I use this : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idea.backup.smscontacts&feature
It backs up apps / contact / sms / calendars
pretty much everything and every has an option to send backups to your gmail.

if you want a back up for your rom, theres a way to catch the rom for your carrier from kies described here.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261573
Its particularly useful if your carrier's stock rom is not found in sammobile yet.

Thanks. I mainly just want to back up my icon locations and settings etc in case i need to wipe the phone I don't have to try and remember what settings I had or where are my icons were etc.

Another +1 for Helium. Super simple and it works. I used it to backup some apps on my old phone before moving to the S4. Once I got the S4 I was able to restore them with no problem.

Backing up and restoring the stock e-mail app

Hi all. I was wondering if there is a way to backup the STOCK e-mail app (emails, accounts, settings) and WITHOUT ROOT. I have done many searches on Google, but most of the threads are quite old.
Pardon my newbness pls but wont titanium backup work? I mean I think it only needs root when you need to uninstall system apps?

Helium, or just use Google's in built backup - when you reset or anything you log back in to your g account and it auto restores everything for you -- and gives you an option to restore old apps also.

From everything I read Titanium doesn't do a good job with backing up the stock email app.

Are you sure that the google built in backup actually backs up the email accounts and settings??? Even though I have google backup enabled (I think), it has never really restored anything important.

When you re-log back into Google it gives you the option to restore backed up data.

Could always try the grabbing the data folders from the system and put them on your PC, then just swap them after a reset etc. Other than that, there's Google's cloud back up which is built in, or see what else is available (not sure what else there is tbh)
try MyBackup Pro

[Q] Option to backup and restore unrooted Note 3

Hi,
Can anyone suggest a simple way to backup and restore while resetting the device?
I had to wipe the date on the phone and reset it, but lost several stuff including Nova settings, installed apps via apks from unknown sources, etc.
Any good app which simplifies the backup and restore option? Tried Mybackup pro and Helium before, but not good.
I do not want to root the phone to use Titanium backup though.
Have you tried backing up the device with the back up feature available in the settings?

I did, although the backup was a month ago. When I reset, i could not backup as I lost my AVG password so had to reset using the buttons. Restored it using the backup feature but like I said above most of the features were gone! For example, my nova settings, etc

I have tried many apps but they are not stable enough, try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jiubang.go.backup.ex
The problem for most apps is they need root access to put back settings and so forth... Unfortunately there is a limit to what most apps can do to an unrooted phone...

(Q) transfering apps from rom to rom?

When you go through the setup after flashing a new ROM and gapps, it'll ask you if you want to restore and backup apps to your Google account

ty very much
Google only restores app data for a very small percentage of apps and is definitely not the most efficient way to do this. Titanium backup is THE app for this. You'll need to do some research, but once you learn it, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

Try ADB Backup/Restore Method, it's what i use for my ROMS.
Open CMD with adb/fastboot located, and just type in "adb backup -apk -all -f BACKUPNAME.ab" while my phone is connected with debugging enabled. To restore "adb restore BACKUPNAME.ab", i think it's more efficient than using Google's instore method, takes longer to reload while you could just copy all the apps back with every apps data.

Backing up

Hey guys,
So I have to send my 6P I got from Amazon to try out back, I bought one from Google to replace it with but all settings are exactly to my liking.
Is there anyway I can restore all settings, text threads, apps and layouts for the new phone replacing this one tomorrow? Please let me know as I am coming from ios and an icloud restore would do just that for me.
Thanks in advance!

You can backup/restore your sms with this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Make sure you copy the backup file to your new device to restore.
When you sign in to the new phone you'll be asked if you want to restore a backup from a previous device, the other 6P should be listed there, restore that and your apps will download from the Play Store again, and things like your Wi-Fi passwords should be restored too.
There's no way to backup your settings, your app data, layouts, etc without root though. To get root you'd need to unlock your bootloader, and unlocking your bootloader completely wipes the device, making the whole exercise pointless.
