Note 3 Carrier Selection - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which carrier will you use for your Note 3? (Or are considering using)
I currently use Sprint, but I'm disappointed with their lackluster data network so I'm fairly certain I'm converting to t-mobile (with an outside chance of using AT&T, but unlikely).
I'm curious as to what the breakdown is amongst Note forum frequenters. I apologize for the lack of options for non-U.S. carriers, but that information is not of interest to me (Although the proportion of international users is useful, I suppose) I'm a statistician by trade, so the purpose of this poll is to satisfy my (and others') curiosity.

If I get a Note 3 it will probably be a tmobile one because of the unlocked bootloader. I'll use it on ATT. The tmobile S4 works on ATT without a problem.

"technically"
AT&T for me, but, it will be via straight talk, now that they are going to start doing LTE. I was thinking
about AIO, but now that ST is on LTE, I'll probably stay with it.
i don't use much data a month, less than 2 gig. Most of my data is wi-fi anyway. Been happy with
ST, so I don't see any reason now to switch.

I went with Sprint ~2 years ago out of principle (the only carrier I could get unlimited data with) but their network has been so slow for me I can't take advantage of the service. I can get discounts for both t-mobile and AT&T, but I feel like t-mobile offers a stronger value over the next two years for my usage. Depending on how aggressive the throttling is with ST's LTE network and how reliable the service is I'd definitely consider giving them a go, too.

Verizon for me.
I've still got their true unlimited and I'll be damned if I'm giving that up.

So you will be paying full price for it?

well im looking to get full price.. im on att and i been reading that it will be locked and now i read that tmo is unlockedboot..
will tmo work on att 4G/LTE? dont the S800 chips support LTE-A? att is going to get it first or has it already in some places ?
i need a phone that has rom support and needs root.. cant stand bloatwares

I will be using at&t as usual..... The locked bootloader I'm sure will be resolved or bypassed so I'm not worried about it! The most important thing to me is root which should not be a problem!

still new to this rooting thing.. so unlocked boot lets you use the phone on other carriers ? and root just lets you get root access so you can install roms/uninstall bloatware ?
im going with att buying it full price and maybe go back to t-mobile..will the att work on t-mo network?

Unlocked bootloader will allow for custom roms and kernel along with custom recoveries! Root is what it sounds like it gives root access to all system files. Sim unlock releases use on other carriers. And yes at&t device will work on T-Mobile bands.

Is better the other way around... AT&T Note 3 does not support the T-Mobile 1700 band... So you are better of getting the T-Mobile version and using it on AT&T... Since it supports all T-Mobile and AT&T bands...

AT&T LTE - > yes
LTE-A -> yes (same hardware)
Yes it supports it...
As someone mentioned before... More to gain, nothing to loose. With the T-Mobile version
Not to mention wifi-calling with T-Mobile... With the T-Mobile rom...
I do crossovers for the note 2... I have the AT&T Rom on the T-Mobile note 2 forum and the T-Mobile rom on the AT&T note 2 forum...
And the truth is that from my experience T-Mobile Roms are much more smooth than AT&Ts... Plus leessss bloatware.

I'm planning to order the Note 3 from Negri Electronics to use it with AIO Wireless, but I would like the option to use it with TMobile in the future. I also want to be able to root the phone to get rid of the bloatware. I was going to get the ATT version when I started reading these posts.
For what you're saying it's better to get the TMobile version because the 1700 band. However in the product page in Negri, for the ATT version, 1700 is listed as supported:
4G Network LTE 700 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 (I cannot post the links to Note 3 product pages in Negri since I'm new in the forum)
Does that means that the 1700 listed in the ATT version is not the same as the 1700 that TMobile uses? Do you still advice to get the TMobile version over the ATT version?
I'm new to all this stuff and will appreciate any help deciding.
Thanks in advance.

I recently bought one from www.android-enjoyed.com and they shipped from hongkong to me. It's perfect and in a sealed box. Also available at www.gsmnation.com. Price is the factor which vendor to go with. Check if at&t support the LTE bandwidth (800, 1800, 2600). Good luck.
unless you're going to be staying a lot in Europe, the N7105 isn't going to be a particularly better phone for you with its Euro/ETSI bands for LTE. The Note2 is multiband GSM and 3G (UMTS) anyway.
And LTE isn't fully deployed across Europe either, so by the time it is, the Note3 will be here, so I would say buy a cheaper Note2-7100 and save your money!
Or buy an US variant and flash a custom ROM on it.

Just as Victorator mentioned, just get the AT&T Note 2 and flash international firmware onto it. The N7105's LTE hardware is not compatible with domestic North American LTE service, so it won't work. Fortunately, the AT&T/Rogers i317(m) Note 2's are virtually identical to the N7105 from a hardware standpoint, with the exceptions of differing LTE radios and lack of FM radio in the case of the North American Note 2's. That's why it's so easy to flash the international firmware onto them.

Niether of those are selling cheap N7105 compared to
www.negrielectronics.com
Who are also more suitably based for the OP in the US.
The 7105 LTE bands aren't the US bands but alot are buying the 7105 for its faster 3G capabilities (DC HSPA+) rather than for its 4G
Not sure whether its an advantage to have that feature in US though.
For the International version N7100, if I put in the T-mobile sim, do I only get "edge" and not "3G" ?
And with AT&T, do I at least get the 4G? I am debating to either get the AT&T one of the international one.

I'm in the same boat. I'm moving from Japan to the America, and I have an unlocked N2 with docomo. I knew off the bat that the LTE wouldn't be compatible, but didn't even consider the 3G. Hate to have such an awesome device on an ancient network.
I am using AT&T myself. I just want to make sure with the N7100 international unlocked version. Will I get 4G , I know LTE is out of luck.
Can anyone confirm this?

If you have the INT GT-N7100 then you will want to use AT&T but go with Straight Talk they use att network. I use Straight Talk and get dl speeds of 6-8 up of about2-4. And its cheaper than att.

If you plan on using lots of data, do not use straight talk. They will throttle you and it's annoying as heck when your data speed is slower than a dial up modem.
At least tmobile let's you know how much data you can use. And their hspa+ speed is very fast, always +4mb for me
Unfortunately 100 min is not enough for lots of people. Wish they would up it to 300 or 500 mins. That would be awesome!

USA - Arkansas
I'd say T-Mobile because of the free international data, free Wifi calling back to the US, and $.20 a minute international calls.
So GSM? (ATT/Tmobile). I was asking mainly because I got interviews to work in Japan or Korea and wanted to bring with me my phone (I have a ATT Note 2 on Net10). I wanted to use their cell towers and wanted to see if LTE would work, or which one would work better

Unlocked/International Version for use with US/GSM Carrier

I would definitely prefer an unbranded phone, usually that means 'International' model? Any suggestions on where I should be looking to buy one?
Here on "pre-order launch" day, the only offers I see are for carrier branded phones.
In case I've made an error in logic, I'll note what I'm trying to do: I use a MVNO GSM carrier with an unlimited data plan, so I'm looking for a "GSM" S7-EDGE that is carrier unlocked. I'll check the LTE bands and all... the question is, where to buy one of these?
Not sure on international models however you'll want to check out tmobile. There always unbranded and I believe I read somewhere it has all 4 bands except cmda? Can't confirm the cmda one. Also the bootloader are unlocked.
Expansys and eBay are your best bets when the time comes

TMOBILE phones are not Unbranded at all - they include a bunch of bloat and their branding is all over the software in their phones - I don't think they put the name TMOBILE on the phone itself, but I thnk Unbranded means much more than just that. I am not meaning to criticize, just pointing out the fact that I don't think TMOBILE Phones could be considered unbranded.
Having said that, they do work beautifully on other compatible networks.
Just preordered my Samsung Galaxy S7 (930T). Hopefully this T-Mobile phone will get rooted quick. I'm done with AT&T phones.... paid outright, and will unlock through T-Mobile....

My Bad... thanks for the heads up
Here's an unlocked probably European phone from Expansys
http://www.expansys-usa.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-unlocked-32gb-black-onyx-288135/
I think it's the European because it's listed as an Octa core (Processor: Octa-Core / 2.3 GHz Quad + 1.6 GHz Quad) if I'm not mistaken the SD820 isn't Octa but the Exynos is and Europe is supposed to be getting Exynos.
If those bands are correct that is very limiting. I'd still hold out and wait to see the full support listing.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
Isn't that you can just use qualcomm's QXDM,QPST and DFS to unlock all the band? Just need have root first.
maybe, but you should rely on it. Let's just say for example Samsung changes how things are in this version or we can't find an exploit for 6 months to a 1 year? That's just me though. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
So I was planning to get the international version (Exynos) Galaxy S7 Edge, but After using the Live Chat on Samsung website, they told me as of today the International Version of S7 DOESN"T support the Samsung Pay yet.... any ideas?
I am trying to unlock one for my family member from t mobile. Anyway to unlock it for international use without paying a fortune?

Is it true what they are saying that when you first put the sim in the phone and turn it on it locks itself to that carrier?? SO IF I PUT IN att sim in tmobile phone it will be locked to att ?

Just preordered my Samsung Galaxy S7 (930T). Hopefully this T-Mobile phone will get rooted quick. I'm done with AT&T phones.... paid outright, and will unlock through T-Mobile....

Sorry to break it to you but the bootloader on the TMO S7 Edge is locked down now like ATT and Verizon without root available
"And on that bombshell!"

Check out the Canadian version sm-g935w8. It has exynos, supports samsung pay and can be rooted. The specs say it supports all the north American lte bands. If you buy one from a Canadian samsung experience store, it comes with factory unlock codes

I'm getting an Exynos S7 Edge and am thinking of installing an unbranded Rom from Sammobile, any idea which?
I'm in Australia, so no Samsung Pay yet, but it could be handy.
I'm sure certain European Roms get updates sooner too.
Ok, checked Sammobile again and this looks safe. Looks to be an unbranded Australian rom.

which one is it missing?

According to the N930FD spec sheet, this phone has all the necessary hardware to operate on AT&T. It supports 1900MHz (B2), 850MHz (B5), LTE700 (B17), and LTE1700/2100 (B4). There is no reason why it wouldn't work.
I've got it pre-ordered from AT&T. Wish it was the 19th already lol

missing 2 bands. b29 & b30
https://www.frequencycheck.com/comp...-td-lte/samsung-sm-n930a-galaxy-note-7-td-lte
That's why I ended up pre-ordering the ATT version

The 2 missing bands don't seem to be a big deal
Band 29 - Pertaining to cellular networks, the radio downlink is the transmission path from a cell site to the cell phone. (A frequency for Tracking you)
Band 30 - The Wireless Communications Service (WCS) 2.3ghz Frequency that is mostly used for the "ZWave type technology" (ATT Alarms - like locking doors etc.)
I'm definitely going with Galaxy Note 7 N930FD DUAL SIM Factory Unlocked! I'm sure it'll feel nice to be free and feel free from a carrier like ATT. The last few devices I've purchased I felt like a mouse caught in a trap. The S6 Edge was & will be the last carrier locked device I will ever buy. Not all may feel my pain but that's way to much money to put out and be locked out of it.
One advantage of ATT is for WHEN the devices go wrong. I have had to switch practically evert note I ever had from Note 1 through 5. They are very good at that.
That's one worry about getting the device from a 3rd party seller, for me anyway.

so in retrospect how important are the 2 missing bands? The one that tracks you does it cause issues with the GPS??

ditto; having FULL control of what i paid for is more important to me. i realize/understand/accept the risk of ownership. i have the DUOS S7Edge (935FD) and it's working well for me. that being said, i'm not able to use ATT's VoLTE and ATT's Video call features. i suspect something in the ROM is missing from my device. nonetheless, not showstoppers for me. only Note 7 showstopper for me now is if the device cannot be rooted.

I didn't even know what those 2 were since googling at&t bands only shows info on the ones used for calls and LTE.
Band 30 is newer spectrum they purchased last year, it's mainly for high congestion areas and hasn't been deployed in many places yet. Not sure how significant it will be in the near future, I do know that the iPhone SE was released without it, so it can't be that important, yet. Band 29 I have no idea, haven't researched it yet. I don't think I'd be afraid of this model in terms of reception, but you lose a lot of stuff like wifi calling, VOLTE, Samsung pay, etc.
Anyone know if the bootloader is unlocked? I'd be willing to lose the AT&T stuff if I could root it.

He man, how've you been? :good:
I ordered a Note 7 Duos N930FD . It scheduled to be delivered tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.....
Very interested to hear how you get on on AT&T. Where did you buy it to get it delivered tomorrow?

I just pre-ordered mine from Best Buy on AT&T. I am planning to to payout the full cost immediately after getting the device. And currently I don't have any contract with AT&T. Will I be able to unlock my Note 7 easily? Will it affect my warranty in any manner?

Can you see if wifi calling works? I'm pretty sure it's no, but I wanted to hear it first hand. If it doesn't maybe it's worth a call to att tech support and maybe they can add it. Also does Samsung pay work?

No Wi-Fi calling. Samsung pay is not included in the default apps. I'll play more tomorrow to see.

i briefly owned a note 5 international device without samsung pay. to get it to work you need a ROM from a country where Samsung pay is active. Like US, UK, Australia dn i think Singapore now. At the time the only roms were from countries that hadnt activated samsung pay and therefore the app didnt work. Not the end of the world as there is android pay.
I am really interested to see how you get on with LTE without that band. Can you do a compare to an AT&T device?

So far so good today. I drive a lot for work and signal / lte has been working fine. Basically haven't noticed anything wrong with data/signal so that's a good thing. I haven't cancelled my pre order with ATT so I might compare it to that one when it comes in.
Tonight I can run speed test side by side with my wife's iPhone tonight at home. Not really sure if that would help, but I can do it.
