Picked up the G2 on AT&t on Friday, but I'm thinking about returning it and waiting for the Note III.
I've already rooted the phone using the method on this forum...do I need to unroot before returning it?

It's probably worth it, shouldn't restoring factory defaults clear root?

I just restored factory defaults. How do I tell if the phone is no longer rooted?

If you rooted and have chainfire superuser, it has an option to unroot. After that just delete superuser. If the phone keeps binary count, use Triangle away to reset the binary before you unroot.

Why r u returning it and waiting for N3 just wondering cuz I have ordered the G2 and it hasn't shipped yet and I'm constantly thinking about N3. I really don't want to over kill it and order both...

I had thought about the N3 too, but the G2 is JUST small enough for me to be one handed...the N3 is gonna be a 2 hander which would just annoy me.

Hey guys any advice on what to do first?
Root or not root? Custom ROM or stock?
or just any suggestions in general?
Ballistics case should be here next week too.
Thnx

Immediately unlock bootloader so you don't have to wipe all your stuff when you finally decide to root, or flash a custom ROM. At least I wish I did.

I was a little unsure at first whether out not I would miss my s3. Six weeks later I don't.

Stock. Unless you are a flash junkie, stock is amazing. CM10 is nice I'm sure, but stock just plain works and is fast as hell. I'm still stock on n7 even. Google knows what they are doing (for the most part)

Thanks guys, I'm really loving phone.
I was thinking of keeping it stock, just like my N7, but definitely I'm going to follow your advice and unlock bootloader, I know I'm not gonna stay too long without root for sure.
Thnx again!
So yesterday evening I sent in my Nexus 4 to get a replacement due to my battery dying on me out of no where. The phone was rooted with aokp installed. I tried everything to try and boot it up and get it into fast boot to unroot but there was no luck there. So my question is have any nexus 4 owners that have had to get an RMA send there's in rooted? If so was Google able to get your phone up therefore causing you to pay for the replacement?

every device that ive ever sent back to google to get rma'd has been bootloader unlocked, root, custom rom/kernel. never a problem. last one was my nexus 7, stopped charging. generally, if its hardware related, theyll take care of it.

It's a Nexus..
I highly doubt Google will notice or care.. :good:
I don't see you having an issue it's a hardware fault.

At least 1 person has already been denied RMA because they unlocked the bootloader, so they care.

I find that rather odd... I wonder if there was more to the story..
In the past I have sent Google unlocked, rooted, and custom ROM'd Nexus 7, a Galaxy Nexus, and a Nexus 10...
Never heard a peep from them..

I can't find the thread (guy probably deleted it) but basically the guy told the rep he unlocked the phone and he was then referred to some other department that then denied his RMA.

Say that I got approved for a RMA and when they receive my phone they don't spot any problem? Will I need to pay the full price of the new phone they send to me?

Has anyone had to return a phone to Asurion that was rooted and they not accept it? Glass was OK but inside cracked and would not light up so could not unroot before sending. Did they try to charge more than the deductible after receiving the phone?
Thanks
Did you try what I told you to do? Hook up the mhl cable to a monitor so you could see the phone screen to triangle away and unroot. I guess not.

Thanks but you had to have told that to someone else. I should have thought of that. I don't know if they will. I just have not heard anything from them so far. It should make no difference to them. It being rooted has no bearing on the problem.
I've sent a lot of phones in for various reasons (clumsy) that were rooted and I have not encountered a problem.

Thanks that make me feel better. First time I have ever had to send one. Also first time I have rooted one.
They could care less.
You are paying them so if they did question it I would argue with them. You are right about not telling you about the mhl thing. Someone about a week ago posted the exact same thing. Lol.

The strangest thing is starting to happen a few times to me. When i have removed the battery from my phone while it has been on i get a unlock symbol with custom above it. I have not done anything to the phone it is all stock but i was wondering what this could be. I will attach a picture

Lol only other possible explanation is that someone from the store messed around with it.

We'll I was hoping to get a dev to look at the system dump and see what they find.
It's probably some app you have installed. Don't panic. Restart the phone 5 or 6 times and see if it still appears..if it does it may just be an app messing with it. Definitely nothing to worry about unless it just annoys you.
last time i tried it I almost bricked my phone becuase of some locked bootstraper thing on MK2. Is there a way to do it now?
Please note im a huge noob with this all

You should have been around here during the loki days, then you could run any rom you want on your S4.

I asked the same Q in the forums "Android" and people heavily prefer the Nexus 5. I may sell my new S4. Get a Moto G then get the S5 but unlocking the S5 bootloader won't be any easier for awhile so I'm likely getting a Nexus 5 soon. My 2 cents.

You could always order an unlocked i337M (Canadian) online or something. Our S4s don't have locked bootloaders. (at least not yet..)
Kitkat on S4 SGH-i337
You can get the 4.4 kitkat on your phone by flashing the leaked version for the at&t S4. I have the same model phone and have flashed the leaked update so far no real big issues. I think if you were to wait another 3 weeks or so the official update will probably hit our phones in that time frame.:good:
Buy a kitkat bar, make sure its nice n warm.
Rub gently all over the device.
Now its a kitkat device
Or you can flash it and end up with a device on kitkat with a locked bootloader or bricked if you're on safestrap
