[Q] Nexus 7 as monitor for rear camera view ? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sometimes I use my Nexus 7 as a GPS in the car, I was wondering, if I was to get a rear view camera installed on the car is it possible to connect it to the Nexus 7 so would have a video monitor when I back up ?

I think its possible. Over at some other board team drh had a USB webcam working on the gtablet but that was for ICS and the tablet had a normal USB 2.0 in it.

That would be amazing! Someone do it, make a 10 dollar app, and you have got my money!
Only problem with this is every camera has different specs so drivers for it would be very difficult.

[Q] Nexus 7 as a monitor

I have purchased a Rasberry Pi and would like to use my Nexus 7 as the monitor.
The Rpi has hdmi and video cable (yellow rca) as output mediums.
The nexus 7 only has micro USB input
Is there an app (such as DSLR) that would provide this facility.
Or any other way of turning my Nexus 7 into a monitor ?
Thanks for your help

dont thing so..usb is no hdmi..but you can use some remote app to have it over wifi
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure the specifics, but I imagine if you wanted to do something like this you would need a server side program running on the Pi itself, with an app to attach to it. You could possibly run a vnc server on the pi and have it start the X-Session when someone uses VNC, then you would be able to to access with a vnc viewer on your Nexus 7, of course to do this you'd have to be able to set it up initially. This may also lead to lag as it'll be over a wifi connection.
As far as I know there's no way to do a wired connection, unless maybe using some sort of USB video input with an OTG cable. Would possibly require a bit of hacking on the Nexus side of things.

[Q] need help with Nexus 7 and a reverse camera

Nexus 7 car install help please.

Hi Guys,
I have mounted a Nexus 7 (rooted First gen) to my car dashboard. It was a outside mount using a magnetic CD mount. I have connected the usb cable to power up the tablet and using tasker to automate things. I'm using my Xperia Z2 wifi hotspot to tether internet to nexus and It's all working fine. I want to explore the possibility of adding a backup camera now. Done a lot of research but not much information. I want to forget about wifi cameras as I cant have them with my hotspot cause I can only do one device. I'm trying to see if I can use a wired connection. I want to power the camera at all times when the ignition/engine is on so I can wire it to rear lights no problem.
I saw this video and I'm quite intrigued by this;
watch?v=V-gLrqUHATQ
This is my plan;
- Get a cheap camera backup camera (seen in the above video)
- Buy a UVC video grabber to connect everything.
- Have the app installed.
The camera will power on as soon as car is ignited and will remain on all the time.
My questions;
1. Where can I get a UVC video grabber that will work with my nexus 7 (First gen) the one shown in the TY video is a second gen nexus?
2. How can I connect both my charging usb and UVC usb at the same time? Will it work with a OTG cable?
3. How can I make the app to launch the video window when my car goes into reverse? I was thinking about wiring the power to reverse lights first and then when it powers up somehow get the camera app to auto launch and then close when its powered off. But I think it will be difficult with 2 usb cables and there will be a lag? Any way to automate this with tasker?
Thanks for your advice :cyclops:
hi
i think your backup cam will be connected to the reverse gear lights. it will work when the gear is reverse. so you can use carcam app. it popups when it receives a video signal and closes when the signal ends.
or i think tasker has an option under profile/state/hardware/usb connected/video that detetcs usb video devices when connected. but i am not sure that it will detect the uvc video grabber.

[Q] Reverse camera help for nexus 7 car mount.

Hello guys,
I have externally mounted my Nexus 7 in my car. I have Timrs USB rom and it works great. Setup tasker for power on and off and I have the music, wifi tethering etc.
I want to put a reverse camera to this. Can someone tell me how exactly I can do this? Since I'm already wifi tethering from my phone I have to do a wired connection for camera.
What are some of the camera's supported and how can I do this?
Thanks.
