They sent me TWO! - Moto X General

lucky me! They sent me TWO phones! They got my order right, and sent me one that belongs to "Brian"
So, if anyone in the Medford OR area ordered an X and is missing one hit me up!
I called motorola and they were like WHA??? I guess their going to send me a shipping label to get it back to them. Part of me wishes I never called them!

I am sure that they would blacklist the imei and then track the sim number to see who is using it.

I think that legally you are under no obligation to return the device. They mailed it to you, it is now yours.
Of course, its absolutely not the right thing to do...especially with a pair of companies you are in an ongoing relationship with (who you have alerted to the problem). Would probably just get the IMEI locked out or something and be left with a useless brick and bad karma.

The rules exist more to stop companies form sending something you didn't order and then billing you for it (or sending a collections agency after you). It is designed to stop scams and fraud, but it still applies to honest mistakes and accidental shipments. Basically if you receive something in the mail that you didn't order, it is considered a gift and is yours to keep.
I'm not saying he should keep it (he absolutely shouldn't), but just pointing out the rules.
Interestingly enough, while this applies to physical goods, it is not really true for money. If your employer accidentally cuts you an extra paycheck, or your bank makes an error that leaves an extra $100 in your account, that money is not yours to keep. Your employer has a number of rights enabling them to recover the money (varying by state) and banks have a very long time to figure out that they made a mistake and take it back from your account (and come after you if there's not enough left in the account).
If you do the right thing in either situation, you can't really be harmed. I saw a story once where some woman ordered an ipad from best buy, accidentally got 5 ipads, reported it, and they opted to let her keep them all in the spirit of the holidays!

Motorola refuses to repair xoom

Sent my bricked xoom in to Motorola a few weeks ago, they called today claiming it was not repairable, they are sending it back tomorrow. They didn't mention anything about it being rooted, just stated they will not cover it. I guess I asked for it.....

It's a sad day for you
This is why I got my 1 year warranty from Bestbuy. They cover it regardless of what I flash.
I wonder if there is any way to pull that off with the best buy warranty, any idea how long it is till you can no longer buy a warranty

You can purchase the Best Buy PSP (their black tie service plan) up until the day you can return your Xoom for a refund (30 days / 45 if you are a silver rewards member). With the Best Buy PSP you can literally trash your Xoom and they'll give you another one (stupid policy IMO). This includes rooting/hacking/flashing/doing whatever the hell you want to it.

You're making a smart decision. Unless you are 110% comfortable with development tools I would always advice against rooting and flashing custom software on your Xoom. In almost every single instance where I've seen someone come post about their bricked Xoom it was obvious that they didn't have the first CLUE what they were doing.
It was bricked by clockwork SD partition for some reason now they say they can't fix it

To OP, sorry to hear that. I had the same issue as you and the whole process from the day I called to the day I received the new Xoom was 7 days. I was kinda suprised, was thinking that I might have to pay for the repair. Maybe too many bricked Xoom sent in for repair with the same issue.

I wonder if it would be worth your while calling Motorola and explaining exactly what has happened, mention that you'd be willing to pay for a repair subject to cost? It would be a real shame if they can't help you out.
Motorola had my xoom for 3 weeks. Just got a call.from the customer advocacy office telling me it is not repairable and it is not covered under warranty, I offered to pay and they said no,
it is stuck at MOTO dual core, volume buttons are unresponsive

At this point if you got it covered under homeowners whats the point.
PS: I'd like to know how you got it covered for only a $50 deductable. Is there an addon to your insurance that covers electronics?
Yes there is a home computer and electronics add on for 15 bucks a year. Pretty much equivalent to best buys black tie warranty only better!! I didn't even know I had it till today. I pretty much wanted to post this as a warning, Motorola seems to have had enough but who knows. I figured they would replace it so they wouldn't get any bad publicity since sales are somewhat weak, but I was wrong. Oh well live and learn I guess

So you were hoping they would honor a voided warranty cause sales are weak? Don't want to be dickish but thats the risk we run rooting and flashing. It's like if i bought a new car put a blower on it and blew the motor. I couldn't take it back and say fix it. But glad to hear you found a way to get a xoom.
Not honoring a voided warranty is one thing; we all take on that responsibility the moment we unlock the device. Refusing to repair the device even if you are willing to PAY for the repairs is quite another. Hard to believe the thing is just a throw-away.
I have liberty mutual insurance, I sent it to Motorola not expecting anything but it can't hurt to try, I work in the auto business and we warranty a lot of things that are or should void the warranty but in order to keep happy customers and no bad press we just warranty it, I figured they might just fix it like they have for others, oh well, maybe ill post a YouTube video of it stuck at the MOTO screen and use it for Target practice Haha, or even start a site called WWW.trashmyxoom.com. Haha only thing to do now is laugh it off ....oh and don't do it again!

asus rma compensation?

so i sent my tablet in 3 consecutive times in the last month to fix a screen lift, which turned into more screen lift, then broken touchscreen, it is in for the third time right now and my tablet has devalued quite a lot(since the new 32gb variant came out)
does asus offer any kind of compensation for this? even if its like a tiny extended warranty(i mean seriously, when does a normal RMA last for a whole month and 3 consecutive times..)
does anyone have any experience with this? should i be asking them for a refund now(since theyve had my tablet in for 2 weeks since it got into their hands this time, it's just been sitting there waiting for new parts)
Haha no I highly doubt you will get any compensation.

since it isnt exactly my fault that their repair center was so incompetent that i have to send the same thing back 3 times in a row to get it fixed(and im not even sure if it'll get fixed when it gets back to me)

Not saying he will but its worth a shot. I've received things from companies when they screwed up. I had a heated seat short out in my BMW. Had to wait 3 weeks for a seat from Germany. Car was driveable but I coukdnt adjust my seat. Not a big deal at all. They paid my lease for the month. I have a few other stories like that and know plenty of people that have been treated fairly. Ever heard the saying "the squeaky wheel gets oiled"
Doing something would also include giving a refund. I'm not saying just pay him money. Return, free upgrade to 32gb, even a free case.

I have always heard some good experiences with ebay although I cannot speak on the amount of money you would get based on how you configure your sale. I personally always go for craig's list because it allows you to work out an arrangement that you both can agree on instead of settling. Works best if you use the built in auto forward email feature so that you do not have to disclose your email address to potential buyers and leave the possibility of being bothered later when the Nexus is long gone. Good luck!

Craigslist for me too, so I can deal locally and in cash. If you have a problem on eBay there's nothing eBay will do to help and you will be out either your money or the device...
I sold my HTC flyer within 2 days on craigslist. While there are still crooks on cl, by dealing locally and in cash, I've never had any problem. I also use the email forwarder and provide no personal details until I can smell that all is on the up and up...

I think eBay will get you more money as far as "hey, I sold it for $175" but then when you pay the fees and the shipping you end up with $125 in your pocket. Craigslist will give you cash instantly (no gaming playing with PayPal), and you will probably get more in the end if you sell it for less money.

Yeah but its not like you'll be out of anything besides time. You don't send the product until they pay. Some jerks will bid on a item with no intentions to pay but its not like you take a loss financially. Ebay will refund all fees associated with listing the item if the buyer doesn't pay. But it does suck if you have to go thru the hassle of relisting it again lol.

I second this.
my vote goes towards Amazon. this is where i sold my Asus TF101.
and 2nd to Swappa.
I go craigslist. But if you use craigslist post a number if you actually want to sell. Myself and everybody I know skip over adds that don't post a number, when I actually want to buy something I want to talk to you now not wait for you to ignore my email because your to lazy to take 30 seconds and delete your add (which really is that easy from an android phone) after a sell like a previous reply implied.
Thanks for the suggestions.

I would try another tech forum like Hard OCP or Anandtech or similar. Both have established markets with few incidents. Make sure the user can verify themselves, uses Heatware, etc. If that failed, I'd try Craigslist, meet publicly, cash-only, etc. The hits from either Paypal or Ebay alone is OK but NOT both. I only sell things on ebay if I know I can't sell it elsewhere (needs bigger market, niche item).

Definitely. Swappa and eBay are also good sources. Just make sure to use a bit of good logic and common sense and there shouldn't be a problem with either. any device that is registered on any network can be blocked/blacklisted by the account holder or if the EIP isn't paid off on a cancelled account. the IMEI is then unable to be used on any carrier within the US. You can still use the device in Canada or overseas with a local SIM card. the blacklisting is only here in the States.

The seller sold me a working phone, few days later reported it stolen. So he profited off me and also got a new N4 for a small deductible.

Yeah I understand that but in my experience T-Mobile won't kill the IMEI on a stolen phone without a few things in check first...like a police report and stuff. I live in Philadelphia, you know what its like calling the cops and filing a police report for a stolen cell phone lol...

Yeah with a police report. That's law here in PA at least. I assure you of that, had a phone stolen out of my business last year, called T-Mobile...wouldn't even replace it on my insurance without a police report.

I have sold and bought a few phones on CL and never had a seller call and report it stolen. Not saying it won't ever happen. I do always get a receipt with price and name and signature of the seller. Every time.

A receipt and signature will not stop someone from reporting the phone stolen and getting it blacklisted.

If you pre-order from Best Buy then it is instant, but through any other carrier/retailer you'll wait like 8 weeks.
Here's a thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/200-trade-promotion-t2883637

6-8 weeks once its confirmed. Who knows how long it will take to confirm. I will assume it is probably 3-4 months to get the check.
Still odd why no specifics if this deal covers full price or not. The wording is vague and that is being kind.
The bb deal says trade in value may vary, so you could just get $10 for that $10 phone.
The Samsungish promotion is fishy.
sent using mobile data only. no broadband in Rural America as was promised by both Presidents Bush & Obama.
I called two local Best Buys and was told you simply get whatever the value of your trade in is. I'm trading in an HTC Evo 4G, I get $22.00 off of a Note4.
EDIT: But buying through Sprint, their website says Samsung will "match" your trade in value up to $200.00.

Well I called "two" BBs and neither knew anything about it. One guy even put me on hold for like three minutes come back and said he checked all his resources and couldn't find anything but the trade in for phone value deal. If anyone checks and gets other wise by all means let us know. Facts only though guys, be sure to check deep if you hear that so and so said..

Works for me on my PC. Earlier this afternoon a BB employee and me couldn't get the site to come up on our phones and we were standing in the middle of the store!
I had to switch to Web view to get it working on my phone.
