it is also very confusing that all the 3 custom recoveryies available for the GT i9505 are not yet stable and there are several people who complain about them..

Won't boot into custom recovery

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum. I have been doing a lot of research about rooting my s4 (SGH-1337, i9505) on firmware 4.3, and after a long process of trying different methods, I finally found a method that works, using a chinese root program. When I use root checker, it says my device has been fully rooted. However, I am having trouble booting into custom recovery. I used rom manager to flash clockworkmod touch, and it says flash succeeded, but whenever I try to boot into recovery, it will only take me into the stock android recovery. I decided to try to flash CWM through Odin, but every time I try that it says flash failed. I am not sure what the issue is here, and I have tried almost all of the methods that I have found. Any help would greatly appreciated!

The I337 and i9505 are not the same device. We cannot have a custom recovery on our 4.3 firmware with the I337 because of the locked bootloader. The i9505 is the international version, and has an unlocked bootloader since no carrier is enforcing a lock on it. So you can only have root and use root apps for now, and then use Safestrap when it is updated for flashing other Touchwiz or GPE 4.3 ROMs.

thank you so much. I guess I'll have to wait to be able to unlock the bootloader. Do you know of any methods now that can unlock it?
There is no method and may never be a method.

I just found this post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42320391.
I should be able to at least install custom recovery using this method correct? Loki is sort of a workaround right?

Not for MK2 4.3 on AT&T I337. If that's your device and firmware version, at this time, your bootloader is locked. Safestrap is 4.2.2 only. Patience.

[Q] Questions on installing CWM

Hi all, im a noobie with samsung devices and this whole Odin thing so decided to ask here before messing up things.
So, i want to install a custom rom. I rooted my device with towelroot just a while ago, so now i only need a CWM recovery. Can i just download the latest CWM .tar file for note 3 and flash it through Odin? Will the fact that i rooted using towelroot have any impact on this? Also, will towelroot stick when flashing the CWM recovery, or flashing a new rom?
Can Rom Manager be used to install CWM, as i understand that it is a supported device. Is it a worse way than going through Odin?
My plan is to make a backup with CWM and then probably flash X-Note rom if all goes how i planned it.
Sorry if these questions are answered somewhere, couldn't find with browsing and searching for a good while.
Im on N9005 and 4.4.2
Thanks for all help!

Use this to install CWM through Odin it is better.
When u flash the new ROM and after wiping, the root using towelroot will be gone but probably the rom u'll be flashing will already be rooted or u can root easily with CF auto root.
I recommend TWRP over CWM, especially for a new flasher
Cheers!

[Q] question about know, towel root and clockwork rom manager

Hi. I've asked similar question before but wasn't given a clear answer.
I've done quite a bit searching and I am not a noob to rooting and custom roms.
I want to keep my knox and I am aware that there is a method using towelroot to root without knox tripping, however installing CWM or any other custom recoveries will trip knox.
My question is, once I've rooted using towelroot method and then install clockwork's rom manager off play store then install recovery through it, will they still trip knox?
Also what if I just use rom manager to install custom roms without instslling the recovery? Is that possible? I so badly want custom roms but I cannot risk knox. Please advice....

Q: My question is, once I've rooted using towelroot method and then install clockwork's rom manager off play store then install recovery through it, will they still trip knox?
A: You will trip KNOX this way as well.
Q: What if I just use rom manager to install custom roms without installing the recovery? Is that possible?
A: Use Mobile Odin Pro instead. ROM Manager uses an existing recovery to install ROMs, without a recovery it is not possible. Check this link out.

Thank for your detailed reply!
I got the mobile odin pro now.
I want miui rom but wonikas miui has custom kernel. It will trigger knox right?
Any other miui rom without custom rom? Or is there way to install miui rom with stock kernel?
Or does miui require custom kernel to work?
All Miui Roms require a custom kernel so you will definitely trip knox.
Go for it
If you decide to go for it do youself a favor: Flash TWRP recovery.
Take a look at [TOOL/UTILITY][TWRP][ 2.7][RECOVERY] TWRP 2.7.2.x TeamWin Recovery Project 7/5
You will not regret it.

You can follow this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/root-how-to-obtain-root-permissions-t2862768
DONT FLASH THE FILES ATTACHED IN THE THREAD.
GET THE SIMILAR FOR YOUR FIRMWARE.
THIS IS ONLY THE METHOD OF HOW TO MAKE TOWELROOT WORK.
Relying on your point that i9507 = i9505. (Almost)
In a simpler way,
Download towelroot on your phone
Get stock kernels of the firmware that you are using right now and of an older 4.4.2 version (say early august)
Flash the kernel of the previous version of 4.4.2.
Use towelroot
Flash latest kernel.
You have root without tripping Knox
If you want to trip Knox (many don't want to trip it and many don't care if it trips) see for chainfire's cf-autoroot flashable via odin.
Or
If you have philz recovery for your phone, flash philz and then in recovery-philz options-reroot your phone.

did you check whether its properly Rooted using SU or Root checker?
Also not all Kitkat compatible Xposed modules are working with Lollipop (esp in Touchwiz)
And what recovery have you installed to flash ROM?
i checked it with root checker app get it through play store... it shows my device is rooted but still i am not able to install omega rom. i rood my mobile with ( CF-Auto-Root-ha3g-ha3gxx-smn900) with odin BASEBAND N900DDUEBOB1. & STILL IT SHOWS STOCK RECOVERY MODE.
You need to flash recovery separately.
If you read instructions in CF Auto Root, they'd have mentioned as Outcomes as (Root + Stock Recovery)
Flash TWRP or Philz after that
