[Q] MF3 SGH-I337 rooted to I-9505? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Can I install the I-9505 firmware on a MF3 rooted? How?
Thanks,
Caio.

No, because there is no recovery method exploit for those on MF3 firmware at the moment. Track the progress here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43890414

Not happening. You can't install a custom recovery, nor ROM. Please don't try to install a custom recovery anyway, it will destroy your factory recovery and you will not be able to get it back until the devs here come up with a solution (which could be a long time). Your absolutely stuck with rooted MF3, no exceptions at this time that me or anyone else on this forum is aware of.

Not no, but NO, and if you figure a way, android is looking to hire you....

ok, thanks for all

[Q] return to stock recovery?

I would like to update to mf3 but after doing the ota update it reboots to recovery but I now have twrp instead of the required stock recovery...
After doing a lot of searching the only solution I found was to flash the official firmware with odin, but I'm assuming I will have to do a factory reset after this?
Is it possible to replace twrp with the stock recovery without having to do a factory reset or is there another way to get the mf3 update with twrp? (I'd rather not have to re-install all my apps and settings)
I hope my questions make sense its late and I'm tired.

There is always a risk of screwing something up...so read the thread, follow the directions, and decide if you want to take the risk..it's your decision.
Why not just flash a sweet custom rom like omega v9.0? That's the best thing about a custom recovery. It makes it easy to back up your current content and then try out a wide variety of mods and roms.
It's kinda counter productive to flash a stock recovery when you are trying to mod or customize your phone.
Odin is the cats butthole when trying to return to stock. Also, read the poop out of these threads... somebody has done what you want to do already so most things can be resolved with the solutions others have presented.

The OP said he wants to update to MF3. I can't figure out why anyone would willingly do so either, but it is his decision. Personally I would also just flash one of the MF3 ROMs or International updated ROMs and still have the ability to use custom recovery with the benefits (I don't really think there are any) of MF3.

This should work. When you type the command make sure that the block number ( mmcblk0p21) is correct. Any mistake there and you will get a $600 paperweight

This is correct, but it has nothing to do with the OP's request.
I read this hole page and u quoted the op wanted to update to mf3 so I just reassured the op that there is a root method for it .I do apologize to the op

Thanks for all the replies.
I wanted to update to mf3 because isn't it a newer modem? I was waiting until root was possible which now there is a method for mf3.

thanks god did not turn my cell into a $600 paperweight  ... the process worked, but, when I try to do a factory recovery a sign from ATT says, in the top:
Secure Fail: Kernel
and a yellow exclamation with the following message: "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help."
has anyone seen this?

You can flash your recovery with fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/revocery.img
I ended up just flashing the modem it seemed to be the safest option

[Q] Soft Brick with MF3 - Help

With me not reading about Samsung latest OTA locked bootloader , I rooted my phone, installed TWRP and now I'm stuck at a soft brick at the flash screen.
I can boot into TWRP recovery, but after trying to flash Cyanogenmod, my phone hangs at the Samsung Galaxy S4 splash screen.
I read about a method via ODIN to 'fix' the soft boot, but how can I flash a new ROM on that will work?
Thanks for the help guys, I'm dreading telling my wife I bricked my phone.

Thanks, but the issue is I don't currently have any OS/ROM installed. My phone is completely wiped. When I try to flash my Cyanogenmod nightly with TWRP, my phone restarts and gets stuck at the Galaxy S4 splash screen.

Sounds dreadful you might have to join the others in waiting for a new kies firmware to recover the device back to stock.

You should have read a little before trying to root and put on a recovery. You can't put on a recovery and flash roms with the mf3 OTA. You now have a very expensive paper weight. Congratulations! Patience and hope are your best options.

JD, thanks. As I said, I didn't realize there was an OTA update.
Febby, thanks for the positive response. I'll keep an eye out for a Kies update.

That's your best bet. Once Samsung adds MF3 or a higher firmware to kies for the i337... You'll hopefully be able to recover it via emergency mode.

Doesnt sound like you were on mf3...try odin
If you were on mf3 you would never be able to even boot into twrp to flash anything...
So start over with odin
Read up on loki
Either get loki doki and flash after every rom flash or grt an auto loki recovery

That is exactly what I think. Flashing a custom recovery is impossible on MF3. Dude just forgot to loki it.

4.2.2 mf3 recovery??

Hey guys,
I have been doing alot of research but cannot seem to come up with anything. I have a i-337. 4.2.2 mf3 firmware. I have seen the safestrap recovery but did not want to use safestrap. Is there any other custom recovery that I can use to flash a custom rom? Thanks for the help.

Thats what I figured. Everything I read is from september, so I was just trying to get the latest word. Is 4.3 out for us I-337 users? And if so, Can someone point me in the direction of the tar file to install using ODIN, if that's possible yet? Thanks a bunch.

No Odin tar for 4.3 yet, but search through the 4.3 thread in the General forum and you'll find links and instructions buried in there on sideloading 4.3 via ADB, (if you don't simply want to wait for the OTA). Note that you must have a pretty clean stock phone to get it to work. If you want root, I would suggest rooting MF3 first, then enabling survival mode in SuperSU Pro, as that's the safest way to get root on 4.3. One more thing: no custom ROMs, recovery, anything is available on 4.3, just root.

[Q] Help? Galaxy S4 i337 can't boot TWRPs or CWM

Hey!
I recently rooted my GS4 i337. Everything is all working as of now. However, I want to flash an AOSP ROM onto it. So, I followed instructions and at first, I flashed TWRP to my phone. It said it was successful, but when I go to recovery it puts me in ODIN. I then uninstalled TWRP and got the latest version that is said to support i337 GS4. Flashed successfully, but when I boot it still goes ODIN.
I tried both manually recovery booting with the buttons, and the UI on the actual app. Boots ODIN both ways.
Is there something I'm doing wrong? How can I boot into TWRP or CWM so I can make a quick ROM backup and flash an AOSP ROM?
Cheers! And if this is the wrong section, can a moderator please move it? I'm new to this forum.
Thanks.

I found this a video on how to use Safestrap on 4.3.
It's for the Verizon variant but the SE Linux matches, can I give Safestrap a shot?
EDIT: Scratch that, I've found an ATT compatible version (3.71) and it booted into it perfectly! Now I can backup my stock ROM real quick and flash on my new one! Thanks!!

You have to sell your phone and buy an i9505. Then you can install TWRP or CWM on your Galaxy S 4.
I believe the ATT version of the s4 has a locked bootloader so flashing TWRP or CWM is not possible atm.

Is there any way to perform a nandroid-style backup/restore then?
I'd like to flash the latest stock ROM but would like a return path to what I currently have now if things go badly.
I would check out the Verizon s4 forum to confirm whether your bootloader is locked. If it is locked, there's very little you can install in terms of ROMs. Not sure about TWRP or CWM.

It's easy, if you have updated your phone to a newer version of Android, then your BL is locked.
NB1 4.4.2 is My Official ROM. I Updated It To NJ4 4.4.4 Using Android System Recovery And Then I Updated It 5.0.1 Lollipop Via Same Way.
I Think My Bootloader Is Locked.
Bootloader on LP is definitely locked.
So What Should I Do "audit13"
Once the bootloader is locked, you will need to use safestrap to flash files. Also, you'll be limited to tw-based custom ROMs.

Hi Dude.
Whats Up?
I Have Bought Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-9005)
I Have Rooted It But I Want To Downgrade It To It's Official ROM And Than Update It Step By Step After Rooting My Device.
Whats Your Opineon About.
All you need to run OTA updates is use the unroot option from the root program and have a stock recovery. OTA updates will not work on a rooted system.
The quickest way to update your phone to the latest ROM would be to flash the lastest stock ROM from sammobile and then check for OTA updates.
