[Q] Usb Debugging disabled by default - Omni Q&A

Hey.
Could any experienced developer point me to the right place/commit for disabling usb debugging by default in userdebug builds? Of course I'm talking about sources, not "normal" way of disabling it through settings.
Windows doesn't like USB debugging, especially if we have no adb drivers support. I'd like to disable it in my own build but I can't find the way how to do so .
Any tip greatly appreciated!

No. That commit can never be merged because in case a dev creates a ROM to test and it get stuck at boot, he won't be able to get logcat.

But he can disable it by default, then he commit it for the nightly.
To enable adb by default, it's not good security.
Is always good, to set default settings for installer.
For developing, I can understand it, that's is enabled.

I don't want to get it merged to the base. I want to add it to my own base/fork, because I don't need adb enabled by default. I know that it's good to have it enabled in debug/test builds but it's not being used by 99% of the users.

Ok, so I guess nobody cares about giving me an answer to such simple question. Right...

Calling on nexus devs, themers, please read

As some of you know a friend and team member parabola from acs is a java developer and he wrote an app called the acs updater. Now the app is from acs but the intention is for any dev to showcase their work. If you would like to have your work included in the app please visit here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174964
And choose submit theme, app, rom, kernel etc to make it publicly available.
This app downloads the mod and flashes it for you.

Yes it checks for the build info you shouldn't see my rom but you should see my themes. It should identify you as crespo when you start it

Very similar so far the dev just got started. Its actually building into something that will keep people that use our work in the loop and provide a simple means of flashing. The thing its since we don't store the rom itself there no reason to not let any dev post work.

Nice and good idea but i guess it would be very hard to maintain( no offence intended).
Only checking the build prop is okay for roms but will be problematic concerning kernel and themes.
why is that? I'm not saying you wrong I'm not seeing why not

Interesting idea, does it do a proper flash for things? I heard somewhere that RM doesn't flash properly for certain things (cant remember what exactly).
Was there a reason to develop your own updater? I'm tempted to use it for my stuff though.

So far I've flashed the themes and rom. The original idea was he was building a in house updater to package all of acs's work. A central location to have it all but recently he decided to add in anyone who wanted to be included.

Oh ok. Would you have any idea what the Extended Commands requirement is? Or an example? I always wondered how stuff was sent by RM.

I was actually working on this MOD today but the code from the S3 is still a little buggy. I will get it fixed up and added to the next version of FreeGS4 (more info on that in the android development section) I might write up a TUT for that exact MOD as well once its done so people on stock can enjoy it too stay tuned
Awesome

Were you ever able to get this going?

Looking for that split screen feature that came with phone

I rooted my phone with the shabbypenguin build but don't have the ability to hold the back button to split screens. Is there an APK I can download or zip to install for this?
Thanks!
I'm assuming you're running cyanogen? If so no. It's a touchwiz only feature as the framework is completely different

I don't believe it's cyanogen, basically just rooted with the sprint hotspot hack and custom recovery. I currently use the touchwiz launcher afaik, is the framework different?
If you just Rooted the stock firmware the setting can be found by going to settings -> my device -> display-> check the multi window check box. And you should be able to run split screen

Updated to 4.4.2 on tmobile. How to switch to ART?

I don't see the option anywhere. Not even under the developer options. What are the steps necessary to make the switch on the g2?

We need root...
Then we could probably edit the build.prop and change:
Code:
persist.sys.dalvik.vm.lib=libdvm.so
to
Code:
persist.sys.dalvik.vm.lib=libart.so
Make sure the permissions of build.prop are rw-r--r--, reboot and see what happens

I was under the impression that ART is the default runtime on 4.4.2 and that if you wanted dalvik it had to be tweaked via build.prop

Apparently not ?. Kit Kat in tmobile is missing the only things I was looking forward to: ART and tap to pay on google wallet.

No, ART is still in the developmental phase with Google. Maybe when Android 5.0 comes out than it will be the default, but right now it is not all universal with apps and other stuff so still in the testing phase.

Well then what in the balls has everyone made such a big hooplah about ART in reference to KK for? "Check out this awesomeness that you can't have for another year! - Love, Google."

Locked bootloader with fly-on mod?

Just was curious if others have tried it? I just got it working on mine everything seems to be working. Haven't used it long enough yet to be certain of improvement but my entropy values are definitely looking good

What ROM are you running this on? I ask because if there isn't Init.d support on the ROM, then you need to add it before using Fly-On. I use Fly-on with Slim on all of devices and I love it.
Stock rooted 98.18.94 and I used a different mod I found here on xda to enable init.d support... I forgot what it was called but as all I had to do was run an app
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I probably used that same mod to enable init.d when I was running a stock ROM for a while.
