Its a pc with an usb wifi adapter that only supports ad-hoc mode
Sorry, but I couldn't find any method for enabling it. I tried a couple of driver settings, but couldn't enable it. It seems that it must be enabled at a lower level. Easiest option is buying a compatible one

So I have tried several different methods to get wireless tether running. Can anyone point me to a method that works for sure? I'm not running a Rom and I have clockwork as my recovery. Thanks.

See here for all versions of Wireless tether for root users. I'd try the version at the very top
I actually have tried this. Do I have to be running a non stock kernel or a ROM?
no but you do need root id0 access. Use z4root. (Do a search)

If you are using Droid2 Global on non-Verizon network like I do and your operator/plan allows tethering, you can use the built-in tethering app, all you need to do is to define APN for tethering ("DUN" type). D2G won't let you create "dun" type APN outright (Verizon restricted it), but there is easy way around even if you have not rooted your phone. I use that on Rogers Canada and it works flawlessly.

What leobg says is true but as far as I know the hotspot app doesn't allow bluetooth tether.

Phone is rooted. Loaded a different kernel using clockworkmod. Downloaded tether apk from above link. No luck.

Weird. Idk what else to say. Strange bug.

Yeah,I've tried using WIUI, almost all versions of CM and I'm still unable to have a working Wi-Fi. I heard that there are some apps that can help me out, or am I wrong?
What happens: I click "connect", it tries to, but then fails and tries again.
Does Wi-Fi work in stock Rom? If not then you must check security settings in the Wi-Fi router. For eg. In WPA settings AES+TKIP does not work, only one can be selected.

Ofcourse it does. Only on custom ROMs it doesn't work.

Try changing the security to WEP , 64 bit.

Your problem cannot be for all custom roms. At the very least stock based stable roms such as ms2ginger must work. There are reports of Wi-Fi issues with the latest cm10 build and 2ndboot cm9, though I have had no such issues. Roms apart from these should not have any such problems. So if you're on such builds, try others such as ms2ginger.

Does the wifi work if you go to the router? In a range of a few meter?

I fixed the problem by copying the wifi folder from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Do I need a rooted phone to flash the 4.1.1 version, because i don't wan't to root the phone. It can't be fixed by changing the pass type from open system to shared key from the router settings (this works for me but no one in the house can access the network, only I can)
Where can i find these folders ?:?:?

At a friends house, the first time you connect a new device to their router you have to use the wps button, otherwise it just sticks on authenticating. After that it works fine.

for all who experiene problems with wifi after updating from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 here is the solution:
Root your phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273)
Download Root Explorer
Copy files from 4.1.1 /etc/wifi folder and overwrite over 4.1.2 /etc/wifi folder.
Youre good to go
Hey.
Could any experienced developer point me to the right place/commit for disabling usb debugging by default in userdebug builds? Of course I'm talking about sources, not "normal" way of disabling it through settings.
Windows doesn't like USB debugging, especially if we have no adb drivers support. I'd like to disable it in my own build but I can't find the way how to do so .
Any tip greatly appreciated!
No. That commit can never be merged because in case a dev creates a ROM to test and it get stuck at boot, he won't be able to get logcat.

But he can disable it by default, then he commit it for the nightly.
To enable adb by default, it's not good security.
Is always good, to set default settings for installer.
For developing, I can understand it, that's is enabled.

I don't want to get it merged to the base. I want to add it to my own base/fork, because I don't need adb enabled by default. I know that it's good to have it enabled in debug/test builds but it's not being used by 99% of the users.

Also this ^.
Ok, so I guess nobody cares about giving me an answer to such simple question. Right...
Like he says in the post, will work for probably many other vpns but does require root.
performed on rbox's nov21 51.1.4.1_514013920+fixed pre-rooted image.
I found this link all credit goes to him.
https://vpntips.com/fire-tv-vpn-install/
So my vpn provider is purevpn and I decided to try it on it and it worked.
what I did instead was the following,
I selected the dd-wrt router files from here.
http://support.purevpn.com/customer...-files-for-windows-routers-ios-linux-and-mac-
I followed the install settings which required install both open-vpn apk files and running the vpn installer app. instead of copying the other vpn providers files, I extracted the router-file.zip from above from purevpn website on a windows machine and copied all the files in it to "/sdcard/openvpn" of the firetv box. I also placed the files in the tcp and udp folder to the root of "/sdcard/openvpn" this also included the ca.crt and wdc.key. not sure if these were needed but I put them their anyway.
I enabled the vpn as the the first setting then selected the server to connect to and entered the login/password and waited for connection successful and stating what the new ip was.
verified through chrome by going to "tracemyip.org"
these settings did not survive a reboot. you needed to go back into openvpn app and reconnect.
I use droidvpn and it works solid, no complaints.
