OK guys. Enough for me.
I've been pretty happy with my Nexus device since 4.2. Despite very few minor bugs it had been running absolutely fine.
Then the 4.3 update came and totally, pardon my French, sc***ed everything up.
First of all, the overall experience. Scrolling got much smoother for me. Secondly, that's all.
What got 'broken' was definitely the overall smoothness of the UI. For example, when I click an option in the Settings menu, it takes much longer time for the bluish color that indicates the click to disappear. It isn't only in Settings though. What's more, the click sound is somehow 'laggy'. What I mean by that is when I click something there's a noticeably greater amount of time needed for the sound to be triggered than it was in 4.2.2.
Also, the widgets drawer looks just bizzare for me. Some strange black boxes started to appear since 4.3 update (attachment).
Today, the stock YouTube app got unbearably laggy when scrolling through the list of searched movies.
But today Android has gone full retard. Just look at one of screenshots in attachments; surprisingly enough, the YouTube widget thumbnail looks like... the volume slider!
I've tried clearing data, cache, force stopping the YouTube app, even uninstalling it and going back to stock (+turning it off completely). If I go to stock app, then the thumbnail is fine. But as soon as I update the app... the same thing happens.
Also, while writing this, I noticed that my phone discharged by around 4% despite being plugged to a charger (in AC mode).
Seriously, this isn't an experience I was expecting from a Nexus device, a phone that should be a model for any other Android smartphone.
I wish I could go back to 4.2.2.
It's possible to go back to 4.2.
You just need to download the factory image from Google and flash with fastboot.
But you might try a factory reset before that to see if that solves the problem.

Bump.
Really no one has ever seen such a bizzare OS behavior?
Also, I am not in favor of wiping my device as I have lots of precious personal data stored in it.
I think also that a factory reset may help you.
I think that something went wrong with the update.

I am having a lot of problems with the camera app on my tablet. I am stock .30, and rooted. The app is incredibly slow to the point of being unusable. When I do take photos, often they come out either glitched or just as a block green colour.
I have tried a cold reboot but it doesn't help.
I have also had the tablet reboot without warning when I have pressed the shutter button.
Anyone else having these problems or know how to fix them? Thanks.
I have attached some of the "photos" I have been able to take with the stock camera app.
Try clearing the camera app data, try using a different camera app from the market if neither of those work I guess you could try a factory reset. If that doesn't work contact Asus support or exchange your pad for a new one.

If a factory reset does not solve your problem, you may just have a defective devices seeing as how you are running the stock rom with stock kernel.
It's an intermittent problem, it's working fine now for example. This leads me to believe it's not a hardware issue. My tablet is also pretty laggy, and it hangs in most apps. I have since uninstalled 30 or so apps and it seems to be working a little better. I hope jelly bean fixes stability issues.
Am I the only one with this camera problem?

hence you should do a factory reset. mine doesn't lag at all

i think you should try the suggested factory default reset.
i have rooted mine today, and updated to .30 too, got back root, and the camera works perfectly like before.
lots of apps installed to.. also in .30 i have noticed a good system speedup in general.
haven't had any issues with my camera either. but i dont take many pics with it. i may have like 10 pics MAX.
however i do have some hang-ups with the camera app...like when i tap the little icon for the last picture...it takes the app about 10 seconds before it pops up the full screen image. just another annoying little hesitation with this tablet.
as for JB, i assume it will sort out all the issues we have currently. i am mainly looking for the little hesitations to be taken care of...which i assume they will be since JB is built with the Tegra 3 in mind (see nexus 7)
I would advise to do a factory wipe and re install the firmware. May help.

Confirming your issue. I have the exact same issues with mine. A difference though: mine is completely stock, no root or nothing customized. My camera seemed to be working under ICS. After the JB upgrade it has been a complete mess. I have done cold boots, factory resets and I finally had to request RMA/repair. My pad is only 2 months old and issue occured after upgrading to JB on 24th aug. RMA granted and at the Asus repair centre they have replaced the front camera for some reason even though my issues are connected with the rear. Anyway, pad returned and nothing has changed. Camera is still messed up. which actually is starting to annoy me rather much. Not only are the images solid green or glitched/double exposed - there is even a huge lag. From the time I shoot till the image is saved it takes about 2-3 seconds - the result being that the image saved is absolutely not the image I shot but some image at the time of saving (i.e. 2-3 seconds delayed). Extremely annoyning, because this was not an issue under ICS and it pretty much renders the camera useless when shooting objects in motion.
I have been granted yet another RMA/repair to fix the camera and hopefully asus will be able to resolve the problem this time. Hardware or software/firmware - I'm not able to tell. I will not, however, let this go until issue is resolved as the camera to me is a must. I should add that otherwise I am quite happy with the pad.
Hi all,
I have a problem with the Play Store on my Nexus 7 what is bugging me since I got the device and that I never experienced on any other Android device I own(ed). This problem has been present from the beginning with any version of Android (got the Nexus 7 with 4.2.1 and got the 4.2.2. update quickly) and Play Store. Even the brand new 4.0 version that has been rolled out just yesterday (the bright one with the new tile design) showns this error.
The problem is this: in 3 of 4 cases when I hold my device in portrait mode and start play store and update an app, the screen constantly "flashes" every second while downloading, it´s that graphical "zoom in" effect that you get when you open an app. The problem is that I can´t leave this screen with the "back" button, it simply doesn´t work and the page keeps on flickering and showing that strange effect. Only the "home" button helps. After downlaoding and installing the update, everything woks fine.
What I already tried to get rid of the problem (none of them did help, though..):
- deleted cache and data from paly store, uninstalled update of play store, so Android reinstalled updates
- tried new version 4.0 of play store
- deleted, rebooted and reinstalled gmail account on Nexus 7
Anyone experienced this glitch? Any hints on how to solve this?
Thanks a lot,
Markus
Try stopping Downloads and Download Manager in Apps > All and clearing cache and data for them. Then reboot and try Play again.
My nexus been doing the same thing since new but in landscape mode only, annoying, but never bothered me too much. I just try to remember to keep portrait mode while updating.

I've been playing with roms and kernels lately, settling on Buttered Grouper 4.2.2 with Franco kernel r65. Just noticed the other day that Play Store flickering is gone. Coincidence?

This has been happening since I got the Nexus on release day. Thought it was normal behavior LOL. Completely stock -> Stock 4.3 ROM rooted/M-Kernel a61.

Wow, it´s still present on the NEW Nexus 7 ? Unbelievable, maybe time to jump off the Nexus bandwagon ... most people think it´s a huge advantage to have a nexus and always the newest android version, but to me it´s more and more a disadvantage. When 4.3 came out half of my apps stopped working, and i had to wait several days and even weeks (heck, some are STILL not compatible with 4.3) to use them again...
I have a Canadian Note 3 (SM-N900W8), it's KNOX 0x0 rooted and I have CM11 M12 installed. I have been using only the M builds since I got this phone, I didn't even set up Touchwiz when I got it, I rooted and installed Cyanogenmod out of the box.
Now, with the new CM12 builds coming out, what happened to CM11, are they going to fix the remaining issues? Or did they just bail on legacy KitKat users because I'm having TONS of problems and I don't want lollipop, it runs like absolute crap for the nightlies right now and CM11 M12 isn't much better. Bluetooth takes a couple of attempts to connect, when it does my phone runs super slow to the point it force restarts. For instance, if I'm driving around, listening to music on the car stereo, pull over some where, find a new album on Google Music, start playing that, it's all good, do this a few times, every time I use my phone it gets slower and slower until it force restarts and then bluetooth has trouble connecting again. I've tried this on a few other vehicles of different brands and aftermarket stereos and it's the same result.
Audio is all funky when bluetooth is on too, it sounds like robots for the system sounds and if bluetooth drops while it's connected the music starts playing from the phone and sounds all roboty. I always do clean flashes too and the latest Paranoid Android GAPPS every time I reflash, the ROM is fine out of the box, works flawless for the first few days but after awhile, it becomes so bad I have to backup, wipe, reflash, and start over for another few weeks.
Another issue is somewhere between M8 and M12 one of the builds corrupted my SD card, I tossed in a second new card, it was corrupted again, FutureShop won't give me another one and said my phone is breaking them so I'm SD-less right now.
There are also quite a few apps that force close, but always at random, it's never when doing the same thing over and over, for instance, I can be scrolling through G+ and it tells me settings has stopped working, wasn't even using settings, didn't even have it open, haven't clicked it since booting my phone, just randomly stops working for no reason, this also happens all the time with the Camera, it says it just stops working when I haven't even used it and then if I try to use it, it says the camera is disconnected and won't work until I reboot.
I turn my phone off every night while it's charging and turn it back on every morning so every morning it gets a fresh restart, and I have to restart my phone probably 5ish times a day, if I'm using bluetooth more then normal then there's quite a few more unintentional reboots in there as well.
The last issue, which is a known issue is NFC not working, is there a fix for this yet? I kinda miss this feature and with how flawed CM11 is getting I don't know where to turn since they always seemed to be the most stable out of everything I've tried.
Any before anyone says Temasek's CM builds, I tried it, the final for CM11, it was worse then M12, it's exactly the same as M12, but every issue happens more frequently. Also, the pull down menu (when pulling down from the top right to show toggles), the bottoms of the last row was cut off so it didn't look very appealing either, it also used WAY more battery life, I usually get a full day out of one charge, so around 18 to 20ish hours on one charge, with temaseks cm11 I had to charge my phone half way through the day, sometimes my phone would just die on me without me knowing, the battery usage was always Android System.
A new problem that just happened lastnight was Google Keyboard was deleted and only the voice search would work, but "voice search can't be reached" so I couldn't search for another keyboard app from the playstore. I also used the stock GAPPS so AOSP keyboard is replaced with Google Keyboard, I had to reflash again this morning because I couldn't figure out the keyboard thing, there wasn't even a keyboard under languages in settings so I had no options to pick which keyboard to use. When I reflashes this morning I used the Modular GAPPS to it keeps the AOSP Keyboard just in case this happens again but I'm getting really tired of only having a reliable phone for a few weeks.
So, are there any fixes for these issues?
Bluetooth taking multiple attempts to connect
Bluetooth forcing random reboots
Bluetooth making audio from device all funky and sounds like a robot
Corrupting SD cards
Random system apps stopping without me even using or opening them
Google Keyboard vanishing
Are there any stable ROMs I could try for the HLTE? Maybe one that has working NFC? I'm almost thinking of going back to stock *throws up in mouth* but I don't know what else to do with how many bugs there are and Lollipop is only getting worse with the issues.
I'm also trying to avoid Lollipop because everything is white, Note 3 is an AMOLED display, each pixel illuminates on it's own so white screens use WAY more battery life then black ones which was a feature of Temasek's CM11 that I liked, had the option in settings to make everything black like the good old days.
So guys? Really out on my luck here, not sure what the next step is, any fixes for these problems? Any other ROM's I could try? Would flashing a new recovery and reflashing CM11 M12 fix some of these issues? I'm using Xiaoli CWM v6.0.4.7(20140125). Would the fact that KNOX isn't tripped have something to do with this? I really don't understand why there aren't more posts for these issues which leads me to believe I'm one of the only ones experiencing them.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
EDIT:
I forgot to mention that when recording audio or video, it's as if the mic gain is set on full so even the slightest sound is pure distortion, normal talking volume and it clips, I found an app that lets me choose between the mics and when I pic the external mic, it's all muffles as if something is covering it but my phone wasn't in a case while I was testing so I'm not sure what the deal is there but I can't record any decent audio with this and when I record in 4K using Cinema FV-5, all the videos turn out looking like Anaglyph 3D but all pink and green, it's really weird and I don't understand why, but 1080p at 60fps works fine.
I am on CM12 and luckily have had no issues at all. I came from KK 4.4.4 and still have the NB7 BL and modem. I tried one of the guys slim ROMs alpha builds but had issues (probably operator error) but I've tried Bluetooth, GPS, WiFi , LTE etc and everything is good. Not sure what to tell you. I do however always wipe internally and d/l all my apps again through WiFi. A bit cumbersome I know but it won't give me any residual data.

I'm running stock android 7.1.1 on a Nexus 6p and there's a dramatic lag in scrolling response. When the screen is scrolling quickly and I put down my finger to stop the scroll there is a huge lag before the scrolling stops. About half a second or more. It seems to occur in all apps (and even system settings menus). I've had this problem since buying the phone a couple weeks ago. It's driving me nuts. I never have this problem with my iPad, MacBook or even my ancient nexus 4. The odd thing is that if instead of just putting down my finger I drag my finger slightly (in any direction) then the lag almost disappears, but obviously that's a very awkward thing to do, especially when none of my other devices require it. Does anybody else have this problem (and hopefully a solution)?
I've talked to Google customer support. They told me to clear the cache of every app (yes that does take quite a while) and to clear the partition cache. This did not resolve the problem and now they want me to do a factory reset, which apparently is the last step before hardware warrantee measures. I'd love to know if this is a common problem.

You aren't the only person who has experienced this issue but I haven't had it happen. I don't know if anyone found a solution but if you do a search in this section you should find a thread very similar to yours with a lot of responses. I think some people experienced the issue after updating to 7.1.1

Thanks, I'll have a look. (Tried searching before but didn't find anything.)
For me the problem predates 7.1.1
I found the source of my scroll lag issue. I sometimes enable the magnification gesture in the accessibility settings (because I often use a particular transit app that has insanely small icons). I realized that when I have this setting turned on the scrolling gets laggy. Turning off the magnification gesture seems to solve the problem completely. Not sure if there's any workaround other than disabling the gesture setting.
Hello,
I just bought a moto X style 32gb, it works well except one thing : when I close the app drawer, sometimes it gets choppy, more when it comes to the home page at the same time. The weirdest thing is I got the exact same glitch with any third party launcher including nova.
I'm on stock 6.0.1 last update. I tried Factory reset, absolutely no app installed and still got the issue. The only workaround is to unable hw overlay, but then it is transitions which get choppy.
Didn't find any similar thread.
Thanks for helping.
Haven't heard of this... does it do it in safe mode?
Thanks for answering.
Yes it does the same thing un safe mode.
I managed to avoid this laggy animation by setting force GPU rendering and disable hw overlay. With these 2 options set together I got rider of any lag. But I assume it will make battery life suffer a little.
I'm tempted to Root and install some nougat Custom rom since we still don't know when we will exactly get it on OTA, maybe this summer... Which is long.

I've just done the same seems like the phone's bit more fluent. I woudln't bother with this Nougat ROM's as they say battery life is worse. I was thinking about unlocking the phone but my speaker grill is loose like it's hanging on one leg and I'm willing to sent it for on warranty heh. Also I found out that if You sent Your phone on warranty they're gonna changr Your back cover because it's mandatory part - the technician has to order it if he's loging the phone so You have like half refurb if U sent it on some software issue or whatever - they have to open the phone to check for liquids or whatever.
After some testing, I confirm the dev options make things better but still far from perfect. Still some micro lag when opening closing app drawer, and when opening a new page in chrome.
I don't understand this behaviour since I didn't find anything on internet, and I didn't have these issues with a LG G4 which has the same hardware, and notre running aosp like moto does more or less. I thought it would running better!
I'm gonna send it back as I bought it on Amazon a week ago.
