Data not working - Atrix 4G General

I have data on my atrix but I still cant get the data to work
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App

There was an error in the activation process with my wifes phone and she did not have data. had to get the store to fix it. just call or go in to a store.

make sure it has the hspa+ version of the data plan. Also, if you ordered online call the 800 number listed in the shipping packet to accept the terms and conditions. That would fix it.

I checked on my att account and my data package is there and I did accept the terms and agreements. Now i'm started to think I didn't enable it or something how do I know if its enabled?

Go to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>APNs
See what's selected. I have a really old plan so I had to insert a custom APN...

I'd try calling... I had everything set up and had actually talked to AT&T a couple hours earlier to get everything sorted out. Sure enough, I go to try and use data and it's not there.

Yea I went to radio shack today to get mine and it took them a long time and they ended up calling ATT.
The data plan was causing problems but they got it sorted out on the spot.
Rooted/ROM Captivate
Rooted Atrix

For my phone AT&T US HSDPA is selected

Not even getting 3g on att

Got this phone yesterday, had no data plan previously so I had to get one. Went into att store to get micro Sim and data plan. It took forever because n4 imei wasn't in their system and giving them the number lead to further confusion. One hour later I ended up with a working Sim and they entered a generic imei number. Calling and texting works fine but I'm having data issues. I sometimes get HSPA but then the service drops back to edge and never comes back to HSPA. Rebooting sometimes fixes, but most of the time it gets stuck on edge. I know my area has great HSPA and 3g coverage because my friend has an hspa phone. Is there something I can do to fix? Or if I call att, what do I tell them to do to fix?
Thanks.

Just wondering, what data plan did you get?
3gb $30 a month.

You made sure to set the APN correctly?
How do I set the APN? I'm new to smart phones, att just handed me the phone after putting micro sim in it. I looked at the mobile network settings and I'm not sure what they should be set to.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Turn off phone, take out sim card. Blow on it or do whatever voodoo you prefer. Put back in and turn phone back on.
Report back.
Changed APN settings to match this and rebooted. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791526
Getting HSPA+ now, I'll see if it stays that way.
Thanks.
Go into APN settings, tap menu, then restore default APN and see if that helps
You should be able to get unlimited data for $15 because its not a smartphone thats in their system as you said. So, technically, its considered a dumb simple phone, which gets the data plan $15 or unlimited text and data for $20. I was planning to get this plan once I receive my back ordered device...AT&T probably put you the smartphone data plan because they saw it was a smartphone. I would call the ATT customer service and re-give them your IMEI number to get the unlimited data.
Their system was detecting it needing a blackberry plan, trust me, I tried getting the cheaper one. And apparently after a couple of months they will figure out you are using a smartphone.

you dont need to do that. the phone automatically assigns the att one.
atleast mine did
Turns out I did. Atts network gave me the settings for edge and I had to change it manually.

I did that with my current phone, and now Super Mario loads properly. Thanks!
Now it appears when I reach a low signal strength area I get edge and once I leave that area it doesn't transition back to HSPA+. Anyone else having this problem?
Edit: I've tried a bunch of APN settings found on this forum and now I'm not even getting HSPA. WHYYYYYY?

Force WCDMA (UMTS/HSPA) Only
My Samsung Vibrant had issues staying on 3G, and this solved the problem. So here's how to force it to only use UMTS/HSPA. Phone -> *#*#4636#*#* -> Phone information -> scroll to the drop-down list -> select "WCDMA only" -> wait for it to apply, then enjoy 3G. To enable EDGE again, select "WCDMA preferred"

[Q] Nexus 4 data radio problem?

I'm a smartphone noob [though slightly above-average with technology in general] - the Nexus 4 is my first smartphone, and I've been lurking here for a week looking for all possible solutions for my problem and none have worked, so please bear with the longish post:
Nexus 4 16GB, bought from the US Play store - using it since Monday, Dec 10. I'm using it with a Straight Talk AT&T SIM, and I have *no cellular data* whatsoever. I have been using the phone for a week now, and I haven't been able to use the internet except on wifi. No 3G/EDGE/HSPA+ logos next to the signal bars - in fact the signal bars always grey when wifi is off. I have only seen the signal bars turn blue when the wifi is on, never on a cellular network.
APN settings have been verified, and tens (yes, TENS) of Straight Talk reps have said my account seems to be provisioned correctly and good to go. I have tried all the alternative APN settings suggested for Straight Talk on various forums, including the two-APN configuration for MMS and data, deleting the data proxy from the APN settings, reverting to the default APN settings on the SIM and even using the Straight Talk T-Mobile APN [though I know for sure mine is an AT&T SIM because T-Mo doesn't cover my workplace, where I have good signal strength].
My old device was an AT&T locked dumbphone, so I couldn't change the APN settings on it to use the data on StraightTalk, but when I put my Straight Talk SIM in, it shows the 3G logo next to the signal bars suggesting that my StraightTalk account is probably provisioned correctly for data.
Hard reset, repeated reboots and repeated toggling of data and airplane modes have all been tried, and nothing has changed the situation. I have perfect voice and text messaging connectivity and zero data.
As a smartphone noob - is there a separate radio in the phone for data connections, and is it possible that this radio alone is a lemon on my phone? I *do not* have access to another micro-SIM, unfortunately - CDMA is popular in my town and the only two of my friends who have phones with removable SIMs probably won't appreciate having their regular SIMs cut down to micro for me to test. Without being able to test it, I don't know if I should just RMA it either.
***UPDATE*** : FIXED
I got a T-Mobile SIM to test the phone, and data worked perfectly well on that, so I concluded it probably wasn't the phone. T-Mobile wasn't an option for me though, because they have crappy reception in most of my town.
Happened to travel to Boston, tried my StraightTalk SIM in a friend's phone there - data worked fine then. So now I didn't know if it was the phone or the SIM.
After three weeks of grief and fighting, I got StraightTalk to send me a replacement SIM, which fixed the issue immediately - I had full HSPA data connectivity within five minutes of dialing their number to have my SIM activated.
Turn on Mobile data?
Have you enabled the 3G/mobile data switch built into android? Settings > Wireless & data > More > Mobile Networks > data Enabled Tick that if its unchecked, Im still waiting for mine but my HTC explorer running a vanila flavour of ICS has a similar settings menu, its somewhere along those lines bud, post back with results. As i said might be in a different location due to the differing OS versions
Good luck mate, Blewk
EDIT: Nevermind ive just opened my eyes and noticed you've tried it xD
so try calling this number *#*#4636#*#* and going through each of those settings (apart from LTE of course) see if any of them give you a Data connection. constantly checking the data switch on the phone at all times though making sure its enabled If this offers no luck im out of ideas for you mate

So what are your APN setting? Can't really trust CSRs since they aren't using a Nexus 4 to test themselves.

I've attached screenshots with the current settings, which are the ones the CSRs recommended.
I have also tried
deleting the proxy+port
changing both proxies to addressort format
changing the APN type to "default, supl, mms".
editing the SIM's default APN values to these, instead of creating a new APN.
and various combinations of these. None of these have helped. (I reboot and wait 30-45 minutes after every change in these settings).
EDIT: addressort is address(colon)port. Forgot to disable smilies.
Try changing your MMS Proxy to 66.209.11.33 see if that helps. Its the only difference I can see.

Thank you, I've tried that too. Since my other phone (without the correct APN) still shows the 3G logo next to the signal bars and the Nexus 4 doesn't show any data speed indications, is it safe to assume the issue is with the device and not the network?

Thanks. I was trying just that (saw the *#*#4636#*#* code on another forum), and none of the options work. I'm wondering if that means my radio is dead. I don't want that to be the case, but I can't think of another explanation
You appear to not have an APN type set up.

I think I have the same problem as the OP. In my case, the HSPA radio connects about 50% of the time after a reboot. In my case, I'm convinced that the loss of signal is attributed to failure to communicate with the SIM card.
For the OP: Are your signal bars grey? or is it just an outline of a triangle on its side? If it's just an outline, the phone sees the SIM card, but cant retrieve the necessary data. To confirm, install a SIM info app from the Play store and see if the app see all details of the sim card.
I have already replaced the sim card, assuming I had a defective SIM, but the new card has not resolved the issue.
At this point, I think I need to RMA my phone.

It looks like the SIM details are being seen - I have voice and texting capabilities, and my signal bars are present but grey. Sorry to hear about your phone - my data connection is out 100% of the time though.
I've ordered a T-Mobile SIM to check this out - this way I should be able to figure out whether it's the network or the SIM.
Update: I've tried a T-Mo SIM and it works perfectly. So it's not the device.
However T-Mo isn't actually a viable option for me because they have very limited coverage where I live. Straight Talk keep telling me their provisioning is okay - any way to check on this? What other issues could I possible have that might be causing this?

Are you sure you have AT&T 3G coverage near you? I looked on AT&T's map for my work place and it shows 3G coverage but the entire county only gets 2G EDGE. And EDGE is horribly slow, I can't download anything. Went to Wal-Mart there and went to the wireless store and they confirmed that there is no 3G coverage in the area except for Verizon (which I had before this phone). I have an app called Network Signal Info, it will tell you what type of data network you are connecting too even when on wifi. It tells me EDGE2 at work HSPA at home.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.android.telnet&hl=en Network Signal Info
Edit: just wanted to add that I read somewhere in a thread here that the colors blue and gray only signify if you are connected to google services or not. Blue you're connected, gray you're not.

Dead sure - as I said in my original post, I put my SIM back in my old (locked) dumbphone and it shows the 3G logo - though I can't use data on that phone because I'm locked out of the APN settings. And colleagues at work with have HSPA+ on AT&T. I can't try their SIMs though, because they don't use micro-SIM.
As for signal bar colours - even if there is no Google connectivity, it should at least show me a 3G or H/H+ next to the signal bars, which doesn't happen - and I cannot access anything on the internet anyway. I tried actually accessing the internet via the browser and various apps, I'm not deciding my connectivity based on the bar colours.
ALSO: When I use *#*#4636#*#* to turn the radio off and then on again, "GPRS service" goes to "connecting" but eventually stops at "disconnected". And the "network type" in that menu says "HSPA", so it looks like the network is kicking me off though I can't for the life of me say why that's happening.

I'm constantly get this issue where the signal bar becomes just an outline every minute or so and I lose connection. When this is happening sms becomes erratic (I receive texts multiple times sometimes 20-30 minutes after it was first sent, texts are received in the wrong order, cannot send texts until i restart phone).
Possibly hardware issue?
I had the same problem... could connect to the wireless network only if wireless data was disabled or WIFI was on.
Ordered a replacement which came today, and all is good Seems to be a hardware issue.

I to am having the same problem connecting to data networks. I have had the nexus 4 for about 2 weeks and its been an amazing phone until this morning when I had no data connection in town and around town. My iPhone 4 has 3G connection in the same area, with the same sim card. Ive already looked around the net and found the post to reset the radio but nothing happened. After not having radio or data for about 2 hours my phone finally fixed its self. I have no clue why I lost data connection or how it fixed its self. I will stay posted to see what happens but maybe there is some bad hardware in the device that is just now starting to surface.???
Hi I appear to have the same problem. My phone is able to make calls/text and etc with data off but when data is turned back on it screws around, doesnt connect to the internet, grey outline on service and etc. I'm thinking this is an hardware issue but how would I go and exchange this. One more thing, I bought this brand new from someone, does that matter?

If you want to RMA your phone, you can transfer the ownership by calling Google Play support. You will need the device IMEI and the email address of the original purchaser. Just tell them the phone was gifted to you. After the ownership is transferred, you can begin the RMA process.

$30 T-Mobile Phone Sim Works in Vzw G Pad

Hey, just wanted to let people know that I took the T-Mobile sim from my phone with the $30/month 5gb plan, popped it in my new VZW Gpad, set the APN, and bam, I had 4G T-mobile service. Not sure if it will last or if T-mo will get mad, but it's a prepaid plan so I can't imagine they'll care.
Well, tmobile's 200MB free data plan works too (for now).
Couldn't activate a unused Sim directly on the tablet (redirected to T-Mobile site when Sim is inserted, but said "device not supported"). A pre-activated Sim works
Since I have postpaid tmobile as well, I have the 1GB free plan, and it throttles to 2g when I go over(free 200mb users get hard cut off instead of throttle)
Verizon's prepaid data plans obviously works too, but its very hard to get a Verizon Sim to use ( they get deactivated after 6? Months of no active plans, need to get one from fleabay. Most Verizon stores refuse to give out Sim cards , or would activate you for postpaid even if you asked for prepaid ). $30 for 2GB
My postpaid T-Mobile -phone- sim works great on my Verizon sold N7; T-Mobile must not recognize them.
I was able to successfully add my T-Mobile sim. Once APN was modified, worked like a charm...however, received notification that "Tablet Activate not complete". Once restarted, the radio was no longer picking up signal. Had to do a factory reset and tried again with similar result.
Thoughts?

It's entirely possible that Verizon has disallowed the use of other sims, which would be a shame, but I could definitely see it happening. I don't have experience with it as I'm now on Verizon, but I'm sure there are other people that are trying to find a work around. I'll post if I hear of anything.

How do you preactivate a sim card? I got a sim card from tmobile online and it didnt work so i had to call them and i had to pay to get service.
T-mobile yes and no.
10.00 Walgreens SIM card.
Local T-Mobile store rolled eyes.and told me I was mistaken "T-Mobile doesn't offer free data if you don't have a Tmobile account"
Even the 200mb free advertised on the T-Mobile website (more rolling of the eyes!)
Asked to speak to manager and store manger said yeah we did that for a short time but no longer.
"what website says we still offer it?"
*T-Mobile" ok lemme check, can I have your drivers license to do a credit check?
UH NO...
Called in and after 20 minutes (explaining same stuff again.) the rep says the T-mobile recognizes the VK810 IMEI number as a Phone so I can't qualify for free 200MB tablet data. Sorry.
Funny I added 10.00 when I was trying to activate it myself so I had them apply that to 1GB 1 Week plan and it worked flawlessly.
But no they wouldn't activate it as free tablet 200mb plan.
TL:dr
has anyone had luck activating the free BYOT 200mb plan on the VK810?
GPad on ATT
Does anyone know if this tablet has the bands to support ATT LTE? I'd like to buy one from Verizon, and use on ATT. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the link. I have LTE working in my tablet, but can't get internet sharing to work. Could anyone get internet sharing to work with a tmo sim?
Rooted or Unrooted
I have a rooted G Pad that I reverted back to 4.2.2 in order to try my tmobile sim in. I entered all the APN settings in both 4.4.2 & 4.2.2 and nothing.
Maybe I should try to unroot?
Just an update for anyone who is interested in this still.
I bought an almost brand new LG G pad from Verizon. Saw this thread and decided that I was going to try it.
I got the device with 4.4.2 android. Haven't done any modifications. No root. No downgrading. Build: KOT49I.VK81022B. Software: VK81022B.
Went into the TMobile store. Asked for a sim with a tablet plan activated on it. I had taken the sim tray out of the Verizon tablet to show him the size of the sim. Wasn't sure of the correct size. The guy started giving me the speil on how it must be unlocked, I really should buy a device from them etc. I told him not to worry. Sell me the sim. He finally obliged. Before leaving the store I asked to try it out on a TMobile branded tablet to make sure data was coming through. It was.
Came home. Put in the sim into the device. It wanted to be rebooted. I did, thinking that maybe it would be that easy. It wasn't. I needed to set the APN. Settings> More> Mobile Networks> Access Point Names.
I only set 3 things in there.
Name: TMobile
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
Everything else was left unaltered.
Rebooted and BAM. Net access. Yes. Wifi was turned off. After reboot there is a notification that the tablet couldn't be activated. I just cleared it out. No affect on the device's net access.
Not sure if I'll be able to get the 200 mb free net access. We'll see.
I signed up for Google Voice using the wife's phone. Using hangouts I can send/receive text messages. With the hangouts dialer added on top of that I can send/receive phone calls. I was getting my text messages coming to hangouts and my email too but after playing around with some settings in Google Voice I finally got things sorted.
Gpad 8.3 - 5GB LTE - Google Voice? Yes please.
Awesome!
This is exactly what I am HOPING to do with my Verizon 8.3/Tmobile 5GB LTE/Google Voice combo.
I will see if I can get the same result with my sim.

Those settings worked for me as well! 5GB LTE on the LG 8.3! Now to fix what isn't broken...

Non Verizon Nexus 6 Booted off the Network.

Verizon Booted me from the Network
4 Months ago I moved to Big Red with my N6.
The signal wasn't as strong as my other Verizon devices which I found odd. I lived about 2 miles away from a Verizon tower and on this device I was only connected 45-50% of the time while at home.
After the first 3 weeks I was still frustrated with the poor signal and I read online everyone cried foul on Google(or Motorola), so forced a PRL update to see if that would fix the issue:
I lost LTE connectivity.
I was connected to 3G but I had no service.
I re entered the APN, nothing.
I took the SIM out put it back in, nothing.
I read online that someone else had a similar issue with the Nexus 6 on Verizon and the only way to resolve the issue was to replace the SIM and that's what I did, LTE service was restored.
About 2 weeks ago I moved about a mile further away from my nearest Verizon tower, so I'm about 3 miles away from a Verizon tower and 80-85% of the time at home I'm not connected.
Today:
Around 3 PM I was in the city and my LTE was fine, I had bars, I had a signal, nothing had changed on my end but I was unable to send text messages, I kept getting this message "Can't send message with CARD 1 error 98" And when I spoke with my sister she said she had been trying to call me for the last 3 hours.
So I contacted Verizon and asked if there was an outage in my area, they said no so I went on to explain the issue(s), and I was told by the customer service rep that my phone wasn't making a connection to the Verizon network, they couldn't see my phone and I needed tech support. Which made sense because of the poor signal all of the time.
So I called Verizon tech support. And the service rep said that I need to enable roaming by entering
PHP:
*22898
This did not fix my issue but maybe it could benefit someone else on Big Red.
I told them the error code and Tech support said we need to check if your phone has dual SIM, I said no it is a Nexus 6 it does not have a second SIM slot I don't care what the error message said. Then I was directed to another tech rep and he said "your phone is NOT a Verizon Nexus 6 and we cannot find it on our network, your phone will not activate on our network, your IMEI is not available to activate on our network" I said wait a minute. I understand the whole FCC ruling and months ago this was suppose to be resolved(I read the post here on XDA). I went online activated the phone when I moved my Nexus 6 over to Verizon, it shows up as a Non Verizon Nexus 6. It allowed me to activate it. It took the IMEI and now they are telling me, NOT ANY MORE!?
I was transferred to a supervisor. He said the same thing, he said he would try to reset everything for my phone but still poor signal and still I have no idea what calls or messages I'm missing and a few text messages are not being sent. I'm on call 24/7 but it looks like I'm going to have to go back to AT&T or T-Mobile.
I believe the poor signal issue is not only Google but also Verizon is still keeping us off the network for the most part and only allowing us to piggyback the rest of the time. Maybe I'm wrong but I hope my 3 hours wasted helps someone else with a similar experience.
I thought I also read somewhere that T-Mobile shut off Band 12. Seriously what the hell is going on with these carriers.

I have VZW and I am not seeing any of the issues that occurred before VZM finally allowed the Non VZM N6s on Network.
- I can still make account changes
- I still have my monthly discount.
Those are typically the two easiest ways to see if you have a supported phone or not. I think you may have signal quality issues but I think those reps may have been wrong. I have a GPS N6 though what version do you have?

Are you 100% stock?
Even if you are, you might try flashing the latest factory image to restore phone to out of box settings.
The reason I am suggesting this is because I had the same issue on my previous phone(HTC M8) with Verizon. I tried everything you have tried and nothing worked until I RUU'd back to stock and it magically started working again.
I realize the M8 is a completely different phone, but if all else has failed it is worth a shot.
FYI, *228, *22898, & *22899 do not work on any LTE enabled VZW device. That is/was used on 3G devices for updating the PRL. In very early LTE devices, dialing that could have actually caused the phone to stop working. It's been fixed now so it doesn't do anything. With the SIM card, the PRL updates automatically when the device connects to the network, so you don't need to dial anything to get the latest PRL.
As for fixing your problem, the only other suggesting I'd say is to try just getting a new SIM card and see if the problem continues.
I find it odd that you are having all of these problems. I originally got my Nexus 6 from Sprint. I am now using Straight Talk. I bought the BYOP kit that came with 9 sim cards, a Verizon activation code, and the $45 monthly service card. The sim cards you get are for Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. (Regular, Micro, Nano for each) I went the Verizon route for obvious reasons. I have had zero problems with service and my LTE is twice as fast as when I was on Sprint. When I look at my lock screen it even says "Verizon Wireless" in the top left corner.
I have yet to experience any of the issues you are having. I know I am not "directly" on Verizon like you are, but that is why I wanted to bring this to your attention. If you would like Verizon coverage on your Nexus 6 for $45 a month check out Straight Talk. You get unlimited talk, text, data. Data is 5GB of LTE then throttled. I have heard the only difference is that you can't quite roam / utilize the partner coverage that someone directly on Verizon can. I have yet to come across anywhere that I have not had signal though.

100% Stock, locked bootloader, no root. I might try that if all else fails, I have an invite to project fi. I was thinking about trying it out even though sprint was horrible in my area and I doubt it has improved.

I have been running on straight talk for years across many devices. There is almost no difference. Yes they throttle you after like 4gb or something but I havew never reached that limit with wifi everywhere

The SIM card has nothing to do with reception. Have you tried a new SIM since the problem started? I suggested it to fix your problem of having no service, not to get a better signal.
+1 on reflashing stock images.
Same problem I had with Verizon on straight talk. I went through so much bs with these people, with same issues you had. It seemed like it was still stuck in GSM or something, and the only band that would work was band 6 on 2g. I could send mms and browse the internet, but a phone call would hang up immediately. USA Band wouldn't work WHATSOEVER.
I called customer service and talked to about 6 different people, all who told me my phone wouldn't work on VZW. When I told them they were full of crap, they would transfer me to somebody else. I finally found someone who ended up changing my phone number on the spot and gave me 5 more gigs of data, but my n6 still wouldn't work; I could call out, but no data or MMS/internet.
I was on the verge of saying **** Verizon. I reflashed factory images and everything was smooth sailing and worked properly. I think there is a bug when you change your radios, something fudges up.
The Verizon straight talk plan is nice if you can get around the hurdles I faced. The only downside, besides what I have already mentioned, is they cap your max speed at 5 mb/s when downloading. I live in an area where ATT rules all, but Verizon picks up LTE in places ATT can't even get 2g (whereas ATT ST downloads around 20+mb/s)... so you'll have to compromise.
FWIW, if you ever hear a customer service rep tell you that they cannot change your phone number without sending you a new sim card, that's a damn lie.
Also, here are my apns to compare with yours. I did not touch these after flashing. I read somewhere that these were the old ones, but they work perfectly.
Using a non Verizon n6 with no issues. I had a local repair shop cut my micro Sim to a nano Sim,and I've been up and running since June. Too bad you are having issues.

The thread owner is on Verizon directly, not Straight Talk. I just offered him the idea. I am using Straight Talk (Verizon Sim Card) with my Nexus 6 and I have had zero issues. When you are on stock / flash stock images, when you boot up your phone, the proper APN settings will load right up and LTE will take off. Works great. Now, what you need to do is write these APN settings down, precisely. I have noticed that sometimes when you flash a custom ROM, the APN settings won't load automatically.
This just happened to me when I flashed "The Pure Nexus Project". I ended up with no data. I manually entered the APN settings and boom. Full data, LTE, MMS, etc

Verizon compatibility broken after update?

Hey guys, I just saw a YouTube video that was posted yesterday where the guy shows that after the update he no longer could connect with his Verizon SIM card in the axon 7. Has anybody else run into this? Mine won't be here until Monday but if this is true I'm going to be sorely disappointed. Thanks for your input.
I am on verizon with no additional problems after the update. I am still always roaming, and my signal is the same (more bars but still the same reception). LTE, MMS, SMS, Cdma all work the same.
I'm really glad to hear that. I'm not so sure the guy knew what he was doing either... Lol :silly:

Quick question for you bud. I currently have the Moto Z-Force, but I want an unlocked phone that I can root and mess around with and unfortunately this phone doesn't have that capability. Would you say this is a great alternative in terms of functionality and specs? Tia

My VZW situation. Just an FYI post AND how to fix it.
I'm on Verizon, have had my Axon 7 for over a month now. No issues other than not having VoLTE, and the occasional software farts (Using Nova Launcher now). When I initially set-up my phone, I imported all previous apps directly from the Play Store. I should have known not to install the VZW apps that were previously installed on my HTC One M8 (purchased directly from VZW), but in my excitement for the new phone, it skipped my mind. Anyhow, no issues through 9/19. "Verizon" displayed as my carrier, and full access to the LTE network.
Fast forward to 9/20 (post B27 update) when one of the VZW updated automatically (I don't recall which of the 2 apps I had installed), and BAMM, "123456" displayed as my carrier and no more access to the LTE network (3G only). Later that evening, my VZW account showed my number with an "unauthorized, non-VZW device", whereas, before the VZW app update it showed my HTC one M8. I removed the SIM and shut down the phone, re-installed the SIM and re-booted....nada. Tried what seemed to be every permutation of replacing the SIM card, played around with APN settings...no dice.
My feeling is they booted me off 4G LTE once the app recognized I was using an unauthorized, non-VZW device. The steps below solved the issue (Provided by "vzwcdma" via the ZTE Community Forum).
"As for losing LTE connectivity, I've had a similar problem before, both on the A7 and other devices. On other devices, like Motorola devices, I could just boot into the bootloader and clear the modem state partitions via fastboot, but ZTE seems to have disabled that function in the A7's bootloader. So, for the A7, I had to mess around a bit with the modem mode. Download "Network" or "4G LTE Switch" from the Play Store. Open it and scroll down to "Set preferred network type", where it should say "LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)". There isn't really a set guide for what you have to do, but try switching into LTE-only mode, try hitting "Turn off radio" and "Turn on radio" (not Airplane Mode), maybe try "LTE/CDMA audo (PRL)", maybe turn off radio, switch to LTE-only mode, turn on radio, etc. At some point (I'm not sure what) the phone will reset its modem state, and should re-connect to Verizon LTE (and when it does, switch the network type back to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto PRL.
My Verizon account also shows "unauthorized, non-VZW device". Shouldn't affect anything. I've been using an unauthorized/non-VZW device prior to the A7 with no issues as well."

Verizon still working fine for me.
After the b27 update I saw improved signal strength. I'm on page plus mvno. After driving in a fringe reception area, I lost lte,and I showed as roaming. It seemed to be using boost Mobile from what the phones network menus displayed. Axon doesn't have a mobile network setting for 'system b', only auto & home only. Tried both, rebooting each time, no fix. I ended up resetting phone, fixed it all. I then switched mobile network to home only, and hoping that it's done.
PS-after b27 I had to re-enable a couple settings, pinch for screen shot, etc.
Edit: it's now been several weeks with it set to home network only. I daily drive in fringe reception areas and have better signal strength than ever, with any phone/carrier combo. All is great, no more issues. Great phone!
For reference, I'm on page plus mvno, dropped in my activated sim from my old phone into the right-side sim slot for CDMA services. Then set to home only. Done.
Sent from my Axon 7 using XDA Labs
Just wanted to see if anyone else had inputs of post update Verizon service, good and bad... hasn't been a ton of chatter in the last week. I have a phone on its way from the egg, trying to decide if it's worth starting a new sim card with Verizon and dealing with that work around... is getting the number off a display and ordering online still the easiest way to get activated?
Works great on VZW still. Love the phone.

I'd say that the Axon works just as well on Verizon as it did prior to the update, but with potentially better signal strength though I didn't really have a big issue with that prior to the update so I'm not sure (the T-Mobile SIM does seem to do a lot better post-update...but Verizon has always worked well).
I really doubt you'll have any substantive trouble with VZW on this device, especially if you're willing and able to mess a bit with some of the more advanced settings just in case a problem does arise. Here are the oddities, and I'm trying to list *all* of them!
1. No VoLTE or (I presume) HD calling
2. Voicemail appears to have to be accessed by dialing *86 as opposed to long-pressing the '1' key
3. Roaming icon is present intermittently
4. Data roaming *must* be enabled to ensure consistent and reliable data service
5. Verizon's website won't recognize the device at all in the Account Overview pages (mine still shows the last "approved" device I had with my VZW SIM - an iPhone 6S)
6. MMS *may* require a hack to get the proper APN, though I've had no trouble with this (I'm prepaid though); the hack requires a GSM SIM, so beware of this
7. 1X reception *seems* a tad weak in terms of dBm but functionally it almost seems better than my other Verizon phones (weird!)
8. Carrier label will be either '123456,' '002127' (EvDO only), or (I think?) '31000' when not using LTE (i.e., 1X or 3G). When on LTE the phone should show "Verizon Wireless" as normal
9. A SIM/modem reset may be necessary once in a great while it seems...so it's good to understand how to navigate to the "Phone Information" screen to toggle radio settings...also, I've found just SIM-cycling with a GSM SIM will often fix any connectivity problems as well...and sometimes just rebooting the phone with no SIM at all can help too (or a combo of all the above!)
If you can tolerate the above issues then the phone is great. I really enjoy it. I've found the Verizon side of things to be pretty reliable on the Axon 7, even with my endless tinkering with radio modes and other stuff, which has seemed to get me into (recoverable) trouble a few times.
Most importantly - the endless chatter on various forums that Verizon "blocks" the Axon 7 and other non-approved devices is total bunk. In every case where I've run into an issue it can be resolved on my side - Verizon is doing nothing whatsoever to inhibit the use of the Axon 7 on its network as far as I can tell (notwithstanding activation hurdles, admittedly)...many of the people making such claims seem to be speaking from a standpoint of total ignorance and it's kind of getting annoying, to be honest...it seems like the minute someone has an issue with the Axon 7, some ignoramus gets on the relevant forums/comments and claims that Verizon is "blocking" the device. Total BS IMO.
Good luck! As far as activation is concerned...I'd say it might be best to just go to Wal-Mart and buy a cheap prepaid phone or something (looks like the HTC Desire 526 has a nano-SIM and is only $37.49 on their website)...or maybe a cheap nano-SIM'd Verizon phone off of Swappa or eBay? That's probably what I'd do...But I know neither of those solutions are particularly helpful...VZW definitely makes it a bit of a pain.

#6 might not need the GSM SIM workaround anymore after the B27 update. The + sign shows up for me all the time now, even if I only have a Verizon SIM inserted.
thanks for the list guys, i think i'll give it a shot. i'm going to try to add it as a second line to my wifes plan online. is borrowing a friends imei from a nano phone still the best way to get a new activated sim for this phone?
that 526 is a predaid, will verizon just switch that sim to plan if i call in? or are they different?

found this, not sure if this is still the rule...
http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2016/02/new-policy-may-require-verizon-prepaid.html
"It turns out that Verizon made a policy change effective 1/17/16 that requires Verizon Prepaid Phones to be activated on Verizon Prepaid and have at least $30 in airtime applied to them before they cam be used on Verizon postpaid. A Reddit user posted a copy of an internal Verizon document detailing the new rule:
Effective 1/17/2016, customers who purchase a Prepaid 4G device must activate on a $30, $45, or $60 Prepaid plan and make at least 1 monthly service payment before they are eligible to move the device to a new or active Postpay account .
Device remains locked until first month’s payment is made on their Prepaid plan.
Device is unlocked automatically upon successful first month’s payment and can be used on Postpaid plan (new SIM or SIM swap).
Attempting to use an active Postpay SIM Card with a new 4G LTE Prepaid PIB smartphone prior to making the required monthly payment, hotlines the Postpay MDN (SFO 83643) . The hotline remains until first month’s payment is made.
Customers who activate on the $45 or $60 Prepaid plans and enroll in Auto Pay, receive bonus 1GB data per month.
If account is hotlined:
Data access, outgoing calls, and text messaging do not work.
Text message is sent to smartphone.
*VZW FREE MSG: Phone must be activated on Verizon Wireless Prepaid service and first monthly payment must be made before it can be used with any other service. *
Auto-remark is placed on the customer's account.
*SIM Swap attempted: MDN Hotlined. Phone must be activated on VZW Prepaid service and first month paid before it can be activated as postpaid. *"

Dang...yeah I think you're right about this. My mistake...ugh I wish they'd just make it easy! In that case I'd say Swappa would be the best route...I've bought a few phones off of there and it's always been a great experience.
What are your APN settings? I'm having issues getting my data to work on Verizon.

So frustrating. Before update used today Verizon in upper left corner. Switched to 123456 after update. Rebooted and it went back. After another reboot it only says 123456 and nothing I do will change it back. And now when I get an MMS hangouts tells me it needs to download it but nothing happens. I never get LTE anymore either.
Edit: not sure what I did but it's back now. Might have something to do with bearer in apn settings being lte.

That's #9 in the above list that was posted. Need to cycle the modem state of the device.
so, can someone help me with a little clarification? did ZTE ever actually disable anything regarding Verizon on this phone? i know when people quote the webinar, it sounded like they were going to. i understand that the functionality is basically all still working, but i'm wondering if maybe i'm confused on the terminology.
in this post on reddit, i heard the same thing that has been repeated by some, and i am wondering if i have my band terminology confused. is the cdma part different from the 4g lte part(and that's why it's still working)?, or is sarah just incorrect?

Axon 7
Doesn't work on Verizon yet. It supposedly has CDMA radios but the radio firmware has them disabled. ZTE can't by law enable the CDMA radios because they didn't get FCC approval for the CDMA radios. They would have to pay for the testing and then resubmit the device to the FCC to get approval before they turned on the CDMA radios through a software update.
And the device doesn't have the firmware for VoLTE, HD calling or WiFi calling on Verizon.
