i was wondering does anyones a500 charge via the USB lead from their PC?
i seem to recall my tablet charging from usb the first day i got it, but then i plugged in an AC usb charger from wall socket into the usb port.... and now it no longer charges from my PC.
am i imagining the inital charge via usb - pc? did it ever come with this capeability or does anyone else's work like that and ive most likely fried some usb- pc - to charge component.
if no ones elses does im thinking that the more powerful battery in the a500 compared to say a phone pc-usb charger, the pc cannot draw enough power through a usb port, seeing as they only provide 5 +/- 0.25 volts, unless on an externally powered hub.
A standard USB connection does not provide enough power to charge this device, perhaps you are mistaken in thinking it did the first time. USB 3.0 may have enough output but I have not tried (no 3.0 on any of my machines) and don't know if anyone else has.
Cheers

There's a little sticker on the side of the case that says "INPUT 12V DC 1.5A"
That should tell you all you need to know. No way is USB going to be able to provide that.

The problem is that most people ignore the 12V part and look only at the Amps. And think, can't we just charge slower. Not realizing what a jump 5V to 12V is, thus threads like this will keep popping up.

Well duh. USB 3 is still 5 volts, it's just the amps they increased, to 900mA, which still falls short of the 1.5A required.

Oh thats unfortunate
So I am at a friend's house for a few days. For some reason my phone charges really slow here. I am using a aftermarket charger that works well at my house.
I put it on the charger at 9:30pm with 22% and woke up around 3am with 81%. I have incredikernel so it should charge fast... What's wrong?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
depending on the charger it could output a very low voltage and making it take long to charge
Same charger works great at home.
Output: 4.5-9.5v

He shouldn't need to do that for 2 reasons. 1. Fast charge is only on for USB, not AC/wall charging. 2. His phone only went up 60% in about 6 hours. Even on the stock rom and stock kernel, a FULL charge shouldn't take more than 4 hours. There is something wrong with the charger/the outlet/your friend's house.
I usually turn mine off in the evening while i eat and shower and it rockets to 100% in about an hour or so.
Maybe if you have a good hour or so that you know you wont be able to be reached on the phone, you can try that out.

It does. His point was that the FastCharge feature only speeds up USB (and some car chargers). Wall charging was already "fast" and can't be made faster by that feature.

Stock battery 1,300mAh... divided by 4.... 325mA... yep - I agree: any charger/ROM/kernel combo should easily be able to achieve a charging current of 325mA
OP's battery only increased 59% in 5.5 hours. Assuming a stock battery, that would be a charge rate of less than 140mA. That is flat out awful.

Agreed.
If the problem continues at other locations, I'd look to the charger first, then the battery second.
If the problem is resolved by charging at a new location, then the friend has some messed up wiring.
Another thought: is there any chance that the outlet you were using was connected to a wall switch somewhere? My thought is that maybe you plugged it in, it was charging, and then someone flipped the wall switch at some point.
Do your battery stats confirm that it was actually charging all night?
Keep in mind guys it's not always a good thing for a lithium ion battery to charge too quickly

True, but no one here is talking about charging the phone in a few minutes. No one has even come close to mentioning dangerous charging speeds.
The charge rate of a typical consumer Li-ion battery is between 0.5 and 1C in Stage 1
Click to collapse
Source: http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries
So for a stock battery of 1,300mAh, a charge rate of 0.5-1C would be 650-1,300mA
The OP's observation of 59% in 5.5 hours would be a charge rate of 0.11C
So yes, it's true to say that charging a li-ion too quickly is dangerous. But in this particular conversation, it's a moot point.
The OEM charger doesn't even put out enough current to achieve a 1C charge rate, and every aftermarket charger I've ever tried has delivered less current than the OEM charger. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, just that it's not likely.

Are you sure? I swear I remember Chad saying something about Fastcharge not working if the USB cant handle the output (which is why FastCharge is disabled by default unless you enable manually or flash Chads FastCharge Boot Enable Zip DooHickey). I would just ask him yourself, he's pretty responsive to the users of Incredikernal.
Hope this helps

Not sure what you're trying to say. I already addressed the fast charge issue in this thread.
TheWhiteBandito is correct: fast charge does not affect wall charging speed.
Yes, Chad is very responsive, but why bother asking him something that he has repeatedly explained on the forums and on his own site?

This adds fast charging over USB to a stable release along with some potential performance enhancements.
Fast charging while the phone is detected as connected to USB is turned off by default.

GatorsUF,
So what was the ultimate root cause?
I'm not sure why you do this, Gator. It's not the first time. You ask for help, people offer what they can, and then you never say anything again. Is the problem resolved? We don't know. Did anyone in here offer you help? We don't know. Did you learn anything? Try anything? Even read half of the responses? We don't know.
Not only does this decrease the overall usefulness of the thread (since people have no idea whether the issue was resolved), but it discourages people from offering you help in the future.
"Oh look, Gator's got another problem. Eh.... I would respond... but that guy never even gets back to his own threads. I'll save my breath and move on to another topic."
Sorry
I am pretty certain it has to do with the power at the house. Not sure but I do know from working as an electrician that peoples household outlets are typically anywhere from 108v to 125v, maybe her house was on the lower end...
I had the same problem with the same charger at a hotels as well. However I am using it at home now and it charges like a champ at my house.
Could you please point out threads where I didn't respond with my result in the past, I will gladly fix those. However most of the thread I am finding include my eventual result. There is even a thread where I asked a question then made fun of myself and posted the lmgtfy.com link in the next reply, in turn giving anyone with a similar problem the answer I found.

So I have my phone on a dock and connected to my PC via USB to keep it charged and I like to keep the screen on whilst doing this. Are there any downsides to this? Does it wear the battery down at all? (1) With the screen always on the battery doesn't really charge, just sits on the same % which I don't mind so much but want to make sure it's safe to leave it like that regularly.
When the screen is off how quickly should the phone charge via USB? (2) It still seems to be pretty slow, I understand it wouldn't be as quick as the power adapter of course. I have an ASUS motherboard and there is supposed to be a USB Charger Plus Driver from ASUS which I believe gives more power to a certain port you can use which should charge it quicker if supported, would that be safe for the battery? (3)
I've numbered each question (1-3) so should be easier to answer, thanks for any help!

Yes, It will downgrade your battery.
Don't always leave your display on. Like we also needs a 6-7 hours sleep after long any hectic routine same is with phone.
Some manufacturer's have specially built an USB 3.0 port for the charging purpose, so you can use that.

That's a sign of a bad battery or a problem with the charger or USB cable. If you have any old chargers and jab cables lying around (even if not QC3.0) try one of them. If that still doesn't fix it, then you have a defective battery.

I stated I knew someone with the issue and you are saying that that batteries are bad..shrug... It's a software issue that has come up on other devices besides the V20.
This has really been bothering me.. The phone when plugged in takes HOURS to charge suddenly.. i'm using OEM charger and cable for the device and its only charging at 10-200mA, "Ampere" shows it in USB charger instead of AC charger when plugged into the power brick, If i unplug and plug in multiple times(into the power brick) it detects AC charger but doesn't charge past 200mA... I tried a different cable and brick but its the same issue.. If i unplug and plug in again it detects as AC again but still SLOW charge.. And plugging into a powerbank, It never gains any % just stays at the same HELP....

I would try new battery, factory reset is last option for your situation. I think you literally need s V20 one though.
I agree with Mysticblaze347. If the USB port and the battery contacts are clean, and you already checked different wall chargers and cables, then something's most likely wrong with the battery. You might as well consider getting one of the newer Lithium polymer batteries such as the ones from Perfine, Shenmz/AexPower, Taeozi, or Maxxxjuice. They are the same size as the OEM battery but actually have a higher capacity.

Well, i found a temporary solution.. Threw the battery in the freezer, My old phone needed that sometimes when the battery drained too fast, It unfortunately didn't solve the issue.. BUT I put the entire phone in the freezer ON for about 30 mins and it was fast charging again and getting 1800mA for two days straight.. Today the same issue has happened again.

Sorry to hear that. Seems like your phone has some hardware issue where the charge doesn't fully flow from the USB port to the battery.

It's certainly possible. But if cleaning the USB port doesn't solve your problem, then it may not be an easy fix because I heard that the port is soldered onto the board.
