i couldn't tell whether that was a review or advertisement
That was pretty crap. Nothing but an excuse to jam as many referral links and adverts on to the page as possible.
Besides that Galaxy Note is quite future-proof in terms of connectivity. Samsung Galaxy Note allows you to embrace 4G LTE with transfer rate up to 21Mbps, should your country has it.

This part is misleading though, in the Note's current form (with 1.4Ghz Exynos Samsung made chip) it does NOT support 4G/LTE. Only when it gets a Qualcomm chip (which is slower than the Exynos will it support 4G/LTE.
Loaded with the Qualcomm Snapdragon chip is likely what will be coming to AT&T and others in the US.
Question is, the Note has been noted to have some lag under certain conditions, so where it is present will that lag increase with the Qualcomm since it is a slower chip? And do you want a slower chip just to gain the ability to use 4G/LTE? One would have to decide for themselves considering of course such factors as...is 4G/LTE even available where they are and is it something they would just HAVE to have considering wifi and 3G in many cases are just fine.
Also, will the upcoming 1.5 Exynos support 4G/LTE and become available anytime soon in the Note.
For me, I want the Exynos in my Note, so within the next few weeks (barring some earth shattering revelation regarding a new, unlocked version I might have to wait a month for) it will be mine, then you all can tell me how to grow roots and do mods and such things.
Now that these phones have reached such heights of technology (not to mention...price) they should really make it like a computer where (at least for awhile) we can purchase and install ourselves a new CPU but I won't hold my breath.
Ordered mine this morning the white one on ipmart
I hardly decide between the nexus or the note and the note wins
With ICS it would be awesome
Hope I can put my hands on it next week

Yes. You are right. I have said this before in one of your videos & I will say it again... Your review has got to be the most honest, detailed & comprehensive report on this phone anywhere on the Internet.
Hell, NZ's review may be the best review about any phone on the Internet. Really stellar stuff and I am looking forward to his take on the Galaxy Nexus.
And speaking of NZ, that was one hell of a cricket win today.

I will vote for yours too! It's simply the best & complete phone review I have read in the last 5-6 years... The time since I actually read phone reviews
Another vote for NZ's review. It kicks ass over any other review of any other thing anywhere
Does anyone else here feel like the note was just a temporary stepping stone before the s3? I mean support from Samsung about the notes black crush and emmc issue have been ignored, most of the devs have jumped ship (not that I blame them) but I just feel that in half a year the notes dev community is going to start grinding to a halt :/ its sad because its a wonderful device and I love it but it just seems to have been moved on from so quickly by everyone. I mean look at the amount gb dev for this device! ICS comes along finally and not much has been done to it because people have moved on. Its a real shame :/

I have yet to own an Android phone that HASN'T happened to (large portion of Dev's/users moving on to the "latest and greatest").
We still have some great dev's though, I dont feel too worried.Along with the fact that many of us do not care for the S3 so I don't see as mass of an exodus as many previous Android phones I have owned.
That and it's not like we have a vast choice of phones to compete with the screen of the Note, which in all fairness, is why a majority of us are here. It would have to be a whole lot more of a phone for me to want to downgrade to a 4.8" screen, and that is NOT the S3.
Note 2 on the other hand... I suspect to see the Note community get much quieter
I was only thinking the other day how quite the note development section is now a days.
Why?
There are only (for me) 4 or 5 custom roms that are of use to me. And only 2 of those see regularly updated. The rest are old and using old Sammy releases or cm9 of which i tried but never been a fan of. As for kennels their is only speedmod for me and hardcore does not seem to update very often and in my opinion is the only stable one but is lacking in development to reach his high standard.
I agree that with this device I would of expected a lot more going on with it.
Its a real Shame coos I too did expect more and its getting rather stale at present.

I love my Note, probably the best device I've ever had... But I wish there were some kernels with bln! It really annoys me...

Personally? I have yet to see a device that scales the massive 5.3" size. Sure there WAS the DELL Streak before? but it's already been antiquated into oblivion (well there are still developers working on that device I believe, and most Streak users would bashed me for saying as an antiquated device ).
Anyway again, It's not much but just a personal choice or preference on why most people have jump ship to ride on the S3 hype.. I truly believe, given the size comparison alone, My Note is still a strong contender in any given smartphone field.
People can be superficial nowadays... all want to catch on what's in and what's the latest... some are in just for the heck of it.. and mostly are for JUST THE HYPE of it.
It's cool to brag along nowadays.. when you got the latest quad-core phone.
Personally I don't give a damn about people going overboard to the S3.. I am fully contented with my Note and what it can bring to my needs.
and you know what?
I gotta tell you, I went to a pub last week, there was this moron who was brandishing and showing off on how cool his S3 was.. He showed to a lot of guys inside, how smart his phone is, he toyed around, savoring the delights of the dudes there, playing games, using his SMART STAY and his POP PLAY... I can clearly see he was getting a lot of Ohhss and ahhs.. from the crowd....
hmm.. so what did I do? hmmm, nothing.. I sat beside him, popup my NOTE and played POP UP video and open up my POP Browser and played youtube video inside it. I then drag the two apps side by side on my phone.
Conclusion? Nothing.. the poor bud (upon seeing my Note playing those videos) literally just walk out of the club!!
So again, there's no shame having this massive phone with massive capabilities and features.
It can par up with dem quad-core joes.. ANY TIME OF DAY.... yeah!!.
Note rocks and Samsung knows it.

Yes I also feel like the note was a stepping stone. Some tried to claim that the note was the s3.

-1. sorry to say- S3 can not tale the place of G.Note, may be Note 2 and mostly Note 3 overtake.
is that true there there's less development for the Note now? So you mean I gotta go buy the Note 2 now to keep up? No SGS3 for me, it's WAY too small.

Yes I think you will have to move to note 2 as very soon Dev's for note will cease
If you want the best support, get a Nexus device.

It is called technology. All things in technology are so called as "stepping stone".
If there's no new products, means, technology go stagnant...
Means, developers are dead. No fantasy, no imagination, no development.
I like android, whereby the development is super fast. I thought I was just changing from froyo. Now we are on ICS alrd.
next will be Jellybean ? after that ? Will samsung stop the android, and move to Tizen ?
And it's a good strategy to use opensource like android, whereby, the software development can be just leave it to all developers. And manufacturers like samsung, htc, etc just concentrate on developing new products, and tease the end-users.
But, as a developers (programmers), just be frank... will you stay on old "toys" when the new "toys" are coming out ?
From what I know (since I'm a programmer also), I like to play with new toys. And if the new toys is much better, why not keeping on developing the new one ? As the old one, I will keep on maintain... But only when I can spare my time.
:victory:
I don't see it as a stepping stone but more of a test run.
The phablet market was completely open and unknown. So Samsung being the crazy adventurer they are decided to step in and "give it a shot".
If results were good, they would release a bigger and better one and give that one more support.
If it failed then, meh.
Clearly it hasn't failed hence the upcoming release of Note 2.
I agree that we lack a large range of developers, as compared to more popular devices like the S2 or the Nexus, but because this is just like a "trial" I'm sure as the phablet category gets more popular the Note 2 will attract more incredible developers.
Is everyone still in contract from the SIII or something? I remember the forums blowing up with discussion of when the SIII was going to be released, all the retailers carrying it and when they picked up their pre-orders, etc etc.... What's up, XDA, are we all asleep at the wheel here or is this phone just not going to be a success like the SIII was? I hate seeing a good device not being appreciated, but man, I'm hearing crickets chirping over here!
Hopefully when it releases, we'll have a ton of development just like there was with the SIII, but we're not even seeing root yet for the I337 - we had root a week before the I747 was released, and I rooted that sucker the day I got it home, launch day! I'm telling you, it's almost not worth having if we can't root it or there won't be anyone theming the S4.....

You may be right about the contract thing. If most people picked up the S3 in June (I believe), they wouldn't be eligible for upgrade yet. I'm feeling the same as you are about the hype but it will pick up once the phone is out and available. The other thing is that many consider this a Apple style "S" iteration of the phone. Software tweaks mostly so if you recently put down for the S3 and/or have the option of getting the S3 at a very low price, more people might lean that way. Specially if you consider how much development there is already on S3.

Yeah, my upgrade isn't available since I used it on the SIII, but I'm stealing one from another account I manage and the authorized user on, so you're right, but isn't it a good thing that Samsung is coming up with new tech sooner than later? I just hate that this is being looked at a negative thing, to update the phones faster than once a year....
God, isn't that the worst thing possible, for the S4 / SIII to be compared to the iThing 4S / 4? I don't see the S4 being just a slight upgrade to the SIII, I think there's a lot of redeeming features that made me want to upgrade.... I see your point and have heard the same thing about the S model update, but I'm happy that I'm moving up from the SIII, there's a lot left to be desired on the SIII
Oh well, #firstworldproblems, haha
I think my upgrade comes comparatively early, since I'm on an ancient, grandfathered, 18-month upgrade cycle per two-year contract... One of my other lines got an S3 at launch, but they are not eligible to upgrade to the S4 yet.
Meanwhile, I'll be happily burning my upgrade this June.
I agree, there doesn't seem to be as much hype this time around. But I know a lot of people jumped on the S3 and it could be a contract thing. That's what happened to me. But I had decided back then that when the time came (and that time is now) I'll be adding an additional line. That way I can get the S4 (for contract price) and then next year when my S3 is up, I can upgrade to the S5. It basically costs around $10/mo for the ability to trade up each year.

That's quite a bit of money to spend just to get a new phone every year, but I hate it when people tell me how to spend my money, so I'm not gonna do that to you - I just manage a bunch of accounts since no one knows a damn thing about phones, and switch out upgrades so I can always get a new phone when they're available, I have two upgrades to use right now if I wanted to, but I like saving one in case of an emergency.... you know, someone drops their phone and doesn't want to pay the full $600+ for a replacement!
I just saw this come through on Twitter:
Overwhelming Demand for the Galaxy S4 Causing Inventory Issues with Samsung
pretty interesting read, nothing special, but at least it isn't this disaster I'm over here thinking it is.... there were only TWO pre-orders at my local BBY! The girls there told me that a lot of people have come in asking about it, and when prompted to make a pre-order for only $50 that they can use later on something else if they don't end up going with the S4, they all declined - cheap bastards!! Here I go again shopping out of my own wallet.....
Ive said since day 1 i dont see alot of hype for the s4. I do think development might be better on the international models.
Less hype hopefully means more available on launch day. I just tried the htc one and didnt like it, didnt wow me at all. I was going to stick with my nexus 4 until the nexus 5 but then read google will soon anounce the new nexus 4 with different radios and no signs of a nexus 5 so I believe for now s4 will do.
Yep definitely not as much hype. I bought my S3 off contract, and now the S4 I am getting on contract. Just gonna walk into the store on the 27th and pick it up, seriously doubt they will be sold out, or even a line or anything close.
Hopefully its not like the Note 1 launch. I came in day 1 of release and they were like what is a Note? We haven't heard of it.

Good luck finding one on launch day, but if you do, post your results and let us know how many your store had in stock - I don't think stores are getting tons of them, but not many people pre-ordered, so you might be right!

Yes, use the search function for finding information. Doesn't mean one needs to post on a old dead thread. When we say "don't necro" we mean don't bring back anything that is a couple months old. When we say don't make a new thread involving something that has been said, we mean don't post a new thread that is answered in any of the stickies or within the first few pages. The other day, there were 5 posts on the first page with people asking if they could put a custom recovery on MF3 and 5 more about people bricking by trying to put one on MF3. Do you understand?

Hi,
I've owned every Samsung flagship and a few nexus's since the Samsung galaxy S2 days(currently own a note 4), And I've always enjoyed XDA (and Android obviously) as I could root and change ROMS and do what ever I wanted with the phone.
However, I learned my lesson when I got the Exynos varient S4 a couple of years ago. As many of you know, Exynos really lacks development with AOSP based ROMS. With my S4 while the Snapdragon varient had a working and stable CM ROM after a month, on the Exynos forums we waited for maybe a year until we got a sami-working CM, and even the last I checked, just to see if progress was made, I saw that those Exynos related bugs are still there(random audio problems, etc). Because I was smarter when I went for the Note 4 I made sure to get the Snapdragon varient and sure enough I'm enjoying CM since basically the phone came out while those with the Exynos note4 had to literally make a forum wide donation, recruit a random dev from xda, fund and buy him a device and since then I think only lately the've started getting some AOSP love(after months and months of dev, and still there are annoying bugs).
I have no idea if it's because Samsung won't share their Exynos sources or just because it's more difficult to develop with this SoC. However- If you are on XDA I can imagine you like having fun with ROMS. Maybe not everyone, but most of us like this site for a reason.
The fact is that I hated my S4 days as I could only choose TouchWiz ROMS(and they aren't that much different). This time, even if I'm not on CM, I can always flash TouchWiz: I have the option, and it's so very much different and not frustrating to be bound to only touchwiz.
The choice is yours, and if there was a snapdragon varient i'd tell you to pick it(..I still like samsung phones) but as it's only exynos..well, just like my S4, the note4, the S6 and basically every other Exynos device- you'd suffer from development.
good luck!
Edit: btw I was only talking about AOSP based development. For those of you that care about samsung updates more - you should know that samsung are treating their Note series very badly when it's related to updates. I didn't own a note2, or a note 3. But I have the note4 and I can promise you I've never owned a device that got treated as badly as this one. Maybe it's only the note4, no idea. But Lollipop update took months upon months to release and it was with many bugs. So far, we didn't get 5.1 as well, even though other Galaxy devices got it awhile ago. It seems like Samsung don't really like the Note series..
for more info just so you won't think I'm bashing for nothing: http://www.sammobile.com/2015/08/05/why-do-you-hate-the-galaxy-note-4-so-much-samsung/
**If you want Samsung to bring faster updates, and be more developer friendly, instead of buying the next phone and praise it- don't buy it and maybe they'll get the msg. personally I'm gonna go a non Samsung flagship next time and see if their attitude changes by the next note**

seriously though, 50+ people complaining about it not being a note4 and 5 people actually talking about their new phones.
IDK about you guys, but I have a note5 and would like to discuss the note5.
you know I am too over the whining, crying and fit throwing about the Note 5. All this *****ing isn't changing a damn thing and Samsung isn't going to change something that people are whining about anytime soon. I am all for discussing the Note 5 and leave the comparisons to the Note 4 behind us. Whew I feel better now .
This is the same crap that went on with the Nexus 6. Smartphones are moving in this direction whether we like it or not. Removable storage and batteries are becoming a thing of the past. If that's what you want hang on to your old Note. Let's move on people and concentrate on the facts when the device gets in the hand of users. Which by the way, is starting to look stellar and will probably sell well.

Actually in not trying to be patronizing I realize that this is about the note5 and specifically about its processor. Yes he references other phones but that was to show similarities between the exynos soc and the snapdragon soc. In a much shorter post he said.
"If you like flashing roms and you like AOSP then you may be disappointed by Samsung choice of processor. It makes development a pain in the @$$. "Be Aware".
Instead of complaining about complaints, read, understand, and move on if you don't like it. The problem is that you're on xda. This IS the place to discuss possible development OR THE LACK THEREOF. Not that many people have the phone yet. And to be honest the real developers probably aren't going to waste money on the note 5 because of what the OP stated.

Yes but this has been true for all Exynos SoC devices for years, it shouldnt come as a shock to anyone who has been even slightly aware of XDA and samsung for the past 3+ years. It is brought up literally every time samsung launches a device with Exynos, literally every time, which seeing as every samsung release in the past year has had Exynos, this should be common knowledge at this point.
Just because something is true does not remove disdain. Murders happen every 5 minutes. This is true. But is it something that people like? I mean I don't have a note 5. Nor do I care to bash it. But I do find it funny that people who are logged into and are users of a site that can sometimes be referred to as power user central are mad because power users are complaining about something lost that they held dear to them.
I really don't think people are mad that they are complaining as much as it is the volume of which they are complaining that is wearing on people. I get it with every iteration comes change, and with every change comes complaints about the change but there comes a time when you just have to say fine " I don't like this change and so I will have to deal with it or find something else that tickles my fancy" and go on. We all knew weeks ahead of time that the removable battery and the sdcard was going by by. The leaks confirmed it. Like it or not it happened and it also turned out that the battery lost 220mAh which really people isn't that much of a loss and considering that the other improvements like (processor, ddr4 ram, LTE radio, 4.1 bluetooth, ect...) it very may well surprise you, and from the few threads and articles that I have read so far that seems to be the case. Now is it really or is it the way they have used their device, who knows. but I have owned ALOT of phones in my time and I have yet no matter which phone I owned did a battery swap yet even though I have been known to carry a spare at times.
I guess my suggestion to the people that really are pissed off about the changes, write a letter to samsung or something to that affect because I'm 99.9% sure *****ing about it here in the threads isn't doing a darn thing towards change. I could be wrong.
And again Im not flaming the people that are complaining its just my opinion...
I personally won't buy a note device to throw asop on it. While it's nice to have the option, you lose all the functionality you bought the note device for any way. Buy a nexus if you are overly concerned about being able to run CM/AOSP ect. A nice optimized TW rom is all i look for with a Note as is the case with my note 4.

First step to achieving that would be simply ignoring posts with titles like this one has. Lol
Is it just me or the fact that every Samsung handset is being released with an Exynos might be a good thing due to the fact that the Exynos itself might have a higher bounty to develop for?? :fingers-crossed:

It's more a matter of sources and ease to develop for.

exynos is difficult to develop for whereas snapdragon is of a wider developer support

OP, I was skeptical when I saw your post but after reading it I appreciate your insight.
When I get my Note 5 I will miss being able to tether more than anything. I only need to root to be able to tether.

If it's like the S6, FoxFi worked great for the Verizon model.
demand and supply, as i was stating. Now that we all will be rocking Exynos, devs might be more prone to look further into it.
Here is a thread if you haven't noticed it yet that may shed some light .....

Back to the days of the GS3, the problem was not that there is no devs but that there is no sources.
Even now, there is no completely finished lolipop ROM.
According to this article Sammy decided to discontinue production of the Note 7. Therefore that should make the S7 top dog again right?.. At least until the S8 next year. What I'm saying is maybe we're going to end up with Nougat a bit sooner?.. Since Samsung only has 1 flagship to focus on at this point.. Any other thoughts out there?

It may speed up the Nougat process a bit but I wouldn't hold my breath. I know T-Mobile is in the early testing stages still so we'll see I guess.
It means we'll get it when we get it. Everything else is just Internet scuttlebutt.
Probably means that developers who had the note 7 probably changed to a S7 or Edge, which will probably speed up unlocking bootloader and more subscribers to this forum section. Hopefully we get the latest Android by Christmas.
Thoughts?

This like everything else is a misunderstanding. They are NOT going to ditch the Iris scanning tech, the s-pen and the rest. They have to much invested in the pen and the apps that go along with it. It would be beyond stupid to do so. My best bet would be no more phone labeled Note since the name is so tainted. I would bet we see an S8, S8 Edge and S8 Pro next year with tons of 3rd party reports of verification before launch of any. I would also bet that the many, many other series of phones will go by the wayside so they can focus on them.
We'll see but I am very skeptical about them ditching the tech from the Note 7.

I agree 100% with you. There's no way you can just abandon something like that. Esp. when that was a huge selling point for a like of people.
