Clearly you are confusing RAM and storage. Android fills your RAM with apps as unused memory is wasted memory. So Android will keep moving apps in and out of memory by use and priority.
Storage is what may be left on your internal memory by downloading a bunch of apps or creating many back ups on your phone and not deleting old ones. Where as AOSP ROMs may use about 500 MB less storage after gapps than Touchwiz ROMs, that is still not a big difference considering the 16 GB it comes with.

Gotha. Thanks KennyGlass. But after I do a full wipe and flash a new rom, there shouldn't be only 513 left without even intalling an app.

Where are you measuring this? Are you talking internal or RAM?

So no, a data reset will not delete pictures, backups, or any of that. You will need to go through your internal storage and delete things.

Move your pics to external sd card as well as your big app data files

Maybe your partition is not big enough?
big enough. i say its 800mb free
Yes , You have 800 mb but on general partion.Check out how much space you have on ext partitions.
I check it in the easiest way without anyy software.I'm connectin WF to my TV and get in USB and there are few drivers to choose then check info about and here it is.
Or with some kind of software in PC
Internal 25mb free, External (SD) 837mb free.
I advice you to make a quite bigger Internal and then check out'em

Moving to SD does not move the whole app to SD many times. Internal memory is occupied too, maybe 25 mb is too less? What's the exact error msg that its giving?
Have the same problem.
As far as i know APP2SD doesnt use the ext partition (just the Darktremor Apps2SD does) - but the APP uses the Froyo/Gingerbread buildin function and just saves some amount of the Apps to the SD card.
Somehow it worked for me if i try it a 2nd time (or after restarting the device in begin - after it worked fine for me).
But sometimes if I install apps it also tells me - not enough space - and i have 37MB internal left - even the app is just about 500kb.... - anyway it also works if i just try agains ome seconds later.
Annoying - but perhaps also works for u

Could you also tell us how 2 make bigger internal !??! If I dont want to disasemble my device and replace a chip?
As far as i know u just can get bigger internal space by moving apps or systemparts to the SD card... and thats where he has problems.
(But yes many custom roms already do it a bit: dalvik cache,.. - but u need 2 reflash another rom.... not part of this discussin atm i think)
i didnt have any problems with 2.3 nightly 49# and other nightlys or even 2.2 roms. But with new 2.3 RC1 i have these problems. so im moving to other rom

rom memory

I own a hd2 with the lates nand hyperdroid rom, and a a2sd partition on my 16 gig sd card.
Now, my phone's memory is full at the moment. I cant even update my current apps due to low memory. So I deleted 5 apps worth of 4 mb. However i can't still update for example the shazam app, which is a 1,5 mb upgrade.
Now, my questions are.
1. If I delete 4 mb worth of apps, why can't I still update the shazam app? 4-1,5 would mean I have 2,5 mb left, right?
2. Second, how can updating apps cost so much memory. Sometimes I need to deleted a few apps in order to update some apps to the newest version. I assumed a new app version wouldn't cost a lot of extra memory.
3. in titanium backup I see there is 28,9 of system rom, 26,3 of internal memory and 800 mb of a2sd left. How come it says memory is full?4
4. Is there a solution to installing more apps?
I'm sorry if my questions are a bit vage, but it's just frustrating that I cannot install the apps I want.

try going into settings and than applications than manage it should show you a list under downloaded. go into some of your apps you downloaded not widgets or important things that you use like button savior cause they wont wont when on sd card. youll see an option to move to sd card move it wait for it to say move to phone than its complete do that to a couple of apps then try to update the app, but take shazaam out of sd card if its there then try to upgrade it if it doesnt work. or back up all your apps than reflash.

Hi,
I noticed when I moved apps to my sd card using SuperBox,that it moved the app,but left the data on the phone.
If you have apps with large amounts of data(saves, etc.),these will be causing your problem.
Try using root Explorer or something similar and look into the cache folder. Apk files that you download from market are saved there sometimes. You can delete them there. You also can move your dalvik to sdext. Easiest way is a2sdgui.

Delete ROMs off the SD card to free up space....Or do you mean the internal storage of the actual MT4G[Max is apprx 1.1GB]. Use file manager to get rid of junk, or if you do mean the phone's storage then remove apps or use cache cleaner. If after flashing a ROM the phone says around 800-900MB then that's because of the ROM you're using.
Also, nandroid backups take up ALOT of space. Only keep 1 or 2.

As i said before we have just installed a new rom so there are almost no downloads at all.
i must say that im an IT specialist so i am familiar with storage folders downloads an temp files. obviously the problem is a bit mor sofisticated then that but thanks anyways
It doesn't work like that. 16gb is not one partition. It are multiple partitions. The rom itself (TW based) eat up a lot of storage. Together with a few apps it can become full easily. But maybe it's also possible that he didn't wipe properly before flashing a new rom and old files are still left.
So do a full wipe from the custom recovery and flash the rom again.
Installing a custom rom will not wipe the internal storage (unless you/he chose to do it when doing the standard wiping procedure).
So, even if he installed several roms, files usually still remain on the internal storage. Backups, rom zips, game data, etc.
Try this: Backup everything that is on the internal storage onto your pc and do a factory reset. See if it fixes anything. A factory reset wipes everything, including the internal storage.
You should also note that, even though Samsung advertised the phone as 16GB, it's actually only 9GB of usable space.
The rom partition takes about 2-3 GB. So that's a total of 12GB. Not 16, like Samsung says..

Internal Storage Full, But Numbers Don't Add Up

So before I do a factory reset was curious if there were other ideas. My device is complaining that the internal sd is full, but when I go to look at what is using the space only about 4gb I'd actually accounted for. Any ideas how to fix this?

What specifically is complaining?
If it's a particular app on the device complaining about full storage, then that may simply be a permissions issue. Especially if you're on Marshmallow which is a huge PITA with permissions.
Which is to better our security of course.

After I cleared the cache nothing complains any more. I just happened to notice that the numbers in the "Storage & USB" don't add up. The total if you add it up is 4gb, but the storage used shows 7.9.
I'm having the same issue. I have the 16gb model and it says that Android OS is 6.39gb leaving me with 9.61gb. It says I'm using 5gb but I only have a couple of apps and 1 game.. After I flashed my rom and installed all my stuff it wasn't 5gb... I used DiskUsage app and it says that 3024mb is being used as system data, but why would that be if there is 6.39gb for Android OS???

I still haven't found out why... just waiting for enough free time to factory reset.
