What have you tried? What have you read? What is your current set up (baseband, carrier, etc)?

AT&T Branded S4
Baseband - I337UCUAMF3
Trying to use on another GSM carrier
Tried the steps listed on these locations:
http://gs4.wonderhowto.com/how-to/c...y-s4-so-you-can-use-another-sim-card-0148110/
XDA Forums (pretty much same as above)

Well maybe this can help you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2450129 but in my case same baseband, it didn't work so I had to order the unlock code for $10 bucks.

Nub question

Sorry if this is asked constantly, i tried searching and couldn't see any threads about it.
Basically what i'm wanting to know is if it's possible to unlock a phone that's still locked to a specific carrier (eg, optus or telstra if you're in australia). is this what CID unlocking is?
If so, then i guess i can grab a hermes / jasjam from ebay that's selling for less because it's carrier locked, unlock it, and use it with my current sim card?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
You're definately new with a question like that
Basically CID unlocking allows you to flash a ROM from any carrier and use it.
SIM unlocking allows you to use any SIM card with your existing (or any other) ROM.
If all you want to do is use a stock phone with any carrier I suggest you use POF's CID and SIM unlocker http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SimUnlock.
If you want to get better ROMS you'll need to do a whole pile more reading, and before flashing anything else start with Olipro's Hard-SPL 2.10 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722 and Mrvanx's Upgrade Guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299462.
Other useful upgrade info can be found in this sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=295751

so all i'd need to do, assuming i keep the stock rom, is to sim unlock it?
Yep, if you SIM unlock you can use the phone as supplied but with any carriers SIM card.
Oh yes, welcome to XDA-developers - I think if you read a bit more you will realise the benefits of the cooked ROMs here and later want to upgrade - it's highly addictive

One further bit of advice if buying one of these phones from ebay - ask the seller for a picture of the phone when switched on so you can check it has a radio signal - also get him to confirm that it doesn't display NO GSM on the bottom right when it is booting. The NO GSM indicates a brick which may or may not be fixable by the tools we have here.

cheers for the reply
at the moment i've got an imate k-jam, and have been reading up about cooked roms etc, but didn't realise exactly what the unlocking involved (except that it let you play with the roms).

galaxy S4 sch-r970 gsm question

I have a galaxy S4 sch-r970 (from US Cellular) and I am located in Europe (Greece), when I put my local carrier sim it says invalid sim, do you think that my phone is sim locked?. Also in options, at available bands, it has only cdma/lte, no gsm/wcdma to select.Anyone know how can I enable the GSM band to use it in my Country? I know the phone hardware supports the GSM bands, also its written on the manual and on the box. Can I flash a european rom and rebrand the phone to a gt-i9505? or flash another modem to enable GSM?? I cannot find any complete instructions about this. Plase if anyone know what to do give me some light, I have searched all over the internet without a clear answer

Your phone is Qualcomm based. The hardware supports GSM and LTE. Did you try flashing a GT i9505 ROM? That should come with a GSM enabled radio. I wonder if the antennas on your phone support your country's frequencies.

I just tried to flash the custom rom omega now for i9505 and working, but first problem I cannot turn on the wifi.I insert my sim card and it says NO SIM card inserted. At original rom used to say invalid sim. Maybe this has to do with the sim lock. I will try to call us-cellular and ask them for unlock code. Also in supported networks now I have also gsm/wcdma but I when I select one of them it returns back automaticly to CDMA. So maybe its something that has to do with the modem. Can I flash a european modem or it will hard brick my device? anyone know?

Try flashing an XX modem for the i9505 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192025
That way you won't have to reflash the whole ROM.

are you sure that it is safe to do this? some say flashing another carrier modem can hard brick devices! I dont care if it will soft bricked and then reflash it *with odin to revive but I dont want to end with a complete dead phone
I have copied the entire EFS folder to a safe place? is this enough for backup? also tried already this sim unlock method, but doesnt seem to do something, I still have the invalid sim error message.
by dialing *#0011# I find that has all the network settings about WCDMA,GSM,LTE,CDMA, and also all the frequencies about each band.
another question is: if the hardware its completly the same as the european version, theoretically someone can flash the european modem, rom, kernel and bootloader and transform the device completly to a european model. Can anyone give me a clear answer if this is possible? because I dont know a reason why this cant be done.!! and I am much interested to do this, if its possible

I don't know if the hardware is completely the same or not. You have already flashed Omega 6 which is based on a GSM stock ROM and includes GSM modem firmware which works in Europe.
The issue here imho is configuring the modem correctly, since it was configured by Samsung for US Cellular so it works in CDMA mode. Does the phone go into GSM roaming mode if you plug in a US Cellular SIM card?
Copying the contents of the EFS partition is not enough. I would use an EFS backup/restore app for that task.
Playing with the baseband configuration can hard brick the phone, as some have reported.

the omega rom didnt changed my modem, I can see in about phone but it remains the original.
I have put the us cellular sim card but cannot connect to any network.
Also about EFS, I tried the efs pro but after recognising the phone with ADB doesnt show in the list inside the program. Maybe due to not known model like i9505

You are right about Omega 6 not changing the modem software. I have been using Omega for S3 since Aug 2012 and I thought the modem firmware was always updated to match the rest of the release. Sorry about that mistake.
Can you call US Cellular and ask if they have roaming agreement with your Greek GSM operator? That might shed some light on compatibility.

I will give them a call, but I believe the reason why cannot find network with uscellular sim its not having roaming agreement with Greek GSM as you said. But I dont care about roaming. I want to use my local sim cards for GSM network and pay for local prices.

Well, if selling it is not an option, you can try flashing an old 9505 XX modem from the post I mentioned previously and then try to SIM unlock it from the service menu.

unlock trophy verizon

Hello, i just bought a verizon htc trophy and i live in Peru, does someone knows a website where i could unlock free?
also, i read when i flash the phone to a custom ROM the phone free it selfs?
To carrier unlock it, you can call Verizon and ask them to unlock the SIM for international travel, but no guarantees.
To developer unlock or full unlock (using either WP SDK for the first or the DFT HSPL tool) the Trophy you need to follow the various tutorials out there.

To have the sim unlock you have to call verizon. There isn't any other way to unlock it unless you pick up an aftermarket sim, which I can't help you with. (I don't know, nor know if they are legal in the US.) They might be able to unlock it depending on how long the last owner had it on their plan.
Besides, its a good PDA. Flash the Norkser 8858 rom and follow the steps for CAB updates in the WP7 Development and Hacking forum.

That not quite how windows phones work. Flashing a different rom, only flashes the OS, not the stuff that directly interacts with the Hardware, e.g. the Radio driver. There is only three radios for the Verizon Trophy and they are all from Verizon, so there isn't much to do. The Radio is what controls the SIM locking, and no one has tried decompiling it, afaik. I'm afraid that you either have to contact the last owner or call verizon. Not much more I can do.
You can try and see if its been already unlocked by inserting your SIM, but chances are that it will prompt you for an unlock code. You can get that from various sites online and pay, or try Verizon for free.

[Q] Yeah, I'm a n00b, and I need help with an S4 i9505

Hey guys,
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 here and I need to get the SIM unlocked on it. See at the moment it's registered to O2 with an O2 sim card. Putting in another gives the message: 'SIM network unlock PIN' and requires a passcode. There are many guides on the internet which instruct people how to use the service menu *#0011# to change the network settings, but unfortunately I can't access the controls (the main menu doesn't appear regardless of what I do). Also there's something called "GalaxSim Unlock", an app, but I've installed this and it doesn't work either (gives the error no unlock method known for this device).
I've managed to use Odin to root the phone...or at least I think I have - but everything is exactly the same. Can anyone on here help me because it's a real pain in the arse.
I'd be happy to discuss it on Skype if you'd prefer by the way. PM me and I'll give you my ID - I would post back the solution here just so anyone reading knows.
Phone details:
Type: SAMSUNG Galaxy S4
Model: GT-I9505
OS: Android 4.4.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUFNB9
Kernal version: 3.4.0-481100

Yeah, unlock it by IMEI :highfive:
Really? There's no way to unlock it via changing the software?
I know of people who've managed to unlock their iPhones using jailbreaks - I would've thought on android it would be even easier. There's really no way to do it, despite being able to install a completely new operating system?

****ter. Okay, no worries.
Another question: If I put let's say, a vodafone SIM card in it now and get it unlocked, will I have to pay again if I change to a different SIM card later, say Orange? Will I need to pay to get it unlocked twice or is it just once for all networks?
Thanks again.

Sim Unlock - Test Me :)

Hi all, I'm a long time member here at XDA. First time posting here in the M9 forums .
Over in the Sprint forums (as this is the device I have) I have created this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/general/sim-unlock-thanks-to-ftm-t3134003
Trying to see if it is possible to Sim Unlock using the new FTM mode (volume up + power button combo) along with the config.dat that seempi has created.
It didn't work for me (it read the file though) as my device is Sprint and the Unlock process is different.
FTM mode can also change your CID, IMEI (PROBABLY NOT LEGAL IN YOUR COUNTRY, DO NOT DO IT) and SF (whatever that is???)
Anyway if you care to check it out and test it, that would be greatly appreciated.
If you can post a logcat as well with the relevant info that would also help. (ADB is avaialable in FTM mode, you may need to reinstall driver from device manager though)
Any feedback greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Stifilz
I did this other day, but have not verified if it either or not. And no logcat, but I will check within the next few hours if it actually unlocked my phone.

Hmmmmm, that could be it. I know for normal T-Mobile unlock you need to change from T-Mobile FW.
As for the logcat, does 'adb devices' work in FTM? I had to manually install the driver in FTM mode
