Hey guys,
I am pretty new with the android OS but I am trying my hardest to read up on it and wrap my head around it. so please bear with me.
I have a verizon fascinate that was purchased a week ago and I rooted it.
I have the Rom Manager installed and the OS is running smoothly. I was going to install a custom Rom on my phone but when I tried to back up the current Rom using the Rom manager. it will boot into the Android system recover (2e) and this is what shows up on my phone:
-- Install from Package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:faield to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
with that massage I dont think that I have my current Rom backed up any where...
does any one know how I can get passed this step?
I dont have much knowledge about the android operating system so if some one can help me out with this it would be freaking awesome!

I have not installed anything crazy, Rooted with the One click root. and Used the Titanium back up software.
You have to flash the Clockwork kernel/recovery onto it to run the update.zip that activates the backup stuff. See here.
MAKE SURE YOU FLASH INTO THE "PDA" SECTION OF ODIN AND NOT THE "PHONE" PART. "Phone" will brick your device.
Works perfect now!
Thank you very much!
i'm having the same problem, but i've already flashed clockwork? did i miss something?
fail fail
E:faield to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Which version of cwm are you using, and what are you trying to flash?
I recently exchanged my Nexus One for another guy's N-1 which works on ATT 3G. I had done a nandroid backup of my phone, and used that same image to recover the "new" phone to exactly how it was before the switch. It failed first, but after I moved my BCDS folder to the new HTPXXX folder, it went through.
However, now when I try to flash a zip from recovery (Amon-RA 2.2.1), I always get the "Signature verification failed" error. I tried flashing newer radio, after verifying the MD5SUM. I tried flashing the 0.35.017 HBoot. Both of them failed. I am wondering if it's because of the mismatched nandroid recovery I did.
Any help would be greatly appreciated -- thanks!
Edit: Needless to say, after disabling signature verification, everything flashes correctly.
Oops I just realised I should not be posting questions here -- sorry! Can someone please lock this thread?
How to update the Nexus Android 2.2 to Android 2.3.4? Need to unlock the bootloader?
How to update the Nexus Android 2.2 Android 2.3? Need to unlock the bootloader?

Hi guys, i have been trying to update my Nexus 7 3G for awhile now, i had stock 4.2 and i unlocked bootloader and rooted teh device using CF-Auto-Root and it worked, i than received OTA update to 4.2.2 and i applied(i have custom recovery TWRP) and it applies update and it restarts and when i click on about tablet its still on 4.2 and after some time i get a notification saying system upate, repeat the same thing and again im stuck on 4.2.
So i decided to do a manual update and i took theupdate from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745781 and used JDQ39 from JVP15S since i am on JVP15S and i get an error 7 and so i tried JOP40C from JVP15S and same error 7.
"assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/system/app/applicationsprovider.apk", "435f87
E: Error in /sdcard/513ad3dbbd6b/signed-nakasig-JOP40C-from-JVP15S.513ad3db.zip (status 7)
error flshing zip "......."
updating partition details..'
Than says failed in red.
Can someone help me out here?
Thanks
I have rooted my Nexus 4 with Tool Kit and flashed it with stock 4.3 image. Few days later came new small security patch for 4.3. Now every few days I get the notification on my phone but when I try to let it install, it does not get installed.
Here is phone info:
Android version: 4.3
Build number: JWR66V
Kernel: 3.4.0-perf-gf43c3d9
I will appreciate your help. Is this update available as a zip file on the forum? if it is, then I can side load it on my rooted phone.
I will appreciate any help.
I have this too
If it helps, I have to problem too.
I have rooted my phone and installed ClockworkMod Recover v6.0.2.3 but have not installed any custom ROM or other changes (that I know of).
I periodically get a messge an update has been downloaded, but when I attempt to install it, ClockworkMod informs me:
Code:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Since I don't know what it is, I abort the install, but I can't tell what is happening. I would also appreciate any help.
Regards,
Bret

Yes, I have also installed ClockworkMod Recover v6.0.2.3 and running stock ROM as well. . If this update is available as a zip file then we can install it. It should not be just two of us having this issue. Everyone who rooted phone should have same issue.

Thanks for pointing towards the right direction. I tried to side load the zip but it failed. I will post the question in the other thread.
[solved] "Footer is wrong" error after updating to 5.0 - can't flash (workaround)
I just decided to upgrade my Note 3 (N9005) from 4.4.2 to Lollipop - I was holding off until Xposed for TW seemed nice and stable - and used this guide to do it. The intention was to go up to 5.0 and then put on a custom 5.1 rom on with xposed.
Since putting 5.0 on, however, I appear to be able to flash almost nothing - everything comes up with the...
"Finding update package...
Verifying update package...
E: footer is wrong
E: footer is wrong
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
...error, then reboots. I tried changing from CWM to TWRP, and discovered that anything which uses the Aroma installer won't run either - if I turn off verification it starts then quits back to TWRP. I tried a whole bunch of other update threads but ended up with a device that wouldn't boot.
At this point I decided to push the 5.0 ROM from Sammobile back on via Odin and try to start afresh. My device is currently working with 5.0 (and CWM) on it but I still cannot flash anything - with the one exception of arter97's kernel, which flashes fine!!!
I'm stumped. I've read various threads about the "Footer is wrong" error and am none the wiser. It cannot be the files, I've pulled a number of them numerous times (various machines too) and checked the hashes and they're all good, but I can't fined anything conclusive to give me a way forward.
Can anyone suggest a next step? Please?
After another day of fruitless searching I finally found a thread (in this forum, ironically) which discussed the problems with TWRP 3 and Aroma.
I installed TWRP 2.8.7 - still no joy with the verification - but with verification disabled (I'd checked the hashes) I finally managed to install a 5.1 custom ROM. So while I'm none-the-wiser as to the source of the "Footer is wrong" error, at least I've been able to work round it.
Hope this helps someone else.
