Aeroplane toggle button? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I go to bed, I switch to Aeroplane mode=On. Stops noises from fb etc. Are there any widgets or buttons which I can put on my desktop so its just a single press to toggle it? Same question for location access come to think of it! I always have it turned off but need it for maps, sat nav and some other apps. Its fiddly to turn it back on again.
Thanks,
Jon

Not what you want exactly, but the power control widget can toggle GPS and data sync ( the two circular arrows), which would achieve what you are wanting and is already on your device.

I use widgetsoid and keep the airplane mode toggle right on my home screen.

Just google and find Aeroplane Toggle Widget, you can put it on your home screen.

A program to toggle backlight to stay on and prevent standby?

Searched till my eyes bled, can't find anything on this.
Say I'm using skyfire to stream video. I'd like the backlight to stay on, and the phone to not enter standby.
I'd like to toggle this by launching a program - and thus allow me to toggle it using a hardbutton with AEbutton etc. So when I'm done, I can return to normal power settings.
I can't seem to find a program that allows this... Any suggestions? Thanks!

you map a button to toggle the backlight then you press the power button to turn the display back on i use it all the time

Turn off phone radio (not airplane mode)

Dont know if this has been asked before.. but is there a way to turn off your phone's signal? Not airplane mode, since airplane mode turns off wifi as well.
You can do this with AnyCut. Choose "Activity" and then add a shortcut to Phone Info. Right near the bottom, there is an option to turn off the radio.

Turn off phone radio, but not the device itself. That way you can still use the other features

LOL! Im sure RueTheDay was excercising a bit of sacasm there... Of course he didnt mean the device all together
Go to the Market and search "APNdroid"
May not turn off the radio completely but it comes in handy if you're annoyed by the random push/pull activity and constant edge/3g network flux (depending on your location) that contributes to a faster battery drain.
Havent figured out yet how u still recieve SMS while its enabled.
I set it at work when i dont use the networks and Ive noticed signifigant difference in battery life. Seems like the next best thing to holding that power button
I actually need to turn off the phone's radio when I go to sleep, but want to keep my device on because I use it as an alarm clock

[Q] Lock screen and "Voice talk"

I'd like to use voice talk when driving by double pressing the "home" key. However this only works if the lock screen is not displayed. I'd like to avoid swiping the lock screen to then double press home to start voice talk? Perhaps there is a way of disabling the lock screen temporarily when driving, or maybe enabling the double home key? I am currently using the lock screen supplied by Executive Assistant but could switch to Widget Locker if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
James
I use extended profiles when driving. It detects there is a charger plugged in and doesn't turn off the screen. You could also use something like Extended Controls which has a toggle for turning off the password/pattern lock.

Hi Rob - That sounds good. Is "extended profiles" an app, I can't seem to find it?
Try "screen on" app, keeps the screen on

Also works well with Setting Profile Lite as well which I find a good profile app.
it works if you use widget locker as your lock screen

Sorry, it is setting profiles not extended profiles. It allows all kinds of criteria to be set and applies profiles based on the rules you create.
I have a rule for "at home" so the phone mutes when I'm at home between 22:00 and 06:30.
When I'm in the car with the charger attached and the 3.5mm jack plugged in it fires up BT, GPS, turns the screen up, looses the screen timeout and fires up Power Amp.
When just a charger is plugged in it fires up BT, GPS, turns the screen up and looses the screen timeout.
It really is a great automation app and you can set it to use rules based on time, calendar, charging and so much more.
If you have the Wake Up command activated you can still use Voice Talk while the phone's locked by screaming "Hi Galaxy" at it. If Motion's enabled you can tap it and Voice Talk will activate (if it's on).

Car Mode prevents Recents key, enlarges other soft keys

All,
Any thoughts on preventing car mode from resizing the screen to accommodate the enlarged soft keys and re-enable the Recents button again? I need car mode to keep the screen on while driving, but not being able to quickly transition from Maps to Google Play Music with a double tap of the Recents button, as well as the reduced screen size, is beyond annoying. Saying "don't use car mode" without a solution to keep the screen on while driving (read: not just "while charging" like the developer option allows) isn't a valid solution.
I've attached a screenshot of the issue. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried Android Auto. Google just updated it so you can run it stand alone on a phone. It would give you a simplified car friendly screen with quick access to music and maps.

I like the concept, I just don't like being limited to only accessing those select apps, I use lots of other things to search for addresses I travel to for work, driving 50K miles per year, so I'm in the car working (yes, stopped when accessing emails) and I hate having to disable car mode every time I need to multitask
Good suggestion, I am interested in the direction of Android Auto, just not for my main device at this time

Now car mode prevents me from seeing that a call is currently active, nothing on the notification bar, nothing on the second screen, can't hang up unless I use the controls on the car steering wheel. Need to find another solution using Tasker or otherwise. Screen on while charging in developer's options dims the screen beyond usefulness.

you're having strange issues, are you connecting to a head unit or using the phone alone? Im not having any problems, but i dont need to switch between apps. Also now that Android Auto works over Bluetooth its i can choose between wired connection(which doesn't let me change apps) or wireless is i want to use an app while stopped. As for the call issue sounds like something is triggering the proximity sensor, i had the same issue when i had a screen protector for a different device on at the beginning?

I just ordered the V20 today and intend on using it in Landscape mode while driving and using Google Maps or Waze. My previous phone Note 4, the screen would always stay on as long as i had Google Maps running. I never used the car mode feature and always had it plugged in while driving. Do you really need to use Car mode? Couldnt you just keep Google Maps active and access other apps as needed?

That would be fine for the times I'm ONLY using Maps, but not Music or anything else that keeps screen on while in foreground. If I switch to anything other than Maps, I have to switch back before the screen times out - and considering the power button is almost impossible to get to when mounted, that isn't a viable solution for me, unfortunately.

Yeah, this was the first thing I noticed\hated with either the V20 or 7.0, I hate that the nav buttons increase in car\dock mode. I use CarHome Ultra as my docking app and the only way I have found around it is to Auto hide the Navbar when I'm running CarHome Ultra and my Navigation GPS app. I auto-hide just those two apps from within the "Home Touch Button" tab in the Display settings. I can add shortcuts within CarHome Ultra to the apps I my use while driving: Etc...Nav, Messenger, phone app.
Hope this helps some.
That actually did help me! Thanks. I also use Car Home Ultra, which I love, but I had switched from 8 buttons to 6 because they were too squashed due to the nav buttons at the bottom.

Bixby routines - turn one off when you turn another on

I have two Bixby routines set up - one for home (wifi on, sound on, bluetooth off) and one for car (wifi off, wifi hotspot on, bluetooth on). I have put two widgets on my home screen and will click one depending on where I am. My question is - is there a way to turn one off when you turn the other on and vice versa ?
The problem I get is that if I am home (and have activated the Home widget), I then get into my car and press the Car widget, then both widgets appear as if they are "On" and I would like Home to go "Off" if I press Car to go "On" and vice versa.
Is this possible ?
Many thanks in advance.
