The stock keyboard has emoji on it. Hit the symbols button in bottom left, then smiley button on the bottom and it takes you to the emojis

damn if only swiftkey had that
Upgrading from a N4 is seeming easier and easier each passing day... ?
only issue I've had was with Google Voice.. I can send emoji's just fine, but receiving them they appear as diamond question marks. Strange - but probably just an issue with Google Voice.

Does anyone know what happened to the actual android heads? I used to use google keyboard along with wnn keyboard. Now wnn keyboard doesn't have the android faces.

It seems like it is only through the stock keyboard. I installed the Google keyboard as I think it is better at gesture typing, and installed the Emoji Add-on Dictionary, but can't seem to be able to add them anymore. On my Rezound with the Google keyboard, You could hit menu in the text box and choose Insert Emoji, but I don't have that option on my G2.
Interestingly, to me anyway, is that when I send teh stock LG emojis from the stock LG keyboard to a friend who uses Handcent he can see them, but when he sends them to me I can't see his. I just get something akin to ASCII code in place of the image. Seems there is more than one emoji standard...

I've noticed the same thing. Did you try disabling Google Voice to see if that fixes it? If not, I'll probably give it a try.

You have to disable Google Voice integration if you're on Sprint, otherwise only a handful of Emoji's will work.

I know there are many keyboard topics, but I just can't find a one that works well on my Play.
-Smart Keyboard (Trial)
*Best keyboard for my needs, but it seriously slows the phone down after a day or two. As soon as I uninstall, everything starts working perfectly again.
-Stock Xperia Play
*Terrible. Doesn't remember contractions and doesn't have the mic button.
-Keyboard from Android 2.3 (free)
*Okay, but has a stupid emoticons symbol where the 'Enter' button should be during sms composition. I dislike the way it handles punctuation after typing out words.
I'm honestly starting to hate this phone because it's such a pain to enter data, no matter what I try. Never had issues on my old iPhone.
What is everyone using? And no, I don't want to use swype.
Thanks!

I use this one. Never noticed before about the emoticons button instead of enter until you mentioned it.
Doesnt bother me though. I dont see a reason to use enter for sms anyway. If you are going to write a novel, make an email

Did you know that you dont have to swype your finger to type? You can also just type normally without having to change anything. Even normal typing is much better using swype than the stock keyboard. First few days swype pissed me off but now i swear by it

That is useless. It replaces words such as 'at' after you have typed them and pressed space with ones like 'or' or 'now' it's crazy!
This option is not in US phones has something to do with apples law suit against Samsung for autocorrect. I use swiftkey because of this, works great.

Used to swear by the stock Google AOSP keyboard, couldn't get used to Swiftkey at first but after 2 weeks of using it, I love it.
Having fooled around with a friend's Moto X, I must say the "Okay Google Now" functionality is really cool. These Note 3s obviously have the hardware necessary to implement it, but Samsung went with the half-assed "hi galaxy" thing instead. Now that root has been achieved! I am hoping there is some way to replace the stock function with the one from the moto x. Anybody know how, other than the Open Mic+ app, which seems to not function the same, as it is a major battery hog.
Yes this x10000000000
I've been looking for an app or something that changes, the function of Hi, galaxy. Even If I said "Hi, galaxy" and it triggered Google Now

btw if you guys are ONLY looking for the double click to google now functionality, try home2 shortcut, doesn't require root either, I use it and I put it on my customers phones (who won't root obv)
For the moment my workaround is to say "Hi Galaxy, Open Google Search". Then "Google, who is the president of the United States?", or whatever your Google Now need is.
But hopefully we can get something that works a little more flawlessly.
I would also like to show my interest in this! Changing the hot word would be amazing, but "Hi Galaxy" opening up into Google Now listening mode would be enough for me!
Edit: I have not had time to set up tasker.. Has anyone used the "when voice opens, close it, and open Google Now" work around? How was the experience?

I feel like it would be way too slow, but I have tasker, I'll try to set it up later today.
I have this working with the Tasker workaround, and while it takes about 3 seconds to start listening, I love the results! Heads up though, If I enabled the wake up command option on S-Voice, Voice Search would have trouble opening the mic. Make sure to turn this option off. FYI this is the one that allows hot word detection while in the S-Voice app, not the always listening option.

I would LOVE this functionality, S-voice STINKS! - its super slow, the voice sucks, and the results stink too.
What it DOES to very well is wake up from sleep.
I would love to see if we can get some Devs involved to make "hi galaxy" open up google now search, or even change the keyword
to "ok Google" just like the the Moto x.
Would you guys be interested in starting a bounty for this functionality?
Im willing to throw a few bucks in the pot.

i would for sure.
I'm not sure, but if you install the new Kit Kat 4.4 Google Launcher, you can use Ok Google and it works pretty well.
Just a couple of things though. It only works when you are on your launcher screen and as of now, you need to be rooted (you need to replace a system file that is listed on page 3, the libgoogle_recognizer)
Just check out the thread on Installing the new google launcher.

I have tried the Kitkat Launcher. after being a hardcore pure AOSP android guy for almost 4 years
I ended up right back with touchwiz launcher. I actually like it MUCH better. The Kitkat launcher is
just too plain and lacks basic functionality like limits on icons in folders.. seriously?
Stock touchwiz launcher with "Hi Galaxy" to wake up from sleep directly and instantly go to Google voice search is the way
to go.

If youre not a fan of the stock messaging app(like me) simply download Textra SMS from the playstore, which is far better in my opinion, and also Textra SMS emoji plugin and voila! you have all ios emojis! just go to the "+" symbol next to the input box and click the smiley at the bottom. See attached screenshot.
Can't stand the stock Android Emoji's
I use Textra so on texts it's fine, but Samsung would allow Textra to override the look while in the app using the keyboard but the V20 doesn't
Might be tied to the keyboard. Have you tried changing keyboards?
Agree, coming from Samsung these blobs are atrocious on the LG. Changing them is near the top of my to do list after rooting.

It was fine on Swiftkey when on Samsung. I think it maybe something in the Nougat architecture that prevents Textra from adjusting it.
I thought with textra you had to select emoji from their own menu, I hated Samsung emoji. But couldn't get stock Android emoji to appear with the keyboard.
