KnockOn not working while running with armband - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using my GS4 running armband with my G2, it fits well actually but there is one MAJOR issue. The phone will NOT wakeup when double tapping the screen. It will however turn off when double tapping the status bar. Has anyone else gone running with their G2? If so how has it worked out and what armband are you using?

Be sure the proximity sensor isnt covered, if this is covered it doesnt listen, probably to prevent from turning on in your pocket.

Yep...sounds like the culprit.

The ar band I am using doesnt cover it, I wonder if maybe its too thick and is possibly messing with the sensor?

KnockOn is also affected by the orientation of the phone. If it doesn't detect that it is in an appropriate orientation for typical phone use it will ignore the KnockOn feature.

I have tested that, it turns on at all angles and even upside down. I don't think that is very accurate, even if LG advertises that. I am guessing my arm band is too thick.

Anything touching the screen prolly jacks with it as well!

Just got my international version yesterday and was really bummed to discover the same issue this morning.
It definitely has sonething to do with the proximity/light sensor next to the LED getting thrown off my the plastic of the armband view area.
I experimented by pressing the plastic flat against the phone and it then worked. Obviously not practical to try and do while running, but its a start. I imagine that, while not ideal, cutting a section from the armband window may help
Will post if I find something else

Htc Desire Z Has Magnetic Wake?

hi, i was bored and i put my desire z in my friends blackberry messenger case with a magnetic latch. when i pulled out my desire z, it seemed to have turned on. After further inspection, i found out that if you slide a magnet behind the desire z slowly, it will wake the device bypassing the lockscreen. I just wanted to share this with everyone
Be careful with that magnet I have a feeling that could really mess up your phone if its strong.

@least theres no hdd memory so that won't be a problem... but what will?

I don't think it would be that bad unless you had a really powerful one. The phone already has some sort of magnet or magnets in it. I'm a welder and have found steel filings bunched up all over the place on it.

well its a small magnet in a messenger case. i doubt that it would be strong enough to screw up my phone also i dont know if htc intentionally put a magnetic wake in their phones or not?
I have the same issue... and it wakes as the slider is opening.
Then the magnetic field probably interferes with the slider mechanism/sensor

This is not an issue. Also when your keyboard is open, your phone turns on because it senses that the mechanism is open/ moved. this is supposed to happen. htc designed it like this so people could text easier without having to push the power button

I think you didn't undertand my statement
My issue is: when I put my Desire Z over the magnetic case, it thinks the keyboard is opening (same as you described).
Also bypass the lockscreen, as the keyboard opening.
I know that when I open the slider the screen goes landscape, it obivious.... the issue is when it happens when it is not suposed to.
it could also depend on that the capacitive touchscreen works like this: when u put your finger on the screen and have contact with the metal backside of the phone the magnetic field of the screen is interrupted and recognizes where your finger are, maybe the magnet from the case makes the screen go haywire because of the magnet?
Just a theory..

no i dont think so. when i slide the magnet over the back of the phone, im grabbing the sides of the phone, not the screen or back.

Faulty magnetic sensor?

I recently tried an app called "android sensor box". All sensors seem to work fine except the magnetic sensor. It seems to detect strong magnetic forces somewhere. However, when I use my N1 phone and turn on the sensor, the sensor in N1 does not detect anything. Is that something wrong with Nexus 7 magnetic sensor? Anybody have the same issue?
Is that in the developer section? Oh, and did you check to make sure Magneto isn't hiding in the closet? (There's a pun in there)

I am not developing this app. I just want to check if the sensors in my Nexus 7 function properly.
There is no Magneto close to my room. The odd thing is the sensor in my phone does not pick up any magnetic forces when I compare both devices side by side. I thought about the N7 case may cause such interference but then when I remove the N7 from the case, it still behaves the same. Also, I installed a compass app to both devices. It appears to me that the one in N7 does not function properly, pointing to the wrong direction, even after I did the calibration as suggested by the app.

Touchscreen problem - is this a known issue or a hardware defect?

Hi,
i own my nexus for one week, and today i used a smart cover which caused some troubles.
first all worked like a charm, close the flap, display off, open it, display on. magnets, how do they work? ****ing magic!
well, a couple hours later the touchscreen wasnt responding after shutting down the display. at first, after opening and closing the flap a few times the touchscreen worked again, but by now its totaly ****ed. if the display shuts down, all i can do is pressing the power button for a couple seconds and then start again. (it has nothing todo with the smart cover, i think it was just a coincident)
heres what i have done so far:
- factory reset
- flashed the stock rom (i only unlocked the device)
- re locked the bootloader (mainly because im pretty sure its a hardware issue and i wanna return it...)
is there anything else i can do? i know that there are many issues with the touchscreen, but from what i read, its about ghosting and other glitches, not a complete breakdown that can only be fixed by rebooting and occurs as soon as the display shuts down.
thanks for your help!
What brand of smart cover/case are you using? and do you still have the same problems even without the cover?

yeah, the problems are even without the cover. i thought there was maybe a problem that the hall sensor got magnetized or whatever, but that doesnt fit with the symptoms.
i use this case:

Yeah seems that it's more of a hardware issue that was probably caused from the case if anything. Good thing you already re-locked the bootloader since I'd suggest returning it for a replacement. Just don't mention anything about using a case . If you do get a replacement, maybe try a different case to avoid the same problem.

No, otherwise why would they have put the sensor in the device to react to it?

[Q] Weird touch sensitivity issue [D802]

It's pretty weird..
If my phone is laying down on my bed or desk or whatever, and I use my index finger, the upper right corner area doesn't respond well at all.. No matter how hard I press or how long.
BUT
When I pick my phone up, hold it in one hand and using the other ones index finger, it works ok. Holding it in one hand and using the thumb works well too.
It's as if the phone needs to feel the warmth of my palm to react to touch... How is that possible?
I am from the middle east. It's not cold now. My room is like 25C (78F)..
I really dont know if I'm fooling myself or if it's real.. I tried what I just described a lot of times. Even tried different angles of holding the phone (Not including screen rotation).
My phone was never dropped or even bumped. I am very careful with it.
I have a Nillkin tempred glass protector which I know hurt my sensitivity in general. But this issue is beyond that.
Any thoughs?
Anyone?
Just say what you think or experience yourselvs.
???
When my phone is placed on the bed, touch reactes badly. When I take it, in the same position, real quick, and place it on my pants, it works fine.
HOW???
I can't even think of a logical reason...

Start disabling the apps which cause bloatware wakelocks like google plus, google location etc and try to have atleast 800-900 ram available.
Also install trickster mod from play and change your governor to interactive and see if this helps

I really doubt its a software or RAM\CPU clock issue...
Anyhow, can you explain more what to do? How do I disable the apps you said?
And how may the CPU governor be related to this?

These issues are never ending.. They will fix my screen and **** up my GPS or something..
It's like nothing can be perfect.
I will just stick to my "faulty" screen.. Although I think it's my Tempred glass protector who is causing the sensitivity problem.

I assume you have a rooted phone. With the help of titanium backup you need to disable apps which you find running under settings>apps>running tab
Find the once you think are not needed by you on daily basis. You can also disable them from the same tab otherwise use titanium.
Our default governor is ondemand which means whenever a high demand comes it will adjust its speed according to activity so sometimes a mili seconds delay can cause the issue so change it to interractive and see if it help. I am afraid you have to try out these procedures and see which one auits you.
Also, if you think its the protector then youbshould remove it and test without it. Protectors are very cheap so you must test it

Screen keeps pulsing even with no notification

I did a Google search for this and couldn't find anything that matched my issue. I thought there was a post on XDA about something similar but nothing came up.
I have 'approach for moto display activated'. I have all other moto activations deactivated.
I have 'wake screen on moto display' activated. I prefer to wave my hand to wake my screen.
I have noticed that when I'm driving, the phone keeps waking the screen. It's like the phone is thinking I'm moving the phone but I thought I had all those options turned off. There isn't anything making movements over the IR sensors.
Am I mistaken when I think the screen should not come on when it senses motion?
Yeah, I also think the sensitity is way too high... I have it sitting next to me on the desk @work about 50cm away.... display goes on all the time... annoying ._.

The phone senses movement and will wake. Put it on a pillow or something and gently move the pillow. The display will wake. Same principle in vehicle. Any jarring or bouncing motion will wake display. The phone won't do this if its face down or on it's side.
An option to disable the movement wake would be great. I'm surprised they don't have the option along with the approach option.

Face down doesn't help when you're using the speakers.
A double tap to wake option in a custom kernel would be beneficial IF it would be feasible with this processor.

Well that's the only way to disable it from waking when you move it, LOLZ.
I know.... But my statement was I wish that they had an option to disable the motion like they did with the approach. I'd much rather have approach enabled and motion disabled.

I totally agree.
I thought mine was doing that too but after testing it yesterday on the way home I think that it's my hand that's activating it. I have the phone mounted on an air vent next to the steering wheel and when my hand is up there it activates the screen, if it's not there it doesn't seem to come on at all even going over bumps etc.
Maybe you have something similar? I have all of the assist option on and it's in driving mode during this.
Mine does the same, but it was on a table far enough from me to not be triggered by movement, just reproducing some music. If it s also sensible to that it doesn't make sense. I already had to switch off moto voice cause it got triggered by almost everything, even the runtle of the fridge. If I have to switch off all the moto functionalities cause they work bad well than I could have bought another phone.
Have to say I agree here. I would love to be able to either adjust the sensitivity to movement of durable the move to wake while keeping the proximity and turned on.
