[Q] Any way to edit the slide up ring? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Like the title says, any way of modifying what the shortcuts are or any settings regarding the slide up ring?

+1. I hate Voice Mate. It doesn't work half the time.

It's one of the few flaws I have found. I'd love to ditch the "VoiceMate" for Google Voice search and the LG Memo over to Keep.

I would also like to know. I think I've already searched all the settings for that. found nothing to edit the ring

Ditto to this. Exactly what I want to configure.

I just checked and I don't see any Xposed modules to edit this either... would be very useful! Also, have any of you changed your lcd density? For me it made the ring off center, and I wanted to see if anyone else had this behavior. I changed my density to 320.

The standard Dialer is driving me MAD

Opening the phone interface there are a number of numbers visible that I've recently dialed.
Some numbers even show what type of number (car, mobile, home work) was dialed by using "<c>" as in indicator.
Intuitive I press and hold one of the last dialed numbers, hoping for an option menu, but nothing happens, only to have this number dialed on release.
This must be a nuiscance to more people than just me.
Is there a solution, or even a better dialer program, so I can exchange this one?
you know how the <txt> or w/e is surrounded by left/right arrows/brackets (<>)? That's to indicate you can swipe your finger (left or right) to cycle through the different options (much better and easier implementation than 'holding' down for the change I think).
Hope it helps
I agree. the standard dialer drove me mad as well. Almost returned the device.
It was especially annoying, because I borrowed a WiMo from a friend first, and I liked the dialer.
The solution: Disable the phone skin, go back to the WiMo dailer.
Many utilities can do this, amoung others: Advanced Config V3.3, HD Tweak, etc. Just disable the phone skin.

just in case: the wm6.1 standard dialer makes you lose the bt status icon in the top bar as well as the in-call volume-control! (but there is a somewhere a thread with a cab to fix that last issue)

Are you sure? Because I they are both still working for me, and I do not recall having to fix it?
The only thing that is missing for me is Video-Calling, though it can still be done from the menu.

strange... for me these two things are the side-effect of going back to the wm6.1 standard dialer, and other users (in another post somewhere) have confirmed that... so just feel lucky that that did't happen to you (but you are sure that you don't have these issues? when bluetooth is switched on, you still get an icon in the top bar, and when you make a call, you can change the volume of the 'person on the other side' with the volume keys (not system or ring volume)?)... so, just feel lucky, no idea why some people have it, some people don't... it's just a warning, but worth a try anyway, as the setting can easily be changed back....
regards jan
In retrospect, you are probably right.
I do have a "bluetooth" icon in my WiMo dialer, but it is in fact my headset icon, probably not the icon you refer to. And in fact, the headset is the one I want, so I do not care about any more base-bluetooth icon
And I rarely set set the volume, but when, I do that by the via the headset also, which also works....

Remap Softkeys?

Is it possible to remap our softkeys? I tried following directions I found on Hero and it didnt work. Was wondering if anyone was able to change lets say, the Search button to launch the Camera.

What happens when you LONG press your search button? Mine comes up with 3 different options from various apps i have installed, including voice search. So I would say yes, its def possible.
Handcent
Quick Settings
Voice Search
All 3 of those show up when you long press the search key. So I'm sure you can have it launch the camera, just have to know how to develop it
I wonder if it can maybe be altered with BetterCut.

[Q] Screen Sensitivity & snooze control

1. I find the screen to be far too sensitive. A brush of the thumb is enough to place an unintentional telephone call. I installed Auto Config sensitivity to the lowest level and finger pressure to the highest, but it really hasn't helped. Perhaps the solution is to deactivate the soft "phone" button directly under the Home icon. Just to gripe about it, it seems a dumb place to put that button. Is there some way of turning that button off? Or in fact, increasing the pressure require to activate the screen?
2. The reminders are under the control of the pre-loaded and pathetic calendar program. As a result "snoozes" are limited to 5 minutes. I bought and installed Thumbcal -- a worthy program -- but there doesn't seem to be anyway of making it the default calender. Maybe I overlooked a switch. Can anyone help?
Thanks
1. use AE Button plus to unbind the send end keys. This will solve your problem.
I also use vangrieg in call lock so that you only slide to answer. Follow the steps in the following link regarding important note to HD2 users. HD Mini users will need to follow that too.

Thank you. The case of the accidental phone call has been solved. It took me a while to figure out but it was $8 well spent.

Once again my thanks. You are obviously well versed in customizing these phones.

You are correct. HTC calendar is really pathetic. It's included in the phone only for eye-candy purposes. No real value or function to it.
ThumbCal is a really great choice of a replacement calendar app. But it won't work from the calendar link of the homescreen. The homescreen calendar link is a real weirdo. It links to 3rd-party calendar app only when you have no appointment for today. So forget about that. (Actually, almost all of the whole homescreen graphics and links are useless. An unnecessary waste of screen real estate).
What you can do is to position ThumbCal icon somewhere up in the first few icons of WinMo menu. That way, you can access ThumbCal from anywhere. Just press the "Windows" button (center button on the lower edge of the phone), and you get to ThumbCal app anytime anywhere.
Another way is to use BSB Tweaks to reconfigure the left softkey of Sense UI, and change it from the default "Phone" to "ThumbCal".
Now, for the "snooze" problem. Again, use BSB Tweaks to modify windows notifications. Enable dismiss X time in notifications. This will revert the notifications back to the normal WinMo style. With a menu choice of snooze duration to choose from.
Thanks for the suggestion. I added thumbcal on the quicklinks, but your suggestion is just as efficient. The BsB tweal was already suggested. I implemented and works just fine.
Both are good ideas.

[Q] Gesture Trace on ICS?

In zips creamed glacier rom (all versions)
when you go to the settings option for the messaging app
there is an option to show gesture trace then the sensitivity right under it
so i enable it and go back to messaging and it shows a yellow line when you swipe your finger where the messages appear.
does anyone know how we can set certain gestures do have certain functions?
or what the heck its used for
i know some devices and tabs have gestures but thats on apps and the home screen where you make a circle and it takes you to music app or something
but this is only in the messaging app.
any info would help
guess no one knows then?
ffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
me too
I have a similar problem after flashing my ATT Captivate to Serenddipity 7. When I use the text messaging app a yellow line appears wherever I slide my finger. It goes away after a few seconds. Is it related to the Swype keyboard settings?
edit: found it, messaging app has setting for gesture trace....uncheck this. Problem goes away.

its not a PRoblem for me i just want to know what it is used for.
im thinking maybe you can circle an object then while keeping your finger down on the screen draw a letting representing what you want to do with the circled object or word.
but that doesnt work i don't know how to set it up.
its unchecked by default. i checked the box to get the feature but i dont know how to use it.
my question was what is it used for

As I explained in that thread to another user, the gestures are used to call upon premade message templates. You can set up those in the same Message app settings.
I searched and your thread came up and it seems you didn't found an answer either.

Customising the Google Now shortcut menu?

So you know how when you hold down on the home button and that semi-circle menu appears with Google Now....is there any way of adding your own shortcuts to that because it seems like you should be able to, and they've missed a trick if that feature isn't included. Anyone know?

As far as I can find, there is no such capability. I think the "ring" only shows up as a visual cue to tell you to slide up to activate GNow.
check out some custom roms and you can change the ring, but as far as I know there aren't any apps that would do it on a stock nexus
I wish they had added this, why wouldn't they?
Google make some ridiculous decisions.....
