Samsung video app thumbnails - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I recognized that the Samsung video app produces a lot of thumbnails which decrease the internal memory.
I have a 64gb extSD and quite a lot of movie files on it, therefore the thumbnail folder becomes pretty large.
Is there a way to stop this app producing those thumbnails?
Any suggestion is appreciated.

I've been trying several search queries for this and haven't come up with any answers...I guess the only solution is to disable/freeze Samsung video player and install a 3rd party app?
It's ridiculous...I mean I do really think it's neat to see all my videos playing in the thumbnail view...it's good to show off to a friend...but at the cost of 4GB of thumbnails on my sdcard? No thanks!

Videos peg CPU at Max?

So, anybody got some answers for me. I noticed the same thing on my G2. If I put pretty much any video file on my Nexus S storage and it will peg the CPU to the maximum. The gallery just hangs trying to load media. Does anyone have any help with this?

Bump. Anybody? Surely with all this commotion about non expandable memory someone actually has some media on their phone.

My experience with playing videos and the Gallery have been perfect so far. I only have videos that I've downloaded from youtube using Freedi YouTube. I also have galleries on Picasa that the gallery app has to download along with pictures on the storage. I haven't noticed any slowdowns or lagging so far.

[Q] Slow Motion video

So, the new iPhone 5s can record (or rather edit to) slow motion video. The Moto X can straight record slow motion video.
The LG G2 can record at 60fps, which can be converted to slow motion video, but not anywhere on the phone itself (that I can find). I have been researching and can't seem to find a free program that can convert the video for me, either on my device or my computer.
I don't really want to buy expensive video editing software just to make a few slow motion videos. Is there some way that I'm not aware of?
Hello!
I would like to have the this in my LG G2 aswell...
If anyone could get this, it will be amazing...
I don't really like iPhones, but in this case I have to admit, this feature is great.
The stock video player has a play speed option. It'll let you go down to half speed, but I think that's as slow as it goes.

either convert it on the phone using androvid, or use some video editing apps on pc which can slow down the video and then save it
There's a modded apk available, download here:

[Q] Looking for help on DVD playback

I've tried VLC media player to rip some of my old movies I have, but I can't seem to find the ideal settings. I rip on the preset "Video for android sd high" but the movie still wont transfer over without my phone wanting to convert it again when I transfer. Then after it does, my 2 hour movie takes up 1.4 gb, and that seems to high. Any recommendations on a more efficient setting or maybe if I should transfer directly to the SD card and reinsert it into the phone? Thanks
Try a program called "Handbrake". I've used it rip my DVD collection and I set it to encode on a "universal" setting, ends up being in .m4v format and my phone plays it fine. I'd say that's a normal size (at least what I've experienced) for a 2 hour movie.

Why would movies downloaded onto my SD card for Flixster only be 700mb then? Are they somehow compressed?
I honestly couldn't tell you. I only have experience with that one program and don't know what flixster is.

I thought with handbrake you need to save a whole dvd to your pc with a different program and then use handbrake. I'd rather just use one program If possible

Not in my experience. Handbrake rips, saves, and converts all in one step.

I ended up getting dvd decrypter, and handbrake. That combo works even though I didn't want to get two programs but it's fine I guess as long as it does the job. Thanks
The whole process is pretty quick takes about 30 to 40 minutes for a whole movie. I'm happy with it

Not sure if this is even an issue here... your 1.4GB file for a 2 hour movie at 1080p sounds exactly right... The 700MB file you mentioned sounds right for the same movie in 720p... are you checking these files after loading them on your phone to see what resolution they are? I've never seen one of my movies at 1080p turn out smaller than 1.+GB... even recording with the camera for that long turns out that big at 1080p...

Good point but I was having issues even ripping with vlc. Handbrake works just fine and I don't think I need any better then 720 for now. Is handbrake capable of 1080?

Is there an option to download movies to your SD card with flixster? I can only stream movies, but can't download them to my card. Is it a setting that I need to enable?

Don't do the scan folder option. Choose the add then file then choose the file directly.
Orr....
Get the best BEST dvd / blu ray backup software I have ever used. It's called MAKEmkv. It's free while in beta. You can find the software key on their website that is good through jan.
Use this. You will thank me later.
Makes 100% lossless backups in mkv format. Then you can use handbrake to condense.

Thanks I like that you can select only certain items. This may be a dumb question but are all DVDs 720? I can't seem to find a setting higher then that.

You guys need to try DVD Fab. I paid for a lifetime license and can rip and convert anything I ever wanted to. In about any format you can think of. From Android to apple.

Yeah DVDS are 720 at best. Blue rays are 1080. You can upscale the dvds to 1080 but it's not really worth it. You would be better with just the 720 verison.

If you convert DVD of the VOB format to any other formats, the quality will be lossy. But if you just rip DVD to VOB format which if of the same format as DVD, the original video format will be kept maximally as there is no re-encoding process. Also some software allow you to convert DVD to HD format. I think the output quality will be good.

I've used DVD Catalyst forever (so its probably old technology). It lets you choose your device and optimizes it from there...

I am afraid that you need to get a professional DVD Ripper to deal with your movies. The blog I found on Google should be helpful to you.

How can i see my video in Gear VR

I followed the step online.
copied video to Sd card\Movies folder
But i still cannot see it!
Can anyone help me?
TIA
I used \occulus\Movie and that worked
I can't get movies to appear on the SD card either although it works fine using device storage.
There's a thread on the S7 Questions forum suggesting this is because the S7/Edge is using software from the S6 which of course doesn't have external storage. If so hopefully this will be fixed soon.

I couldn't play any either, but installed the free app, Gear VR Gallery, and now I can!

you mean you can see your own video now ?
I put it in my internal memory /oculus/movies them I could find it in oculus videos
For your own (downloaded) movies to work you need to create the right folder structure. I believe it is:
Oculus\movies\my videos\ (for standard movies)
Oculus\movies\my videos\3d\ (for 3d movies)

Seems Oculus have acknowledged the issue and are working a fix.
