[Q] Upgrading the system outside US? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am thinking of buying one and I don't live in US. The jelly bean update is ready by OTA. Am I be able to upgrade it in Turkey?

Germany u can and Turkey uses similar system as germany.
My gf is using a XT907 Verizon in Germany with O2 running stock JB at moment ICS had some issues with In app video camera.
The Sim Card is unlock stock for international usage but it locked out US providers aka US-Tmobile and AT&T are locked out. I am not sure about simple mobile

you guys should try to somehow get your hands on an Aussie XT905.
Pure GSM, 4G on 1800 if that matters to you, carrier unlocked and bootloader unlockable like dev edition.
If 4G does not matter I suggest going to Razr I.

Already looked into that.
the reason Me and her went with the XT907 with GSM.
Price is the main one.
$160-260 for a XT907 Mint
$300-550 for a XT905
$460+ for a XT907 Unlocked Bootloader
$400-560 for the i after euro conversion
It was just cheaper getting XT907 VZ one for 160 and one for 200.
I am on a Simple Data plan on Tmobile 200MB 4G and slow 2-3G there after still unlimited.
Her's also on a discount plan on O2 200MB 3G and 2G there after unlimited.
Though her Razr M is actually getting 3G in Germany will get the results later this week once she is in a better region. Since she is using stock Radio. Mines does not due to the Aussie Radio.

Does the Aussie radio have other lte bands? My provider, Rogers in Canada, uses 1700/2100/2600.

The Aussie Version has
LTE 1800 / 2600 Bands
But i think the US version only has
LTE 700 MHz Class 13 Band
What I been trying to figure out is if the XT905 has the exact Hardware or do they have slight Antenna differences.
In the XT905 2x LTE bands and XT907 LTE band with CDMA bands

Thanks for the info Germanese! I'll give the Aussie radio a try soon and report back if lte works.
I bet the hardware is identical between the two phones and its only the firmware/software making the difference.

Did you have some success with aussie baseband. For me I have 3G and HDSPA+, but no LTE (logical since the swiss operators don't emit in the 700Mhz band). But they are identical to Australie and xt905.
If anyone already succeeded to have LTE working in europe on the xt907, please share

Use the xt907 vzw but restore the Rabbit's deodexed mod here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246081
It has a special radio widget & if you restore it my way you can use it on vzw. You could have both versions on your sd. For unlocked bootloader only.

Hum seems nice.
But I'm actually on CM (with unlocked bootloader of course), and I did rather prefer to avoid changing my rom, cause if I understood well, it is what your solution request.
Or am I mistaken ?

Great idea but there are no TMo offers yet. They plan to put it in their stores around 8-15 May. So if there is no chance to unlock ATT one I'll wait for TMo.
I'd wait. With the AT&T version you'll only get 850mhz/1900mhz HSPA, whereas the LTE would work fine. You'd definitely want AWS HSPA+ if your on T-Mobile. Their 1900mhz refarming is very spotty and not matured.

Yes anyway I need HSPA+. I use ATT Note2 that supports it. But it is unknows if ATT GS4 supports it as well.
You should definitely wait. Or if you're buying outright full price, just get the international I9505.
Well thanks i9505 is too expensive
1-2 more weeks not a big deal then
If you live in Queens there are some T-Mobile stores launching the fone on the 1st... Actually only 3 stores in Queens launching on the 1st.
It does not support the AWS 1700 band, so wait for the TMobile version. The hardware is not there.
The ATT S3 and Note 2 did not support AWS HSPA out of the box, but a quick tweak using the Qualcomm software fixed this.
Perhaps the same fix applies to the new chipset in the S4?

Tmobile or ATT version S4
Will T-mobile S4, which I am sure will come as locked, work on ATT network (3G/4G/LTE) once unlocked? It appears that ATT version lacks Tmobile's 1700 band for 3G/4G. But does Tmobile version S4 comes with 1700/1900/2100 plus LTE band that works at both carriers provided that it is unlocked? If not is there an S4 unlocked version that can be purchased so that it works at both carrier's 3G/4G/LTE?

4g lte shoukd work straight out of the box since tmobile uses the same lte band as at&t. and im pretty positive hspa should work too cause you dont need 3 bands all time. I have tmobile note 2 on att and i have all 2g hspa and lte.

Could you please provide a source for this? I've been looking but can't find any confirmation. I was thinking both phones would have the same hardware (cheaper to manufacture) but the modem firmware would simply disable some bands on the AT&T model.

Turns out the hardware is identical on both the AT&T and the T-Mobile models. More info on this post. Cross-referencing posts to avoid duplicating info, and in case someone is interested.

i337 works with AWS (TMOBILE, WIND, MOBILICITY )?

I'm surprised it hasn't been brought up to attention yet, but is it possible for the i337 to work on AWS band?
The reason I'm asking this is because I've found services through kijiji to modify the i337m (Canadian version) to work with WIND and MOBILICITY.
mod edit: advertising paid services is not allowed
I highly doubt those people will tell you exactly how to mod it and I don't have a S4 yet but maybe it's the same method use to mod the gnote 2.
I'm really hoping someone could try it out and see what happens, maybe even with a tutorial if it's successful.
I have seen this ad as well. I have galaxy s4 from Bell (SGH i337m). I have tried the Note 2 method but that does not work on it. There must be a new trick which someone has figured out but they are using it commercially.
the only carrier that has both aws and regular 2600mhz lte is rogers (at least in canada) and they are rebranding it to lte max
http://www.mobilemag.com/2013/05/02/rogers-launches-lte-max/
and yes, the gs4 does switch between 1700-2100 and 2600 bands and its the only phone to do it

Bell and Rogers will both carry the i337m model so I guess it won't make a difference either way if the phone is unlocked.
But what do you mean it can switch between 1700-2100? I didn't think aws is a original supported banned for the i337.
Originally they are able to switch between LTE Aws 1700/2100 and 2600 but the HSPA 1700/2100 is disabled in software of SGH i337 and 337m. We are talking about Kijiji ads where people are able to sim unlock and enable Hspa 1700/2100 on these phones.

1700 and 2100mhz are the regular LTE bands, maximum theoretical speeds of 75 and 100mb/s respectively. 2600mhz is AWS, aka Rogers' LTE Max which has 150mb/s. As of now, the only carrier in Canada to have AWS is Rogers and in the US, T-Mobile seems to have it and verizon are planning for it sometime this year, AT&T seem to have it too but at 2300mhz, i'm not sure why tho. The GS4 can switch between AWS and LTE, which also mean that it will be doing that when the 700mhz spectrum war will be over. And the 700mhz war is probbaly the most important technological advance for the mobile industry as that frequency can go through very thick walls other material that greatly diminishes current LTE bands.

That's because AT&T's S4 doesn't support those other bands. It has been reported that T-mobiles S4 does plus it also works on AT&T's network (LTE included).

im pretty sure it does, it would be less expensive for samsung to disable the AWS bands by software then to create a new motherboard with other hardware that doesnt support it. I'm ready to bid 100$ that it has the hardware for it, just not active
Just to clarify some of the incorrect info / misunderstandings here:
The S3 and Note 2 (ATT / Rogers / Bell / TELUS variants) had a Qualcomm tweak that enabled AWS HSPA so that the hardware would work on T-Mobile / WIND / Mobilicity.
The question is if a similar tweak will work on the I337/M (ATT / Rogers / Bell / TELUS variants). I am curious because when I travel to the US, I use T-Mobile.
From what I read, out of the box, the T-Mobile variant of the S4 will work on all the carriers, but the ATT variant will not (like the S3 / Note 2 before it, a tweak is required).

ive come to realize with the s4 that att and perhaps other us carriers are plain simple assholes. Sure, you might have a 2 year contract when us canadiens have 3 years contracts, but at least we have unlocked bootloaders, we can use hotspotting without carriers shutting us down, we dont have throttling and we have the 50gb dropbox offer regardless if our carrier has its own cloud storage.

Sorry guys but I do not exactly understand if the S4 can work on Wind Mobile or not?
I have a Nexus 4 which I want to sell (tired of terrible battery life with an average camera) and I want to buy the Rogers S4. If I were to unlock the S4 can it run on Wind Mobile 3G?
Thanks in advance.

Not picking up all network frequencies ?

Hi,
Got an unlocked XT905 on ebay. supposed to be quadband in the specs.
I'm on Rogers wireless in canada, that use gsm 850 and 1900. So i should find the network but it's not. Only find Bell and Telus networks.
My other quadband phone find 4 networks, Rogers 3g, Rogers 2g, Telus and Bell.
so half of the frequencies of the brand new XT905 are obviously not working.
Phone have the australian Telstra firmware on it i guess, there's 2 apps from Telstra.
Is the phone defective ? Or i need to flash something on it ?
thanks
Well after a lot of reading i'm still lost.
I could maybe try a rom on it but it came already updated to 4.1.2 and the bootloader is locked and i don't want to play with that.
Any ideas?

Note3 AT&T VS T-Mobile

Hi, Does any know if its all vice versa?
NOTE3 AT&T and T-Mobile NOTE3 using it with a T-Mobile SIM, (vice versa) T-mobile & A&T NOTE3 using AT&T SIM?
(Both NOTE3 is unlocked & using in urban BIG city)
Will there be any difference speed LTE and speed 3G & 4G you receive?
Will the LTE signal not be as strong each other?
Will be any problem each other (vice versa)?
Do you think we can enable AWS on NOTE3 AT&T? (same like Note2 and S4 AT&T)
Which hardware Note3 AT&T or T-Mobile is better having multi-LTE or more compability network each other (freq band spectrum)?
I don't really know much about LTE signals between AT&T and T-Mobile, compatibility, etc. So, I was wondering if you can help me to decide which one are those? How long to get unlock code from the 1st day i purchased with full price NOTE3 AT&T and T-Mobile?
Please...please... help for answer & information. I'm very appreciate and thank you so much for explanation everything. :good::victory:
P.S. Sorry & apologize about my bad english
If S4 history repeats itself the ATT buyers will be stung with crappy locked bootloaders. Meanwhile the TMO device is pentaband and unlocked bootloader. Depending on battery life benchmarks the only sane decision is between TMO Note 3 and the international N3.

Not to hijack the thread but does anyone know which one would be compatible for Wind/Mobilcity (Aws Canadian Market)?
Note 3 from At&Tor T-Mobile... in the past I believe T-Mobile phones are compatible because of 1700 and 2100 frequencies... however due to T-Mobile refarming (I have limited knowledge about it) and new frequencies.... would an At&t note 3 be modified to work on aws

To my knowledge, the international Note 3 does not have LTE radios. It has an octacore instead of quad but thats the trade off.

There are two models: one is the octa-core with no LTE. The other is Snapdragon 800 with LTE. However, both will only get HSPA+ on AT&T (anywhere) and HSPA+ on T-Mobile (in refarmed areas). The international LTE model won't get US LTE because we don't use the same LTE bands as they do in Europe.
In the US, if you're on a GSM network the best model to get is the T-Mobile model, even if you're on AT&T. It works 100% with AT&T and T-Mobile (refarmed areas or not) and has an unlocked bootloader.

Yes. 850/900/1800/1900 on EDGE, and 850/[900 isn't mentioned but I assume it's there]/1700/1900/2100 for HSPA+. It should work fine.
EDIT: Confirmed 900 MHz is there. Look at the last post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536817
Europe uses 900 and 2100 MHz for HSPA+ mainly. Both are supported. The AT&T version would also work fine, but the T-Mobile version is the best one to get because of the unlocked bootloader and additional AWS support (1700 MHz), which T-Mobile uses in the US. To me it's worth paying a little more for the T-Mobile version.

[Q] Unlocked G2 on T-mobile

Hi,
I am looking to buy a factory unlocked G2 and flashing custom rom on it like CM10.2, and use it on T-mobile. Just want to make sure I could get LTE speed, correct?
Currently on Nexus 4 on T-mobile monthly 4g, enjoying LTE 4G speed, so, just want to be sure...
I would suggest you still buy the T-Mobile version, depending on what's important to you. As far as I know, the AT&T version doesn't have 1700mhz AWS band for HSPA+ to fall back onto if you don't have LTE. The two devices (D800 and D801) both have the same LTE bands.
Which version are you considering? I don't know if any of the other versions work on T-Mobile's Band 4 LTE, but when I checked a few weeks back, they didn't. You may be stuck with a T-Mobile version.

Factory unlocked, e.g. : http://www.amazon.com/LG-G2-32GB-Un...qid=1382743380&sr=8-3&keywords=unlocked+lg+g2
The specs listed on that page for LTE are:
4G Network LTE 850 / 1800
Neither of those are T-Mobile bands in the US. Are you planning to use it in the US, or T-Mobile in another country like the UK? I think the UK uses 1800mhz, but I'm just speculating at this point. Sorry I can't be more help!
