So before the most recent OTA, I had started to get random reboots on my Nexus 7. They would happen at any time, with no perceivable pattern triggering them. After the update, the random reboots seem to have gone away.
Now there is just one problem remaining: every time I uninstall an app it causes my device to suddenly reboot. It is reproducible every single time I uninstall something.
Has anyone else encountered this, and if so did you find a solution other than doing a factory reset? I'd really like to avoid doing a reset since I share this device with my wife (two profiles).
PS - I am running on stock ROM with root using Koush's root app.
Actually, the second profile might be part of the problem, among many other potential causes.

So I just tried to uninstall something on my wife's profile, and it works fine. When I uninstall an app on my (primary) profile, it reboots. I tried calling Google, but they just suggested doing a factory reset.
I also tried clearing the cache, but that didn't help.

so i am trying to fix this for a friend. her stock sms app force closes every time you open it. i have cleared the cache and data. no different. i have read that factory resets may fix the problem but they dont give what is causing the problem. which is not a valid argument to factory reset if they are just guessing. its completely stock. no root. any help would be awesome.
I've been having it happen too. Just hold down the power button and selecting restart works. Shutting off the phone once a day is good too

restarting the phone does not work in this case. i have tried a few times.
my wife's MT4G has started to show similar symptoms recently. random force closes, and she will have to reboot to get it to work, but once she reboots all of her messages are gone and smsbackup is not backing it up. Her phone is completely stock no root and never has been. (she won't let me touch it ) lol

My wife is the same way and her phone was buggy too...she got the update a week or two ago and so far so good....
the best thing to do is a factory data reset,as to why its force closing, it could be a simple bug or something went wrong on installing android on the phone. if it continues to keep happening go to t mobile an have them replace it,under warranty. the other option is to root an flash the new 2.3 update for the phone.
Hi!
After upating to Gingerbread my X10 starts rebooting every few minutes when I use it. Two friends of mine suffers from the exactly same issue!
Problems started: a few days after updating from 2.1 to 2.3.3
Mobile resets when: I use it (in Phonebook, Maps, Settings menu, main screen, ....)
I tried: format SD-card, new firmware install with SEUS (cleaned db before)
Nothing helped!
No difference if battery ist full or empty!
Has anyone else these problems? I think, that the new Gingerbread- firmwire is buggy!!
I have exactly the same problem,
I have tried repairing through seus numerous times (both after formating SD and full factory reset before install) I've also tried Custom ROM GB and using setcpu to restrict the processor and still I get random reboots.
So frustrating.
It seems to be problem on quite a few handsets.
What can be the reason? I tried isolating the problem, but the reset occurs without system!
Maybe the GPS? All three X10 I know crash constantly if trying to start Google Maps. Sometimes I can use Maps for about 1 minute and then... reset again!
I seem to get reboots using everything from Market to Vignette to Gallery,
It seems to reboot whenever for no particular reason.
Even the temperature doesn't seem to be the issue as it has rebooted with the temp as low as 37C.
I have absolutely no idea what is causing this.

I'm hoping I have fixed my Nexus 10 random reboot problem by installing the free "Wake Lock Power Manager" by darken from the Play Store.
Since upgrading to 4.4.2 I've been experiencing on average 3 reboots a day with 7 reboots on some days and a total of 81 reboots for April.
I installed the free "Wake Lock Power Manager" app early yesterday morning and I've not had a reboot since then.
I've used the setting which keeps the Wakelock always on as shown by the Wakelock icon in the notifications bar.
I think it might keep the screen on permenantly too but as I normally use my Nexus 10 with the magnetic Pogo charger lead connected that is not a problem.
If the random reboot problem returns then I'll report it.
Update.
Still no random reboots since installing the free "Wake Lock Power Manager" by darken after two-and-a-half days which is a record for me. So I'm feeling more confident that I've found a solution to my Nexus 10 random reboots.
I've kept my Pogo charging lead connected all the time and I've not done a power down since installing the "Wake Lock Power Manager" app.
I would be interested in knowing if the app has worked for anyone else.
I find this post very odd as I've had my N10 for over a year now, rooted, used a few different custom ROMs, returned to stock and only had reboots with few bad custom ROMs releases. If your on stock there is no way you should be having that frequency of reboots. If you are on a custom ROM then go to something another. Other than that do a factory reset or reflash stock and slowly add back apps until you find the villain.
From what I read in your posts it seems you only masked the real issue which means it will be that much more difficult to resolve the next time it bites your butt.

Thanks for your reply and your suggestions.
I'm on a stock ROM and I agree that I should not be having that many reboots, although it seems it's not rare judging by the number of similar posts on the Web.
I've tried a factory reset and downgraded to 4.3 which seemed to solve the problem, but I kept getting upgrade reminders from Google which I eventually did hoping the problem was fixed and went back on 4.4.2 but my reboots re-started.
I even got reboots after a factory reset with no apps downloaded other than those Android system apps which came with the factory reset so that seemed to rule out a faulty 3rd party app.
Without the Wake Lock app I would probably have had about 9 reboots over the last 2.5 days so I'm happy with that even if I'm just masking the problem.
I've read reports that the random reboots that some people are experiencing might be fixed with 4.4.3 due this month which would be a better solution than usin an app.
Another day has passed without a random reboot and I'm growing in confidence that my reboot problem is fixed, bearing in mind that used to get up to 7 reboots a day.
I'm enjoying my Nexus 10 much more now that I don't have to login and restart apps several times a day.
I wish I could hear that it has worked or failed from someone else to see if others with the reboot problem get the same result as me.

After reading this, I installed the app and started it with PARTIAL_WAKELOCK. No crash in 6 days, that's the longest period in ... ever!
I'll try the even less aggressive settings next.
Changed the setting to WIFI_LOCK_SCAN_ONLY, and the tablet rebooted within 2 hours.
Since I got the kitkat update, my nexus 10 start presenting random reboots. I tried everything to figure out the reason but with no luck.
However a couple of weeks ago I recharged the tablet using the micro usb port instead of the pogo pin connector (I've been using the pogo pin connector to charge the device since the cable was released) and then no random reboot occurred since.
I've read this tread and it seems everybody here that has been experiencing the random reboots is using the pogo pins to charge the nexus 10, right? Can anyone test if it will work if the micro usb connector is used for charging?
My VS980 for the third time now randomly started lagging and hanging. By that I mean the main watch on accuweather hangs, sending text messages and downloading hangs, and just switching through home screens and app list the screen freezes and then unfreezes. Apps barely boot and social, calendar widgets do not update, and typing freezes after every word for about 3 seconds. Restart and safe mode do not fix this problem. The previous 2 times I did a hard reset but it seems to only fix the issue for about 5-7 days, but those are annoying, so is there any other solutions or anyone aware of this such type problem?
Is there some certain program you keep re-installing that could be causing issues? Have you tried any custom roms?

Definitely sounds like a rogue program running in the background. My advice is for you to do a hard reset, then install apps one at a time (run it, of course), and find out which program is causing an issue. An alternative is that you google each app to see if others using the same apps have issues.
I got this phone recently from insurance, could it be something in Kernel issue or something else? I did another hard reset, I'll look out for any apps, but it happened randomly without any downloads or installs. I have no custom roms, and I only have news apps and 3 games from EA.
Question - Could this possibly be spawned by originally having rooting problems? The phone was sort of frozen on my first root attempt for some unknown reasons, the command box suddenly froze and the android icon was frozen, I had to restart my phone and attempt root again even though the previous root attempt started and was cut off, and the first time the lag issue happened was the next day. Do you think I should try un-rooting and re-rooting my phone? Or is that irrelevant.
Past oomberr
Are you running any custom roms, kernel, mods? Recovery installed?
Possibly a modem problem
I had this problem on my G2, and changing my modem seemed to fix it. I was using EUR KK modem even though I'm in the Middle East. Try changing to your region specific modem and then it can fix it, a dalvik/normal cache wipe can help. If all fails then try wiping, or switching roms.
Not really sure what's going on here the Facebook for example was working fine and now it crashes upon opening I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling that seems to fix the issue for a few and then the crash resumes. I've cleared data and Cache again it helps for a bit and the crash resumes anyone experiencing something similar?
Are you rooted or unrooted? Some times root likes to play with our hearts some times when it comes to apps. And some times even if unrooted as well. See if you can go back to the previous version by searching on Google for the apk. Just to see if it isn't just an update that just occurred on the app. It happened from time to time.
