Keyboard and mouse suggestions - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to get a roll up easy to store keyboard, the only ones I see use Bluetooth 2.0. Does anyone have experience with those.
I would appreciate suggestions for both.

[Q] Bluetooth Keyboard quicklaunch keys

Hello all,
I have been using my acer a500 with its bluetooth keyboard for work forever - I work in a car and built a nice dock for it etc. I have recently moved to the N7 and I have the same keyboard. It has all the quicklaunch keys at the top (search, volume, browser, email, camera, files, music...... etc)
I would love to be able to use these for what they are labeled (or better yet assign things to what I want them). Is there an app out there or something I can edit? I have searched high and low and cannot find anything.... I need to go take those Google powersearching classes.....
TLR Looking for an app or where to edit to use bluetooth keyboard quicklaunch buttons.
Thank you so much for any help!

[Q] Note taking with Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard

I, apparently like many of you, have purchased the logitech android keyboard and I couldn't be more than pleased with the functionality. However there are a few things that it seems it is capable of that I have yet to figure out how to work.
Under language and input on physical keyboard settings I see the option to enable auto replace, auto capitalization, and auto punctuate. However I have not been able to see this actually function. Any feedback on anyone successfully using this would be great!
Also, what note taking apps have you guys been using? Anyone know of any that will make use of ctrl B, ctrl U, and ctrl I? What about bullet points, very few apps I've noticed have this feature. Any recommendations would help!

[Q] Issues installing Swype on the N4?

I'm trying to install Swype beta on my nexus 4, but after I download and installer the installer it hangs after I log in. The new gesture keyboard is nice but I miss some of the features in Swype. Is the N4 not supported? Has anyone else had better luck?
Same for me...

Does swype offer the predictive text as you're swyping like the stock keyboard? The last version I've tried of swype didn't.
I've installed without any problems. It was one of the first things I installed on the phone

It works if you have a titanium backup to restore, but its not working at the moment via the download/swype installer option. I think they are aware of the problem and working on it (from the Swype forums)
Missing it but the stock android one is doing an OK job in the meantime...
I installed swype beta just fine.
I get to the screen where it lets me choose a version to download but never loads the choices.
Try flex T9 instead. Installed no problem.
For the people who were able to install swype, is swype keeping your custom words? I'm noticing that I'm unable to add custom words to the personal dictionary. I'm not sure if it's a bug with the latest swype or it's just incompatible with the nexus 4.

Yes, it keeps my added words in my dictionary no problems

I had the same problem with the install. Just used a titanium backup as others said and it works for me.

Anyone find a solution while staying stock?
Download and install this. Works like a charm and skips the beta installer

Well it worked... but it's version 1.0.3.5809. Isn't that a pretty old version? Don't see some of the Swype connect options that are available in the latest beta.
It's one version old and still works with theme chooser. The new version has its own theme chooser thingy.
If someone with the newest version would go in to data/apps and find the com.nuance.swype.input-1.apk and upload it that would be great too.

Thank you @eniris!
You saved my day.
It worked fine and the .apk seems an up-to-date version.

@eniris - Thanks a lot!
I'm always wary of files people I don't know post, so scanned it with both ESET on my laptop and Lookout on my Nexus 4 to be sure. It's clean, and it works perfectly - it's version 1.3.1.9274.
Swype is perfect as a keyboard, but the new Android keyboard's speech recognition is better (it's real-time vs waiting for the Swype one to process, and it's nice that you can pause and easily record more). Now I only wish there was a quicker way to swap between the Swype keyboard and Google Voice Typing. When you're in an input field, you have to pull down the top menu, tap "Choose input method", and then tap "Google voice typing." It's way more cumbersome that just hitting the little icon, but doable. Maybe I'll just get used to the Swype one.
Anyway - thanks again eniris!

Browser that doesn't suck?

I've got a wireless USB keyboard and mouse (just plug and play) attached to my Ouya. So I can pretty much use it as a basic pc.
Trouble is, internet browsing kinda sucks on this device. What's everyone using for browser?
I've tried Chrome and Dolphin, aside stock. But I'm not really happy with any of them.
Suggestions? thanks.
cheers.

Why aren't you happy with Chrome/Dolphin?
I use Miren (http://miren.cn/) on my mobile, but I imagine Chrome would be the best for Ouya. I can't remember where the English Miren site is, but if you click the green down arrow, it will download, and when you run it, it will be localized to your language (There is at least English; that's the version I use).
I like Dolphin HD, it's my favorite browser on Android. I've heard Opera and Firefox are both pretty good, though.
I haven't tried Chrome on the OUYA, but I don't like it very much on my phone/tablet, either.
Thanks for the replies guys. My main concerns deal with wanting to use keyboard and mouse exclusively while browsing (I think I have this part figured out since I can use alt tab for app switching, and have mapped HOME to FN+F1 on my keyboard). But also feel like both dolphin and chrome have some rendering issues and flicker here and there.
I've actually been using the stock browser most, as it seems to accept more keyboard shortcuts like CONTROL+L for the address bar.
But I'm still gonna check out some other options.
Thanks again.
Side note: Flipboard is a big WIN on a big screen. So that'll do for news browsing and such.

i like chrome myself
I know it may not be what you want to hear, but i ditched the wireless keyboard + mouse and just installed blueboard on my phone and i use chrome now. Just bookmark all your favourite pages, and for anything else, use your phone for fast navigation via blue board.
a different option
I like the torch browser. It works like chrome, but has extras for downloading content off the internet.

Just checked out blue board. No clue how it could possibly be faster than using keyboard and mouse.
Not to mention it doesn't address my issues at all, as it's lacking basic navigation buttons. The blue board controller doesn't even have a HOME button.
The app doesn't even stay paired.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Anyone have a browser that works with the game controller? That would seriously help me a lot.
I'm kinda curious about BlueBoard, as I don't have an extra kb / mouse that I wanna deal with on the Ouya, but do use controllers all the time.
I don't have the Ouya just lurking, but my favorite browser for Android is xScope Pro.

firefox makes good use of the sticks (left one for scrolling, right one for zooming), but navigating through the tabs is a bit tricky..
Give lightning browser a try. You'll have to side load it but it has the feel of a real browser and works good.

Thanks. A 'real' browser experience is what I'm after. I'll check this out when I get home.
To clarify: real=desktop; since we have all the real estate of a big screen.

You cannot use the keyboard on the nexus 7 AFAIK.. I think you van just use the the arrow keys to navigate / scroll. Same goes with the functionality of the mouse.

Brother, I use the keyboard for typing and mouse for browsing the internet almost everyday.....and they work flawlessly together..i dont know why they cant be used for playing games...
During normal use, a kb and mouse work fine, as I use them constantly. But with games, you need an app that can act as an interpreter between the kb/mouse and the controls that the game is programmed to use. There are apps out there that do just that, and have been discussed in length in this section, general section, and the apps/themes section. They are apps like sixxaxis. There are others for tne kb mouse that you can try. A simple google search should get you where you need to be.
You should try USB/BT Joystick Center 8. It costs almost $5.00, but if it works for you, its worth it.
