My nexus 4 in the past two days rebooted randomly. First it happened when I was on google+ and the second time it happened when I was unlocking my phone with face recognition. Not sure what the problem is..
Other details: was rooted but then unrooted. On stock 4.3 with boot loader unlocked. Please help..

Once again it happened again on the face unlock screen.

Well, your phone is most likely overheating, you can reflash stock and see if that helps, my n4 rarely freezes but you can also run a logcat and see when it freezes what caused it.

I thought it has thermal throttling and plus it usually happens when I pick the device up from it in sleep..though I think I got the problem..I think it was face unlock. I disabled it today later on and I haven't faced any issues so far.

Just received Nexus 4 from US friends to here in India. I am getting constant reboots. They are very very frequent. Like once in every 10 minutes. Generally occurring when I make calls and into it 10 seconds. Seems like its hot reboot.
I received it in Android 4.2, which I immediately updated to 4.2.1, so I have no experience if it had the issue in 4.2.
I tried the following:
1) Factory Reset
2) Putting it back to Android 4.2
3) The latest nightly build of CM 10.1
The issue existed everywhere. I also have logcat constantly recorded before the reboots. Here is one of the instants:
http://pastebin.com/4JPW20xu
Any suggestions or advice? As of now I am planning to send it back to US for getting it replaced. But I want to try every possible solution in case it is a software issue..
Thanks in advance
Flash a custom kernel such as Franco. Kernel is what throttles your phone in temperatures etc.

Lemme try that, though CM 10.1 build kernel had the same issues.
Tried franco kernel. Still the same issue is there.
CPU Spy is not showing more times at higher frequency. Is temperature throttle possible?

I doubt these are thermal reboots.. It is probably something wrong internally that is causing it. Bad eMMC maybe?

I am using a deodexed 4.2.1 and official cm10.1. I've had it happen three times where the touch screen becomes 100% unresponsive. It always happens on the lock screen and requires a reboot. Anyone else had this issue? Could it be software issues? In the mean time I am back to stock back up.

I'm running rooted stock 4.2.1 and I've had a couple times when the lock screen didn't work. Screen off and on worked. (I would however miss the call obviously) It's rare, but I've had it happen on my Nexus 4, Galaxy S2, Motorola Defy XT, HTC Evo 4G, and my original Motorola Droid 1 slider.
I think it's a glitch and it can happen.
hey i'm on liquidsmooth but it also happened on cm10.1, try Minco V.6 and report if it happens again..
btw all on franco kernel( r23 & r28)
ps: it happens to me on nearly every bootup and needs about 1minute do get responsive..
My nexus 4 started rebooting once every 1-2 days randomly.
It isn't like a full reboot it just shows the nexus logo and then the homescreen, the whole process takes less than 10 seconds.
It occurs randomly, once at the homescreen.
It isn't happening to me. Try using a different ROM/kernel combo or a factory reset.

You might try a data/factory reset, save important files to the pc first. Or it may be an app (incompatible or corruped in some way) that causes this issue.

At least 2 threads on here already about random reboots. Try to not use any widgets that user location services, or try disable location services (unless you need them) until Google releases a fix.

Using stock rom unrooted. Never happen to me

Happened about two times to me when using the camera, very strange.

I'm using widgets that use location services as well (Beautiful Widgets) but never experienced a random reboot. From what I know, the nexus 4 and nexus 7 are both known for having this problem though.
This happened to my wife's n4 a lot. She wanted to return it but I convinced her to let me try something first. I flashed factory images and she hasn't had any reboots yet.

I've been having random reboots ever since.....well, a long time ago. No matter what ROM, kernel, or android version, it still persists. It happens at least 5 times a day. Sometimes 10. It even does it when I have zero downloaded apps.
Now that I'm done complaining, I'd like some help solving this formidable problem. Has anyone experienced the same thing? What can I do to stop it? Etc.
This is with an 8gb WiFi.
Thanks

After a reboot, you can know what cause this reboot with "last_kmsg" log. Look here for how to get it : https://code.google.com/p/tegraowners-ics-rom/wiki/How_to_get_logs
OK I did that. I scrolled through the unending file and at the bottom it said, "no errors found". Does this mean it doesn't know what caused the reboot, or did I miss something?

My nexus 7 rebooted while typing out this reply....so frustrating that this just happens out of nowhere. At least five times a day for me too.
Can't be the rom...I've been on pa 3.0 for a while and it was stable before. I don't think it's the kernel because I've flashed the top 3 kernels and it fixes nothing.
I am thinking it's a rogue app because my nexus is also draining battery very quickly and something is causing non stop wake locks and keeping my device from sleeping. Now I have to hunt down this app out of my 100+ apps
Android can be very frustrating at times

Revert to pure stock and if the problem persists assume that you have a hardware defect. Hardware defects are not curable with software - they are cured by replacement of the hardware. ( BTW, If you ran your device for significant lengths of time at extreme OC levels, you might have caused the damage; but that is for you to decide)
Mine has rebooted once in three months - but I could reproduce the crash ( using Chrome Beta on a specific WebGL demo ). That is very different than a spontaneous crash though, so I guess I could say it has *never* happened to me - and I have used the tab extensively every day for those three months.
So, I have my phone rooted running a modified version of CM10.2. Recently, my phone started going into a "sleep of death" while charging overnight, where the phone is still on but is nonresponsive, requiring me to reboot. So I downloaded Safe Charge and it helped... Kind of. Now instead of going SoD every night, it only does it sometimes.
So, is what I'm experiencing part of the infamous JSS ROM deadlocks I've been hearing about? And is there some way to fix this, or am I just going to have to deal with it until KitKat comes out?

SoD seems to show up randomly... I've heard that JWR ROMs have less SoDs than JSS so you could try one, or if your not into switching ROMs here is an app (free) that could help you. It's called Safe Charge, and the comments say that it works great.
If you read my OP, I already have Safe Charge installed and am still getting sod. I really like the ROM I'm using, but I may just have to switch to avoid this unfortunate issue.

Oops I guess I missed that part... I'm pretty sure that you can find a near similar ROM/kernel setup for JWR... If all else fails, try stock...
(Oh and if you can still RMA it, do it. People have speculated that its a hardware issue...)
No worries. I'm trying out SlimBean because I hear that doesn't have the issues, but not being able to use Franco with it is a bit of a bummer. In fact I haven't yet found a third party kernel that does work with it.

I had this happen to me with a particular rom. Everything was great until id lock the phone, then try to unlock and see nothing but a black screen. I switched roms and it never happened again.
