I decided to fund it earlier today and I haven't seen anything posted about it on here so I thought I would start a thread to get some more opinions on it.
Anyways here is a link to the kickstarter. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects...ch-complete-smart-watch-w-revolutionary-pri-0
Has anyone else ordered one?

I funded mine a couple of weeks ago. It's a nice looking watch, my only concern is that it did not get anywhere close to the funding of the pebble which might limit the amount of Apps that will get developed. Any thoughts?
You may be right about app development. That's one thing I didn't consider.
It does offer most everything I want in a smart watch and in my opinion it's the better looking of the ones that I have seen.
Which one did you place a order for? I put one in for the Curve.

I like them but I think I will wait as I reckon they will release one soon with the coloured e ink display like the Qualcomm Toq. I do like the idea of private calls though just wish they had used a coloured display that will give days before charging.
I ordered the Curve also, it looks more sleek than the others and you have to admit , at half the price of the newly released Galaxy Gear, it's worth it. The galaxy gear is very nice looking , does it all but with a charge that will only last 24 hr and a price tag of $300, I think the Hot watch will be more than a good purchase . I will definitely consider Apple's smart watch when it comes out. It will probably be the priciest of all the mainstream smart watches but hopefully it will last longer on a single charge and look great.Cant wait!! Should be interesting. Does anyone think this is just a fad or will smart watches be around for awhile. Smart phone display screens have been getting bigger, can we live with a smaller screen?
I originally funded the curve as well.
I reduced my pledge to no reward yesterday however.
I feel that the Qualcomm Toq is a better smartwatch, and will be getting that instead.
The color always-on Marisol display is superior to the black and white of the HOT. And the purported UI of the HOT looks primitive compared to the simple yet functional of the Toq's
And the private calling of the HOT feels more like a gimmick that a practical feature.
There appears to be better overall design thinking on the Toq; real practical features designed for real world use.
Wishing the HOT team the best of luck.

I think they are here to stay and will start catching on like wildfire over the next few years. Especially once the technology starts mature and we start seeing the flexible OLED screens make a appearance.
I don't see it ever completely replacing the smartphone phone, at least not in the near future. I think it will stay a device that merely compliments your smartphone.

This is my first Kickstarter funding and will be my first smartwatch. I'm getting the Edge. Being 8mm thick was the selling point for me. Most of the others are at least 20mm thick, which seems unwieldy. I hope the company pulls it off and the watch is what we want it to be.

Where are you looking? I've been looking for months and none of the 2013 smartwatches are 20mm. I can say that if I was going for a feature limited device the Hot Watch does have a nice dress watch look to it.

Why would you say that the Hot watch is feature limited, it has more than the Pebble which has had huge success . Granted it is not a stand alone like Samsung which has its own disadvantages , and if you ask me, having a camera on your watch is just creepy !!

To me a smartwatch should be able it interact with your smart house, smart (insert appliance here) and various other host smart devices. Until it does it's a remote for your phone and not much else.

You are right, I was way off about thickness. I was thinking of some of the ones that can make phone calls that are huge. Nevertheless, the Hot Watch is still the thinnest. Galaxy Gear is 11mm.

I did fund the Pebble on kickstarter and was one of the folks whose pebble got bricked after a firmware update.
Sure, they sent me a new one, and I gave that one to my boss.
I didn't consider the pebble a true smartwatch either. I have had lots of wearables through the years; Sony's LiveWatch, 5 Spot watches, 2 SonyEricsson Bluetooth watches.
The Toq is closer to being an all around smartwatch. Low power, daylight legible display, touchscreen, no gimmicks, and a phone companion.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
Ok, IMO, if you are willing to pay $300 for a Toq, you might as well get the new Samsung. It is a stand alone smartwatch. It is said that Qualcomm is just putting its toe into smart watches to try to sell its reflective screen technology, which Ive read has been problematic. They are only introducing 10 000 units on the market whereas Samsung will be flooding the market with 500 000 units a much more serious player who plans on staying around for a while and will invest in their product. That's if you want to spend $300 for a smart watch. I believe that the Hot watches' nice style will be a wearable piece even after the smart watch fad is over, as per "them". Maybe " they " are right are right and it will be just a fad but no one can predict the future .

Now I've read the "stand alone" and "can make calls" about the Samsung in a ton of places. Has anybody seen anything official about this? You know, something like GSM/CDMA bands. I've been digging through every bit of info I can find (read- google search results page 20+) and have found nothing regarding GSM or CDMA support. That would be kind of key to be able to make calls and sync data on it's own.

IMO , I don't think it is so much of a smart watch issue as much as it is an App issue for the smart appliance people to put out to control their smart appliancets. We can control many appliances with our smart phones because the manufacturers have put out apps for them. When and if the smart watches get as popular as cell phones , then they will do what it takes to be compatible with their products, they will have to if they want to market their product properly

Apparently this was said at their release of the Samsung smart watch. I know of another smart watch that says in print that is is a stand alone, it will use 2g and 3g on American frequencies and European, it's called Omate.

Well, the Kickstarter campaign has ended and they raised more than 4 times as much as they sought, so it's been a success financially. Now we get to wait 3 months and see if they can really pull it off. My fingers are crossed.

Hello people!
So far there have been mixed views about the SGS3. Initially I was a little let down. After thinking about it for sometime, I realized I had bought into the hype that Samsung themselves were responsible for, and that if I looked at it from a "Let's see the spec sheet" point of view, it was a great phone!
One of the features I was expecting was the new water repelling technology which was debuted as CES 2012 : Liquipel, and I thought it could warrant a discussion.
Although it can be applied on after the phone is bought (at a significant price), it is only available for US consumers.
Any thoughts on the technology? Alternatives? Am I the only one who was expecting something of this sort in a pwerful, flagship and moreover - expensive, next generation smartphone?
Cheers!

This would probably come at the cost of having no replaceable battery and microSD-slot, so I'd rather just get a waterproof case if I really need it to be waterproof.

the technology is not even a year old so i dont think mobile manufacturers will adopt earlier.lets hope we can get it separately for a cheap price

it's a shame that it's only available to US only

Can I ask you why Samsung is responsible for overhyping their own product? I think it was the fans that totally overhyped it.

Rumors has it that the iPhone 5 is getting this. Also I think the Droid Razor MAXX has Moto's own waterproofing method used. Yeah, it's relatively new, but I would have expected the SGS3, what with it being the frontier of tech, to have such implements! But yeah... it is what it is.

I guess from Samsung's standpoint they were just advertising and in essence we tech enthusiasts were the cause of the overhyping. Although their adverts about "separating yourself from the sheep" and such just made already wild imaginations run all the more wilder! I guess I could've phrased the post better, but I wanted to get to the topic fairly quicker!
That's what made me really pull back and realize what a good phone it was at it's projected price-point (I'll save my final verdict when it's in my hands). It made me ask the question: What was I really expecting and what did we get, imagination aside?

I think they decided to act the exact same way as Apple, knowing how much hype Apple generates like this.
True, they're not directly culpable or anything, but now they're paying for it anyway. (Maybe not; it's too early to tell.)
As to the actual topic, I vowed that my next phone would be waterproof. Not sure how realistic that is, but yeah, waterproofing could've been a real improvement that the fans would've been satisfied with.
Hopefully, by next year (my likely time of upgrade), it would have become standard.

Samsung galaxy s series has matured enough to have its own launch event so nothing wrong about it. ITs the rumor mill which increased the hype, samsung never said it will have a bezeless screen + virtual buttons.(I was dreaming for both of those features after reading it from the net)
The term is hydrophobic ie water repellent. I already use a very hydrophobic coating. What you need is super hydrophobic which I assume is being shown in the vid. Tech been around for 3-4yrs

It takes about 15 minutes to do. My buddy took his S2 in and got it back within 30 minutes. Check and see if they're local. There's one near Long beach, CA. This way you won't have to send the phone in and be without it for several days. Not to mention saving on shipping.
Coming back to the GS3 side of things, I have seen the new ad and it says 'Shares the warmth of Nature', just after it shows people being splashed with water.
Tried to post the link for youtube, but since am a new member, can't!
But you can search for Samsung Galaxy S III (GT-i9300) TV Commercial on Youtube. It is about 30 seconds in.
While this rumour is being going on, I think this might lead people to get a bit excited and assume that the phone already comes with this.
---------- Post added at 03:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:41 PM ----------
Coming back to the post, though.
I believe the Liquipel would be a great product for the phone. However, I am concerned about the Waterproof claim they make. There are a lot of videos out there which show Liquipel failing, mainly because people dumped them in water, to test the claim out.
In those cases, the companies that the phones were bought from did not take any responsibility, and the consumer had to bear the costs themselves.

Assuming you're talking about the Z1 (Rock) watch, there's a comparison for that right here.
A "true" smart watch runs on a smart phone platform. 99% of those chinese phone watches run feature phone platforms, in otherwords, they're dumbphones. The one and only chinese phone watch that uses a smart platform (Android) is the Z1. It's ok, but crap screen, slow processor, and huge physical size are major downsides. Also, it's closer to $250, definitely not under $100 (or I'd have one right now just for ****s and giggles, lol)

Not to say they suck or aren't neat, they're just not what people would consider a "smart watch"
I used one of these watches in the past and it was pure junk. Didn't think I'd go for another 'smart watch' but I decided to try out the Pebble watch. Of course the difference being the Pebble only connected to my main phone, which I preferred. The Pebble is just good enough to view notifications. I chose the Note 2's large screen for a reason... so I wouldn't have to dial on a small screen.
Would love to have a pebble watch

Anyway, I've seen 10s of Chinese/Singaporean watches and most are BREW or JAVA. Smart enough for some. My current favorite is the sWaP Nova because you can wear it as a necklace.

That's the Z1 Rock watch, or a clone of it. Literally almost identical. Check the specs on my site here. It's very very old news, and was not the first device to run a standalone OS, or even the first to run android.
Is it neat? Sure. It's also HUGE though, and runs an older version of Android than the ACTV, which came out before this one. As for the price, currently, 150 pounds equates to about 227 US dollars, and for that price, I'd rather have the actv I think.
"Teenager tries to take credit for someone elses Smart Watch"
There, fixed the title. This is an open source (I guess that's what they call it) watch body. The chinese company makes the watch, buyers who commit to massive quantities can choose color, logo, and name to sell as their own.
This watch in the past has been branded as the Z1 watch and the Vega Watch. It's not new..at all. And it's quite frankly not a very good watch phone. As ClearD was talking about the Motoactv just slays this thing in terms of power.
Is this the same as Neptune Pine? http://www.neptunepine.com/product.html
Eitherway, its a wrist phone, not a smart watch. The whole idea of smart watch is to be a remote extension of the smart phone, not a replacement of it. You get notification, and decide if you want to act on it. In my opinion, wrist watch is a different category. Beside, I'm not sure if I would find it too healthy to wear most of the day 3G receiver/transmitter on my wrist with all that electromagnetic waves circulation At least with my smart phone its either on a dash board mount in the car when I'm driving, or the desk away from me when I'm at work, or somewhere on a table at home. Smart watch is just a bluetooth gadget
Nah, the Neptune pine is way better. Like... In every aspect. Lol

First and foremost: No multiple user support! Until this is provided by either Samsung or by a mod, I'm not buying this tablet. I was hoping to make this a coffee table appliance, and there is no way to achieve that without the multi-user support.
Another thing that kinda annoyed me was the seemingly cheap workmanship on the area where the bezel meets the plastic frame in the front. I held a white one at Best Buy and this annoying look immediately caught my attention. This would have looked much nicer if the bezel did not run over the frame and was instead flush with it. Normally I wouldn't care about this too much, but I know my wife will and ***** about how iPad looks nicer... jeez.....
So why am I posting this? I guess I needed to vent... I had so much high hopes for this device, and now I'm having second thoughts...

I think the Note 2014 is going to be the best there is for android 10 inch tablet (until next year) for what it all offers. The super close runner up will be the New Nexus 10 coming out soon. For many it could go either way between the two. I jsut love all the software extras and the multi tasking of this thing. My god the multitasking!!:victory:
Again the new Nexus 10 is not out yet but ASUS is making it and I'm not too confident in the quality control. But that is just me.

And besides, didn't Google announce that they won't provide external sd-card slots, because they were "too confusing" to the consumer??? Really??? Or is it because they want to charge an extra $100 for 16GB in this day and age? Thanks Google, that's a deal breaker. The moment HTC did that, I switched over to Samsung (also HTC stopped making the battery removable). I hate when Android device makers are trying to act like they are Apple. If I want to buy something like iPhone or iPad, I will buy an iPhone or iPad. So stop taking away things that give you an edge!
I'm afraid that's what Samsung could be trying to do here by removing the multi-user support. They want everyone to buy a tablet. They don't want family members to share. Well, for the phones, it's understandable. But for tablets, there is no reason not to share. I hope Sammy gets its act together on this...

Google's mission was to make the tablet as affordable as possible, it is one of the reasons why they cut out the ext SD card.
Their other excuse was switching over on how they wanted their phones to mount when connected to PC. But Samsung managed to get it working right, so I don't know what their issue was.

As a coffee table device? I wouldn't dish out ~$600 for a tablet I'd be leaving on the coffee table. Why not just get something cheaper? It doesn't sound like you're going to be using the s pen for anything serious anyways and the S Pen is what really makes this device worth the purchase.

Well, I guess I tend to always buy the top tier device and hang on to it for a while (still use my Lenovo T61 I bought in 2007 close to $2K). For now it will be a coffee table device, but for later I may turn it into something more useful. And no one can deny the stunning resolution on that screen.
I currently have Note 2 as my phone and I do use the S Pen quite often.
7just grab a nook hd+. 9inches and under $125.

You could try installing 2014 NOTE 10.1 RETAIL MODE APP.
I believe the way it works is.........
You activate the retail mode with a password and anything that is done in retail mode is erased when you return to normal operation. There is also a video that plays when the tablet has not been touched for a preset time.

Only one catch......... you need the password, who knows it???

Yes, I have seen that on the tablet at BestBuy. There was an "administrators" menu on settings and retail mode user or something close to that name was listed as an admin. But still doesn't achieve the purpose of being able to share the device with my wife without any hassle.
we all know the edge is a head turner with its unique design and this being a limited edition device not many people would have owned it by now. So what did the people close to you or even random strangers in the streets say when they saw your new phone?
post the amusing comments you've heard!
Someone: Is that iPhone 7?
I: No iPhone 10 S
Bring it on.....
A few of my work colleagues commented " Samsung are unbelievable" others asked if it was Note 4...most people around me don't even know that a device called Galaxy Note Edge exists.

When people hear about the price of the phone, they think I'm crazy and loaded.

I read a ton of reviews and all were saying how incredibly expensive the Note Edge was even on contract. Yet no one even blinks an eye at the price of the iPhone 6+ 64GB, and its the same price. I guess for the same reasons that no one blinks at the AppleWatches being $350 for the cheap one (I think the other 2 are supposed to be something like $1k and $5k?), but people talk about how expensive a $200 AndroidWear watch is. SMH.

Yeah, this also annoys me very much. The two phones are not even comparable, just look at the features/functionality the Note Edge has to offer compared to iPhone 6+... Seems like Apple just has to stick its logo on something and it could ask for any price which people would pay without questioning. Crazy!!

Yep. That's what they do. Put there logo on crap and make money, people eat it up and buy it.
It's funny that you have to ask someone which iPhone they have because they all look the same lol.
But yea the note edge is light years above the iPhone 6 +. And for those saying it's a 64gb not 32. Well the edge has a sd port which wins. But yet people still fuss about it being a high price device. And it's only what $75 to $100 more then the note 4 and note 3 @ launch.

Exactly! This is made worse by the fact the so called experts (reviewers) also make a big thing about iPhone 6+ and the price of edge. At least they should know better...

Well you gotta give Apple credit for their marketing genius and power, that's for sure. And Android phones aren't the only ones.
Microsoft bought the rights to get their Surface tablet as the official tablet of the NFL. You see signs that say Microsoft Surface all over the place, but the sportscasters and local sportscasters were calling them iPads on the air. And then apparently Microsoft tried to correct them and now they are calling them (as of a week or so ago) "iPad-like devices". SMH. And of course we know that Android having had GooglePay (or whatever it's called) ISIS, and Samsung even has their own version, and they gained no traction until Apple came along. Now Apple has a watch coming out next year that, as far as I can tell, looks like a bad design (it's no sleeker than the Samsung Gears, the Gear solo is more advanced, and the LG GwatchR and Moto360 both look WAY better, as does the Pebble), and is about twice the cost of the competition. Expect lots of hipsters to be wearing them by summer.
This is what happens when you are the real innovator in not only devices and design, but marketing as well (not including the watches). Now that Apple is, essentially, becoming a bit stagnant and stale (even the fanboys were saying a month or so ago "Apple has to do something new with the iPad. Sales are dropping and people seem to care less"), it's a good time for innovators to leap-frog them, but unfortunately I don't see that happening (yet). The Samsung Youn (sp?) glass demo of a year or two ago was really impressive. I could see Samsung in the next couple of years coming out with a device that is a tablet and folds into a phone and vice-versa. That would be a huge hit even though it will likely be pretty expensive.
And it is all fueled by a lot of consumer ignorance and trend following as well. Apple completely understands this and caters to it. When people ask me which to get (because I have had both) I tell them that they both can accomplish basically the same thing, so if they want simplicity and ease of use, go with the iPhone. If they want tweakbility and some more powerful features, and better/longer device and OS support, go with Android. Windows phones are surprisingly nice as well, but most people that get them, even though they are happy, have iPhone and Android envy and wonder what they might be missing.

Thats great. I'll just have to make something up that sounds like some super secret beta or something. "Oh, it's the iPhone 6+ Crypto edition. It's only available for CIA, NSA, and the Secret Service. I shouldn't even really be talking about it." I just need to come up with some cool looking wallpaper or theme to back it up.

When they ask what's that.
Just say it's and "edge above the rest".
Lol, now watch Samsung steal my saying.. just note you heard it here first by me.

ha figures.
I showed it to one of my co-workers on Thursday and she was really impressed with it. Not so much the price though. lol
TS
My nice immediately started hounding me for my Note 4.. But she hated on me nonetheless for this device.
As time goes on and more application developers figure out how to make their apps "Edge Aware" and use that realestate, life will be golden!!
My co workers all ran and got the LG G3 last month. Thinking Samsung design wasn't going to change. Then when I showed them my Galaxy Edge. Everyone wanted to hold it and they were shocked. A few said they were going to get one.
Just yesterday a girl at the checkout ask if it was the galaxy mega.
I told her no no its the edge, then I till the phone on its and show her the edge. Her eyes lite up lol.

My boy got the phone I want! That ish is fiiiiyah! Everybody at my job wants it now and I'm like stop biting and go get the Note 4 like y'all originally planned on!!! ?
I go into stores and ask if they have any cases and they always say "you got one" and immediately wanna see it. I even had some guys take some pictures of them using it......lol
