when you go to the settings option for the messaging app
there is an option to show gesture trace then the sensitivity right under it
so i enable it and go back to messaging and it shows a yellow line when you swipe your finger where the messages appear.
does anyone know how we can set certain gestures do have certain functions?
or what the heck its used for
i know some devices and tabs have gestures but thats on apps and the home screen where you make a circle and it takes you to music app or something
but this is only in the messaging app.
any info would help
guess no one knows then?
ffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
me too
I have a similar problem after flashing my ATT Captivate to Serenddipity 7. When I use the text messaging app a yellow line appears wherever I slide my finger. It goes away after a few seconds. Is it related to the Swype keyboard settings?
edit: found it, messaging app has setting for gesture trace....uncheck this. Problem goes away.

its not a PRoblem for me i just want to know what it is used for.
im thinking maybe you can circle an object then while keeping your finger down on the screen draw a letting representing what you want to do with the circled object or word.
but that doesnt work i don't know how to set it up.
its unchecked by default. i checked the box to get the feature but i dont know how to use it.
my question was what is it used for
same question. searching online turned up nothing X_X

As I explained in that thread to another user, the gestures are used to call upon premade message templates. You can set up those in the same Message app settings.
I searched and your thread came up and it seems you didn't found an answer either.

How To Get Rid of The Black Autocomplete Box When Using Hardware Keyboard
To Hide the Autocomplete Box:
1. Type as Normal Until Words Start Appearing
2. Press Menu Button Twice
3. Autocomplete should hide itself
To Bring the Autcomplete Box Back:
1. Press the text field once
2. Should Pop Back up once you start typing
Super thanks to the1wingedangel for figuring it out!

But does anyone know how to get rid of the black word suggestions that pop up underneath the text entry box when your using the full keyboard on the G1? I for the life of my can not figure out what auto correct option to uncheck. The worst part is that its really unpredictable and might show up 1 out of 10 times i start typing with the keyboard.
Thanks guys : )
EDIT: ooops sorry. Over looked the word 'full'
Good question...that started showing up randomly for me a couple of days ago.
Double tapping the text box while your keyboard is open should get rid of it from showing up again.
Hmm good idea uber, will give it a shot next time the thing pops up and let you know how it works out.
That annoyed the hell out of me so much i switched roms. It would auto-replace words that I didn't want replaced.
Alright so I tried the double tap thing and no luck on that front. Didn't work out for me. Anyone else try that fix out?
And I know what you mean CBowley. It might just take a .lib deletion or something to fix tho. Heres to hoping that something comes up : )

Make sure you're doing it before you type anything in the box or it's locked to the ON position. I've done it a few times on my phone right here and it's working like clockwork. :-/
Ah I see so are you saying to double tap before I enter anything in the textbox ever? The problem is that it will show up completely random times like 1 in 10 or something. But I'll try double tapping before entering anything in the field and see if that keeps it at bay.
To turn off auto complete and auto correct:
Menu->settiings->Locale & Text->Touch Input (or whatever KB u r using)->Text Input
From here you can turn on/off all KB/typing features.

Thanks maubig, but those settings don't help change the autocompletion for the full keyboard. VK isn't giving me the problem.
Ok, I seem to have figured out how to kill that annoying text suggestion pop up when using the hardware keyboard. When it pops up, double click menu button. To re-activate it, touch the text box once, then start typing. Seems to work.

Excellent Angel! That worked perfect for me. Did the trick exactly like you said it would. Lets see if it works for other people too. Time to change thread title. Thanks : )
Thanks for this... I despised that stupid black suggestion box.
Well, I found an interesting feature built into the messaging application. I searched for another thread about this but being that it's hard to summarize, I didn't find one so hopefully this isn't a repost!
If you type a word in the default messaging application (not sure if it works in others) and it is mis-spelled, the correction bar opens up (assuming you have it turned on in the configuration options). If you do a long press on this (press and hold), you can actually move the bar to your liking. By default, mine was slightly overlapping the send button so I moved mine up a tad.
Give it a try, let me know your thoughts!
EDIT: Hmm, it doesn't seem to save the relocated setting (I'm using Modaco's 2.0 build)
No, it never did remember the position.
Useful to know never the less
cheers.
After installing the update from TMO, The little bar that flips between mail, home, internet, images, music, etc. "shrinks" into a little black tab in the middle of my screen at the bottom.
This is super super annoying because it takes an extra effort to click on the damn thing and then slide my finger to scroll. This also requires a second tap on the screen when i go to browser because the first one simply 'collapses' the little thing and the second one will actually respond to the internet icon you're tapping on.
Tell me there's a way to turn off the collapse of this stupid thing. I tried looking on here but I don't know what keywords to use to search this out. Something like 'htc sense update hd2 registry change' yields nothing.
TIA

It sounds to me like you have cookies home tab enabled?! That is strange are you sure you didn't flash to a custom rom?! I have that one my phone and I have the update but the only way I was able to get that was with CHT. I have attached examples.
Yep! I do have cookies home tab installed! Dang..so is the setting in that to change it? :bangs head:
I'll take a look.
WTHAT A MORON. Thats its. The 'retractable slider' setting. I can't believe I didn't realize that was cookie and not HTC.
Thanks a million for pushing me in the right direction.
Awesome! Glad I could help! I had that enable for a while but it became a little annoying so I took it off! Hahahaha it does make it look really cool!
Hey, thanks for the info. I'm glad I learned about that.
I also have Cookies, and didn't know about that.
Now I have just enabled that feature. Why? I don't find that "ribbon" at the bottom very useful, as it is not very customizable. Nice to have the settings button there at the right, but one can also do that with a Quick Link. I like the music app, but one can also do a quick link for that. Withouth that ribbon, there is room for another row of quick links. (I find it unfortunate that that "ribbon" is so uncustomizable. You cannot choose what is in it, but only what to remove (other than settings and home). (I don't really need that home icon either, because there is a hardware button for home.) I don't like how that "People" tab goes to "HTC People". I'd rather go straight to the regular contacts list. But it can't be changed (AFAIK), only removed.
So by retracting it, I remove the whole thing (can slide it back if I want), but can put the links I like in that ribbon into quick links, for which there is now more room.
Thank you.
I looked around but didn't find anything, although that doesn't mean anything.
My question is that when holding the home button, you get a whole semi circle, but just giogke now or whatever that silly thing is. Is there a way of adding programs or shortcuts to this popup. I have zero use for the Google thing so seems a shame if I am unable to add more useful items to this semi circle. Could prove pretty useful.

I haven't seen anywhere you can add to that or change it. I love the google now thing, just to be able to tell it to wake me up in an hour if nothing else:laugh:
Try this app if you haven't already though, it will let you launch an app just by sliding in from the side of the screen, or bottom, or whereever you want.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.conduction.swipepad.android&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsIm1vYmkuY29uZHVjdGlvbi5zd2lwZXBhZC5hbmRyb2lkIl0.
Instead of launching Google Now you could get get an app launch list using 'Launch Now', which replaces default behavior. Just serach for it in PlayStore, as I may not insert links (10 posts rule)....
There's a way for people who want to hook into the swipe up action that may not be documented. Apps like "Sudo Quicklaunch" make the system switch the icon to a generic search icon and show you the standard action completion pop-up. (One can see this in the app's promotional video.) I haven't personally tested that app, but I have seen the swipe up reassignment behavior with "Secure Settings." The Secure Settings app actually changes the icon displayed by the swipe up menu, when you tell it to "Always" use that app, and Google Search does the same thing. Coincidentally, the same reassignment behavior appears to be possible with the shop icon in the stock launcher. (I saw it for myself in the days of Honeycomb with the transition from the original Honeycomb Market app to the new, unified Market app, because both were installed, it asked me to choose when I tapped shop.)
I I have looked all over for an app to do this but have found nothing. I am ready to start writing my own, but want to make sure it doesn't exist already? Seems hard to believe no one has done this yet!?
say i need to copy/paste listing descriptions from evernote into ebay... I want a QUICK trigger, maybe double tapping home or something that shows a simple app list in a transparent overlay.
Pick the ebay app and it loads. After pasting the title there, double tap home again and instantly, it flips back to Evernote where I can repeat this process with the description and other fields. Maybe the volume key could flip between the two apps, or better yet, a swipe.
Seeing how I use that technique a million times a day, it would save countless hours over all the other task manager types that always load a display of all (or none) of the recent apps when triggered. I don't know about everybody else, but there's a 90% chance that if I want to quickly flip to another app, it's because I intend to quickly flip right back in a few seconds.
This is such a vital function for me on computers that I dedicate a whole button on my mouse to pressing Alt+Tab so I can flip back and forth very fast. I have become very spoiled by that technique and can't stand doing work on Android just because of its annoyingly slow and painful "task manager" if you can even call it that. TIA!

I am sorry, but you cannot override the home button.
You could try one of the various side bar apps though.
It could be a swipe gesture or anything that requires only ONE step. I don't want to bring up an app selection list on every switch, but just the first time. Maybe a notification bar button could bring up the selector, then a side swipe gesture could flip back and forth between the two apps? It should be simple to write this. I just cant believe that it hasn't already been done? Surely someone knows of an existing app?

The problem is that the part of the screen which will be "swipeable" will not react to touch events anymore.

Yeah. But it could be a small invisible hotzone like many of the task managers do. Swiping is just for the cool factor really. Using the volume button should work just fine for my needs. Would that work? The volume button can still listen to an app thats not in focus because music players do it right? But i guess that would be a problem if one of the switched apps overrides the volume control...? Any suggestions? If nobody has pointed out an existing app with this capability I will start on it tonight. I'm still a newb to Android but, I am majoring in programming so I gotta jump in on something!

if I understand correctly you just want to have multitasking without having to hit the multitask button and then choose the app; you just want to be able to choose the app. I would say something like floating folders would work for you.
