Hey guys any advice on what to do first?
Root or not root? Custom ROM or stock?
or just any suggestions in general?
Ballistics case should be here next week too.
Thnx

Immediately unlock bootloader so you don't have to wipe all your stuff when you finally decide to root, or flash a custom ROM. At least I wish I did.

Stock. Unless you are a flash junkie, stock is amazing. CM10 is nice I'm sure, but stock just plain works and is fast as hell. I'm still stock on n7 even. Google knows what they are doing (for the most part)

Thanks guys, I'm really loving phone.
I was thinking of keeping it stock, just like my N7, but definitely I'm going to follow your advice and unlock bootloader, I know I'm not gonna stay too long without root for sure.
Thnx again!

I have been plugging away on my GS3 with CM10 and loving it. Really want the N7 but will going from 4.8 to 7 inch screen significantly improve the experience enough to justify two devices?

I have an Infuse with a 4.5 and it looks small in comparison, of course I have been using a Nook Color for a tab so I knew what I getting into with the 7". Using the keyboard in landscape mode is great!!!!!
As somebody who owns a GS3 I feel it was totally worth the buy. I primarily use my phone when I'm on the go. When I get home it is all Nexus 7 for me. The bigger screen makes it much easier to browse the internet with.

I was wondering the same thing. I have my GS3 running AOKP, which I love...but this tablet looked perfect. I have a 10" HP, which was a bit too big to be comfortable in bed and typing on it sucked. This tablet is perfect for me...and I just flashed AOKP!! Bought it today so I am still in love with it. I didn't think I was going to keep it...but I was very wrong. Go for it bro!!
Just in case you do need further reassurance, I also have a sgs3 as well as a Nexus 7. My phone is for on the go, and my tablet is more for gaming like asphalt 7 and such.

I haven't used my phone all night, other than to respond to text messages. This pad is perfect. I could not be happier. Worst case buy o e and try it out. You could always return it. I had almost every I intention of doing that since this was not in my budget...but its that good that I'm keeping it.

Yeah, I see at least 2 cm10 nightlies and a couple more based on cm10. Not sure what he's on about.
you'll be glad you got it. I keep my phone in my pocket all the time and have it Bluetooth tethering my n7. I use my tab to text, make calls, etc. Very rarely do I ever use my phone anymore.

I don't get it, when we have an HTC or Samsung phone, we go to great measures to remove the stock Ui and only dream to have a pure android experience on it.
This is exactly what we have here. A pure android experience. Not sure what you're looking for when you look for a custom rom on the N7?

Well you can always give it to me. Lol.
Why don't you play with it for a few days and see how it is. After that you can decide if you want to root it and install Roms and kernels on to it. You dont have to root it but it's nice to know you can. If you want to enjoy your phone with the freedom to install customizable Roms and kernels, then go for it. There are several great kernels like motley and Franco. Both offer performance and outstanding battery life. We also have great Roms like Paranoidandroid and Cyangenmod 10.1.
So anyways, play with it for a while and then decide what you want. No need to rush.

I personally think that if you have to ask that question then you're safer not rooting and just leaving it as it is. As someone said, it's near perfect when stock.

I don't know about screen protectors but the case which I'm waiting for is the Rearth Ringke Fusion case, it's not the most protective but it looks great and prevents scratches to the back glass. As for the features of 4.2, just Google them and I'm sure you'll find tonnes of info.
Regardless of whether or not you intend to root this phone you should consider unlocking the bootloader. If you decide to root later on and haven't done so, all your data will be wiped and you'll be forced to start again from scratch.
Having said that, this is one of the few devices where there is little reason to root. You do get some added functionality from stuff like CyanogenMod and AOKP though.

I am using a stock, non-rooted N7 and I haven't gotten the 4.3 update! I am getting a bit irritated. No matter how many times I click check update, 4.2.2 is the 'Up To Date' OS! Is there a way to force the update without having to just flash the new ROM? I don't want to take the time to root it just to get new software I SHOULD be getting soon anyways. Also, if it makes a difference, as I know some updates roll out based on region, I am in the mid USA

I updated my RAZR m to the latest release from Verizon, and since I had not unlocked my bootloader yet, I know I cannot unlock it at the moment. Even if I rsd to the original 4.1.2 I still will be unable to unlock, correct?
Is there any work being done on a new unlock? I'm relatively happy with stock for now, but once cm10.x is more stable, and motors stops updating the RAZR m, I'd like to be able to flash something cool.
Thanks,

Yeah, here's your news; the new update blocked the ability to unlock. You can't unlock, even if you downgrade, but you can still root. The unlock exploit came out in April and people were told to do it, before it was locked up. Dan also said he probably won't ever run another exploit. You can root and use SafeStrap to run older SS compatible ROMs. You're SOL for the AOSP stuff, though. Don't say you weren't warned.

If your on Verizon and got the phone through Verizon do what I did before the time runs out... call them request a replacement device go through all the trouble shooting for your "issue"( I said the ear piece speaker intermittently goes out, yet works on speakerphone thus indicating its hardware related) after trouble shooting and problems still occur you get the green light for a replacement. request that they make a note to the warehouse to send you one without the update (I said because the new update caused data drops that didn't happen prior to update)... I hated having to give up my brand new device for a "like new" one but its better then having a locked device... the CSR in the chat said all devices in the warehouse will be updated 2-3 weeks after the update push so... act fast you may still have time left... if you get one with the update call them tell them your phone is working fine now and send the replacement back... or say something like the replacement is defective and again request a note to the warehouse... where there's a will there's a way....good luck

Not feeling like doing that. And i am not a Verizon user, I am with T-Mobile on the RDS/RadioComm Mod.
So I am just gonna suck it up and use it on stock, nothing wrong with it it works i like it. (Bugs me a little bit that i f up =( )
Next phone will be a stock Unlocked Phone so i don't have to worry about this, Been eyeing the HTC one Mini.
Or the Razr I. We will see... too many projects at the moment not enough money to buy a new phone.
