ok all i've been sitting here for about a week reading about how to convert a i9505 Snapdragon US version to google addition I am on the current up to date version of software i've read to much and want to know what is the easier way to go about rooting first then switching over to the google addition no I am not a newb I owned a Samsung Epic with root and cyangenmod 10 I just like to understand everything before I go about actually doing the process.
First install recovery (like CWM), then install the Google Edition ROM using CWM

Download odin 3.07, run it as administrator, put ROM image (.zip) on phone, download i9505 cwm recovery (.tar), put phone into Odin (download) mode (search how to do it) Flash on the PDA tab, (look for an Odin tut) then reboot to cwm and install Google Edition rom.
Really easy mate! Sounds harder than it is.

Im sure it won't be bad once I do it once just starting out fresh with a new phone feel like a rookie all over I will work it out though ty
As yet there is no way to switch over to the Google Edition on the i9505
The people giving you this bad advice should be a lot more careful.
Yes, there are Google Edition roms available, but these are not the same.. they are roms based on the Google Edition, and nothing more.

Listen mate, why is it bad advice?
I have advised him to install a custom recovery via odin and install the final 4.3 Google Edition ROM by Jamal.
You cannot permanently convert a i9505 to a i9505G as the partition tables are different.
So I ask you again, why is it bad advice? And why aren`t the Google Edition ROMS different? The only difference is that one can have OTA updates and one can`t.
I get a bit sick of people saying that sound advice is rubbish by people who seem to not erm... know.
To the OP. Trust me, this is what you can do to get Google Edition on your phone.
1) Install CWM via ODIN
2) Download Jamal`s Google Edition ROM (4.2.2 or 4.3)
3) Flash via your newly installed CWM
4) Reboot, done.
It's misleading. It is not an official Google Rom.. the ones currently available are just roms based on the Google Edition. As you noted they do not even receive the OTA's correctly. That is not the only difference. The partitions are setup completely differently as well, the kernel is "tweaked".. among other things.. why do you think it took almost a week, and numerous updates before that rom of Jamal's to even become usable.
I don't want to argue.. but just wanted to point out this misleading information. It's bad advice for any newbies who are expecting to be able to flash the Google Edition rom on their i9505 to be told: "yes, you can, just use Jamals [hacked] Google Edition"
[ ] added by me.
PS I also don't think it's right that Jamal's thread title contains the word "official" but that is another story.

Right... I`m going to give up trying to explain now. Just look in the threads of the Google Edition ROMS.
How you can say they are merely "based" on the GE ROMS is beyond me.
Not going to argue. If the OP wants GE on his phone (with a tweaked kernel, prerooted, flashable via CWM) then thats what he needs to download.
Not hard.

You clearly fail to see the point. You can't argue that something is 100% Google Edition when the rom requires a tweaked kernel etc. And if the Google-like Editions are so perfect why are they updated all the time? What is there to update or fix if they are 100% great?
No. Still waiting for a 100% Google Edition without custom hacks (and custom bugs) to make it work. All else is kinda pointless.

OK then. This argument is pointless. And it IS 100% Google ROM (with a few hacks and tweaks). It isn`t Touchwiz or CM is it?
A chicken and mushroom pie is still a chicken and mushroom pie even if you add salt, pepper and sauce is it not? It doesn`t suddenly turn into a steak and onion pie does it??? Cmon.
Anyway, to get a "Google-Edition-type" (being purposefully pedantic) ROM, which is actually from erm... Google originally, the OP can follow the steps in this thread.
This should be closed now as it has been hopefully resolved. And I`m a bit sick of arguing that black is black and not very very very dark grey...
Adios!

also there is a solution to exclamation mark if you flash custom kernels.

No you need root.
Flash CF root, then flash back your stock kernel, you will still have root but without the yellow warning triangle.

how to I backup my stock kernel?
No need to, just make a note of what kernel you're using, then download it from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
1. It is not possible to root without flashing kernal
But you can update firmware to newest one via ODIN
2. You can unlock without rooting... Its called paying for the unlock code
Free is only through rooting
3. And why have you got another one if you already have a SGS2 ??????
Is that you are hooked on to rooting and bricking

Well if you didn't note down your stock kernel and flashed a completely different one into it, then you have a problem. Im still very much new to android systems and XDA. (i registed today, but I lurked and read and researched for several days)
But, I think you can just grab one of the latest ones but I think some more experienced users here can give you a better answer on that matter.

I to believe . well with a bit more details. Trying to say this nicely as humanly possibly.. IF you have read the forum thread in its entirety you might should not Install any rom .Give this a few days for all the fuss to calm down and see how it really runs before you make the leap.
Be patient and it will be all worked out on the safety and someone will put up a NOOOBIE STEP BY STEP INSTALL For this rom. Just as all the others in the past..

Yes you can !
You can install the "original version" of this ROM from your recovery if (and only if) you root your tablet and install Amon-Ra recovery on it.

Wise decision, alexmd
But this Rom is the one that will be sent by OTA, I believe... most probably before April. Some people working for Acer have announced that the OTA must begin in a very short time now.

THIS LEAKED ROM IS FOR DEVELOPMENT
•Give the developers time to take this leaked ROM and make a stable release.
•Currently there is no version that keeps full Root and Recovery. A500 tablets will bootloop flashing the CWM version.
•A501 users can flash the CWM version but there is no 3G.
•A500 users can flash the stock ROM, but there is no Root and no way to install Recovery. Going back to 3.2.1 is not verified.
PATIENCE PLEASE, while this is being worked on.
I am willing to bet within a week or so we will start seeing ICS Roms that can be flashed with either Acer Recovery, CWM or RA.

This is not the same rom that will come thru OTA.. Acer on there website has said the acer a500 WILL Receive the same Added app updates the new Acer lock screen as well as the Acer ring. This leaked rom has none of them. This is the reason people are saying that the leaked rom is a Alpha build. and will Likely have issues and compatibility issues
I don't understand what you mean, Renee
There is a new lock screen ring (a bit modified) on this leak rom.
Anyway, you can be right but, for me, there is no need to change anything on this Rom. .. The only thing to change now to be close to perfection, is these two crappy microphones...

I believe she is talking about the "acer ring", which is some overlay that appears when you put 5 fingers on the screen in a ring shape.
Sent from my tomato filled Evo
There should be a ring lock screen that has the ability to run some apps without unlocking. by draging it to that app.. also a more complex one built into the UI
as well as some new acer apps that nobody has mentioned.. If you go to acer.com and find there latest news it talks about these things..
but i could be wrong. Im still waiting a few more days to see what comes about this boot loader unlock commands now available..
Its all good who knows at this point

i know. but i don't need it. I'm aware some people might, but having no root doesn't mean its not stable. Ive seen a bunch of posts where people keep saying its for developers only and not stable. I'm just trying to say that its super stable. IF you don't need root, just flash the stock one. It far surpasses any custom 3.2 roms out there. even if i never get another update, i'll be happy.

I only have one more question, the camera is working? and I can flash it in Revery mod my stock rom 3.2.1 unroot?
Hello,
tomorrow I will get LG G2 D802 International version 16 GB and have few basic qestion
1. Do I need root to put CyanogenMod 11 ?
2. Which recovery should I use to flash costum rom? I see TWRP, CWM and philz. Can I just download one of these from google play or have to install from .img file?
3. Is bootloader factory unlocked in d802 international version or should I do something to be able to root my phone?
4. Should I do a backup (EFS folder?) my original stock room with all detalis (IMEI etc.) or could i really use LG link update with put original IMEI at the end of this link
HTML:
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b...heck2.jsp?esn=
If need to backup, then how? I mean when i will need to use my warranty
5. What is Xposed for G2?
6. Which gapps should I install for cm-11-20140405-SNAPSHOT-M5-d802 it's 4.4.2 or 4.4?
7. What is diffrence between TWRP image version install and version from google play?
8. it would be beneficial to install a different kernel in cyanogenmod than original one?
9. Im looking for fastest camera app (I used iPhone 4 before and camera was pretty fast, about 3 pics per second and i really love it) speed is more important than quality. [speed > quality]
10. How could I root and install recovery to put costum rom when I get my G2 and android 4.4.2 KK will be installed? should i downgrade to 4.2.2 ore something else?
11. I heard that camera lens is susceptible to scratches, how can I protect it (I dont like any cases, I ve never used any) Maybe foil or something? I'm looking for something that does not affect the optimal image quality
sorry for english btw.
THANKS FOR HELP
feeling
1. Yes.
2. Your choice.
3. No, it is locked.
4. I didn't but it is advised.
5. It is an app full of Xposed framework tweaks to go along with the Xposed framework.
6. 4.4.2.
7. No difference in terms of the recovery, just a different install method.
8. it depends on what you want a custom kernel for, overclocking etc. The CM11 kernel is stable.
9. The stock LG camera app is pretty speedy imo, but so is the stock CM11 camera app.
10. If it comes pre installed with 4.4.2 (which it shouldn't at this time) you can either downgrade to 4.2.2 or wait for a root and recovery install for 4.4.2.
11. I've had mine months without a case and i don't nave any scratches.
You are supposed to read the forum. Your thread is about you being too lazy to do some work for yourself.
Thanks for all your help, I have already got my LG G2 and with CyanogenMod it works great and smooth! Didnt like this ugly LG stock ROM.
But now I can report few issues with CyanogenMod 11 M5 version for my D802

Second issue is that in quick settings is not in the middle and i have space from the right which looks not good ( I know this is a small detail but in CM 10 worked good).
Third issue is probems with bluetooth, when i turned it on and off and again on, bluetooth was not able to start and resulting suspended.
Also had some problems with transfer files from my laptop to G2 by MTP USB cable [Windows 7 x64] Many many times transfer just stopped at copying]

That's kind of mean. It looks like he already did a lot of research as he's asking the right questions, it looks like he just needs some reassurance/confirmation as to what his idea of the process is correct. He asked in the right section too, so not too bad.
As for OP, I can't comment on your CM11 questions as I use SlimKat personally, but I have the same issue with transferring files where it looks like it just stops and hangs. Weird thing is, it actually still transfers the file correctly even though it hangs and you have to close it. Just leave it be and wait for it to close.
I was trying to transfer a new ROM and it hanged, but upon checking the MD5 it looks like it fully transferred. Enjoy your new G2!

Cybertronic Kernel v5 - 4/23/2014
Sync-up Kernel to 3.4.82 (from 3.4.39)
Samsung clean-up and debug removal (They leave tons of factory-only, test-only debug code on)
Config optimization
Cache read-ahead optimized
More free RAM (1760MB Stock, now 1830MB)
Compiled with latest 4.8 Android toolchain (better ARM optimizations for Cortex-A15)
Caveats:
Secure storage is disabled
Only signed Samsung kernels can have this enabled. Keys/Wifi passwords, etc. Are still stored in the secure Android key-chain,
they are just not stored in TrustZone hardware. If this is critical for you, stick with the stock Samsung kernels.
In Progress...:
- ARM HMP (This will allow all 8 cores to be online at once) Porting it in will be a challenge, since it was introduced in the
3.11 kernel branch. I'm hoping the next release from Samsung bumps up the version, so it will be easier. I'll work on it in
in the meantime though.
- Merge-in ADF from Android mainline.
- Merge in anything neat from S5
Install TWRP Recovery first:
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/picassowifi
Download and install in TWRP Recovery, or use Flashify:
MOD EDIT: Link Removed as per no kernel source as per XDA Rules, and no reply from Author of said kernel.
[RESERVED]
Works well so far. Features list will be nice
Dont want to look at purely benchmarks but seems fluid.

You'll never brick your device from a kernel. It doesn't overwrite the bootloader or recovery. So you can always go back to stock, even if the kernel doesn't boot.
Anyhow.... I'm only looking for testers, who have experience. This isn't a public kernel yet, which is why the limited info. So please, calm down.
People have had good results testing so far, so I'll be releasing full details and the public file soon.

i must say i have had quite the share of flashing, reflashing, and modifyting my however limited selection of android devices. Never bricked and item yet. I would love to test your kernel and give it my honest opinion.
Since its a testing thing, feel free to PM me deetails
Would love to try this, but how to get TWRP on SM-T520?
Found these recovery images for (I guess) our device, how to install these? Odin? http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/picassowifi
Edit: I can confirm that flashing TWRP from rooted SM-T520 works with Flashify. Flashify finds and downloads correct TWRP2.7.0.1.

Thanks for that, I'll add a note in the OP about where to grab TWRP.
This should be moved to the development section. May get lost here.

Really considering flashing this, just a question though, where can I find the stock kernel to be able to go back if I wanted to?

Better mention Flashify, just the img doesn't show how to flash.

You need TWRP first, with which you can make a backup of System to preserve the current kernel.
Running with the kernel now. Seems to be in order, but cannot tell of any advantages that are noticable.
Just flashed it, can't really notice much difference, but will give it some time and report back

Since I've flashed the kernel (and then flashed stock again) and no thumbnails or pics are loading in most apps (namely Twitter, RedditSync) anyone faced that befot

I've flashed the kernel. Now getting crash on launch camera (T520XXUAND1).
hello
First off, I have modded with cyanogenmod quite some time ago.
I have kept that up date (cause of their nice update program), but I have never updated the carrier roaming lists (PRL?). My coverage seems to be crappy and I think it just may have to do with my newbishness.
I am running Cyanogenmod 11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-jflte
Sprint PRL = 55018
is there a retard guide for me to easily update.... any suggestions or links would be great. I have spent over an hour searching google, but I am obviously using the wrong keywords and I am getting frustrated. I keep stumbling across other models / mods and I am fearful of breaking something....
Thanks for your time

You'll need to flash a touchwiz based ROM to do a PRL update.

thanks for the detail.
I dont mean to be a turd, but there seems to be a whole lot of TouchWiz variants. Is there a specific one to use?
thanks, and best regards

Any TouchWiz should be fine, but go with stock if you want to make sure

Yes, unless you use stock rooted. But that doesn't matter since all you are doing is flashing stock ROM, updating PRL and then restoring cyanogenmod

sorry for being a pain, but as I dont do this often...
if I flash the zip here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257503
this will put me back to TouchWIz original (plus root)
then I will follow the rest of the steps
(sorry for being dense, I was incorrectly thinking that I would loose the ability to use clockworkmod recovery / restore functions once I flashed the touchwiz rom and I would have to root before I could restore cyanogen, but that is firmware not ROM..... )
Its late and I have been up forever...
Thanks
I need some help.
Using Clockworkmod recovery V 6.0.4.7.
Tried using http://galaxys4root.com/galaxy-s4-rooted-stock-roms/ >>>> "Download Galaxy S4 rooted Stock ROM Sprint SPH-L720 Latest MF9 "
checked the filesize and the md5 sum, all good.
WHen I tried to use CWM to install zip from SDcard1 it gave me an error (missing 4 of 5) and aborted the installation.
I tried to search somewhere else to find a .zip that would bring the Sprint SPH-L720 back to stock, however they all seem to not have .zip for CWM recovery however make use of ODIN (which i cannot use as I dont have a windows computer, I use linux)
I want to go back to stock to update the prl before going to cyanogenmod 12.1
any suggestions ?
thanks

Rough night here.
somehow I lost clockworkmod recovery and ended up being still rooted with stock mf9 recovery, but I still had cyanogenmod 11 working; I recovered by installing clockworkmod application; > model > flash clockworkmod recovery > shutdown.
In the midst of that fiasco I say this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296167
which implies that keeping the PRL as up to date is not so required.....
so I bailed after several different attempts to install a ROM that would allow me to do a prl update.
I flashed the latest cyanogenmod nightly 12.1 and I am off and running.
