I have data on my atrix but I still cant get the data to work
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
There was an error in the activation process with my wifes phone and she did not have data. had to get the store to fix it. just call or go in to a store.
make sure it has the hspa+ version of the data plan. Also, if you ordered online call the 800 number listed in the shipping packet to accept the terms and conditions. That would fix it.
I checked on my att account and my data package is there and I did accept the terms and agreements. Now i'm started to think I didn't enable it or something how do I know if its enabled?
Go to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>APNs
See what's selected. I have a really old plan so I had to insert a custom APN...
I'd try calling... I had everything set up and had actually talked to AT&T a couple hours earlier to get everything sorted out. Sure enough, I go to try and use data and it's not there.
Yea I went to radio shack today to get mine and it took them a long time and they ended up calling ATT.
The data plan was causing problems but they got it sorted out on the spot.
Rooted/ROM Captivate
Rooted Atrix
For my phone AT&T US HSDPA is selected
Got this phone yesterday, had no data plan previously so I had to get one. Went into att store to get micro Sim and data plan. It took forever because n4 imei wasn't in their system and giving them the number lead to further confusion. One hour later I ended up with a working Sim and they entered a generic imei number. Calling and texting works fine but I'm having data issues. I sometimes get HSPA but then the service drops back to edge and never comes back to HSPA. Rebooting sometimes fixes, but most of the time it gets stuck on edge. I know my area has great HSPA and 3g coverage because my friend has an hspa phone. Is there something I can do to fix? Or if I call att, what do I tell them to do to fix?
Thanks.

Just wondering, what data plan did you get?
3gb $30 a month.

You made sure to set the APN correctly?
How do I set the APN? I'm new to smart phones, att just handed me the phone after putting micro sim in it. I looked at the mobile network settings and I'm not sure what they should be set to.

Turn off phone, take out sim card. Blow on it or do whatever voodoo you prefer. Put back in and turn phone back on.
Report back.
Changed APN settings to match this and rebooted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791526
Getting HSPA+ now, I'll see if it stays that way.
Thanks.
Go into APN settings, tap menu, then restore default APN and see if that helps
You should be able to get unlimited data for $15 because its not a smartphone thats in their system as you said. So, technically, its considered a dumb simple phone, which gets the data plan $15 or unlimited text and data for $20. I was planning to get this plan once I receive my back ordered device...AT&T probably put you the smartphone data plan because they saw it was a smartphone. I would call the ATT customer service and re-give them your IMEI number to get the unlimited data.
Their system was detecting it needing a blackberry plan, trust me, I tried getting the cheaper one. And apparently after a couple of months they will figure out you are using a smartphone.

you dont need to do that. the phone automatically assigns the att one.
atleast mine did
Turns out I did. Atts network gave me the settings for edge and I had to change it manually.

I did that with my current phone, and now Super Mario loads properly. Thanks!
Now it appears when I reach a low signal strength area I get edge and once I leave that area it doesn't transition back to HSPA+. Anyone else having this problem?
Edit: I've tried a bunch of APN settings found on this forum and now I'm not even getting HSPA. WHYYYYYY?

Force WCDMA (UMTS/HSPA) Only
My Samsung Vibrant had issues staying on 3G, and this solved the problem. So here's how to force it to only use UMTS/HSPA. Phone -> *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> scroll to the drop-down list -> select "WCDMA only" -> wait for it to apply, then enjoy 3G. To enable EDGE again, select "WCDMA preferred"
I want to know if there is anyone else with the same problem as myself to try and troubleshoot, identify, and hopefully fix the following problem:
History:
I had an unlocked Nexus 4 on Straighttalk (on ATT's network by swapping out the sim from the nokia e5) from Feb. 2013- Dec. 2013 and had no problems with data or sync. In late December of 2013 I saw that Straighttalk was selling ATT micro sims again with 4G LTE compatibility so I decided to buy one (even though 4G LTE is not on the Nexus 4 without root) just in case I ever decided to upgrade phones. I activated the sim, updated the APN settings, and all data, mms, sms, and phone calls were working.
Problem:
Data was working (tested by using the browser and Facebook), but there were sync issues with all my google apps: gmail, keep, calendar, browser, etc. After a month of troublshooting, I've figured out that I get intermittent data signals, which is causing my google services to not sync properly. I have narrowed it down to a couple of things that are possibly causing the intermittent data:
1) The new APN from Straighttalk is not working properly for non-4G LTE phones
2) The new APN settings don't allow background data
3) The new sim card doesn't work properly with my phone
Solutions That I've Already Tried, and They Didn't Work:
- Tried every possible APN setting on the XDA Developers forums and the internet
- Tried using the "old" apn settings
- Tried using ATT's apn settings
- Factory reset
- Flashed .48 radio
- Tried to CM11 with the newest radios, older radios, and hybrid radios that enable 4G LTE
- Unroot, locked bootloader, and flashed factory image downloaded from the Google developer's website
A couple of other notes:
- I tried activating a Tmobile micro sim to test if it were my phone, but everything worked perfectly with Tmobile so I know it isn't the phone (I wish I had tried this before factory resetting, rooting, and going back). If I switched to the Tmobile sim, all my problems would be fixed, but my biggest problem is that the reception for phone calls was horrible so I want to stay on ATT's network
- When I turn airplane mode on and then off, all my data syncs properly. But who wants to manually sync every time they unlock their phone? At my job replying to emails in a timely manner is extremely important so my data not syncing properly is not ideal.
- Sometimes when I unlock my phone, the data tile in the swipe down menu is orange. Indicating a bad connection
- All my phone calls, sms, and mms work fine
- When I unlock my phone and open the web browser, it sometimes takes a while to start loading the web page. Similarly, when I manually load my email (in the gmail app by swiping down) it takes longer than normal.
- When I send an email, it takes a while to actually send
- With this new ATT micro sim, the network is no longer called "Home" (like it was with the other sim), it now has "AT&T". I'm guessing this has something to do with me not being able to switch back to the old APN settings.
My current APN Settings are:
Name: Straighttalk ATT
apn: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: (insert new straighttalk mmsc, I'm not allowed to post urls and this is a url I guess)
MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33
MMS Port: 80
APN Type: default,supl,mms,admin,internet,hipri
I'm running android 4.4.2 with the .98 radio, or in other words simply stock android.
Ookla Speedtest: 5.25/1.13 mbps and 160ms ping. It does lag when doing the upload portion of the test (i don't know if that's significant)
And everything else is left on default. If there is anyone else with the same problem let me know and I'd be glad to troubleshoot and if there is anyone that would like to help me with troubleshooting it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have the exact same issue as you, only on a Nexus 5. I had a 2 year old StraightTalk Sim in my Nexus 5 with no sync issues at all. I ordered a new Sim card from Straight talk to get LTE on AT&T. Since using popping in the new Sim Card I experience sync issues with Gmail when the phone screen goes into sleep mode. If the phone screen is on and I send myself an email from a secondary account, it appears immediatly on my phone. As soon as my screen goes to sleep, sync stops working.
On my old StraightTalk Sim, I used att.mvno for APN settings. On the new StraightTalk SIM I use tfdata for APN Setting. My new StraightTalk APN settings are similar to yours except for APN Type. I'm using default, mms, supl, agps, fota, dun, hipri, entitle as instructed on Android Central in these screenshots - forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-5/334715-straight-talk-lte-t-sim-nexus-5-sweet-2.html
Called straighttalk customer service and they told me if I swapped Sims I needed to delete the old StraightTalk APN and re-add it back. Didn't fix my problem.

I experience and observe the same situation. I too tried to go back to a ST ATT sim w/ an att.mvno APN. I had an old sim card I hadn't used that had instructions saying use att.mvno for data. I transferred my number to it online but the final instructions said to use tfdata. I guess all AT&T sims going forward now activate under tfdata for data.
When u tested the T-Mobile sim, was it a straight talk sim, a postpaid sim, or a T-Mobile mvno sim?

After days of research it seems it is Fast Dormancy that is the culprit. Some carriers support it and others do not. Some phones have it enabled by default and some do not. It looks like the Nexus 5 has it enabled by default without a way to disable it...unless you root. These posts outline the issue and seems to offer a solution if you're willing to root and change build.prop.

A straight talk sim (using T-mobile's network) worked perfectly fine for me. In the end I switched away from ST and I got added to a friend's tmobile plan and saved a ton of money and I haven't had a problem with syncing since then. It is obvious an APN issue from Straighttalk, unfortunately.
I kinda want to avoid T-Mobile coverage so I did some back to basics tinkering and got my phones notification delay down to 3 minutes. I deleted all the pre-set APNs and created a new one using STs websites recommendation. The only difference from the previous APNs was I left the APN type field blank. No default, supl, mms. Surprisingly data worked, as well as MMS. Then I installed push notification fixer and changed the poll time. I put mobile heartbeat to 2 mins, and WiFi heartbeat to 1 min. I restarted the phone and for the past couple of days my notifications have been coming in w/in 3 mins. It's not the most instantaneous but it works for me.

I wanted to report back since I was experiencing this same issue on a Nexus 5 on Straight Talk AT&T compatible 4G SIM. I originally had a non-4G AT&T compaitible SIM from Straight Talk (for the past 2 years) using APN type: att.mvno in the APN settings (other settings were exactly what Straight Talk suggested on their website). This original sim was a full-sized sim used in a Galaxy S (original model) with no data issues whatsoever. I purchased a Nexus 5, cut this sim into a micro sim and expererienced NO data issues on the Nexus 5.
After my current minutes ran out on this sim, I ordered a new Straight Talk AT&T sim card because the new ones support 4G. When I popped the Straight Talk AT&T 4g Sim into my Nexus 5 I had to change the APN type from att.mvno to tfdata to get data to work. I INSTANTLY started having issues for the entire month of service noticing that my signal bars were orange 90% of the time I checked my signal. I tried numerous suggestions (factory reset, delete/readd APN, installed Push Notification Fix and Data Connection Fix apps and chose 3G instead of LTE in data settings - which seemed to work but only for a day before reverting back to data issues).
I'm now at the end of the month on my 4G ATT Straight Talk sim and with 1 week to go I decided to add 1 month of service to my original Straight Talk ATT sim (which is 2 years old and using att.mvno for APN type). As soon as I popped the old non-4G ATT Straight Talk sim card into my Nexus all data issues were resolved. I removed all the "data fix" apps and changed my APN type to att.mvno. I've been using the non 4G ATT Straightalk Sim card for 3 days in my Nexus 5 with no issues at all. Signal bars are always white and my google services sync instantly when a new email, Google Voice text, calendar event come in. Of course, I do not have 4G but at least I have pretty fast hspa speeds - which are faster and more prevalent in my area than T-mobile.
I can only speculate but there was a short span of time that ATT stopped allowing STraight talk to seel their sims. When they started allowing stratight talk to sell their sims again this is when STratight talk started switching everyone to tfdata for apn type. I suspect that ATT has increased the TCP idle time for MVNO's so they dont hammer the ATT network and affect direct ATT customers - but like I said that's just this guys opinion. I hope straight talk fixes this issue for those folks using ATT 4G sims but in the meantime, if you have an older sim, smoke em while you got em.
Op said he tried all apns on xda. I suggest this, keep the tfdata apn the same as straight talk recommends, but make the apn tfdata 1. All else the same. The only time I get delayed notifications is on Miui on wifi. Hope it helps.

So, I will start by giving information that is hopefully relevant.
I moved from Verizon to Straight Talk w/ a Straight Talk SIM card for Verizon towers. My phone is rooted, and bootloader unlocked (15 emmc).
I am currently using a custom ROM CM13 (Official Build Nightlies current ROM is from 4-27-2016)
I started Straight talk about 1 week ago, and ported my number over to ST with a sim card I bought from Amazon for Verizon Towers.
When a person starts ST they give you a free 5 day trial, then you start your monthly payments. Everything was fine during the 5 day trial, I HAD data and it was connecting at 4G/LTE speeds (Mobile Network Icon displayed "Verizon"). Then, when the trial ended and my refill card kicked in, I lost all data connection. Absolutely NO internet. In fact, the mobile network icon in the status bar (pull down menu) displayed "No Service," I then called ST customer service, they were able to get me connected but only at 3G speeds (However the mobile network Icon still displayed "No Service." I have coverage in this area I live in for 4G/LTE as I used it in this area for 2 years when I was with Verizon. The CS rep (who was a supervisor) then tried to get me connected at 4G. Long story short, they could not get me connected, in fact I lost data again. (I should mention that at this time I can still place and recieve calls as well as send and receive text messages.) The CS rep then contacted Verizon and now they are sending me a new SIM card. My question is, What is the difference between the CM13 Unofficial VS Official Build? Could this be affecting my DATA connection? The unofficial builds can be found in the Galaxy S5 Verizon Development Threads. Can't remember where I found the official builds, but is the official Cyanogenmod site. I do have the link, but I don't have enough posts to show. Could I possibly be using the wrong ROM? Or is it something on Straight Talks side? Or have I missed something? Could this problem be a symptom of using the DEV Bootloader unlock method for Samsung 15 emmc? I would appreciate some insight on this. I should be receiving my new SIM hopefully in a few days or by the beginning of next week so I can update more when that comes. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Response is very much appreciated, unfortunately for some reason these APN settings do not work, ("No Service" is displayed with no signal bars under the mobile network icon in the pull down menu from the status bar) I have tried other various APN settings from random forums, and youtube. None have worked. Maybe my SIM card is corrupted possibly? I guess I will have to wait and see when Str8 Talk sends me my new SIM card. Will update/post new info when I know more. Thanks.
funny you should say that, today I don't have data or a signal at all (at work). I'll report back if that changes at home later today. It could be a sim issue or just a straight talk issue.

Interesting, glad to know I'm not the only one in this situation. Thanks. I will be sure to update this post as well when I know more. Thanks.
so the way I finally fixed it was to reload CM13 and use the last APN to edit with my settings and not delete the others. Don't know why it mattered but I'm up and running

Yeah, tried editing the last APN as you suggested, still nothing. However I can connect to the tower (still with "No Service" indication) to receive phone calls and mms. But still no data. My new SIM card arrives in the mail 2 moro. Hopefully that is the issue.
If you're unable to edit the APN settings, I'd think that it was a faulty SIM card. Keep us notified, I'd be glad to help if possible.

Well, I am able to edit my APN settings, just the settings I have tried from XDA and other random forums/youtube/etc. just have not been working. As I have mentioned I am receiving my new SIM from Str8Talk 2moro, so hopefully a faulty SIM is the issue. Thanks for all the responses everyone, and I will keep everyone updated.
This is what worked for me. I am running daily CM13and been very happy. I edited the last APN entry and it saved fine.

APN: TRACFONE.VZWENTP
MCC: 311

SOLVED
Well received my new SIM card. Apparently the old SIM wasn't letting me connect to the towers. Old SIM card displayed "No Service" under the Mobile Network icon. I called CS they activated my new SIM. New SIM card displayed "Verizon Wireless." However I still wasn't able to get data. They then escalated the ticket. After I hung up the phone I tried these APN settings:

These worked, not sure if the previously mentioned APN settings would of worked as I did not try them with my new SIM card. It could very well be that those APN settings would of worked too. So, long story short I'm thinking the original SIM I used became corrupted somehow. Not sure how that could of happened but everything is functioning properly. I then called ST CS and had them close my ticket before they made any more changes to my account from their side. Thanks to all who replied to this thread.
Thought I would provide another update... For some reason the APN settings for TRACFONE.VZWENTP stopped working today. Called straight talk and got data working again using the VZWINTERNET apn setting. So weird. Not sure why I'm updating this thread but I thought it was important? LOL probably not, because straight talk seems to be a Sh** storm. LOL IM GOING CRAZY!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeee
APN not working for me
Hello, I had straight talk last year on my unrooted verizon samsung galaxy s5 and had no problems with the apn settings. I rooted my phone about 2 months ago using this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370. Today I decided to reactivate my straight talk service and I have tried multiple apns and none of them seem to work. Also the apn on this forum wouldn't even save on my phone. Any idea on what i should do? Maybe I need a new sim card?

Update, i finally got my data working. I had to use a new sim card as well. I am currently using the verizon CDMA sim card that came in the byop pack. Been having some issues receiving text and mms messages tho and the apn used is what is on this forum since it is compatible with the sim without making any changes.
Have GS4 using on Straight Talk VZW towers but have been unable to get 4G working 3G is doing ok. Was changing apn settings to this post and also noticed that i am unable to input manually the APN type....options being (Internet+MMS) (Internet) and (MMS)
may be a bad sim as well but just wanted to chime in and see if anyone had run into similar issues.
Thanks in advance!!

I would just try to talk to Straight Talk about it, it could be the sim card, or it could be the phone number you currently have. I just reactivated my service hoping no one else had my number but they did which had ended that person's service, which was why i was having a difficult time receiving text and mms. Now that i have a new number and used a new sim card everything works fine. I also can't manually change the Verizon apn but so far i have no need to change it.
Same issues but I have a Galaxy Sky Pro. Straight talk and verizon towers. Tried changing APN, NO luck. It will only let me change my APN, NOTHING ELSE????? It is a straight talk phone???? HELP!
I just got my Galaxy s5 as an upgrade and I put in my sim card. Everything works as expected, good call quality, good texts but when I'm on the train for work, where there isn't any wifi, my data doesn't work, nor does any other place without wifi. I look under system settings and it says not roaming and other things. I look under my data settings and there isn't an option to turn on roaming. I'm right now paying for something I can't use, what do I do? If it matters, I'm on consumer cellular right now.
Roaming means it allows you to switch to a different carriers network, when you are outside of the coverage of your own carriers network
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roaming
If you are within the coverage of your own carrier, you should be able to use data normally, if not, call your carrier and ask them what's wrong, probably just need the service settings sent to the phone to set up data
Or try adding the APN settings manually
