[Q] Duel Cameras for Non front facing Phones

Just got the new G2 and its a bit disappointing that it doesn't have a front facing camera on it. Now I am looking for a way to do video calling with the use of a Web Camera. It would involve connecting the two devices with a USB Female-Female Adapter and designing an app to use the camera. Does anyone have an idea where to start on something like that?
i guess you have to look into usb host driver, there was one guy doing this with a nexus one i think, just search on youtube there was a video
Once you make the special adapter to trigger your phone into USB host mode (if possible) you will still run into a problem of no driver support for your webcam and no applications capable of using a usb camera.
basically you're SOL for a good while

[Q] Nexus 7 as monitor for rear camera view ?

Sometimes I use my Nexus 7 as a GPS in the car, I was wondering, if I was to get a rear view camera installed on the car is it possible to connect it to the Nexus 7 so would have a video monitor when I back up ?
I think its possible. Over at some other board team drh had a USB webcam working on the gtablet but that was for ICS and the tablet had a normal USB 2.0 in it.

[Q] Is there is a ROM or kernel with FULL USB Audio Support?

I would love to use USB Audio on the Nexus 10 such that I can use it when it is playing music from google play music, or locally through the stock music player, NOT through USB Audio Recorder Pro.
I have a Nexus 10 and a Verizon Note 2, both stock unrooted, and it's frustrating because the only way I can enjoy USB Audio on those is with USB Audio Recorder Pro.
Since my Verizon Note 2 is from work, that leaves my Nexus 10 which I could root, unlock, and load a recovery and a ROM (well I have a touchpad with 4.2.2 rom, but I can't even get the device to recognize that a USB audio device is plugged in, but I really want this on my Nexus 10). Is there a ROM right now (or a kernel that I use with the stock ROM) that has full support of USB Audio so any DAC I plug in via USB (With USB OTG cable, of course) will work for any audio coming from the Nexus 10, not just using that USB Audio Recorder Pro app?
Thanks!
I remember this coming up all the time on the Galaxy nexus as well. A couple kernels added full support on their end for all the modules required to use a USB DAC, however the ROM side of things also needs to have special parts included to make it work and I dont think anyone really figured out how to do that or every ROM dev simply didnt want to. So most likely you will always be stuck using whatever app you use to make it work.

i have a similar issue - timur's ROM, followed instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100452&page=4 and likes of this however the native camera app closes with "unfortunately, gallery has stopped"every single time. I tried using simplewebcam app and it works perfectly. However the native app just doesnt. I went to the extent of flashing the ROM again, going back to stock and it just doesn't work
i need this functionality to be able to use the cam for AR navigation apps. Any help would be appreciated
According to the Linux UVC supported webcam page, found here http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/#devices, that camera should work.
One thing you need to make sure of is that the webcam is plugged in when the Nexus is booted. Otherwise, the driver will not be loaded and the webcam will not be accessible. I have found from my own experience that occasionally, it takes two consecutive reboots for the webcam driver to be properly loaded.
There is a way to make the camera plug and play capable as long as it was connected at first boot which I can link to if you're interested.
From there, I know that some apps are better at loading the second camera better than others. I personally use Mirror for my own as I use it as a backup cam for my car installation and have no need to actually take pictures with it. If you do want to use it to take pictures, you probably will want to try a a few different camera apps.

You can try droidperception's dashcam app from google play. İt checkes your tablet's uvc drivers. İ use dashcam with rooted stock rom with logitech c210.

Nexus 7 car install help please.

Hi Guys,
I have mounted a Nexus 7 (rooted First gen) to my car dashboard. It was a outside mount using a magnetic CD mount. I have connected the usb cable to power up the tablet and using tasker to automate things. I'm using my Xperia Z2 wifi hotspot to tether internet to nexus and It's all working fine. I want to explore the possibility of adding a backup camera now. Done a lot of research but not much information. I want to forget about wifi cameras as I cant have them with my hotspot cause I can only do one device. I'm trying to see if I can use a wired connection. I want to power the camera at all times when the ignition/engine is on so I can wire it to rear lights no problem.
I saw this video and I'm quite intrigued by this;
watch?v=V-gLrqUHATQ
This is my plan;
- Get a cheap camera backup camera (seen in the above video)
- Buy a UVC video grabber to connect everything.
- Have the app installed.
The camera will power on as soon as car is ignited and will remain on all the time.
My questions;
1. Where can I get a UVC video grabber that will work with my nexus 7 (First gen) the one shown in the TY video is a second gen nexus?
2. How can I connect both my charging usb and UVC usb at the same time? Will it work with a OTG cable?
3. How can I make the app to launch the video window when my car goes into reverse? I was thinking about wiring the power to reverse lights first and then when it powers up somehow get the camera app to auto launch and then close when its powered off. But I think it will be difficult with 2 usb cables and there will be a lag? Any way to automate this with tasker?
Thanks for your advice :cyclops:
hi
i think your backup cam will be connected to the reverse gear lights. it will work when the gear is reverse. so you can use carcam app. it popups when it receives a video signal and closes when the signal ends.
or i think tasker has an option under profile/state/hardware/usb connected/video that detetcs usb video devices when connected. but i am not sure that it will detect the uvc video grabber.
