I used to use touchwiz, but can't stand the slow transition, even after making the adjustment under development in settings.
Then i install Nova launcher, turn transition to the fastest. Wow, now my phone has over 300 mb free ram after boot up and is fast. And I mean real fast. For those who need speed. Go with Nova, and you retain most of the touchwiz features, like smart stay.

Wow guys seriously. So you disable everything fancy , what's the use of such a powerful processor. You could've got S1 if you wanted to disable every eyecatchy stuff .
All these animations shouldn't give S3 any kind of hiccups. I use a ton of widget and all animations are turned on (Although to a scale of 0.5 ). It's super fast and

I agree with you. I never understood the need fit the latest and greatest only to dumb it down. I don't get cm9 you can run it on many of phones so why spend the money on all the flash. I'm thankful for cm 9 cuz of my HP touch pad is now usable but will never understand the need to make every new phone plain. Just my thought not flaming anyone i like change sometimes

I actually like Touchwiz on this phone, seriously. All previous versions annoyed me, but it is smooth and flows well on this phone.
Touchwiz is good and nice, but i think if the backgrounds were white (in the contacts and call log at least) it will be nicer

Can understand you very well.
Have been an aosp freak before (or I'm still, but not at this device), but I'm pretty pleased with touchwiz now. Some ctl and build.prop tweaks and all works fine so far.
Also touchwiz has at the current stage already some small, but useful features build in like the battery percent or the pinch to overview at the appdrawer. Not to forget about the missing mhl support at cm10 which is a dealbreaker for me.
Additional I must confess that I don't like the attitude of team hacksung, even while their work is still much appreciated and they are for sure great developers, it seems to me they aren't doing it anymore because they like to do it, more because they think they have to. For sure it's annoying when noobs clutter the development thread with ridiculous posts, but that you have to expect at a device like the gs3 and the argument that they are doing it for free, yes, it sure makes their work more valuable, but at the same time, they knew it when they started.
My opinion is they or at least every member of their team on his own should focus on one device, maybe that way it would be less load for each developer and at the same time more benefits for the community.
Sry that I cluttered your thread, this I wanted to get of from me sometime ago.

Coming from a galaxy s phone, I remember wanting touch wiz back. The problem with touch wiz as opposed to HTC sense, is you can't retain the framework with a custom Rom. I feel there is more to gain from having a custom Rom than having full blown touch wiz. Look around though, you can probably find a .zip of the launcher here, so you can run a very close emulation of touch wiz on the Rom if your choice. I had a Rom on my captivate called "remics" which had galaxy s3 stock theming throughout the operating system. Just look around, you'll find what you want here on xda

It's the hidden stuff I love in the new touchwiz, like the native mkv and other formats, stay awake, camera app, t9 dialler, swipe to message/call, reject a call with a message..... and loads more really well thought out features. Touchwiz isn't just the launcher. I use apex and have it looking how I want (stockish), yet retain all the samsung stuff. Why anyone would complain about touchwiz on the S3 is beyond me.

There are some good dialler apps and message apps that have white backgrounds (or customisable) with the t9 dialling aswell. I can't remember the names, but you should have a look if you're interested.
The simple fact that I could not create folders in my app drawer made me flash back

I am running Holo HD but I like touchwiz. Especially the icons, they did an amazing job on the icons. they look so nice now and not preschool like before. So I decided to keep using the touchwiz icons for holo.
Yeah, the thing I love with touchwiz is the message app (stock android'd message app is dead boring), the camera app and a bunch of other stuff.
What kinda is a dealbreaker for me which I can't really decide about is exFAT support. Dumbing down my 64gb microSDXC card kinda feels like a stupid thing to do. exFAT is much faster and allows big chunks to be handled at once (like 16 exabyte chucks instead of 4GB ones)
The whole idea with their Nature UX kinda appeals to me. Soothing alarm and ring tones and beautiful wallpapers. Much better than previous touchwiz's.
i like TouchWiz , tried it on both S2 and S3, i also tried CM9/CM10 on both
I hate the TouchWiz launcher, changing the launcher to something like nova solved my problems.
lol because of this I just reverted back to touchwiz from ADW.
Is it because of the JB update my S3 stutters just by pressing settings or just by pressing settingsmenu button. Everything just stutters a little bit. Opening the appdrawer, the phone stutters or is to slow for the animation.
I tried 0,5x animation, didnt get better.
What should i do?
Is the beast supposed to act like this?

Unfortunately I have no concrete advice regarding menu key. One thing I found usefull though, is to clean autostart from unneeded apps.

You can try the leaked rom 4.1.2. It works very well with siyah 1.8 kernel or any stock 4.1.1 roms.
Just remember to full wipe before and after flashing any roms. (Just a safety procedure.)
I was just soooo pissed off today.....i went to my providers centwr and saw they started selling SIII mini, i swear-it was faster than my S3 which is running on 4.1.2 leak (wanamlite 5) and 1.8 siyah with some minor tweaks from stweaks, seriously, im kind of dissapointed, some mid end device is faster than flagship-this isnt normal

anyone else
I had some of those problems - some menus not as fast or smooth as the s3 mini in a store, the application manager crashing and stuff
- jb 4.1.1 stock unrooted - factory wipe after update from ics
So I went through and deleted all apps that I don't use, particularly apps with back ground processes like widgets (animated weather widget apps for example) and then after clearing ram as well, the application manager would work, so I went through and disabled Samsung stuff that looks unimportant
Now it all just blazes, so fast.

FYI odexed rom's a bit faster
I have removed almost every single thing from stock ROM and it still lags like hell. I was expecting it to be a bit faster after removing all the crap but nope, still slow as hell. It feels like we are back on gingerbread.

Then try aosp...
Everyone will have different experiences as no device is completely the same. They will all perform slightly differently thus you see dev's not coming up with a specific kernel governor, under volt, etc. for everyone. I would also try something as simple as a reboot if you haven't already. I would get heavy lag from time to time and a reboot seemed to do the trick

I used to flash ROMs but I typically just stay on stock 4.3 now. I use a quick settings mod to add more tiles and an extended power menu mod to get reboot options. Other than that stock is all I need.

I use an app called fullscreen, and stock rom is fine after a few personalisation tweaks (playing with MUIU theme icons currently). Oh yeah..Pie Control App, Power Toggles, etc...apps really can extend usefulness like roms do, just have to hunt for them.
I need the long press navbar action, and better toggles.
Instead of flashing different mod a custom Rom is much easier.
Not for me. I like the extras, changes under the hood, ect the custom ROMs bring.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yes. I've run stock on my phones since the Galaxy Nexus was released. I don't have the desire to do the custom ROM song and dance when stock does everything I want it to do.

I'm very satisfied with stock! The only issue is I wish with the default launcher you could change the pages, that's my only complaint... I wish I didn't have to use apex on top of default...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Generally speaking I would say yes, stock is great, but there are aspects to using something like Paranoid Android (lubz me some PIE) as well as CyanogenMod (volume rockers to change songs is something I simply cannot live without these days), so generally I will use a device for a period of time when it's new to my ownership stock, then do the research and find a custom ROM to try out, then another if needed, then tweaks (custom kernels, undervolting, etc).
Same old same old as everyone else for the most part I suppose.
i had mine for 9 months before i decided to try a custom ROM...
