Change "Hi Galaxy" to "Okay Google Now" functionality? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having fooled around with a friend's Moto X, I must say the "Okay Google Now" functionality is really cool. These Note 3s obviously have the hardware necessary to implement it, but Samsung went with the half-assed "hi galaxy" thing instead. Now that root has been achieved! I am hoping there is some way to replace the stock function with the one from the moto x. Anybody know how, other than the Open Mic+ app, which seems to not function the same, as it is a major battery hog.

Yes this x10000000000
I've been looking for an app or something that changes, the function of Hi, galaxy. Even If I said "Hi, galaxy" and it triggered Google Now

Correct. With wanam I have mine set to double click the home button for Google search instead of s voice . Works flawlessly
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk

I bet you could set up tasker to automatically kill S-voice and open Google Now.
That way you just say "Hi Galaxy" and you'll get straight to Google now.

I think this is probably very doable

btw if you guys are ONLY looking for the double click to google now functionality, try home2 shortcut, doesn't require root either, I use it and I put it on my customers phones (who won't root obv)

For the moment my workaround is to say "Hi Galaxy, Open Google Search". Then "Google, who is the president of the United States?", or whatever your Google Now need is.
But hopefully we can get something that works a little more flawlessly.

I would also like to show my interest in this! Changing the hot word would be amazing, but "Hi Galaxy" opening up into Google Now listening mode would be enough for me!
Edit: I have not had time to set up tasker.. Has anyone used the "when voice opens, close it, and open Google Now" work around? How was the experience?

I feel like it would be way too slow, but I have tasker, I'll try to set it up later today.

I have this working with the Tasker workaround, and while it takes about 3 seconds to start listening, I love the results! Heads up though, If I enabled the wake up command option on S-Voice, Voice Search would have trouble opening the mic. Make sure to turn this option off. FYI this is the one that allows hot word detection while in the S-Voice app, not the always listening option.

I would LOVE this functionality, S-voice STINKS! - its super slow, the voice sucks, and the results stink too.
What it DOES to very well is wake up from sleep.
I would love to see if we can get some Devs involved to make "hi galaxy" open up google now search, or even change the keyword
to "ok Google" just like the the Moto x.
Would you guys be interested in starting a bounty for this functionality?
Im willing to throw a few bucks in the pot.

I'm not sure, but if you install the new Kit Kat 4.4 Google Launcher, you can use Ok Google and it works pretty well.
Just a couple of things though. It only works when you are on your launcher screen and as of now, you need to be rooted (you need to replace a system file that is listed on page 3, the libgoogle_recognizer)
Just check out the thread on Installing the new google launcher.

I really like about the new Moto Droids. I'd love to see that functionality ported over. And while you're at it can we get the pulsing screen notifications too? J/k

I have tried the Kitkat Launcher. after being a hardcore pure AOSP android guy for almost 4 years
I ended up right back with touchwiz launcher. I actually like it MUCH better. The Kitkat launcher is
just too plain and lacks basic functionality like limits on icons in folders.. seriously?
Stock touchwiz launcher with "Hi Galaxy" to wake up from sleep directly and instantly go to Google voice search is the way
to go.

The pulsing notifications is actually probably doable as well, if someone built it off the "wave your hand over the phone" notifications. lol

I believe Moto is devoting a processor to the pulsing screen notifications. I doubt that's replicable on our phones.

The Google Experience .....

I haven't seen anyone really mention this if someone had I apologize. In flashing and modding my Note 3i have discovered that KitKat 4.4 is a popular topic. We now have some of the apps to flash to our devices and now we have the actual stock Android launcher from KitKat 4.4!!!!!! The Google Experience Launcher is amazing by far the best stock launcher ever and one of the smoothest I have ever used also. I have been using it for a day and after set up I am currently using it as my daily. The only thing I really don't like is that you are unable to change the icons on the home screen and there are no native gestures implemented but no big deal. Now they have implemented some major changes the app drawer now contains only your apps, widgets have their own section, you can arrange and add more home screens. Google Now is actually completely incorporated into the launcher itself and the search bar is constantly listening for you to say Ok Google to start a search using voice commands through Google Now. There are 3 apk's you will have to install to make this work they are totally dependant upon each other so if one is missing it will not open or work. I will post a link for you so you can download and give it a try for yourself I hope you guys enjoy and remember I did not create this or have anything to do with it I am just sharing it. If you brick your device it's not my fault ...

Google Search Update, GEL Launcher Install, and (broken) Touchless Control

http://www.xda-developers.com/android/major-google-search-update-brings-google-experience-launcher-to-all-jelly-bean-and-kitkat-devices/
FYI this broke my touchless control. "Ok Google Now" hot word will wake up touchless control, but it wont recognize any text.
"Ok Google" hot word from launcher works though.
No worries, cause I imagine going to apps and uninstalling the GEL Launcher app will fix it.

Has anyone managed to get okay google working with nova launcher?
What do you mean? If you're asking about the search bar on the home screen and saying "okay Google" then probably not. That's only on the Google Experience launcher. Unless maybe there is an always listening widget avaliable. Nova launcher does not have this built in.

So, just to be clear. You're asking if someone has modded the Nova launcher apk and built in the always listening Google search toolbar?
Here is a thread about that here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2523251
Here is another interesting page and some good links about this subject -
http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...launcher-that-supports-google-now-integration
Anyway, hope that helps. I didn't realize that it was that integrated. Looks like it would be more likely that Google would enable gestures and all the Nova stuff before they would free up the Google experience stuff.

You have a Moto X. Lol no need for that. ?
The OK GOOGLE NOW function for Moto x is under touch less control.. Don't think it matters what launcher you are using but I might be wrong...I have never used the google now launcher
I'm just curios. Besides the fact that Google Now is somehow disabled (I turned off because it was draining my battery when enabled). is the Google Launcher better than the stock one?
Better in what? It's just different...
In customization for example. Moto X's stock launcher does not enable to add or remove desktops.
In performance, stock is ok but is this faster and/or more responsive?
Things like that.

You can't add and remove desktops but you can add/remove widgets on both launchers.
They're both almost the same but the Google Launcher has nicer looking flat icons reminiscent of iOS 7.
Performance wise, I've not noticed any difference at all.
In regards to battery life, I'm still testing it out but seems similar to the Motorola launcher so far.
You CAN add delete homescreens on Google Now Launcher... Merely remove everything on what homescreen you are trying to get rid of, and it goes away. To add a homescreen make a widget or drag an icon from the drawer and drag it to the far right. Icons are NOT different. They are the same as before... Battery life and performance are the same as far as I can tell. Not really any other customizing, unless you are rooted and have xposed with the GEL module.

I know i have touchless control to do that. But it wouls have been better to have both, right? Touchless control is slower than the default okay google keyword functionality of the google search app. So by having both of them would have been better. So we could have used touchless control only when screen is off. I had the ok google keyword before the google search update and i used to keep both of them on. So whenever i said okay google while in the google search app it used to trigger the google voice recognition and while playing games or any apps it used to trigger the touchless control.

Unlike touchless control tho.... Google search will take a bigger toll on battery... And it won't work of your screen is off.
If it's better or not.... I couldn't say.
Don't use Google search on my N5...not the any screen detection anyway... Cause it does hurt battery life.

Well what's wrong in having choice not everyone have to like the same thing and set up. For people who use very less number of apps I can see this being simple. Even with iPhone or without app drawer you can use one finger swipe down gesture and bring up app search control. I don't see a big deal without app drawer but I would prefer to leave it up to the user to decide if they want or not as a setting.
