4.2 had this issue due to bad touch drivers.. Which version are you on? rooted? ROM?

There's always a custom kernel!

If you want to stay with 4.2 you can just flash the old touch driver.. But if you wanna move to 4.3, PA is stable, Psx, vanir nightlies (found in the atom thread), and also cm 10.2 Roms are fine.. Just look around in the original Dev and android Dev section and see which ones you prefer..
Personally I'm running vanir nightlies+neo kernel.. Vanir is really smooth..

AOKP in my Nexus One

hello xda crew,
I am posting here because despite I joined xda almost 2 years ago, I didnt post too much hehe and i cannot post in devs forums yet (less than 10 posts users cannot)
Ive installed AOKP rom a while ago (v15.5) and I am very happy with it. I am using it as my regular phone.
Now Im just about to install the last version (v20.5). with less bugs, and more functinal things!
thx @zyr3x and Kang Team for this awesome rom, nice job!
if I attain 10 posts without spamin, I will inform you with the issues and all that.
just one question. is it recomendable to do wipe when updatin the rom¿ i mean, i was going to install aokp_v20.5 over aokp_v15.5 without wiping data and/or cache. do I need to do the wipe¿
i havent played with the AOKP rom yet but usually as with all roms, when flashing between versions of the same base, a quick cache+dalvik cache wipe is okay.
no need to full wipe/factory reset UNLESS the dev says otherwise

ok thx. i updated without problems. (wipe cache+delvik cache)
I recommend you to try AOKP rom, the best ics rom for nexus one atm.
before upgrading to ICS i was using CM7 (nightly version) but now i dont regret the change. having ICS in the nexus one is great, and works fine, with only a couple of minor bugs.
You should try Lewa OS and you may change your mind
i am currently use the same AOKP rom latest version i love the way it runs to mate as for lewa os it is not secure when running it in my zte blade we had to modify the run since it sent details and information to the chinese developers be careful of that rom unless the porter for the nexus one version has removed the same functionality found in the zte blade one mate

The ICS ROM uses different HBOOT size and JB as well so if you want to use JB you will have to flash HBOOT for JB. Video recording doesn't work in ICS and JB.

Yes, I flash the Hboot for JB that TexasIce gives in his post of Evervolv JB.
So video recording doesn't work in ICS too thanks for the answer
I see in your sign that your using AOKP in your Nexus One. Do you experience some lag? For example, I get lag in Evervolv JB when I use some apps like Whatsapp. Got some of those in AOKP?
I take some build.prop tweak on nightly JB and it works smoother now. Enabling vsync seems the key.

Yes there is some lag with the AOKP ROM that I am using but I can live with it. Planning to upgrade to JB soon because it's much smoother and faster too.

Best rom for nexus s?

Hi all, there are many roms un development section but i m confused which one to flash...can someone help me? Which one is the fast smooth JB rom? And with which kernal?? Currently using PA2.54 very slow...

There is dozens of this exact thread in the Nexus S forums. A few active and talking right now in this very sub forum. Its all a matter of personal opinion. Do some searches, read some reviews, flash and try and base your decision by your use cause no one uses their phone the same way with the same signals.

You seem new to roms, its probably best for you to start out with this combination:
ROM: Cyanogenmod 10 Nightlies
Kernel: Default CM10 kernel
or
ROM: Rasbeanjelly
Kernel: Trinity kernel
Also heres a popular list of roms and kernels
ROMs: CM10 Nightlies, Slimbean, Blackbean, Rasbeanjelly, Strawberry
Kernels: Marmite, Matrix, Trinity, Air
You can find all of them here.

You need to wipe everything (except sdcard) if you're moving from a different rom (PA)
Just do a nandroid/titanium backup and everything will be fine.
Here's the link to stock, rooted, deodexed 4.1.2 rom: http://d-h.st/t7o

CM10 is your best bet, other ROMs like Rasbeanjelly+Trinity is also good too but it's more likely a gimmick imo.
Definitely start out with CM10. I just recently got into flashing custom ROMs on my Nexus S (was rocking stock for a long time), and CM10 + Marmite kernel (smartassV2, cfq, 200/1000) is my preferred setup.
I've also tried my luck with Slimbean and Strawberry 4.1.2, but both of them always had little annoyances that you simply don't have to worry about with CM10. That being said, the AOSP-based ROMs like Strawberry and Slimbean do run very smoothly. I do plan on trying out AOKP, however, as it has a TON of customization options and appears to be pretty polished overall.
Slim Bean is the best rom for me, but I can customize everything so I have no problem. For most people it's better to use CM10 and the Jelly Bean 4.2 gapps.

Both the ROM and kernel can have an effect on gaming performance. Try testing out another kernel to see if anything improves.
Like I said earlier, I highly recommend Marmite for the Nexus S. It has great performance and battery life.

Hi, I just rooted my Nexus S (Mobilicity) the first time and I have some question here:
1. Should I just install this CM10 nightly cm-10-20121115-NIGHTLY-crespo.zip (seems to be the latest) ?
2. I found gapps 4.2 here ]highonandroid.com/android-apps/googleapps-4-2-for-android-jelly-bean-roms-gapps/, Can I use this for CM10?
3. Do I need to flash radio for CM10?

1. Yes, that's the latest nightly. Should be very stable, as far as I know.
2. DO NOT download that gapps file. The one linked in that article has the old, ugly prototype keyboard and has force closes up the anus. You can search this forum for better packages of the 4.2 Google Apps, but they are all still a little too buggy or incomplete for my tastes.
3. No need to flash a radio. CM will not overwrite your current one.

[Q] kernel for mytouch 4g

hi everyone , i'm newbie , pls tell me about what is kernel? , i access website htc kernel , i see they don't support mytouch 4g anymore , i want to download new kernel for mytouch 4g , pls tell me where i can download , thanks so much , my english is not good
Kernels are very ROM type specific. We need to know what ROM you're on. Then we can help you.
i tested rom ViperTouch v1.0.1 | Sense 4.1 | 4.0.4 and yoshi 4.1, but i have a problem myscreen about 1-2 minute flash and go on ,i try fix but i can't , i don't know why and i think to up kernel , i don't know where download kernel mytouch 4g 4.1
If you're having the screen flickering problem, it is kernel related. However, it is across all of the kernels on this device. At least, as far as I know. Sorry
Use an old rom that uses 2.x kernel or switch to GB.

I don't have screen flickering on CM 10.1 with the 3.0.57 kernel. You can try that if you want a newer version of Android.

i have screen flickering and camcorder problem on cm10.1 with 3.0.57 with mt4g. may be new kernel will fix this problem.
My never flicked with GB, but the moment I flash a ICS or JB, the flicker is on. Some said that it is in Sense framework and kernel, but I do not have Sense. With CM10 4.2.1 and .60 kernel, the flicker is on. Got to be patience. Some day, some one, will find solution.

What is the most stable combination you had/have?

Hey guys. Me and my friend here (both have the N4) ave rooted and all. We wanted to install a Custom ROM with a kernel. So by far what is the most stable kernel-ROM combination you got? ROM is a 4.3 recommended and PA is also welcome (but i think it still has bugs but i can live with it). Since they're too much ROMs to try.. I was hoping I woulf do the flashing etc after my exams are over. Peace!

if you want a stable rom you should try cataclysm rom. it looks like a stock rom and there are a lot of features in it(and those feature is unique,in the sense of you can hardly find all of those feature in other roms), Simple, but quite satisfying.
But if you like to customize your phone a lot, this won't be a good choice, you should try Paranoid Android.Hit the thanks!

Thanks for the swift reply bro really appreciate it... If u could tell me another thing, please... I guess I would go with Paranoid Android's latest build. Which kernel do u recommend? Im sick of these dull/washed out colors of this screen aswell... Know any good performance kernel with that color adjuster? Dude this is a nexus. Any kernel works with any rom as long as you dont use a 4.2 kernel for 4.3 rom for example.

Thanks all. I think i'm gonna take a plunge into PA really appreciate the feedback guys but still if someone can tell me what makes u have the new colors?

You can try PA by stock itself, or like me, although I like QS and Navbar with Option button, but then I still like Stock JWR with Franco's 174.

Hold your horses, I thought PA works on JSS? The kernel is not compatible. The only JWR is the stock, Cataclysm and those stated in AD section but there isn't much too.

Doesnt matter as long as you dont install a jwr kernel. You can just flash a jss build over a jwr build if you want. Only if you combinate a jwr rom with a jss kernel or vice versa you will have some screen flickering.

It's very unlikely that the ROM mentioned above is actually very stable, the first build for the nexus 4 just came out last week.
A better answer is to use CyanogenMod 10.1.2 Stable from here
Francos kernel is general pretty stable but the stock CM kernel will probably be most stable.

Okay so I think I should remain stock just for a while right? Cuz i see many roms still being unstable and all. We have XPosed framework so i might be able to do most of the stuff PA can do.. Or just go with Cataclysm rom thanks to all for ur wonderful responses i really appreciate that

[Q] Best 4.3 rom

Slimbean 4.3 Beta 1 has camera and location working for me. Running very smooth considering this is a single core low mem device. The magic setting in that rom is to enable "Allow purging of assets" and "Kernel samepage merging" in settings / advanced options / performance / memory management.
