Root DHD for Jelly bean with full back up?

First off I need to say thank to all of you for this amazing forum. I did do some research before posting this but it's so much info overload that I decided that I need some help. As you all know DHD doesn't get any upgrade above 2.3.5 and personally I am disappointed that I want to root it.
My problem is I have in it many applications for my job, like stock portfolios and so on and I need to know if I can root the phone but keep the apps and their settings saved. (Ok, ok I admit I don't wanna lose progress on some games also... shoot me ).
So if I root what can I save? What can't I save? And if possible some guides on upgrading it in Jelly bean version. Also will I be able to download from the google store? or like in Jailbreaked iphones I need to download from somewhere else? I don't want someone to compose a guide but if possible step by step links to visit so I can do it myself. Of course as the forum states no responsibility to any of you if something goes wrong.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, its really simple to find information about rooting the DHD. Try this to root your phone http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-hd/. A complete backup without root is not possible. But you can backup your personal user data with various backup tools which you can find in the play store.

If you need to downgrade before root (Some firmwares do), you will loose everything. But after root, your contacts and apps should load again from Google Play (if you checked "backup my phone" in settings). After root, you can use Titanium Backup to backup all your apps with data, so when you change ROMs, you don't have to reinstall everything from Google Play and you won't lose settings/progress. But I think that Titanium wouldn't work on unrooted phones... so most probably you must loose settings/progress once, in order to root.
You might be able to backup your SMSes with SMS Backup and Restore (available on Play)
When you root you download everything from Google Play, just as always. This is NOT similar to "jailbraking", Android is not closed as iOS. Rooting means you have access to SYSTEM files.

Use mybackup from Play Store and you can backup all your information without root. With root you are able to backup all the rom to a certain point in time.

Great advice! Btw from what I read it backs up everything except app data. I wonder if there is a folder I can copy paste when I see my device as a hard drive that has the app data inside.
Also with the MyBackup I can restore everything after I root my phone? In the rooted version I mean?

The reason I asked about app data is because I was under the impression that rooting gives you access to the partitions where that app data is stored; without root, you can't access where the app data is stored (and so the copy-paste plan is probably impossible). App data is where app settings are saved; without it, MyBackup restores apps as if they were freshly installed from the Play Store, without any other settings saved.
Apps like MyBackup and Titanium Backup and App Manager generally back things up to your sdcard, which isn't affected by any of AAHK's functions.
Like someone above said, if you need to downgrade back to Froyo, I'm not aware of a method by which you can save all your apps and their data.
By the way, I believe an app called Go Backup (not Go Backup Pro) also lets you back up apps (and only apps, not data) without root.
You can backup programs with My Phone Explorer, but programs are not an issue - they will be downloaded automatically from Play Store...

For some reason, Google's app sync doesn't work sometimes for me on certain ROMs. I'm not sure why; I never looked into it, since I usually back my apps up with App Manager anyway.

True, but you can always go to Play on a computer and your purchased apps and "send" them to phone... yes, a bit of work, but better than nothing, at least there's a list of apps and it's easier to install them from computer than from a phone

Kinda discouraged to do the root if I can't save the app data :/ I will look at what I will lose and how easy I can regain them and decide. In the meantime does anyone know why my address book doesn't sync with google? (even though the sync is on)
Try to put as much files as you can in the cloud. Make screenshots of other information that you want to keep. Make a back up of your SD-card.

You shouldn´t use a mirror for the Hack Kit. You don't own it and therefore won't support it. Besides the Kit has been updated lately so, please remove the link and direct people to attn1's site.

Consider purchasing Titanium Backup (or trying out out the trial version). It just started letting you backup app data WITHOUT root using ADB. See: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...-adb-backups-without-root-other-improvements/. It will also very much come in handy once you are rooted.

I use this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&feature
It backs up apps / contact / sms / calendars
pretty much everything and every has an option to send backups to your gmail.
if you want a back up for your rom, theres a way to catch the rom for your carrier from kies described here.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573
Its particularly useful if your carrier's stock rom is not found in sammobile yet.
Thanks. I mainly just want to back up my icon locations and settings etc in case i need to wipe the phone I don't have to try and remember what settings I had or where are my icons were etc.
Another +1 for Helium. Super simple and it works. I used it to backup some apps on my old phone before moving to the S4. Once I got the S4 I was able to restore them with no problem.

[Q] Option to backup and restore unrooted Note 3

Hi,
Can anyone suggest a simple way to backup and restore while resetting the device?
I had to wipe the date on the phone and reset it, but lost several stuff including Nova settings, installed apps via apks from unknown sources, etc.
Any good app which simplifies the backup and restore option? Tried Mybackup pro and Helium before, but not good.
I do not want to root the phone to use Titanium backup though.
Have you tried backing up the device with the back up feature available in the settings?

I did, although the backup was a month ago. When I reset, i could not backup as I lost my AVG password so had to reset using the buttons. Restored it using the backup feature but like I said above most of the features were gone! For example, my nova settings, etc

I have tried many apps but they are not stable enough, try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jiubang.go.backup.ex
The problem for most apps is they need root access to put back settings and so forth... Unfortunately there is a limit to what most apps can do to an unrooted phone...

Restoring APP data

Hi,
My old phone was an Galaxy S (i9000) and now I have bougth the Galaxy S 5.
The i 9000 was rooted and I have backedup all Apps + Data to the SD card.
The S5 is new and I dont want to losst the warranty if I Root the phone, so I was wondering if it is possible to Restore all Apps data from the old phone to the new one without root.
Is it possible to do it without a PC?
Thanks,
Titanium Backup should be able to do it, not sure if it needs root though
But also not sure it's a good idea to restore data from a different model phone, which is likely running a different version of Android
You could turn on Google Backup on the old phone, and log into the same G Account on the new S5, and it might restore some things for you that way

Copy the titanium backup folder from your old phone to your new phone. Install TiBu and restore apps&data.
I'd do this by:
1 connect old phone to PC via USB
2 copy Titanium Backup folder from old phone to PC
3 connect new phone to PC and copy Titanium Backup folder to same place on the new phone
4 install Titanium Backup on the new phone
5 restore apps&data
OR
1 in TiBu backup apks and data to SD card
2 put SD card in new phone
3 fire up TiBu and restore backup

If you live in EU you can root and keep your warranty.
Also you can root and keep Knox untouched http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-root-triggering-knox-2nd-method-t2843044
Or you can try Helium, it's like TiBu but doesn't need root. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup
