my nexus 4 is running AOKP milestone 2 right now and it has the random shut off problem. some suggests changing the kernel.
question: AOKP is 4.2.2 now, can i run it with the 4.3 kernels posted in development forum, such as 4.3 AK kernel, or does the kernel has to be 4.2.2 ? If 4.3 is ok, I should flash the JSS version of kernel right?
thanks in advance!

Has to be 4.2.2 kernel. 4.3 kernels are not compatible, and on top of that, 4.3 kernels need to match the rom, either the open JSS15J or nexus 4 official JWR66 builds.
Try 1.4.1 (last build before switching to 4.3)from http://www.semaphore.gr, it has its own app for controlling the kernel.
You could also attempt the 4.3 AOKP beta build:

Hello,
I still have 4.2.2 and I want to update it to 4.3. Right now I still have the Faux Kernel from June 23rd.
How can I update it to the 4.3 Android? Should I put in the Stock Kernel and then flash Faux Kernel again? Or is there a new Faux Kernel which has the OTA Update for 4.3?
Thanks in advance!!!!
Nobody?

If you look at the faux kernel thread, you will see that the latest V19 beta builds are intended for 4.3.
However, from what I'm reading it seems that 4.3 isn't all that. Many people are being plagued by bugs and lag, reverting back to 4.2.2.
Personally, I'm waiting a month or so until the devs cook the issues out - it's not worth my phone having issues just for a new camera interface.
YMMV.

You need stock ROM & stock kernel plus baseband .48 to flash/update to 4.3

I am considering on flashing the 10.2 CM nightly on my S4, but I'm currently running stock TW 4.2.2 (4.3 isn't out for my S4 yet), would it be ok to flash a 4.3 based ROM (10.2 CM nightly) over a 4.2.2 stock? Would I need to flash anything additional (other than gapps)? : /

Dang..:/ so if I wanted to use CM 10.2 I would have to wait until the 4.3 update rolls out for my phone?

What he means is that you cannot dirty flash to a different version of android. A full wipe is required when transitioning.
Just out of curiosity I'm thinking of installing custom kernel in my nexus 4 stock 4.4 and wondering which Linux kernel is the official kit Kat based on. Because I know that all the custom kernels are based on 3.4.xx

They say 3.8 (can't post outside link like au.ibtimes.com/articles/511297/20131004/android-4-kitkat-top-6-major-changes.htm#.UotYC6yrP49)

Confusing, but franco says there's no such kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47358165&postcount=1095

kernel are per phone not per android version. our n4 will stay 3.4.x (maybe just devs will update to others versions but it will not be all that difference).
So i'm a bit confused... Are there any customer kernels specifically for 4.4 or wasn't the kernel updated from 4.3 releases and i just need one based on that?
I've been around the android scene for a long time but just not sure with this Nexus 4 i'm used to smaller community over at Modaco with more concentrated info. There's a lot of rubbish to sift through here
Or are we missing source to make custom kernel for 4.4?
kernel source for 4.4 was released today. trinity kernel is on 4.4 now
Mine is running kernel version 4.9.
I flashed android 4.4.2 on my nexus 7.I want to flash a oc kernel on my nexus, which keranal should i flash???

Try faux's ultimate kernel. It is found in the original development section.
Hello all...
My boyfriend has the S4 for AT&T and loves the setup I have on my S3 with CM11 nightlies. Just curious as to how stable they are for the S4. I'm the Android nerd in the relationship and I don't want him to have any issues, since we don't live together.. yet
Or should I put another KK rom I saw over in the development section? Is CM10/JB more stable? How's the battery drain? I want to improve his phone, not give him problems LOL. He's completely stock right now.
I already know how to root and all that, I don't need instructions just advice for the best AOSP ROM/Kernel out there for this device.
Thanks in advance!
Depends on which firmware your boyfriend's phone has. Unless he is on the older firmware 4.2 MDL, there is no way to flash any AOSP rom, custom kernel, or even custom recoveries except Safestrap recovery.
With safestrap recovery, you can only flash certain touchwiz roms.
I'll have to check it out when I see him in a cpl days

Personally...I prefer custom tw roms on this phone..tw is actually better looking and more polished...and alot more features...check out Graviton 1.7
AT&T Samsung Galaxy SIV
Graviton Rom 1.7
Ktoonsez 01/13/2014 Kernel
I spent a few days messing around with a CM11 1/10 nightly, 1/12 nightly, and the M2 snapshot.
I was really quite impressed with just how smooth everything looked and felt.
Definitely a step up from CM 10.2 and 4.3-based Carbon builds.
I had best results with the 1/12 nightly and the M2 snapshot.
I was experiencing odd reboots and glitches with the 1/10 nightly.
Mine is a pre-MF3 phone, obviously.
rule of thumb with nightlies is that they are not always an indication of an official release. You could get a bad nightly but the nightly before was fine. So far they are fine and nightlies are generally for flash-oholics
Yep. If you're deadset on a relatively hands-free CM11, I think the M2 snapshot is probably the best bet.

OK so I took a screenshot of his system info and sent it to myself LOL
Baseband I337UCUAMDL
Kernel 3.4.0-453947 [email protected] #1
Build Number JDQ39.I337UCUAMDL
Is this the firmware you were referring to? I asked him if he did any system updates and he said he has not.

Yes, that's the right firmware. You can go ahead and use CASUAL, and then flash whatever you like for him.
