battery drains.. sort of

Does anybody know sone work around regarding this? Because its starting to annoy me, have you ever experienced when you are using your device,the battery warning suddenly pops up and says that you must charge already and the battery percentage suddenly changes to 3% eventhough awhile ago there is still 50% left, but when you reboot it chages back to 50%, what could be a possible culprit, this happens a few times to me a day and im tired of rebooting everytimethe warning pos up.
Any advice is appreaciated

well this isnt an acutal solution but have you tried actually draining your battery down to 3% recently? By doing that you are "calibrating" the battery life sensor and maybe that will cause this issue to occur less frequently?
This happened to me once so I did that and havent had a problem since. Hopefully it works for you!

Somehow if ido a reboot it just goes back to normal..maybesomething is messing up with the battery sensors,i did let it drain but some how it still the same, i had read on a similar thread about a bump charge or something maybe i could try that and lets see from there

on verizon tab SCH-I800 - does the same thing ... mine seems to happen around 33% though. (i thought it was something with the 33% .. since it would drop down to 3%) ..
i think samsung should really push out an update to address some of the glitches in these tabs..

Tried the recalibration thing. Problem still exists.

thats a similar issue i get,. Yes i tried the recalibration charge also and still having the problem, i did a factory reset also and it did nothing.. Im really desperate for some fixes..

Mine jumps from 15% to 3%. Quite annoying, I assumed that it is because it is poorly calibrated and so it doesn't realise its actually critical until its 15%.
I tried calibrating it by running it until it switches off, and then fully charging. However, that didn't work.
If in reality the battery is at 15%, then its a pretty bad software bug.

Maybe deleting the battery stats solves the problem?

I think its getting worse on mine now after a full charge after i remoce the charge around 2min. It says 3% again what the heck?

try to flash it with rotohammer rom JHA/JMC it might fix the issue. My problem with GT was battery draining too quickly but after flashing it's much better now.

This worked for me too, however I had to do it 2 or 3 times. I haven't had any problems since.

I think i sorted it out also by calibrating battery,i removed the battery stats using the root explorer,now im still observing the progress

Brand new sprint tab, only installed the over clock kernel first week i got the.
Today, which would be week 3, i experienced the 35% to 3% drop instantaneousness..... So, im draining the battery, and hopefully doing a full recharge...

I also have a sprint tab and it is three months old. I have not put another rom on it, only rooted it. It also has developed this battery problem recently. It will go from 53 to 3 all of the sudden.

Not too sure what's the issue but it does sound like a program consuming too much CPU or the battery calibration issue.

[Q] Battery defect or rom issue?

Sorry I can't post this in the Paranoid Android thread yet. As a noob I can't post in that forum until I have 10 posts so I'm at a loss as to where I should post this.
Anyway, I just put the new 2.1799 PA ROM on my Nexus 7. Unfortunately, I seem to have a serious battery drain when the screen is on. I have read many posts where people claim to have easily achieved 6+ hours of active screen time per battery charge whereas I'm only getting 3-4 hours of active screen time per charge, almost all of it related to web surfing. I have a strong wifi signal and I keep my screen brightness around 20/30 range. I'm not sure if it's the ROM or if my battery is defective.
I have also read about a battery calibration app through a different thread. Is that necessary for the PA ROM? I didn't see anything in the tutorial mentioning a battery calibration.
Included are two pictures, although they aren't very indicative of my problem as my tablet was sitting in my backpack for most the day.
Please tell me I'm just being paranoid! Thank you for the help!

The battery recalibration is a myth, but there is also no harm in trying it.
according to the pics you have attached, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong.
Battery also drains faster if you have too many apps that have services running.
Ex: Facebook.

I know there is a battery warranty, but how bad does it have to be to get it replaced? My battery cannot reach the 9.5hrs of 720p video playback (with headphones in) as achieved by Asus. I can only get 8hrs. From normal usage, I am only able to get 6 hours.

The ROM has less to do with the battery than the kernel does.
I would say try flashing another kernel. The default cyanogenmod kernel that comes with Paranoid Android didn't give me very good battery life.
Franco kernel gives me excellent battery life. Other good ones for battery are Faux or Motley.

That is in the normal range i would say, Companies usually exaggerate.
As suggested try franco's kernel.
He has a free kernel flashing app on the play store.

My issue is with how the battery percentage is running down......
Charge the N7 to max and use it for a good 2 hours and the battery STILL reads 100%.
Even if I then shut down and reboot it still shows 100%, then all of a sudden it will start to drop very slowly at first until it gets to around 40% which it then shuts down and will not reboot, obviously void of any battery cells.
Clearly it's a calibration issue.
This is on a stock non-rooted machine.

I tried his kernal. I did my video play back test and I got the same 8 hours as before. During normal usage I think I will get about 30-40 more minutes. Still not what others are getting

Try a factory reset. If that doesn't work, you're more than likely actually looking at it being a hardware issue.

Factory reset was the very first thing I tried when it started playing up.... I'm hoping when 4.1.2 rolls out it may clear it. If not then I'll have to look at doing a root and access the battery file to see if deleting may help.
Thing is a recharge should clear out the battery file stats and calibrate, which clearly it's not.
Apart from this the N7 is flawless so it's staying with me. Running hours is the same, just doesn't give an accurate reading of how the battery is running down.
It's not a big issue.... to be honest I'm more curious than annoyed.

Have you tried installing a 3rd party battery app to see if it registers the correct battery output? This is the one I have used, works good. GL

You do realize that wiping batterystats.bin has absolutely nothing to do with the battery fuel gauge, right? It does not "calibrate" the battery or affect reported charge. The myth of wiping battery stats has long since been debunked by Google's Android engineers. The only info contained in the file is a list of apps that used battery since the last full charge.
The only other thing you could do besides a factory reset is see if 4.1.2 fixes it for you. If not, then it's definitely hardware causing the issue- the battery charge is likely being improperly read and reported by the battery itself.

n00b here, need help with battery issues

Hi there; this is my first post so please go easy on me.
Bought a Nexus 4 which is my first Android device, but the battery life is bugging the hell out of me. Surely the screen should always be at the top, right? I left it to sleep overnight on a full charge to find that it had shot down to 60% when I woke up at 7 this morning.
I haven't rooted or flashed or anything like that, because as I said, I'm an Android virgin. I have location settings off, only Gmail syncing and the usual push notifications here and there. Nothing too fancy or strenuous.
Any help on how I can go around fixing this? I'm a little afraid to rooting/flashing/ROMs etc, because I've no clue what works best.

If your saying you left the screen on over night, meaning the phone never went into deep sleep.. If you slept for let's say 6 hours and the phones screen was on for that whole time it's normal that it went down to sixty percent battery.
Maybe I'm understanding your post wrong? Btw I cannot see the picture you posted.

Turn off mobile data and lower the screen brightness to 0 during the day. Also disable WiFi when you're sleeping. I also make sure all apps are closed using the app manager button on the far right.
Mine's been fine following this logic.

This is NOT the answer. His battery in the image has dropped 7%. If he hasn't used the screen much it is perfectly understandable that screen might not be a large percentage of that 7%. As he uses the phone more screen will use a larger percentage of his battery and Android OS will use less.
If he gets to the point where the screen is on for an hour or two and the percentages are still like this then yes there is a problem.

My android system has never been that high, regardless if I used the phone for 10 minutes or 10 seconds , or not at all.

Actually No the "Screen" should not always be at the top of the stat list. If you use the phone more than it idles, then yes... but if you are like me, mine says "Phone Idle: 20%" (which is on top) and "Screen" is 4th on the list with 12% (Wi-Fi and Cell standby above it) [this is my personal phone, and I mostly use my work phone. hence the high Idle & standby]
I was having an issue with my phone running out of battery, with very little usage from it. I mean very little, I might make 2 calls from it each day, and respond to an email now and then. I found that an App was preventing my Screen from going into "Deep Sleep" or even "Sleeping" possibly. So I uninstalled all apps (well I only had like 4 additional apps installed), except for 2 that I need (Google Voice & Drive). Powered off the phone, charged it fully, then powered back on. Its been running on the same charge for 24+hrs now and reads 68% battery remaining.
So check the apps you have installed, some use background data, and might be causing problems...

And your phone is the definitive guide for what Android OS usage is? Maybe his phone woke up those services for a period of time longer than normal.
The answer of "lol looks wrong root and install kernel" is terrible advice when so little information is given.

A longer battery graph would help a lot. If yuppy want top search XDA there is a free app called better battery stats that will help you diagnose if something is running in the background eating battery or even if your phone I'd properly entering deep sleep.

See now it is much easier to see that you actually do have a problem and what it is. You have the wakelock problem as you can see from Better Battery Stats which falls under Android OS on the other screen. It also appears that you have somewhat weak signal which could cause the wakelock to drain battery even more. There's not much you can do about that wake lock, some kernels have patches for it but those have their own issues as well.

Could I just install any kernel on stock android and be OK with it? As I've said I've no idea what's best for me; just something nice and clean that doesn't have issues like this. I live onsite where I work so my WiFi is pretty much on all the time if that helps in anyway whatsoever
I'm gonna let it run down completely tonight and charge it, but I don't expect it to help much.

I never told him to install a kernel. The advice I gave is to do a reset then I asked if he was rooted or running a custom rom or kernel because that might of been the problem.

Fully charged overnight, battery still sinking like a ship. 45 minutes and I'm already down to 94% already!
Idiot question; will installing a kernel just solve this? For now as a new guy I'd like to keep it as stock as possible before fiddling with it.

The battery on the n4 seems horrible.
I'm completely stock I just got my phone yesterday, I charged it to 100% now its at 64% battery with only 47 minutes of screen on time.
on the s3 I would be around 83% with 47 minutes of screen on time.
I'm gonna unlock the boot loader and root soon and try Franco kernel I've been reading good things about it.

The battery life on the stock kernel isn't great because the CPU management isn't optimized well. It ramps up the CPU (frequency, number of active cores...) very easily and keeps it there long, which removes the occasional lag but sucks more battery. Flashing a more battery friendly kernel would definitely help you if that is the root of your battery issues and not a badly coded app.
Franco's kernel is a very popular one, and very battery friendly compared to stock (and that doesn't mean you lose performance). It is the one I'm currently using. Most people report of screen on times of 4 or 5 hours. With not so heavy usage and wifi (not 3g) I can also pass 5 hrs.
To install a kernel you need to unlock your boot loader and install a custom recovery. No need to root, but.. why not since you're at it
You can try different kernels with the stock ROM. You don't necessarily need a custom ROM. Just be careful to read the dev's OP and instructions, and definitely not to flash a kernel for another device.
Also another thing that reduces battery is your mobile data, if there are a lot of programs that sync on the background. You can use a program that turns off your mobile data when your screen is off and switch it back on just for a sync every xx minutes. Juice Defender is such app, though I like to use Tasker for that. If you use Tasker and are interested in that project, ask or send me a pm. It works great.

[Q] Nexus 4 shows wrong battery stats

Hi, I've bought a nexus 4 about a month ago. I works great and the battery life is good enought but i notice that sometimes I connect the charger (when the battery is 40% full for example) and a few minutes later it says it is 100%.
Ofcourse it's not and some minutes later it drops. If I reboot the phone it shows the correct percentaje, but I happens very often.
Somebody has the same issue?
I didn't try to wipe the battery stats because I didnt install a custom recovery. Is there any way to fix it without flashing it?

Most N4's have some quirky battery stat behaviour. You'll have to learn to live with it, wiping battery stats, or reflashing the stock images, or an alternative ROM, won't do anything to address this.

It's the first thing I noticed about the phone. I've only charged from 0 to 100 in a second once though when I first got the phone, aside from that just the occasional lazy updating of the actual percentage. Stressing the phone a bit tends to help it "catch up" to where it should be.
Edit: you know, it's good OCD therapy, it may help you get past your OCD if you have it.
If you don't have OCD, you certainly will now...

Yes, the same happened to me, the issue is that sometimes I lost track of when it plug it to the charger and after use it the battery drains. It is very annoying.
I will try to charge from 0 to 100 a few times to si if the stats sync with the real battery state...

I'm getting pretty consistent reading far as 0% - 100% goes (course I drained the battery down to zero twice and charged back up).
What I'm finding that seems rather weird is glitchy mV reading with battery monitor widget pro. It does decrease as the battery decreases as expected, what's unexpected is all the lil spikes upward in it's value over time, like every few mins it'll jump up like from 3995mv to 4040mv or similar jumps as if the widget can't get an accurate reading of the battery's mV level. So it look weird because the only time you would see the mV rising, is if you're charging it.
And I know someone else on this forums with a Nexus 4 that's actually showing positive mA values when he's not even plugged into a charger.
But as far as % reading goes, seems pretty accurate now, just the readings I'm getting from battery monitor widget had me concerned that the battery was bad on my less than a week old Nexus 4. My Nexus 7's history/stats look rock-stable by comparison, kind of wondering if it's an LG thing.

Well this is odd... i think it might be an issue with the -kind of- voltimeter (battery sensor? i dont know how to name it). The battery life is ok up to now but the stats are driving me crazy!

Those of us who look beyond just the % available are easily driven crazy.
But then again because I do, I was able to prove a certain brand of charger was incompatible with my Nexus tablet.

I tried to catch it in the act via adb and shell last fall pinging the voltage, fuel gauge, etc... but that was all my n00b self was good for.

I've noticed that my battery % is off also. Not as bad as jumping up to 100% or anything, but I notice that when charging, the % is 20% higher than the actual battery. It'll say fully charged, but when I reboot the phone it'll say something like 83%. That happens a lot, and not always at '100%'. If I reboot anytime during the charging process, it drops around 20%. I haven't tried to do it right after I connect it, but every time I do actually reboot it happens. Kinda weird. Not even close to a deal-breaker or anything, just a quirk that I wouldn't mind getting fixed.

So it look weird because the only time you would see the mV rising, is if you're charging it.
And I know someone else on this forums with a Nexus 4 that's actually showing positive mA values when he's not even plugged into a charger.
But as far as % reading goes, seems pretty accurate now, just the readings I'm getting from battery monitor widget had me concerned that the battery was bad on my less than a week old Nexus 4. My Nexus 7's history/stats look rock-stable by comparison, kind of wondering if it's an LG thing.

My nexus is also showing +ve mA values while it's not charging, and the values are absolutely crazy, +268, +168, +1171
Is it a battery issue?
I have charged it completely (8 hours) many times and run it to the bottom , tried deleting battery stats etc but nothing has helped.
Shall I get the battery replaced?

tried to delete the battery stats file and wait for a while and see if any difference?

Tried that multiple times but no change, what are the possibilities? Damaged battery? Damaged battery sensors on the phone?

Well Google support definitely knows this is a big problem. After I explained the exact same issues I was having with the battery indicator being wrong they offered a in warranty replacement right away with no trouble shooting what so ever. Problem was they wanted to authorize my debit card for the full price of a phone plus shipping until they received mine back. Unfortunately I didn't have 230 bucks that I could just have tied up in authorization limbo for 2 weeks. So they transferred me to LG support because they have a return policy where they let you ship the phone back first. LG at first tried to say they only do paid repairs on Nexus 4's and that google is responsible for warranty's, but a little arguing about manufacturer warranty laws in the US and threatening to file a complaint with the FCC they agreed to replace the phone under LG warranty. Again they didn't do any troubleshooting at all. Upon explaining the problem they went right into replacement phone. This leads me to believe there is no easy fix or software problem they can update, but rather a hardware problem.

I have exactly this behavior all of a sudden the last 2 weeks.

I have worse issues....
We had the screen/digitizer replaced after my wife dropped the phone.
The phone now has some issues. It will charge, and operate ok until the battery reaches about 80%.
Then the touch will go crazy, and the phone will turn off.
Upon rebooting, the battery is suddenly at 0%.
I purchased a new battery and installed it. It charged to 100% the first time and the phone lasted for a while.
Then after that it refused to charge at all. Didn't matter how many times I did the power + volume up trick.
I put the original battery back in, and it charges, but of course dies after it reaches 80%.

Same here. Problems after screen replacement month or two ago, not sure that related. Battery went bad. After replacement with a new one (original not chinies) not stable: shows 100% charge then turn off on in 10 min, after powered on again shows 65 % and after 10 minutes plugged in 100% charged.
Driving me crazy... Fully wiped, factory reset all the same. Rooted and wiped battery stats not helped. Very frustrating if some one can suggest one else can be done...
The phone is just fine, powerfull . no reasons to replace

I also developed my battery issue about a month after replacing the screen and digitizer. I'm going to take it apart and clean the connectors and see if that helps, because I'm so annoyed I'm about to buy a new phone.

My guess is that the battery was damaged during the screen/digitizer replacing process. It happened to me recently. No biggie 24 € for a new LG original battery seems pretty cheap and the problem was solved. But why are nowdays batteries somewhat soft??

Anyone have bad battery life on g2? Any fixes?

Has anyone been experiencing bad battery life on the g2? When i first got it a month ago it was amazing easily getting 50+ hours with about 6 hours screen time. But over time its been getting worse. I already did the whole stopping the carrier iq and all that, it still doesnt help much. Now when i go to sleep and wake up 7-8 hours later my battery drains 50% or something like that for no reason, no wifi or anything on or synced. I did see some posts about people experiencing bad battery, this phone is supposed to have amazing battery life whats going on? I rooted my phone, still on stock rom, wondering if anyone has fixed their battery issue. Would installing a new rom like aeon v3 help improve battery like its supposed to be? Its getting frustrating, my gs4 had worse battery but at least the standby times werent as bad as they are on my g2. Any fixes for this?

There has to be something running in the back ground draining battery. If not try finding a battery Conditioning Application

Based on the above it could be a few things.
If you want to check a few things on the phone side you can:
- install GSAM Battery and let it keep an eye on what's actually using your juice. Then either remove, modify, adjust settings, etc, for whatever is using it. If it's an app... delete it. Reinstall it.
- You can try a factory reset
If neither fix it then you can try another ROM, but if your battery is just as bad with a factory reset I'd lean towards the battery. Maybe you have some bad cells.
I've had mine for a bit, and I only lose a little bit if not touched overnight.
My current setup:
- Madhi 4.4 KK ROM (1/18 build)
- Obviously rooted with the above
- Greenify on all my non-necessary apps (hangouts, weather and one other app spared from this)
- All my apps auto-sync features are disabled since I just run it once in a while, and things like mail / etc I don't need push anyways
I get pretty solid life even after a few moths of use now.
** NOTE: This is for a D800 **

first, install betterbatterystats and look for wakelocks, try reseting the device. batterylife also depends on how you use the phone...i can get 9hrs on screen time reading books with still 15% left or drain it in 3-4hrs playing games.

Yes i have downloaded and used gsam battery app. I dont see anything unusual in my stats, also using better battery stats, its been in deep sleep for most of the time, and it doesnt say the phone was on or running when the screen was off. But for some reason i wake up and my battery is decreased by 50% again....I am using greenify and hibernating alot of those annoying apps. I am stopping apps that are running . And on the phones battery manager android system is first with 34% but it says its only been running 11min, and no gps is listed. And my screen on time was 2 hours those are what i foudn when i woke up with 20% left, at night it was 70%. I seriously think my phone is messed up when im using it its not that bad, but for some reason when i go to sleep and leave it alone it dies for no reason....

Same thing on the phone battery manager it says android system is 34% with 11min being on,and screen is 2 hours. When i woke up my battery went form 70 to 20%.....i am using greenify, and stopping running processes, like carrier iq an other apps. i dont know whats wrong...this is getting frustrating, i have also factory my phone already, it was fine for a few days but now its constantly draining like crazy at night...i love this phone, but i think mine might be messed up! I definetly would try it. Also you could try different kernel. But its beginning to sound like there could be a defect in your battery. If nothing helps i would send the phone to LG and let the battery replace. You are still in warranty, right?

What exactly is a different kernel? And well i got it through craigslist, im not the original owner. you think they would still give me a warranty?

my battery has a problem too..
when my phone is idle sometimes the battery level increases by 1 or 2.
when im playing heavy games like gangstar 4 the battery decreases every 2 mins and the temperature reaches 40°C. and when im just browsing it decreases every 3-5 mins with a temperature of 34-36°C. and when im watching kuroko no basket (wifi off) every episode just consume 2-3% of the battery (24 mins. = 2-3%)
and the temperature is about 28-30°C.
I think my battery drain problem depends on the temperature
