Hi,
Got an unlocked XT905 on ebay. supposed to be quadband in the specs.
I'm on Rogers wireless in canada, that use gsm 850 and 1900. So i should find the network but it's not. Only find Bell and Telus networks.
My other quadband phone find 4 networks, Rogers 3g, Rogers 2g, Telus and Bell.
so half of the frequencies of the brand new XT905 are obviously not working.
Phone have the australian Telstra firmware on it i guess, there's 2 apps from Telstra.
Is the phone defective ? Or i need to flash something on it ?
thanks
Well after a lot of reading i'm still lost.
I could maybe try a rom on it but it came already updated to 4.1.2 and the bootloader is locked and i don't want to play with that.
Any ideas?

Hi again. The Op of this thread is a whiz at these kind of things. A PM or a off topic post?

Have an xt907 with similar issue. Is there a radio to enable 1800mhz frequency? Found this to (possibly) be the issue to my thread looking to get 3ginstead of HSPA+
OP, the 905 is bootloader unlock(able?) from the factory. The 907 (VZW version) is the one that needs the exploit

Hi everyone,
I bought my T-Mobile G1 from the states about a year ago, when the G1 was exclusive to T-Mobile. I am currently using my G1 on the Rogers network. I knew I would only get EDGE and won't be able to get 3G on my phone but I was content, because I wanted the G1 so bad!!!!!! Rogers operate on 850/1900Mhz and the T-Mo G1 runs on 1700/2100Mhz. Now since Rogers are selling the HTC Dream, it changes things for me. I want 3G!!!!!!
So, to get down to the point, I was wondering if there is a way for me to flash my T-Mo G1 with the Rogers HTC Dream image/firmware/radio so I can get 3G on the Rogers network?
My G1 info:

I know there are a few posts about this, but all the posts died.
If there is a existing post about this inquiry please point me to the right thread.

I'm fairly sure that's a hardware limitation, and not something that software can fix. People have tried flashing the Rogers radio on tmo dreams and ended up with bricks (shockingly >.>).

and i dont get any software to do,
the matter is that it is resetting,
i already hard reset it, and its the same,
what do you sugest?
I think this is very possible. I have in my possession a G1 from T-Mobile UK which was reflashed with the US ROM and it works swimmingly on 3G here.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but T-Mo UK's 3G is on 1900 MHz and US is on 1700. This would lead me to believe that the radio IS capable of operating on all current UMTS frequencies.
Sorry fine sirs,
but you would have to find a Canadian frequency version of this and install it in your phone.

Why don't you just try it and find out? If it doesn't work, then just flash back your original image.
I don't think you need to change the antenna. The radio chipset is what determines which frequencies you can operate on, the antenna is basically a glorified piece of wire. Think about this: the G1 in the USA operates GSM/GPRS on 850, 900, and 1900 MHz, as well as UMTS on 1700 and 2100 MHz... all with the same antenna! You don't need to change it to operate on Rogers.

Really? Then why has nobody successfully "converted" the antenna to other frequencies?

Dude go back and read my last two posts... I have "converted" a UK G1 (read: no 1700 MHz band in the UK) to work on T-Mobile USA's 3G. The only "conversion" I did was installing the US ROM. No antenna swap, no mainboard swap, did not open the phone whatsoever. Unlocked and the flashed. Done.

So you didn't get 3G before, and after flashing a "US" ROM (ROMs are region defined?) you have 3G? Hmmm

No, that is not what I said. When I received the phone, which was a UK model with the T-Mo UK ROM installed, I immediately unlocked it, rooted it, and reflashed with the US ROM. I did not test it before hand to see if 3G worked because the phone was locked to T-Mo UK and I only have a T-Mo US SIM card. I never said that it was not capable of 1700 MHz before the flash, only that the hardware was capable regardless of where it was bought.
And yes, the T-Mo UK ROM is different than that of the T-Mo US ROM. I am not a programmer, so I do not know how fundamentally different it is, but it most definitely comes with different apps and customizations, as well as APNs. Also, if you remove the battery cover, the UK model has a different part number than the US model. Beyond that, it is shown as an 'unrecognized device' in T-Mobile USA's system, whereas the US model shows up as an HTC G1. I believe that this is only related to the ESN, but the internet only works on it with the Android data package- it would not work on the Sidekick plan. I don't know if it's network-side or phone-side, but something is identifying it as an Android device.
Anyway, my whole point to the OP was that his phone should have the proper HARDWARE to operate on either Rogers' or T-Mobile's 3G, and that if something was preventing him from doing that now it was most likely due to the software on his phone.
The only part of a ROM that could change this would be the radio

That's the Rogers download page, try it out.
Bump: anyone try this out yet? I'm curious... It seems hard to find the Rogers standalone update though, you might need to unroot then reroot to do this.
Hello if someone could help me with my 3G connection inquiry, I would greatly appreciate it.
I bought this phone unlocked from Hong Kong and brought it back to Canada. But the 3G connection through Rogers won't work. I am able to connect to edge (When i pop in my sisters sim card which has a data plan, as my sim card currently does not have a data plan).
I talked to Rogers and they said that everything is compatable (After mentioning the phone frequencies and speed capabilities) and that the only reason 3G isnt working is that I have not configured my phone properly for 3G and at this moment it is configured for 2G (Edge).
I then contacted HTC and they said the reason was because "for the Rogers network, their 3G signal is operated on the 850/1900 MHZ band and the Touch HD2 operates on the 900/2100 MHZ band." Could this be the reason? Will i never taste the pleasures of a 3G connection?
PLEASE HELP!!
since you have bought it in hongkong most probably you have the asian version. It comes with 900/2100 MHZ bands and as you mentioned ROger needs 850/1900 frequency.
You could also get Telstra version from Australia and unlock it as it has 850/1900 frquency so that you could get 3g. But not possible on the one you already have.
Yea its the frequencies. When I take my phones abroad, I always check what frequencies the country has. If the frequencies don't match, the phone won't work in terms of placing calls, 3G etc.
is there a way to unlock ?

There is no software that can get around this "problem"
It is purely a hardware limitation.
perhaps with flashing radio but i'm not shure

This is a completely hardware related problem

I just bought a My Touch 3G Slide on eBay. I got it unlocked in an hour using cellunlock.net for $10 and got it all setup. However, now I'm noticing that it never goes into 3G, just EDGE.
I searched to find if it could even work with Rogers' 3G network and I'm even more confused. So does it work with Rogers' 3G?
I've also seen posts that it works on HSPA. I've used the APNs for Rogers' HSPA and still I'm getting just EDGE. Do I have to update my radio, use CM6 or something?
Sorry, I'm new to the MT3GS. I have a MT3G/Magic and I thought the new one would be pretty much the same except with a keyboard.
I *think* that Roger's uses the AT&T bands for 3G, not T-Mobile. Sorry.

thats correct, Att and Rodgers uses the 1900mhz band and the mt3gs only has the 1700 NA band and the 850/2100mhz EU bands
That sucks. So it won't work on HSPA either then? I though Rogers offers one of those USB modems that works on 2100MHz HSPDA. Will that work with the MT3GS?

It has the 2100mhz band, but that is so you can have 3G when you go to europe. Rogers only broadcasts 1900mhz in CA.
Damn. Oh well, my wife won't know the difference between EDGE and 3G anyway. Thanks.
sorry i don't belong in this forum but how do you guys explain the g1 having 3g then its a tmobile phone does it have a att frequency for no reason?
Rogers actually sold G1s so they probably got their own version that will work on their network.

OK, I finally get that the frequency band is a hardware thing and that Rogers and T-Mobile use different bands.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UMTS_frequency_bands
So is it possible to change the actual cell phone radio chip and write a ROM that will work with it? I realize it's crazy, but with all the Android development going on, you'd think someone would have tired to get some device that only worked with T-Mobile to work on At&t.
I am thinking of buying one and I don't live in US. The jelly bean update is ready by OTA. Am I be able to upgrade it in Turkey?
Germany u can and Turkey uses similar system as germany.
My gf is using a XT907 Verizon in Germany with O2 running stock JB at moment ICS had some issues with In app video camera.
The Sim Card is unlock stock for international usage but it locked out US providers aka US-Tmobile and AT&T are locked out. I am not sure about simple mobile
you guys should try to somehow get your hands on an Aussie XT905.
Pure GSM, 4G on 1800 if that matters to you, carrier unlocked and bootloader unlockable like dev edition.
If 4G does not matter I suggest going to Razr I.
Already looked into that.
the reason Me and her went with the XT907 with GSM.
Price is the main one.
$160-260 for a XT907 Mint
$300-550 for a XT905
$460+ for a XT907 Unlocked Bootloader
$400-560 for the i after euro conversion
It was just cheaper getting XT907 VZ one for 160 and one for 200.
I am on a Simple Data plan on Tmobile 200MB 4G and slow 2-3G there after still unlimited.
Her's also on a discount plan on O2 200MB 3G and 2G there after unlimited.
Though her Razr M is actually getting 3G in Germany will get the results later this week once she is in a better region. Since she is using stock Radio. Mines does not due to the Aussie Radio.

Does the Aussie radio have other lte bands? My provider, Rogers in Canada, uses 1700/2100/2600.
The Aussie Version has
LTE 1800 / 2600 Bands
But i think the US version only has
LTE 700 MHz Class 13 Band
What I been trying to figure out is if the XT905 has the exact Hardware or do they have slight Antenna differences.
In the XT905 2x LTE bands and XT907 LTE band with CDMA bands

Thanks for the info Germanese! I'll give the Aussie radio a try soon and report back if lte works.
I bet the hardware is identical between the two phones and its only the firmware/software making the difference.

Did you have some success with aussie baseband. For me I have 3G and HDSPA+, but no LTE (logical since the swiss operators don't emit in the 700Mhz band). But they are identical to Australie and xt905.
If anyone already succeeded to have LTE working in europe on the xt907, please share

Use the xt907 vzw but restore the Rabbit's deodexed mod here

It has a special radio widget & if you restore it my way you can use it on vzw. You could have both versions on your sd. For unlocked bootloader only.

Hello geniuses!
Before anyone asks, I have already tried the search function and was unable to get any pertinent results!!
I have a n9005 unbranded factory unlocked phone that I purchased through a retailer in Singapore. I absolutely love this phone it is such a beast!
However, I am having a problem with the handset. I am with telus up here in Canada and I am unable to connect to their LTE network. I called customer service to ensure that LTE is enabled on my plan and it is. I am getting HSPA+ speeds and I am able to make voice calls just fine, but I bought this phone thinking I would have LTE enabled on it.
Now from my understanding, the snapdragon 800 chipset has LTE bands that support numerous networks. However, since this is a phone from Singapore it may only have Singapore LTE bands enabled. Is there a way to change it so that it recognizes Canadian bands, more specifically Telus' LTE network?
I read that by flashing a new modem or csc I would be able to get LTE speeds, is this the case? If so, can some one guide me in the right direction on how to do this as I am a complete noob!
Thanks everyone!:fingers-crossed:
Did I not just answer a similar thread about someone with the *exact* same issue with a handset from Hong Kong?

if u havea 4g enabled device such as note 3 model number n9005 then u can use 4g untill its frequency is not supported.... the supported frequencies are not software based.. the are hardware based andcannot be changed.... note 3 n9005 supports LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 / 2600 and note3 n900w8 supports LTE 700 / 1900 / 2100 ... if ur carrier transmits on frequency other than these then us device is useless.... many people buy these devices only because it has 4g but they arenot even aware of supported frequencies so u all must research properly before buying....
