[Q] Battery issues - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I don't seem to be the only one that has battery issues with the i9505.
It's randomly rebooting and then stuck in bootloop until i connect it to the charger. Once it reaches the homescreen I can disconnect and the battery % will slowly creep up to it's original percentage which is VERY frustrating when you're not near a charger.
Problem is the phone is rooted so going back to the shop is probably not an option plus I can't be without a phone for several weeks because I'm guessing they will send the phone back to Samsung for tests.
Should I buy an original battery or are there good aftermarket ones? I'm kind of weary of buying some cheap eBay battery since I heard they have bad performance or can even be dangerous.
Suggestions?

G1 won't charge and magically fixes itself.

So I had an unusual experience with my G1 and I though I would share it with the forum for feedback or to possibly help someone else out.
I come from the winmo community and recently purchased a Cliq xt. Without a root method and stuck on 1.5 I picked up a cheap used G1 to play with. I was told the phone was a few years old. I rooted the phone and installed CyanogenMod 5.0.8.
I soon noticed my battery was not holding a charge and immediately ordered 2 1400mah batteries off Ebay. I got the batteries, fully charged one and let it completely drain. When I went to plug the phone back in to charge it up it would not charge. The only way the phone would boot up was if it was plugged in (to the usb or wall charger). From what I read I gathered that if I got a unit to charge the batteries out of the phone I would still be able to use the phone. I charged a battery and put it in the phone. Still the phone will not turn on. Oh well my G1 died, I'll just buy one with a broken screen and swap them out.
By the time I found a broken G1 on CL my original G1 sat for 4-5 days with the fully charged battery in it. When I went to start dissecting the phones I noticed my old G1 was on and running. WTF? Battery level was at 18%. I plugged the phone into the wall charger. It indicated it was charging. I turned the phone off and on and fully charged it over night. I have been using the phone for the entire day and the battery life is as good as a G1 gets.
Everything I have read about the not charging/turning on issue indicated that the mother board was bad in the phone. Yet my phone displayed those same symptoms and started working again.
Thoughts?
Yea it happend to me too.
You just need to pull the battery for 5 minutes and put it back in. I think its because the CM6 builds overclock it to 576mhz (higher then rated 528mhz) and that causes issues like this.

I had this as well and when I removed battery and put back in I noted that the battery level had flipped from in the red to the equivalent of in the green... this was before i even rooted my phone... possible software issue perhaps?

The end of a G8 101IT

After a few years of good experiences, the last couple of weeks my Archos 10.1IT is having problems. A re-install of everything did not cure. Apparent problem are the device not going to sleep (the screen switches off but the device keeps active), and the USB host port no longer working. Well, sleep and host port works immedeately after a reboot, but stops after having slept once. This happens with stock Android, and with UrukDroid.
Yesterday I switched it on at charge level 80% and within minutes it dropped to 10%. Then the device froze, and I notices that it had become very hot. I could not switch it off (long press of the power switch had no effect) so I put it outside just in case it would catch fire.
That didn't happen. I tried to recharge it but the behaviour didn't change: Immedeately after booting up it starts discharging fast. Peculiar is that although I switched it to ariplane mode, WiFi is still the biggest consumer of energy (36%). Also peculiar is that although the battery feels hot, battery snap reports the temperature at 23.0 (which is the normal temperature during operation).
Something is severely wrong. I think this is the end of this tablet.

Just for fun I investigated at the company I bought it, and they informed me that I had a two year warranty (I expected just one year). This means that I still can send it back for repair.
To prepair the device for reparation I wiped it (reset Android and data). To my surprise it is now charging again and seems to function normally (except for the deep sleep and host port). Strange...
FYI: The Samsung Note 10.1 is nice and fast, but very bloated. And you need all kinds of extra connectors and cables to connect it to the charger, USB devices and HDMI.

Today I went to the shop with the broken Archos. They were very sorry to inform me that they didn't sell Archos anymore, and couldn't repair it. All they could do was give me a refund.
So I received €159,95 refund after 20 months for a device that was €229,00 when I bought it.
Still I think I gonna miss it...

There are 2 batteries inside the Archos 101, and it is very easy to replace. Will you try ?
Those batteries are very simple. You can get it thru the mail order.

[N910F] Note 4 new battery keeps on restarting, does not turn on

Hello all,
As my trusty Note 4 which I've had for over a year gave signs of low battery life (lasting only 3-5 hours on a full charge), I decided to pick up a new replacement battery.
I purchased it from a renowned retailer, it is an original battery with the plastic packing and everything. Made in Korea, Assembled in Vietnam.
The problem is, I inserted the battery and the phone won't turn on. I put the charger in as I though it was discharged. While on charge it turns on perfectly and I can use it. As soon as I remove the charging cable it shuts down after 1 sec. After that when I try to turn it on it keeps restarting, won't get past the Note 4 logo.
My phone is rooted, with TRWP recovery and Emotroid 6.0.1 ROM on it.
Could this be a software issue? I can power it up just fine in download mode, but recovery does the same as normal boot up.

sounds like a bad battery, even trusted sellers send out bad batteries sometimes.
I second the vote for bad battery. I had the same situation with a replacement battery. If the phone is turned off and connected to the charger, the charging image pops up briefly, closes down and then pops up again repeatedly. All my other batteries charge normally in the phone. There are too many bogus parts on the internet. Other than buying directly from the manufacturer I don't know of any way to be sure what I am buying is genuine.
Yep....deffo a battery issue. I got a new battery for my wife's N4 direct from Anker. The same as I have done for every phone I've ever needed a new battery for. NEVER had any problems with Anker batteries....

Stay WELL away from eBay, even if the seller states 'genuine' you can pretty much guarantee that the offered battery has never seen the inside of a Samsung battery factory.

The Battery issue

I've been doing tons of research on this whole battery draining issue on the 6p. I cant seem to find a simple solution around this tired issue that plenty of people seem to be having. My battery has about 3 Hrs of screen on time before it dies. I've tried shutting down all kinds of connection settings, clearing the cache and even factory reseting my phone. I just recently tired the android O beta and that didn't help either. All I want is to figure out if my battery needs to be replaced or is it the software that's killing my battery. I've even called google and they cant help, Huawei wants to charge me $165 for a replacement battery and thats way too much. Has anybody found a fix that doesn't involve rooting the phone?

It is NOT the software. There is no fix for a badly degraded battery. Replace your battery. Buy the battery online and then shop around for a local shop to install it if you're not able to.

Are you dying at 60% or lower? Does it happen when you open the camera? Does the phone shut off when a random loud sound plays or something of sorts? I ask cause that is what is happening to me. Random reboots? I don't think that is "battery" related per-say.
Have you tried installing a battery stats app that can help narrow down the culprit?
More details would probably help others help you.
Does it fully charge?
How long does the battery last, not just screen on time?
3 hours SOT doesn't sound terrible. I've heard worse.
How old is the phone?
Had the same problem...I bought a new original battery from ebay and replaced the old battery by myself. To be honest, there was not much improvement...now with a medium usage (whatsapp, wifi or 4g always on, some clash of clans/clash royale gaming) I get 3hrs30min SOT at the late evening, never more. And also I'm on francokernel so I should easily get 4hrs but nothing.
Anyway, unless you are an expert, I don't recommend you to replace the battery for yourself because, sadly, the N6P is a phone impossible to open up without damaging it especially the rear glass...surprisingly, on my case it didn't break but it's all scratched and I should buy a new one.
Furthermore, now my battery doesn't charge anymore up to 100%...it's stuck at 93% and only if i unplug and plug again the phone it gets to 98%...to get 100% i have to plug and unplg it several times and wait something like 30min to get from 98% to 100%. I don't know what caused this problem but it looks like there's no solution...software and hardware battery calibration didn't do anything. Maybe the battery I bought was faulty...
In conclusion, buy the new battery but ask someone expert to replace it if you aren't.

The first replacement battery I tried acted like that and it was quite frustrating. It wouldn't charge to 100% and had about the capacity of my degraded OEM battery. I ended up ordering this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-3-82V-3...wei-Google-Nexus-6P-H1511-H1512-/351786248092 It charges to 100% and has like new capacity, but no internal battery temperature sensor. I installed it in January and have been happy with it. Others have opted for the Cameron Sino brand replacement. more expensive but with working battery temperature sensor.
You can order a replacement back cover with glass and bottom strip for around $25 if you're worrried about scratches. That's under $40 for new battery, aluminum back, camera glass, and bottom strip.

I think I'll go for the Cameron Sino battery...a little more expensive, yes, but more reliable...I've also heard of people complaining that after 2 months their batteries (ordered from ebay, false OEM) died...
So, is that the answer to our fast draining battery issues? To get a replacement battery? The Cameron Sino?

Unless it came from the play store where you can RMA it and let Google have the problem.
But if Google replaces it, it may have the same issues, right?
It could I guess if the battery in the replacement device is a dud. Just got my replacement and the battery is showing 106% capacity compared to 30% capacity on the old one. Back to how it was when I first got it so happy with that service seeing as it was nearly 2 years old.
If the new one does not have a full capacity, then just reject it before you swap over to it and get Google to send out another.

How are you checking the capacity?
Accubattery is one way. Do a couple of decent charges with the screen off and then look at the health report.
Same, I tried several things, clearing the Cache, factory reset and nothing works. My Nexus 6P randomly shuts down between 80% to 90% and doesn't turn on umless I connect it to the charger.

Device temperature too low, can't charge oneplus 5

I own an OnePlus 5 that I have used for a couple of months with stock OOS and locked bootloader and unrooted. I have always used an original dash charger and cable. However, few days ago the phone became unresponsive to the charger and after the battery died. When I reconnect the charger now, it gives a message that device temperature too low, can not charge and when I turn it on the battery shows 50% charge when I remove the charger it turns off after a short while. The phone didn't suffer any drop or water damage or any other kind of accident. The phone is not under warranty so, I need to find a way to charge the phone. I have searched for the problem on many forums and some point out to a faulty temperature sensor on the battery and others point to the daughter charging board while some say there's an issue with the motherboard. Is there anyone who could troubleshoot the problem precisely.
Or, Is there a way, to flash a custom kernel which could turn off the temperature sensor on the battery, if it's there.
Also, needed to know that will the problem go away after a battery replacement?
I have wiped cache and data, downgraded the phone from Pie to Oreo and nothing seemed to work. Some people suggested putting it to rest for 24 hours, I also did that, but to no avail.
seems like the thermistor in the battery died ,i suggest to swap the battery with a new one

Are you sure that the temperature sensor is located on the battery or inside the battery? Because, if I buy a new battery that would mean I can not get it replaced if the issue is not with the battery.
I have to order it online as the battery is not available in the local market.

yes sir ,that why batteries have more than 2 pins ?..swap it and you will be good to go

Sorry for being overly cautious about the issue. I have searched some forums where people couldn't get the issue resolved even after changing the battery.
Still, I am thankful regarding your input and replies.
But is there, a custom kernel available where the battery sensor could be bypassed for the cell to charge?
Before buying anything or opening the phone yourself contact OnePlus. If the phone is under warranty probably they will take care of it. (even if, many times, the battery doesn't have the same warranty as the rest of the phone)

i haven't faced this issue on the op5 ,but in the past i have faced it in other phones (not charging with battery is too cold message)either way a replacement is pretty cheap i would go for it ..(i don't think it's a good idea trying to dissable it ,the same sensor is responsible for the current that the battery is receiving so i don't think you can dissable it at all because the phone will not know at what amps to charge the battery,i bet it won't charge or extremely it will become galaxy note 7 bomb :silly: )

Dear the problem is that the phone is not covered under any warranty. I purchased it locally from a shop that doesn't provide warranty for any phone. I live in Pakistan, I tried contacting OnePlus but seems like they don't have any official stores in Pakistan. I guess, there's a service centre with whom they have partnership for services.
I guess, I have to contact them.

Hi, just curious about the update on this one? I've also encountered the same issue on my OP5 and still waiting for the battery replacement I ordered hoping that it is a faulty battery.
I didn't have the low temperature issue but my charging port did start to fail so I replaced it and the battery last month. The hardest part is getting the back off. The screen snaps in much tighter than most phones I've worked on which were glued shut.
I got my parts from E-Trade supply but I never will again. The charging port I got for an iPhone 6 I'm repairing was defective and they would only credit the part and not the $22 in shipping I paid them. They eventually did, but only because I bought several items over the past few years and I started putting up bad reviews on them. Never again.
The parts for the OnePlus 5 were okay although the brand new battery is only at 91% health. The original 16 month old one was 83% still a gain.
Hey brother, did the battery replacement fix the issue?? I have been having the same problem since today morning.
[Update] Was able to bring my OP5 to a local tech who is trusted to fix OnePlus devices but unfortunately the problem on my phone is with the motherboard. Tech already tried replacing the battery as well as the charging port to no avail, so I may have to stick with my OnePlus 5 permanently connected to a power source while I wait for the upgrade(OnePlus 7) to be released.
The same thing with me, I trying now to fix this, but... I can,t

After almost a month with the local tech, he was able to order a spare part for the issue with my OP5 motherboard. Fingers crossed hoping that it will be fixed within this week, it already cost me $100 :crying: I'll update on which part needs to be replaced if the issue is with the motherboard itself.

[UPDATE] A Battery replacement by OnePlus solved my problem. It also fixed certain other issues I was having like 3hr SOT, random shutdowns before reaching 0% etc. Cost me ₹1600 (around $22.5)

Man I paid about the same for the battery and replaced it myself. But at least I didn't have to send it away. Unfortunately my only other phone (HTC one M8) doesn't work on my carrier.
[Update] My OP5's alive and kicking again. It cost me $40 for the board to be fixed, $60 for the front glass replacement.

Sad to hear this is still going on with OnePlus phones. I had this problem with my 3T. Replaced everything, except the motherboard. I'm figuring it's that, but at this point I don't care. A replacement is anywhere from $80 to $150. You could buy a new 3T outright for that price.
